hello. this is sport today, live from the bbc sport centre. coming up on this programme: world number seven, yohanna konta, out in the first round of the us open losing to serbia's aleksandra krunic. in the men's draw, jo wilfried tsonga produces 38 winners as he sees off romania's marius copil. and barcelona show off their new signing, ousmane demebele, who becomes the second—most expensive footballer in history. hello, and welcome to the programme. we start with the news that world number seven, yohanna konta, has been knocked out of the us open in the first round. the briton who was also seeded seventh had high hopes in the year's final grand slam in new york, having made the semi—finals at wimbledon just last month but 24—year—old serbian, aleksandra krunic, had other ideas. konta took the opening set but struggled in the next two as krunic, ranked 78th in the world, made itjust a second ever win against a player ranked inside the top ten.

murky conditions. for tuesday night and the early part of wednesday, warm, but by the end of the night, two different weather systems swarming and gathering down to the south. these bring a pretty wet day for parts of southern england, the midlands and wales as we go through wednesday. one weather system towards the south—west, one to the south—east. the two are likely to merge to bring a lot of cloud, outbreaks of rain, increasingly blustery winds and a cool, fresh feel to the weather. temperatures well down across parts of the south—east. maybejust 17 degrees in london. through northern england, northern ireland and scotland, afairamount of sunshine, some showers and temperatures similar, 16 or 17 degrees. we stick with the cooler, fresher feel for the end of the week with some spells of sunshine and just a few showers. good evening. some places got up to 28 degrees today. not too bad for a bank holiday, which it was in much of the uk. tomorrow probably won't be quite as warm as that for most because of this band of cloud and some outbreaks of rain sinking southward and eastwards. during tomorrow, this band of cloud will be slow—moving. welcome to bbc news, broadcasting to viewers in north america and around the globe.
