easy water surfing, you are looking at that in six months. not the a nswer at that in six months. not the answer he was looking for. he did say a couple of time frames which we re say a couple of time frames which were not what i wanted to hear. but it has given me confidence, come back stronger, for sure. 100%. you know, before you know it, the latest october 20 18. know, before you know it, the latest october 2018. one know, before you know it, the latest october 20 18. one brave man, considering this was the last time he took on the surf and the surf won. and before we go — st mirren defender stelios demetriou had a renfrewshire derby to remember as he had a chocolate bar thrown at him. a member of the morton home support hit the former cyprus under—21 international with a bounty as the sides played out a 1—1 draw. he reacted by picking up the bar, unwrapping it and shoving it in his mouth. thank god that wasn't a

toblerone. it is a missile come i don't know what is going to happen. he picks it up, unwrapping it, the best way to react, it tastes all right. he throws it back onto the floor. that's all from sportsday. we'll have more sport on bbc news throughout the evening. you are watching bbc news. president trump's former chief strategist steve bannon is reported to have described a meeting between president's son and a russian lawyer during the 2016 presidential election campaign as treasonous and unpatriotic. he is understood to have made the comments enabled which is due to be published next week. this evening, mr trump issued a statement saying that steve bannon has nothing to do with me or my

presidency. when he was fired, he not only lost hisjob, presidency. when he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind. let's get more on this now. a major falling out, mind. let's get more on this now. a majorfalling out, clearly, between two men that were incredibly close for those crucial months leading up to the election vote last november? steve bannon was the head of the conservative media empire breitbart and was brought in by donald trump after the republican national convention to manage the campaign. he saw that to victory and became a senior white house adviser once donald trump assumed the presidency and served in that capacity for a number of months. he is viewed as sort of an ideological spirit guide for donald trump. he embraced the conservative populism that donald trump campaigned on from the beginning. since he left the white house and was eventually forced out,
6:53 pm
he has been a bit of a wild card. he supported insurgent campaigns challenging republican incumbents, he says he will do that because he views the conservative populism that he embraces as bigger than just the trumpet presidency. he feels he needs to help overcome the republican establishment to get these turns into policy. to see a break in donald trump's base is a fairly remarkable development. donald trump, when his son was criticised, i suppose it is not surprising to hear him fireback so vociferously. the suggestion that this meeting at trump tower, that involved donald junior and the president's son—in—law, jared kushner, and somebody from russia, clearly this suggestion is that steve bannon had no idea this was
6:54 pm
taking place, and if he did, he would have gone to the fbi or would have said it is a ridiculous thing to do? right, this meeting happened injune 2016. it was before steve bannon came in to the trump campaign. paul manafort, the campaign. paul manafort, the campaign chairat the campaign. paul manafort, the campaign chair at the time, was also in that meeting. the trump supporters have developed an explanation, saying nothing came of it, the principles involved were not paying attention, despite the fact that it was billed to donald trump junior as possibly presenting damaging information on hillary clinton that would be provided by the russians. they said they didn't get anything, it was brushed off, kind of a reflection of the chaotic nature of the pain. now you have steve bannon, a valued member of the trumpet ina steve bannon, a valued member of the trumpet in a circle, calling it unpatriotic and treasonous. —— of

the trump inner circle. it significantly undercuts the line that the white house has tried to use to defend their position. to hear from somebody that used to be one of donald trump's greatest advocates, that is what makes it so jarring. i willjust read you a little bit more from the statement from donald trump, in response to the suggestion from steve bannon that this meeting that the president's son and son—in—law had with this russian before the election campaign last year was ridiculous. he says that steve bannon was a staffer who worked for me after i had already won denomination by defeating 17 candidates, often described as the most talented field ever assembled in the republican party. this is to win the nomination to run for the white house. now that steve is on his own, and he has been fired, of course, he is learning that winning

isn't as easy as i make it look. he had very little to do with our historic victory, which was delivered by the forgotten men and women of this country. yet steve had everything to do with the loss of a senate seat in alabama, which took place recently. let's talk to a senior reporterfor place recently. let's talk to a senior reporter for politico. what do you make of this huge falling out between steve bannon and the president? well, it is a pretty impressive rupture, that is for sure. it is something on the order of which we had not really seen before in the white house. in the substance, it is not shocking over this russia issue, with steve bannon historically having been a nationalist figure, ethnic nationalism, whatever you want to call it. there was no particular reason to think he would have some affinity for russia. in fact, he would have some hostility to

overseas forces , would have some hostility to overseas forces, and trade, and so forth. i am overseas forces, and trade, and so forth. lam not overseas forces, and trade, and so forth. i am not surprised that he might see this entry the campaign was making to rush about 2016 as treasonous. the only thing i am surprised about is that he would say that in front of a reporter. that is the interesting thing. the suggestion that steve bannon had next to nothing to do with the presidential election victory, is that correct? i mean, ifind presidential election victory, is that correct? i mean, i find that kind of article. —— farcical. he was a very key player in the general election campaign, the general election campaign, the general election strategy. many other things the president did surrounding the with hillary clinton, they are clearly bannon tactics. it's impossible to believe there is somebody else in the trump orbit that was organising that stuff. that was steve bannon. interesting that trump again tried to downplay one of
6:58 pm
his top advisers, suggesting that he was not ak party of the victory. he previously said that paul manafort, his campaign chairman, that he also didn't play a critical role in the victory. it starts to look like trump is the only person that played a pivotal role in his winning. thank you. much more on that coming up in beyond 100 days. it is still pretty bloody out there, but storm eleanor is well out of the picture. it is actually across southern scandinavia, centred around denmark, copenhagen, infact. this is where the storm is. there is another area of low pressure with weather fronts heading another area of low pressure with weatherfronts heading in our direction. there will be more wind and rain, but nothing of the scale of what we have just had. through the course of the night, a lot of

clear skies, like a wind across many eastern and northern areas. you can see the next weather fronts weeping from the atlantic and an increasing wind. the rain could be very heavy for a time across south—western areas. there is a potentialfor some flooding. the wind will be touching tale force, the tides are high and there could be rough conditions out to sea. it takes a while for the sea to sea. it takes a while for the sea to calm down after a storm. tomorrow afternoon, rain in the north and it will be quite chilly. relatively balmy in plymouth. you're watching beyond one hundred days. north and south korea open communication channels as donald trump launches a twitter taunt. in a slew of tweets, the us president boasts that his nuclear button is bigger than that of kim jong un. maybe it was just a joke, but goading a leader as unpredictable as north korea's could also be reckless. for protestors out again on the streets of iran, mr trump offers respect and promises america's support. what that means in practice is not yet clear.

and the president has choice words for his former chief strategist. he said when he lost his job for his former chief strategist. he said when he lost hisjob he for his former chief strategist. he said when he lost his job he also lost his mind. also on the programme. polluting the planet — almost all the plastic in our oceans
