that at least 15 times. this is a real situation. people staying in nearby hotels were told to take shelter. we were down in the gym basement. this group had been at a party, having to hide in the basement gym. the attack took place just after ten o'clock last night. it was right in the heart of las vegas, in the famous strip of hotels, casinos and concert venues. the gunman was in the mandalay bay hotel on the 32nd floor, firing down onto the music festival across the road below. hundreds of ambulances and police vehicles soon swamped the area. before they arrived, local people, including hotel workers, had been helping the injured. me and my co—workers started to see lots of people jumping the fences, who were shot in the chest, arms. some were shot in the thighs.

a lot of people were shot coming onto our property. people were hysterical. specialist firearms officers moved in once they knew where the gunman was firing from. they broke into his hotel room but say he had already killed himself. the man, who lived in nevada, and has been named as 64—year—old stephen paddock, was killed. he had on board record. his motive remains unclear. —— he had ten guns with him and no police record. we are comfortable that the primary aggressor in this event has expired, or passed away, and is no longer a threat. there have been multiple phone calls and accusations, or conjecture, coming through social media that there are multiple shooters at other resorts. that has proven to be false. additionally, there have been accusations or beliefs there are explosives going off.

and they directed you into the mandalay bay hotel? fences were getting kicked down because we were trapped. people were kicking on the fences, climbing over the top of them. we made it. we were directed into the mandalay bay. as we were coming through the mandalay bay we didn't know that but apparently at the time he was shooting in the rooms. we made it out of mandalay bay. we walked away here. you came a long way down the strip from this. oh, yeah. you said it seemed like 15 times he reloaded with multiple... easily, with at least 30 rounds he was firing. it was about four, five minutes of gunshots. my sister also has video. there are five minutes of us running and hearing gunshots, crouching, hiding behind cars, trying to get as far away as possible. when the shooting would stop you would run, and as soon as you heard bullets again you would hit the dirt? we weren't really running,

we were all calm, but some people people were trying to run and we stopped them. because things were bottling up. we calmly kept going. then we were out. once we got onto the streets we started to run. you are saying as people were exiting with all of these bullets going people were calm? yes. it was remarkable. click everyone was getting out as fast as they could. but they were saying, stay calm, don't push, don't panic, don't trample, it was strange to see that, that everybody was still looking out for everyone at the same time as trying to escape. more people could have got hurtjust getting out of there.

with the suspect and we are in the recovery phase of that. the mandalay bay itself has gone back to service, minus the 32nd floor and they would like everybody advice problem with sound to return to the hotel. now, the location in question, the concert hall, we will be in a long process of body recovery out there and evidence recovery. and evidence documentation. so, you're going to have to ask the public‘s patience as we bring information forward. it's a long, laborious process to identify the victims and reunite them with the victims and reunite them with the family members to advice them of their situation. so, we still have their situation. so, we still have the families responding to the las vegas metropolitan police headquarters in order to conduct a

reunification of their family or friends. eventually, in the next few hours, actually, i don't want to give you a skewed timeline, but approximately ipm, we will request the family members to attend the convention centre to utilise a larger space and we will bring in victim advocates to assist with the family members in the long—term. right now, it isjust family members in the long—term. right now, it is just a temporary phase associated with the reunification. additionally, we're asking to solely utilise the united blood service for blood donation and umc as the only places to donate blood. we had some resource issues associated with the medical clinic. i applaud their effort to help us, but we have resource issues associated with that. so better utilise it to ensure that you know

we're going to get through this and our city will be strongerment thank you so much. —— stronger. thank you so you so much. —— stronger. thank you so much. i'm the district attorney anden behalf of the da's office, our thoughts and prayers go out to everybody associated with this event. but two my of prosecutors, young female prosecutors were actually at this concert, close to the stage, and i have spoken to both of them this morning and they're pretty rattled. they are pretty shaken up. this was a horrific vent to say the least. this is a classic wmd, this is a weapon and a man of mass destruction. what i'm pleased so much about is how this doesn't involve politics in the sense of republican or democrat, we are here, all of us are nevadans and i'm proud

to be present with the other leaders because we are working together to get through this. i want to thank the sheriff for your leadership in leading us through this terrible, terrible day. thank you. thank you, sheriff. i want to begin by thanking the sheriff. i got down here eight or nine hours ago. it was after this incident, but i can tell that our first responders, the firemen and women and metro were on their way in when this all happened. we have got first responders that are covered in blood as a result of this. there is a lot of victims have not been identified, but they have stepped up. it was a sole shooter. there is no further threat that we are aware of. i want to assure everyone that's listening is our words that las vegas is safe. the men and women of mandalay bay and mgm resorts have been incredible in terms of

communicating and working with the sheriff's office so that everybody can get into their rooms and they are safe and we are doing everything possible to protect our tourists and citizens. the sheriff and i have set up citizens. the sheriff and i have set upago citizens. the sheriff and i have set up a go fund me account, we have been inundated with people asking what they can do. there will be a lot of family members that are going through an awful lot at this particular time. we have over 500 in our hospitals being treated and we need to provide them with some sort of support. so we have done that and ijust can't of support. so we have done that and i just can't say of support. so we have done that and ijust can't say enough about the fine men and women that are our first responders and all of the cities and jurisdictions that have pulled together. we have pledged a full resources to assist the sheriff and the fbi in anyway way possible, we ask for dwrur prayers. —— your players.

children, parents, who have lost loved ones and so many still suffering in the hospitals, going through major surgery. we have some that were hit quite lightly with shral nel as they were nearer the exits, it has been a hugely traumatic time for all of us and for our visitors, who love country music, many of whom have come from the northern part of our states here, and just really came here for a wonderful safe time. we pride ourselves in our law enforcement. they are unequal. they are so rapid to respond and so thorough in what they do and our first responders have been simply phenomenal. it is a city and a community that has pulled together. everybody is working so ha rd to together. everybody is working so hard to make sure that we are taking ca re of hard to make sure that we are taking care of the needs of the families and those who have lost loved ones and those who have lost loved ones and it's just been a very, very traumatic time for everybody. the

president gave a beautiful message and he will be visiting us either sometime later today, tomorrow, or wednesday. great concern and we just know that the entire community, i have so many mayor that is have called, governors who have called me personally, to express their support, help and what we ask for is blood. that's the main thing right now is that if our people want to do something and they are healthy then please donate blood. we will have plenty of banks available, call a hospital if you are unsure where to go. so thank you very much. and madam congresswoman, i'm sorry, i didn't mean to stand in front of you. well, thank you very much. i represent nevada district one. it includes the fabulous las vegas strip and the mandalay bay where this horrendous act took place. so many times i welcome people to las vegas and all the excitement and

entertainment and fun it has to offer and i never thought i would be standing here trying to offer solace and my office assistance to victims of something like this that would happen. all through the night we we re happen. all through the night we were briefed about law enforcement. i thank you, sheriff for all you did and the first responders, mainly we we re and the first responders, mainly we were trying to stay out of the way because you don't want to turn a personal tragedy into a political event. today my office will be giving blood as the mayor stayed. they appreciate your thoughts and prayers, but what they need is blood. it will be open to do anything we can to assist, but you know, i have just been hearing all the stories of heroism that occurred in the midst of this tragedy. you had off duty police officers who we re had off duty police officers who were there just for the concert, for an evening of fun who were able to help people get shelter and who were able to identify the location of the

shooter and just random strangers, a friend of some of my staff members who lives in the district, said they we re who lives in the district, said they were running, being trampled, somebodyjust were running, being trampled, somebody just opened a were running, being trampled, somebodyjust opened a van door and pulled them inside for shelter and safety. that's the kind of people we have here in las vegas who are willing to reach out and help one another. and so, i thank all of our law enforcement. i thank the first responders, those in the hospitals where people are in the halls and the parking lot trying to take care of so many and please call on our offices if there is any way we can be of assistance. i'm nevada's attorney—general. i want to echo. a lot of people said today, i have been here since 2am and the job that metro and our law enforcement and first responders have done is remarkable. we have never been hit with such a tough situation in this

city and to see the poise and the pressure that they are able to perform under was truly astoweding. i believe that they are always going to be able to get us out of these situations, our law enforcement will be able to step up to the plate when they need them most and of course, they need them most and of course, the city and our state will bounce back. thank you very much. ijust want back. thank you very much. i just want to add one back. thank you very much. ijust want to add one more thing before the governor comes up. i got to ask you to do something else. when you see one of these men and women wearing a badge, or members of our fire department, tell them thank you. they're selfless actions saved the lives of hundreds of people. not a dozen people. hundreds of people. this death count would have been many hundred more where it not for the brave work of every single one of these men and women, our first responders, our police department, i encourage all of you watching, the

next time you see one, say thank you, i appreciate that. good morning, ladies and gentlemen. i'm governor. i don't know if i have words to describe what we're going through and what these poor unfortunate victims are going through. we're angry. we're grieving. confused. people are hurting. iwant grieving. confused. people are hurting. i want to thank the sheriff and all the first responders. ijust had an opportunity to visit some of the patients in the hospital and it's unimaginable what people are going through right now. you have got family members who are here and don't have anyone to reach out to. but the first responders and what they've done, it is our finest hour. 0ur finest hour. and the way that the sheriff and the metropolitan police department handled this event

is unprecedented. the paramedics, who came on the scene, and basically what was a war zone. and treated all those men, women and kids. the health care professionals at the hospitals, the doctors who came from all over the valley to do whatever they could. and now, you know, we don't understand what's happened and i'm sure we'll find out a little more from when metro continues to do its investigation. i do know for everybody watching and you know i wa nt everybody watching and you know i want to thank the president of the united states, the governors that have reached out to me, to offer their help and assistance. we need blood. so if anybody can contribute blood. so if anybody can contribute blood and anybody in las vegas area. problem with sound we're going to need... problem with sound

it is obviously... problem with sound and pray for the families and for the victims. we have to rely on our faith ina the victims. we have to rely on our faith in a time like this goat us through all of it. i'm, i couldn't be prouder of the way that nevadans responded to this and what they have done. doctors and nurses and everyone else who has worked through the night to save lives and they've told me they've saved lives that if not for their organisation and their professionalism and their training. so again, sheriff, thank you. for the courage that you've shown, to the courage that you've shown, to the people that were at the concert. you see courage and compassion there. people helping total strangers. risking their own lives to help people. that really speaks highly to the character of america.

so again, there is a lot to learn from all of this. it was a cowardly despicable act. i'm very angry about. there is not much we can do, but we can learn. so ladies and gentlemen, thank you for everybody's ca re gentlemen, thank you for everybody's care and concern. studio: we're going to leave the state governor there, echoing the plea from the mayor for blood supplies. they say they are in need of blood, both having spent part of the night in various hospital trauma units and clearly, many of them still in shock as a result of that. the death toll updated and increased to 58. with 515 injured and being treated in hospital. and also hearing there that had it not been for the quick response of the

sheriff and fire departments, hundreds more, they said, could have been killed in that attack. plenty more to come from las vegas, huw edwards will bring you that in the 5pm, also we will have more on other events including the closure of monarch airlines. that's it from me. it is time for the weather. thank you, simon. good afternoon, everybody. well, it was a windy start to our monday monday, but ed winds have started to ease as the low pressure moves off into scotland navia. this fella will bring a spell of wet weather over the next few hours. we have seen some sharp showers as well through the day, but you can see the cloud increasing in cornwall, the seas getting rougher and the rain has arrived. now, sharper showers to the north—west, but this area of rain that's the issue over the next few hours. nothing particularly significant and it is likely to stay to the south of

the m4 corridor. easing away probably by around 9pm or 10pm. 0nce it does clear off into the channel, we will continue to see the winds falling light and the skies clear and actually temperatures will fall away. still a scattering of showers up away. still a scattering of showers up into the north—westjust like we have seen today, through the night the temperatures falling away, nine to 11 celsius in towns and city centres, but lower than in rural spots. it could be a chillier start to our tuesday morning. but it should be a dry one and we should see decent sunshine. a scattering of showers up into the north—west, but it will be a quieter day for all of us. by the middle of the afternoon, this is a snapshot at 4pm, temperatures not as warm as they have been, ten to 12 celsius, maybe 13 celsius into northern ireland, but for northern ireland, you have got fewer showers. not too bad a day across england and wales. yes, not

as warm as it has been in recent days, but hopefully the sunshine will compensate for that. we could see highs up to 17 celsius. that's 64 fahrenheit. as we go through tuesday night and into wednesday, we have got the high pressure across england and wales, but it slips further south and allows the fronts to come across the top of the high. winds squeezing together so the winds picking up and there will be a speu winds picking up and there will be a spell of prolonged showers or longer spells of rain and strengthening winds. by the end of wednesday we could see more significant rain arriving. it could be vigorous area of low pressure. there is a great deal of uncertainty where that's going to be sitting and how heavy the rain is likely to be, but certainly if you're going out to be out on the roads keep watching the weather forecast. thursday will be a brief lull in proceedings, quieter and drier before clouding over on friday. we see more wet and windy weather threatening as we move into the weekend. at least 58 people have been killed

in the worst mass shooting in modern us history. the gunman opened fire on a crowd attending a music festival in las vegas. more than 500 were injured in the attack. all of a sudden, we heard, pop, pop, p0p: p0p: all of a sudden, we heard, pop, pop, pop, pop, and we all thought it was firecrackers, and then it kept on going. then he fired for a bit, then he fired another 15 or 20 rounds. that's when we realised it was a fully automatic. panic gripped the crowd as people tried to flee while the gunman fired from his room on the 32nd floor of a nearby hotel. the gunman has named as 64—year—old stephen paddock,

who lived in the state. he shot himself before police could reach him.
