leading paralympic nation but behind the glory do is growing concern that the glory do is growing concern that the classification of athletes according to disability is being manipulated for medals. 11 time paralympic champion baroness tanni grey—thompson conducted into our report of duty of care earlier this year and told mps that the system in the uk was being increasingly abused and athletes have been warned to keep quiet. people have been told not to talk about classification. a wide variety of people in the system. sophie and olivia are two top paralympians and today their father said he had been told by athletes that one could have been competing in the wrong category.
6:34 pm
within the conversation she said the athlete in question did not have cerebral palsy. she had learning difficulties. but she ended up with cerebral palsy classification. in a statement tonight it was that the international paralympic statement tonight it was that the international pa ralympic committee last year confirmed she had been classified correctly after review and was distressing to face repeated and was distressing to face repeated and unfounded allegations. another leading paralympian denies that the system is being cheated. my class is a lwa ys system is being cheated. my class is always described as an cerebral palsy class and i do have cerebral palsy. but that is just a lazy analysis of the classification, you cannot compare one to the other. the classification of athletes is not an exact science but the evidence today will intensify calls for more independent, professionaland

when i feel the players deserve and romelu always deserves because what he does for the team, what he does for the team is fantastic and playing football for a striker is notjust about scoring goals. so for me, untouchable in my team and i think he should be untouchable also in the support and the respect that he deserves from the fans. chelsea can also secure their place in the last 16 of the competition with victory at roma tonight. the two sides shared six goals a fortnight ago and hoping for more excitement tonight are 5live's commentary team of phil neville and john murray. here we are outside the olympic stadium in rome ahead of the roma and chelsea match tonight. phil

neville is with me. are we going to see a game like we had at stamford bridge? i hope so, it was a fantastic game, both teams took the lead and both had to come back from being behind. fantastic goals and good players. the roma fans quite fa ncy good players. the roma fans quite fancy their chances. chelsea will have two produce a similar performance to what they did when they went to atletico madrid earlier in the competition. where do you think chelsea are at the moment? i think chelsea are at the moment? i think i was worried about them three games ago, there was a lot of discontent from the camp, the manager did not really inspire with the words that he was using but i watched them at the weekend against bournemouth and eden hazard is back to his best, scoring goals. he looks to his best, scoring goals. he looks to be the player that we saw last season. to be the player that we saw last season. i think they've struggled through consistency and team selection but they're heading in the right direction. they have got roma tonight and manchester united on

this evening are coming more in hope than expectation. but the manager is a lwa ys than expectation. but the manager is always confident, always assured and looking for patients. they are an honest group of players and they give everything to their work, they're super professional. they've shown it consistently, growing at this level and we have a lot of young players gaining invaluable experience. it takes time. but we hope some were soon experience. it takes time. but we hope some were soon we can get a good result. celtic are third in group band good result. celtic are third in group b and already looking good for a place in the europa league. in terms of this evening bayern munich have some injury problems so there isa have some injury problems so there is a glimmer of hope for the home side. they are without thomas muller and lewandowski. so strange things have been known to happen here on this halloween evening at celtic

6:47 pm
birmingham team are still confident that they will be chosen as the host city. realistically though the commonwealth games federation somewhat have their hands tied because still even after extending the deadline birmingham are the only city to submit an official bid. we knew some aspects of the bid is still needed to be finalised, some of the fine detail and we're working with the federation now, i spent two daysin with the federation now, i spent two days in meetings with them last week to make sure we can satisfy all their requirements. it is a matter ultimately by the federation, we do not know how strong any other bids could be. buti not know how strong any other bids could be. but i think we're in pretty good shape to satisfy their further queries by the deadline. after beating a joint bid from liverpool and manchester support for birmingham is high, recently west midlands mps pledged their support by sending a letter to the commonwealth games federation. we have fantastic support from west midlands mayor andy street and ian ward from birmingham city council and cross—party support from all mps

in the area. it would be an opportunity for birmingham to catapult itself onto a global stage. it has fantastic experience of hosting major events, the g8 summit, world indoor athletics, the rugby world cup. it has never hosted a multi sports games of this nature before they think it would be one of those pieces that lifted to another level. negotiations surrounding the birmingham bid are ongoing, they have until the new deadline of the 30th of november to prove that they have what it takes to host a commonwealth games. and it would be indeed the most expensive sports events to come to the uk since the london olympics. i think it would bring great culture to the city and i think it could create the future athletes from the commonwealth games because i set the tone and watched the commonwealth games and i thought i want to be there. and now i am. i think it would be good inspiration. with the winter paralympics only a few months away, and just two weeks until the first world cup, one of britain's big medal hopes has had his kit stolen.
6:49 pm
para snowboarderjames barnes—miller, who finished 4th in the world championships last year, has had ten thousand pounds worth of equipment, belonging to him, his coach and the british team stolen from the back of a van in disley in greater manchester. james spoke to olly foster here in the studio a little earlier. it is getting, training has been going amazingly well. i could not have asked for a better lead up to the world cup and into the paralympics. and then this has hit me, it is hard enough getting the funding to fund the season anyway but then to have to find more funding to get new equipment, it is a hard one. it is not ideal. how damaging is this to your preparations? massively. i have my first world cup in two weeks' time. soi first world cup in two weeks' time. so i need to find new kit, all my
6:50 pm
kit and not just the so i need to find new kit, all my kit and notjust the board, it is everything. add all that kit has been modified and customised to me. so not just buying been modified and customised to me. so notjust buying a new board from the shelf, i then have to put wax on it, said my bindings up and get the boots refitted. so it is not great. what kind of position were you in any way? it is hard, it is an expensive sport. and now, it is hard to find the money to get to all the races and the training. and get the equipment i need. and then to have to find more money to get new kit that i already had it hard. but i have a good team behind me. so hopefully we can do it.
