hello, i'm sarah mulkerrins and this is sport today, live from the bbc sport centre. coming up: after 37 fights, in 22 different cities, will the undefeated gennady golovkin topple canelo alvarez in his first las vegas fight? chaotic scenes in london as fan disorder delay‘s —— delays arsenal's europa league match with cologne. and it's a washout — play was called off for the day at the final women's golf major of the year. on saturday, the three—belt champion gennady golovkin puts his titles and his undefeated record on the line when he takes on saul canelo alvarez in a hugely anticipated bout in las vegas. and, well, if mayweather mcgregor wasn't one for the boxing purists, this one certainly is.

two of the best current pound for pound boxers around. ade adedoyin is in las vegas. you have had quite a roll of honour of gu ests you have had quite a roll of honour of guests for us this week so far. yes. welcome to the media centre. it has been a hugely anticipated bout that has attracted boxing dignitaries past and present. now, these two are fighting for your old veldt, kelly. these last few days before a fight, what is that like mentally? it is stressful. there unnerves. for me, towards the end of my middleweight career it was a problem. we had to watch our skill set. the press, interviews, everything else. that gives you a burden. you are hungry, tired,
1:47 am
working out while drying out. it is a pain sometimes and sometimes you like that. the leader is demanding on the person and it is tiring but thatis on the person and it is tiring but that is part of the sport. the next time they meet each other will be on friday at the way in. what is it like in there? do you try and score a psychological advantage over your opponent? i did not. my thing was to get up there, do what i do and, like isaid get up there, do what i do and, like i said earlier, when i was in the ring, you had no choice, and that is where everything matters. and many people like to see how tired or starve somebody years. they look to see if there is any ash units. there isa see if there is any ash units. there is a lot of strategy. many like to pretend they are sick. some cams

have strategies on that and they do try to use that to get on to the head of the fighter and give him confidence. mine was always to go to the way in, do what i had to do, make the weight and get it done is. and then go fight. so the fight itself. golovkin has knocked out 33 opponents from 37 wins. if you are canelo, he exudes confidence but does that power worry you? how do you deal with that? it can make a big difference in a split second. i think is canelo finds a perfect size, not only a perfect fight... it is hard to answer because i also think if canelo gets past the fourth oi’ think if canelo gets past the fourth or fifth round he think if canelo gets past the fourth orfifth round he stands think if canelo gets past the fourth or fifth round he stands a think if canelo gets past the fourth orfifth round he stands a good chance of winning because golovkin

fades. if you can use inches and angles and make golovkin pay. by the end of the fight i think he could build an even more rounds and win convincingly. on the flip side, golovkin is a tactical fighter and he has the power to change an entire gameplan ina he has the power to change an entire gameplan in a split second. how about canelo himself? it happens on mexico independence weekend. how will he deal with that pressure and expectation? there will be pressure. fans can help and sometimes they can bea fans can help and sometimes they can be a distraction. they give you a false sense of hope... what is the word i'm looking for? motivation. a

false sense of motivation. for him to go in there and keep fighting hard. you worry about impressing the fans. i think that canelo has dealt with plenty of times and he has been ona with plenty of times and he has been on a big stage where he is used to it. that should not be an excuse or problem. as you heard there, it is a difficult fight to call and that adds to the anticipation. football and everton‘s woes continued on thursday as ronald koeman‘s side suffered a dismal defeat in the europa league losing 3—0 away at atalanta. koeman had made six changes following their 3—0 loss at home to tottenham in the premier league on saturday. it didn't work — atalanta scoring all three goals in the first half. elsewhere the swedish minnows ostersunds had a great win over ukraine's zorya. 2—0 there. a shock 2—1 loss for hoffehim at home and a big win for milan — andre silva with a hat—trick

in their 5—1 win away at austria vienna. a reminder you can see all of thursday's europa league results on the bbc sport website. overcrowding around the emirates stadium led to a 60—minute delay to the start of arsenal's match against cologne, which they won 3—1. thousands of ticketless away fans turned up outside the ground and there were some scuffles between supporters and stewards inside after the gates opened. cologne brought 20,000 fans but only 3,000 of them had tickets to the match. our reporter danjohnson was outside the stadium before kick—off. this game between arsenal and cologne was due to kick off at five minutes past eight but it has been delayed by the police, they say,
1:52 am
because of safety concerns. we have had a statement from the police saying they have offices here dealing with disorder at the stadium. we have not seen anyone causing problem but there are thousands of fans outside the ground. it looks like the numbers of people have been too much and that is why kick—off has been delayed for one hour. there are lines of police here who have been holding people back and now these fans are waiting to get into the stadium. you can see police officers in riot gear on horses and this has been a large operation for the police. we have seen groups of cologne fans through the streets around the stadium being noisy and boisterous. they made their way up oxford street causing traffic problems. a stand—off at the moment while everyone tries to work out exactly what is happening. we've not even had first practice but singapore grand prix week has already produced plenty of intrigue. even though lewis hamilton hasjust a three point lead over sebastian vettel in the drivers championship, all the talk has
1:53 am
about about next season, with both engine and driver changes expected to be announced over the coming days. our reporter tom clarkson is there. come sunday, the focus here in singapore will be on whether lewis hamilton can increase his lead in the world championship over sebastien vettel. until then, the talk is largely off—track. we expect a series of announcements over the course of this weekend. here is what you need to know. first, mclaren are expected to officially announce their divorce from honda, a partnership that began in 2015 and has been woefully unsuccessful. they will switch to renault engines in 2018 and they are expected to re—sign fernando alonso as a result. i want to give time to my team. after the last three years after the

sun struggles that we went through together, to have time for them to make decisions and to see the future for next year's car and after they make their decisions i will make my. i want to stay loyal to that. do not make any decisions without them making their decisions. so relaxed, happy and we will see what happens in the next few weeks. the honda engine supply will swap in 2018 and then to red bull racing in 2019 who are expected to sever links with renault. it is all happening here in singapore. play was called off for the day at the fifth and final women's golf major of the year — the evian championship in france. constant rain meant that the french ducks were the only winners, at least providing a few birdies. the first group had completed eight holes when play was called off meaning that the event is now a sit—hole tournament starting on friday.

you can get all the latest sports news at our website. but from me and the rest of the sport today team, goodbye. hello there. our weather has taken on a decidedly cool and, dare i say it, quite autumnal feel. as we head on through friday, it will remain cool, after quite a chilly start, and we will see a mixture of sunshine and showers. showers from the word go across northern england, into wales and the south—west. these gradually drifting further south and east, and as the showers arrive in east anglia and south—east england, they will turn very heavy indeed, with some hail and some thunder. all the while, showers keep going across northern ireland and a good part of scotland. so let's take a closer look, then, at a:00pm in the afternoon. a mixture of sunny spells and hefty

showers to the south—west of england. 15 degrees there in plymouth. could get to 16 in southampton, in the dry spells. but bear in mind, as the showers drift through, the temperatures will drop away by a good few degrees. maybe just 12 or 13 degrees in some of the showers across the south—east and east anglia — very heavy, with hail and thunder. a mixture of sunshine and showers for northern england. quite a few showers across north—east scotland, a fair old breeze blowing here, as well. but south—west scotland a better chance of seeing more in the way of dry weather, and some spells of sunshine. sunny spells and hefty downpours for northern ireland, and a similar story for wales, and particularly close to the west coast it will be fairly windy. now, as we go on through friday night, many of the showers will fade away. but some will continue, most likely across north—east england, into wales, the south—west, some showers continue across north—east scotland, as well. many other places will turn dry, with some clear spells. maybe the odd mist patch, and temperatures easily down to eight, nine, or 10 degrees, but some spots in the countryside cold enough for a touch

of grass frost. so we begin the weekend between this area of low pressure to the east and this area of high pressure trying to push in from the west. it leaves us with a northerly wind — never a warm wind direction. yes, there will be some spells of sunshine, but again, some showers, some of them heavy, and those temperatures around 13 degrees for aberdeen and glasgow. 12 in belfast, maybe 15 for cardiff, and 16 for london. but as we go through saturday night, as the showers fade, we see clear skies and light winds, it is going to turn very chilly indeed. our towns and cities perhaps down into single digits. but, out in the countryside, particularly out west, we're looking at lows of one, two, three degrees. there could well be a touch of grass frost to start sunday morning, but sunday should see some improvements, certainly in terms of the showers. fewer showers, more dry weather, more sunshine. 15 to 18 degrees. and that is the story for the weekend. the showers, slowly but surely, will ease. there will be some sunny spells, but the nights will be decidedly chilly.
