was suffering we understand from a stomach bug, it wasn't the heat exhaustion we earlier thought it might have been, but i think in the hot temperatures in sydney wouldn't have been pleasant but he couldn't resume his innings at the start of play so moeen ali went out with jonny bairstow, but he's now gone out to bat after moeen's wicket fell and he was in some discomfort, he has kept drinking water, not surprising, but he is still battling, he's got through to lunch, which gives him another chance to get a crucial rest. you mention the loss of moeen ali's wicket, butjoe root has a half—century, promising from england given they only lost one wicket in the morning session? it could have been worse. moeen lasted an hour before nathan lyon got him for the seventh time in this series, quite an alarming statistic, but then root came in with bairstow, health problems notwithstanding not too many alarms, they will be pleased they got to lunch and given

england a glimmer of a chance. 144—5 at lunch. the england tail is quite long and australia have a second new ball looming, they have used it very well in this match so that period could be very much crucial. you mentioned nathan lyon taking the wicket of moeen ali, has that been the difference in this series, the australian consistency?” the difference in this series, the australian consistency? i think soap. you only have to look at this test match, on the thursday england we re test match, on the thursday england were 220—3 and going well and they lostjoe root were 220—3 and going well and they lost joe root and were 220—3 and going well and they lostjoe root and jonny bairstow quickly together and that switched the momentum of the match. england will say they've been competitive against australia for periods of test matches but they keep losing those crucial moments and in test cricket that is crucial. if you don't have players that can produce a bit of brilliance when you need it, you're not going to win matches and england have had not enough to win in australia. patrick gearey, we will let you get back to the heat

of that to see the team lose because we played a very good nottingham forest tea m we played a very good nottingham forest team who were sharp, focused, won the challenges that were decisive, you know? and i think overall our performance was not good enough today to win the game. no such problems for arsenal's north london rivals totteham as harry kane scored twice in a 3—0 win over wimbledon. jan vertonghen claimed thelast goal with all of them coming in the second half at wembley against their third tier opponents. i always say i try to put the best side to play. i think if you compare with the carabao cup it was a similar side, almost as strong. you know, i think we need to treat our players not like machines, like humans, and we need to manage them and provide them to play to all the squad, it's so important. for me

top q in terms of the construction of the team i think he'll bring a lot of innovative options, interior, exterior. it's up to me now to capitalise on that and get the best out of him. it's a huge player, of course, that's arriving and i hope to help him adapt to the team and i hope of course that he will help us. i wish him a lot of luck and if things go well this could be a beautiful relationship. coutinho being shown off comes after the catalans 3—0 victory at home to levante which means they're nine points clear of second placed atletico, real could only manage a point against celta vigo. two gareth bale goals had put them in front but a late equaliser from maxi gomes means they're 16 points behind the catalans and it could've been worse had keylor navas not saved an iago aspas penalty. porto remain two points clear at the top of the portuguese primeira liga after a 11—2 home victory over vitoria de guimaraes. all four goals for the hosts came after the half time interval as they came from a goal down, yacine brahimi gave them the lead for the first time just after the hour mark as they were going for a fourth

morning to come. anywhere south of birmingham we're likely to see a bit of a grey morning, some hill fog possible across the south—west and this cloud could bring a few spots of drizzle and perhaps a few snow grains too, that's small grains of frozen precipitation gradually edging their way northwards but many places staying dry, feeling quite chilly where you are stuck under the cloud in the south. lots more sunshine and light winds too for northern england, northern ireland and scotland. so it's a north—south split to the day on monday with temperatures at around 2—5 degrees in the sunshine in the north. slightly milder further south, 4—7, but feeling colder with the breeze, the cloud and the drizzle as well. through the course of monday night then, we'll see that cloud thicken wind and moving northwards across all of the country, bringing with it a lot of low cloud, hill fog, mistand murk and also some drizzle. the risk of some ice as well as that drizzle falls onto very cold surfaces. so tuesday morning starts on a great, cold and an icy note. through the day things will start to slowly improve as the winds pick up a bit from the west, so that cloud should just break up a little bit later on in the day.
1:57 am
there will be a little bit of drizzle here and there ahead of this next band of wet weather moving into the west later on and the winds are going to be picking up too. top temperatures by the time we get to tuesday, between around about 3—7 degrees for most places but we could just see double—digit is returning to the south—west later in the day. so this frontal system will eventually move in tuesday night into wednesday, bringing a spell of rain. it bumps into an area of high pressure so the front doesn't get across the country very quickly. in fact, it's going to linger for a time on wednesday. could bring some spells of rain across eastern parts of the country. from the west, a return to sunnier skies, but sunshine and a few showers. temperatures back up to around 5—10, so milder through the middle part of the week after that very icy start. so to summarise the week ahead for you, it is a cold start, a lot of frost first thing. some rain through the middle part of the week and then eventually things are going to turn less cold later in the week. bye for now. welcome to bbc news, broadcasting to viewers in north america
