that financial services won't be included in a free trade agreement. we heard the president's envoy saying the same thing this morning. what are you going to do to change the eu's mind? translation: first of all, please allow me to be very clear. i'm here neither to punish or compliment. i'm here to make sure to neither to punish nor reward. i want to make sure that the single market is preserved because that's very much the heart of the european union. so the heart of the european union. so the choice is on the british side, not on my side. they can have the no different access to the financial services, if you want access to the single market, including the financial services, be my guest. but it means that you need to contribute to the budget and acknowledge the europeanjurisdiction. such

to the budget and acknowledge the european jurisdiction. such are the rules we know this is a system already in place for norway. if you wa nt already in place for norway. if you want trade access it won't cover everything it's not access to the single market or financial services. otherwise it's closer to the situation of canada. we have some trade agreements which allow access to you a the services, be they financial or others. access as well to any industry sector, but not the same level of relationship as if you are a memberof same level of relationship as if you are a member of the single market. there shall be no high pocks ary in this respect or it wouldn't work or we will destroy the single market and its coe herence. it's simple. i don't want to exclude any sector in the trade agreement to come. the negotiations will be led by michel barnier, but it does mean that the access that it will allow will be equivalent to access as if you are a memberof the equivalent to access as if you are a member of the single market. you can choose between norway or being the

equivalent of a current member of the european union. then full access. what i set out in the lancaster house speech and indeed in the florence speech was our desire to develop, to negotiate a comprehensive free trade agreement with the eu 27 for a deep and special partnership in the future. we recognise that as we're leaving the european union we will no longer be full members of the single market. we recognise that. there will be a different relationship. in future. a different set of balance of rights and responsibilities and we've been very clear about that. i believe that it is actually in the interests, not just of the believe that it is actually in the interests, notjust of the united kingdom, but also of the european union, as it goes forward, to continue to have a good economic relationship and partnership with the uk. i believe that should cover both goods and services. i think the city of london will continue to be a

major globalfinancial city of london will continue to be a major global financial centre. that is an advantage, notjust for the united kingdom, it's actually good for europe and good for the global financial system, but we will obviously be entering these negotiations. which we are able to do having got sufficient progress in december in phase one of the negotiations, and, as i've said, we will be looking for a deep and special partnership for the future. a comprehensive free trade agreement, but also a good ongoing security relationship with the european union. because once again this is in the interests of all of us. we're leaving the european union, but we're not leaving europe. would you like to take a final question from the french media? reporter: translation: good evening. great britain is giving money and agrees
6:54 pm
to ta ke britain is giving money and agrees to take some migrants on its territory and migrants it was something expected for many months. you have agreed upon many of the... 0k. you have agreed upon many of the... ok. we will leave that press conference now. the two leaders taking a variety of questions, brexit of course, but also co—operation on security and on migrants on the other side of the channel. we can speak now to our chief political correspondent, vicky young, at sandhurst and listening to the whole press conference. what are the whole press conference. what are the main points you took away from that? well i think it was interesting, wasn't, it the tone of the whole thing. talking about all the whole thing. talking about all the shared interests of the two countries going back over many centuries. talking about all the areas of co—operation, whether that is defence and security. i think in terms of new developments this new

sandhurst treaty they talked about there, which centres around calais, particularly how unaccompanied children are treated. trying to speed up the whole process so they're not stuck there for months on the other hand end. reducing that waiting time from six months to 25 days for children. interesting too i think that mr macron said brexit was not at the heart of their discussions but it's the back drop to everything. the questions from the british journalists you started to get towards some of the differences some of the tensions that there are with mr macron laying out clearly that we couldn't have oui’ out clearly that we couldn't have our cake out clearly that we couldn't have ourcake and out clearly that we couldn't have our cake and eat it. he's talking about a norway option, to have full access to the single market with financial services we need to pay into the been like norway, he said. he was asked about whether britain could still be influential. he felt that, yes, they could. i think obviously the sound bite of the day when emmanuel macron talked about the two countries making a new

ta pestry the two countries making a new tapestry together. he certainly knows how to deliver a sound bite. right at the end you saw the issues that there will be. we have heard french government over the months, since the brexit vote, saying they think cityjobs from london could go to paris. they are sitting waiting to paris. they are sitting waiting to maybe benefit from all of that. i think that is still an issue. he feels very much he will be influential in the european union, but very much emphasising those close ties all the areas that the two countries can work together in and saying that of course we have differences over brexit, but he thinks that shouldn't get in the way of the deep and special relationship. when we were speaking earlier before you had seen the two leaders you talked about how important body language would be and the sort of chemistry there might be between the two leaders. what did you make of that? yeah, i mean it looked pretty cordiale, didn't it? they have met at other summits. theresa may has been over to

visit emmanuel macron. they seemed at ease with each other. they do wa nt at ease with each other. they do want this relationship to work and they know it will be an important one. i think for emmanuel macron because he does see himself in this very important role within the european union, not maybe a leader of it, certainly an up—and—coming leader of that political union on. . theresa may is looking to forge relationships with other countries once we leave the eu. this is very important. the ceremony around, being here at sandhurst, inspecting the troops, the fly—past adds to the sense of a special bond. maybe with theissues sense of a special bond. maybe with the issues with president trump it become a closer relationship as those months go on. many thanks. our

clearing from southern england. it will be a quieter day, sunshine, fewer showers but wet and windy weather spreading north—east on sunday. you're watching beyond 100 days. the french president arrives in britain — he offers the gift of a tapestry and takes away millions of pounds. at the high profile summit, the prime minister agrees to increase funding for border controls in calais. mr macron is given a taste of british life — lunch in the pub and a suitably rainy day. but there's some criticism that he's got too much out of this visit. we will reinforce the security infrastructure with extra cctv, fencing and infrared technology at calais and other border points. translation: brexit will never prevent the high level of cooperation between our countries. it could bring about uncertainties in the short term. countdown to shutdown.
