rose in the ceremony. golferjustin rose received an mbe for services to his sport. his professional career stretched back almost 20 years but he said this was better than any tournament he had one. it is gold. there was much criticism of his inclusion in the olympic games for golf but he showed that he could find something special in an olympic gold and now an mbe. this is something that other people have recommended you poor and decided you are fit and ready for. so you appreciate it, it is much more humbling than some other victories. the ceremony today recognised a gentleman of golf in our belief is at the top of his game. alongside the fastest swimmer in history. full of ambition, with so much more to come. time for a look at the weather — here's phil avery. no awards for the weather! the environment agency has been gauging

the rain since it began, 175 millimetres at the moment and still very wet towards the north of wales. you get a sense of the misery of it all from these pictures sent in by oui’ all from these pictures sent in by our weather watchers. the sun not shining in keswick, yet anyway. underneath that cloud that is the sort of thing you would run into. but behind that weather front no complaints i suspect from the far north of scotland. there will be some showers around through the afternoon and into the evening. a similar prospect in northern ireland. brighter skies eventually getting in towards the cumbria area as this weather front begins to ease further south and east. but the wind becoming more extensive. and noticeable breeze as well and you

may have had some rain in the south—east and east anglia but i suspect the rain will come after dark from this weather front. and as that moves away and the sky is clear, we still keep some trees. quite a cool night to come especially in the countryside. at least that means it is going to be a brighter, fine start to the date and it stays that way for many parts of the british isles. save perhaps for the british isles. save perhaps for the northern part of scotland with quite a bit of shower activity and a noticeable breeze. feeling fresher but fresher than we have had of late. then on friday and other weather front, wet again across northern ireland and parts of scotland. further south and east, the first signs of warmth as withdrawal in this warm air from the

near continent. but not for everyone, it rather depends where you are in relation to the front. the warmer air certainly to the south of the weather feature but anywhere near a door to the north, forget all about 22, 20 three degrees because you have more cloud and rain in those areas. something very similar again for sunday. that's all from the bbc news at one — so it's goodbye from me — and on bbc one we nowjoin the bbc‘s news teams where you are. good afternoon. lionel messi said argentina deserved their place at next summer's world cup, after they clinched it with victory in their last qualifying match. they were in real danger of missing out for the first time since 1970 but messi scored a hat—trick to give them a 3—1win over ecuador in quito, and put them through.
1:34 pm
messi said it wasn't easy to play in the high altitude and it would've been "crazy" if they hadn't made it to russia. it's been described as the most "embarrasssing night in us soccer history" and "simply devastating" by american journalists, the usa failing to reach the world cup for the first time since 1986. a draw against trinidad and tobago would've been enough but they lost 2—1, including an own goal by 0mar gonzalez, who was inconsolable after the game. as it hit of motion and it happened to go right over tim howard. 0ne as it hit of motion and it happened to go right over tim howard. one of the most unlucky gauls ever. i think for myself and... it's one that will haunt me forever. the football association of wales want chris coleman to stay on as manager of the national team, despite their failure to reach

the world cup finals. his contract expires next summer and after their defeat to the republic of ireland on monday, coleman said he would let the dust settle before thinking about his future. the association is aware that most players and fans are keen for him to stay in the job and they're due to begin talks with him in the next couple of weeks. controversial australian tennis player nick kyrgios is in trouble again. he's been stripped of his first—round prize money and fined an extra £7,500 after he retired from his match at the shanghai 0pen. he claimed he was suffering with stomach problems but he'd been heard threatening to walk out if he lost the first set against stevejohnson, which he did. olympic gold medalists adam peaty and justin rose have been awarded mbes as recognition of their services to sport. they were both named in the new year's honours list and received their awards today at buckingham palace. 0ur royal correspondent daniella relph is there. this is just
1:36 pm
this isjust a huge honourfor these men, to receive this type of recognition. that's right. as you say, a sort of sporting themed honours ceremony here at buckingham palace today presided over by the duke of cambridge and a big honour for both of these men who were awarded today. first up was adam peaty, obviously being given his mbe in recognition of his achievements and his work in learning over the past few years. most recently, looking back at the world championships in budapest in hungary injuly, it was obvious the sheer dominant force he is in that particular sport. a gold medallist, breaking his own world record twice, he is now the olympic, commonwealth, european, world champion and now an mbe is now the olympic, commonwealth, european, world champion and ellen mbes and today was very much about recognising his achievement at the young age of 22. although he looks like he was taking it in his stride, i think there was something quite special for him about being here at buckingham palace. amazing. i was seeing
1:37 pm
earlier to everyone that you can win the gold and do all that and get the wild records but you have to actually beat people to it. trying to get the recognition from the royal family and the people of britain is amazing. an amazing honour. ever since i was a kid, i'd be very patriotically sues bigger today and get it is amazing. different mood from justin rose today. he is the old pro here. he knows what he is doing and he wasn't at all intimidated by the pomp and ceremony of today. he told us a little bit about talking to the duke of cambridge inside the ceremony, saying that of course the duke of cambridge was a student as an andrews and he was pretty knowledgeable about golf but he also said they had time to talk about other sportsmen and women they admired, others what they enjoyed and he said again, when you look back at his career and reflected on his career today and what he has achieved, getting the mbe is here at buckingham palace was still pretty special. my services to golf have been recognised today, but this is something that... it is not a linear
1:38 pm
position. in golf, if you shoot a lower score, you win. this is something other people have recommended you for an other people have decided you are fitting and wordy for so you appreciate it. it is more humbling than other victories. both of them have now left the palace for private family time now. they can go off and hopefullyjustin rose time now. they can go off and hopefully justin rose isn't time now. they can go off and hopefullyjustin rose isn't watching because his wife told us she has planned a special surprise to frame at all. i hope we have not spoiled his surprise! that's all the sport for now. i'll have more for you in the next hour. more now on the news that angelina jolie and gwyneth paltrow have joined a growing list of women accusing harvey weinstein of sexual harassment. he says he "unequivocally" denies all the allegations including three of rape. earlier, victoria derbyshire spoke to the hollywood writer perez hilton, who's been covering the story. well, what shocked me most about these allegations is the extent of the abuse towards countless women and the stature of these women.
1:39 pm
it wasn't predominantly unknown actresses, it was everybody from now speaking on the record gwyneth paltrow and angelina jolie to ashleyjudd, rosanna arquette and more. and it's also more than just women claiming sexual harassment, italian actress asia argento has spoken on the record and she claims that harvey weinstein raped her. other women have also spoken off the record to reporters claiming similarly that they too were raped by harvey weinstein and this is going to have a major domino effect in hollywood. he denies thosee allegations of rape. he says his sexual relationship were always consensual. i personally had never heard
1:40 pm
of these rumours before, but many people have spoken publicly about it being an open secret in hollywood which is just so disgusting to me. i read yesterday a joke that the host of the oscars made a couple of years ago saying that actresses no longer had to pretend to be sexually attracted to harvey weinstein. thatjoke had to come from somewhere and the fact that this man was able to do this for decades without reproach, i mean, the new york police department was even working on trying to set up a sting operation to arrest him, but he was so powerful and women were so afraid of him that he was able to continue this vile pattern of behaviour. in terms of the fact that it was apparently this open secret
1:41 pm
and that there were many around him that were, it would seem, complicit if the allegations are true, what do you think of that? i think it is going to be only a matter of time until the weinstein company as a whole just folds. would you expect more big hollywood female stars to come out over the coming days? i expect a lot more stars to come out. i mean, i was really surprised that angelina jolie was vocal today and also surprised that gwyneth paltrow was vocal. in a moment a summary of the business news this hour but first, the headlines on bbc news: the chancellor says he will wait until the "last moment" before spending money on preparing for the uk to leave the eu without a deal. the spanish prime minister, mariano rajoy, says his government

1:44 pm
demanding? it's really more about the industry changing its attitude to women. what we saw in our work was believed that women are quite different to men when it comes to financial services. not so much everyday banking and current accou nts everyday banking and current accounts where they are really confident and engaged and competence, but as you move into some of the product you mentioned earlier like investment and pensions, they struggle a little more with the complexity. they lack perhaps the confidence and engagement that men do and you see that manifested itself in things like women having less savings for retirement and having more of their savings in cash. as you say, this is more about those high—end products because in many households it will because in many households it will be the woman running the household finances so you are talking more about investments, that sort of thing. what needs to be done?” think the first thing is to understand women's context is quite different from men's women are very interested in understanding more about supporting their families and their relatives and people around them. now with financial services tend to be more focused on individual products and what that
1:45 pm
means for them so that is one thing. the other thing is that women are more risk averse and they like to seek more validation from their peer group around the decisions they are making in financial services or they look more do things like social media, for example, to check the information and also to see what others think of their decisions and things like that are not necessarily the way banks are approaching communicating with women. they don't necessarily apply that kind of female lens to their communications. what does the industry need to do to ensure that there are serving all of their potential customers equally? they really need to think about how women are different in this category because there are some fundamental differences and they need to think about things like their product portfolio, based around the way women's lives work, then you think about empowering women and helping them engage with the category do things like simplifying the language, making it feel less like e—mail category. that was one of our big findings was that men and women

see pensions and investments as a male world and that is their difficult for women to engage with. thank you for your time. in other business news: a group of bombardier workers from belfast are due to meet mps later in an effort to press the government over a trade dispute that threatens jobs at the aerospace firm. rival firm boeing says bombardier has been selling planes at below cost price, because it gets what boeing says are unfair, illegal subsidies. the us government has now imposed tarrifs of 300%. struggling pet chainjust for pets has been rescued from the administrators by a supply firm — although seven of its 25 stores are due to close. buyer pedigree wholesale, which supplies pet, aquatic and garden centre products to shops, plans to keep 200 jobs but said just for pets will close in evesham, burton—upon—trent, northampton, nottingham, reading, wellington, yardley. and starting today, a number of pret a manger shops will be encouraging customers to fill up their water bottles free of charge using new filtered water stations. these shops will also start selling two sizes of reusable glass bottles alongside regular water bottles.
