england international, widely regarded as a pioneer, who helped break down racial barriers in the game. brighton were hosting the premier league champions, chelsea, who were missing a number of first—team regulars through injury and suspension. one man who was playing was eden hazard. and it didn't take long for him to make his mark. three minutes later, half the brighton team could do nothing to stop this intricate passing move. the brazilian international, willian, with a well worked goal, which again involved hazard. and things didn't get any betterfor the home side, who felt they should have had at least one penalty in the first half. brighton did have their chances after the break, but it was that man again, hazard. a brilliant solo effort to put antonio conte‘s side 3—0 up and on course for all three points for the first time this year. but they weren't finished just yet. victor moses making it four.

an emphatic victory for chelsea. it was a memorable day for eden hazard, the man of the match, and perhaps even more memorable for this young fan. ade adedoyin, bbc news. you're not going to top that, are you, getting a search of eden hazard? what a moment for that young fan andi hazard? what a moment for that young fan and i guess it is fair to say that antonio conte will be pretty pleased with that because chelsea's form has been patchy of late. john bennettjoins me now and that is what i was going to say to you, that chelsea are back to winning ways and antonio conte had not been happy before the game. five draws in a row if you include the game against norwich although they won on penalties after 1—1 draw, a good win from chelsea as you saw, there, their first draw, a good win from chelsea as you saw, there, theirfirst win in 2018 and they are on the hunt for a striker. antonio conte once. peter crouch has been mentioned. we will talk about him later! edin dzeko but

hazard and willian proved that without morata and pedro, they can still cause problems. hazard has scored or assisted 102 premier league goals now, he has overtaken gianfranco zola who had 101. before we hear from gianfranco zola who had 101. before we hearfrom antonio gianfranco zola who had 101. before we hear from antonio conte, gianfranco zola who had 101. before we hearfrom antonio conte, i got the impression the scoreline was a bit harsh on brighton because i know they have been struggling but they we re they have been struggling but they were not that bad today. they tried something different, went with five at the back and it did not quite work but they have not beaten chelsea since 1933 so it would a lwa ys chelsea since 1933 so it would always be difficult. let's ever antonio conte, delighted the run of drawers is over. —— hearfrom antonio conte, delighted the run of drawn games. i saw important things. now we have to continue because don't forget, in the last four games, we have finished three games with 0—0. today, we scored four goals. i'm very happy. we had some good periods in their game and! we had some good periods in their game and i thought we came onto a
6:35 pm
good game, i thought we responded really well from being 2—0 down but then we conceded two paul goals, which i think —— paul goals which i think make the scoreline for me not a reflection. exactly what we were saying, chris hughtonjust said, exactly what we were saying, chris hughton just said, let's exactly what we were saying, chris hughtonjust said, let's move on exactly what we were saying, chris hughton just said, let's move on to the late kick—off because runaway league leaders manchester city are an action against newcastle and they are1—0 up. an action against newcastle and they are 1-0 up. newcastle made a good start, actually, let's look at the first half highlights, a cross from the left, zinchenko scoring, his first premier league start, the 21—year—old, did really well to clear the ball away, ederson cleared it, this is the goal, kevin de bruyne, and aguero just gets a touch, we think, possibly his hair getting the final touch! have a look, i think it is aguero's goal, 1-0 look, i think it is aguero's goal, 1—0 manchester city against newcastle, 48 minutes gone. only one defeat in 23 premier league games, the first defeat was last weekend against liverpool. that means

manchester united, who were briefly closing the massive gap to what was it, 13 points, beat burnley1—0. if city go that will buy back but united's goalfrom city go that will buy back but united's goal from martial, city go that will buy back but united's goalfrom martial, normally one “— united's goalfrom martial, normally one —— one of only two on target and normally give me the stack is because the bbc website called this effective rather than entertaining. that seems to be the way with united at the moment. i was quite impressed with them in the second half, only two shots but they defended well and burnley gave as good as they got, the kind of game that alexis sanchez would have fitted in well for manchester united, trying to make a difference and jose mourinho spoke about sanchez after the game and said the deal is now closed but a 1-0 said the deal is now closed but a 1—0 win, anthony martial with the only goal and they are keeping up the pressure just about, only goal and they are keeping up the pressurejust about, as it stands, 12 points is the gap. here is jose stands, 12 points is the gap. here isjose mourinho. these three points are the same as when you win three or 4—0. this is a

stadium where it is notjust a stadium, the opponent, even when they go to your house, the way they play, they are brave. they are physical. they are very consistent in their approach and it was really difficult. but we scored our goal, we could have scored more. we defended very well. i should have looked this up beforehand but have burnley won or lost a ny beforehand but have burnley won or lost any games by more than a goal this season? rhodes they beat swa nsea this season? rhodes they beat swansea 2—0 but they have been struggling to score, a fourth successive clean sheet for david de gea is always would be tough today but they did ok i think. sean dyche won't be too disappointed with the performance. in the end, the definitive moment is a fantastic finish. sometimes that happens against big teams because you can ta ke against big teams because you can take them on in many different ways as we did today and they have found the moment. that is our next stage of development, i think, in tight games like that, can we find the
6:38 pm
moment? we have done that a lot this season, by the way, so we are not too far away, especially with performances like that. arsenal beat crystal palace 4—0 and considering how well paris have been playing, that is quite something. who needs alexis sanchez? they did not need him in the first 22 minutes, 4—0 up, monorail, iwobi, koscielny and la cazette, monorail, iwobi, koscielny and lacazette, great goal, mesut ozil with six touches before it. they need to keep hold of him. in terms of tra nsfers, need to keep hold of him. in terms of transfers, then vega has confirmed they will only let sanchez go if mkhitarayan comes the other way and he says nothing is happening —— happening at the moment with pierre—emerick aubameyang but ours and vendor was delighted with the's performance and the win. —— but arsene wenger was delighted with today's performance. we started very well. we played our game like we can play it, you know, quick, fast passing and good combinations and movement. some good chances. after that, i think the whole first half was all top quality. the second half didn't manage to keep the same urgency and drive but overall, it was a convincing win. it was convincing but slightly harsh

impressed upon us, it was 4—1. that might have been my fault! moving on to stoke, who beat huddersfield 2—0, what an entrance for this mallemort has paul lambert done? great start for paul lambert who was an animated on the touchline, you will see it on match of the day, joe allen with the first, mame biram diouf with the second, really good performance but it was imported to keep a clean sheet against huddersfield who have conceded ten in their last three and huddersfield are in trouble, really worrying for them, no wins since the 16th of december in the league but it was all about paul lambert‘s great start. we will look at the table ina great start. we will look at the table in a moment but let's here from paul lambert first. i thought the performance from start to finish was outstanding. we've only been in since last tuesday, three days training, trying to get as much into them as you possibly can without overloading the brain but their effort and drive and

commitment along with the support he was huge. i thought we looked really good. everton and west brom, 1—1, lots to talk about not least a nasty broken leg forjames mccarthy. this was horrendous and i think he will be out for a long time and the players are devastated on the pitch. salomon rondon was in tears. it was a challenge on salomon rondon which led to the injury. 1—1, oumar niasse saving the day for everton a minute after coming on. theo walcott made his debut, difficult first half, second had a couple of chances, not his best afternoon but 1—1 was a fair result and lots of tributes to cyrille regis. of course. a good win for leicester, 2—0 against watford, who are stuttering again. to seventh, watford with just one win in11 again. to seventh, watford with just one win in 11 premier league games, jamie vardy and riyad mahrez on the scoresheet, nervous times for leicester, they want the transfer window over so they can keep hold of riyad mahrez for the rest of the

season. let's look at the result and a p pa re ntly season. let's look at the result and apparently claude puel has been moaning about having too many strikers because where are they talking about jamie va rdy strikers because where are they talking aboutjamie vardy going? strikers because where are they talking about jamie vardy going? he won't go anywhere. people have been talking about it. yes but riyad mahrez is the one who will possibly go. let's look at how this affects the tables and as i said, we talked about united but who are the movers and shakers? leicester up to seventh. yes, really good wins for chelsea, arsenal, manchester city winning, manchester united winners as well and liverpool against swa nsea as well and liverpool against swansea on monday. what of the table, the game we did not mention, west ham against bournemouth, 1—1, two goals in two minutes, ryan fraser and have you hernandez. very big game for swansea on monday. stoke out of the relegation zone, 2-0, stoke out of the relegation zone, 2—0, paul lambert‘s first game in charge. thanks to john 2—0, paul lambert‘s first game in charge. thanks tojohn for his wonderful round—up as always. cardiff will look to maintain

their push for automatic promotion with victory over sheffield wednesday in the late kick—off in the championship. victory and they will pull level with second placed derby who trail the league leaders wolves. at the moment the game is still goalless. sheffield wednesday had the best chance of the game so far when adam reach lasted over after jordan rhodes' effort was well saved. he should have done better. the initial saved by neil etheridge. that was just before half—time. about 35 minutes remaining at hillsborough. the league leaders missed the chance to go 12 points clear as they suffered an upset at home, beaten 2—0 by nottimgham forest. aston villa are third, they beat barnsley 3—1. fulham thrashed bottom of the table burton 6—0, to maintain their push for promotion. while millwall won a seven—goal thriller at 10—man leeds. sunderland, now under the guidance of manager chris coleman, gave their hopes of survival a boost, with victory over hull.

ryan christie sccored twice for aberdeen as they eased their way into the fifth round of the scottish cup with a 4—1win over championship side st mirren. adam rooney opened the scoring from the spot before christie's double gave them a 3—1 lead at half time. then the goal of the game came two minutes into the second half. gary mackay—steven's outstanding effort to seal their place in tomorrow's fifth round draw. dundee united are also through, knocking out alloa. ayr united comfortably beat league 1 rivals arbroath. celtic beat the championship's bottom side 5—0. inverness earned a replay with top—flight dundee. result of the day came from brora rangers who reached the last 16 of the cup for the first time with a 1—0 win over east fife. motherwell won the lanarkshire derby beating local rivals hamilton. the holders saracens remain in contention to reach the quarterfinals of rugby

union's champions cup. there was a huge amount to play for heading into the final weekend of group matches, with leinster the only team guaranteed of a place in the last eight at the start of the day. james burford's been working out the permuations. welcome to the mathematical maze that is champions cup rugby. with a host of possibilities, all saracens needed to focus on was putting as many points as possible in the plus column. saints' early progress perhaps flattered to deceive as theirs was the first score. cobus reinach going over for the first points. but then began the onslaught. quick combinations usually equal tries in rugby and no difference here as the home side soon found their feet and the try line. the bonus point has never been more important. securing four scores before half—time a welcome addition. saracens have not been knocked out at the pool stages since 2011. their performance today shows why. seven tries in all and a big win under pressure. they have given themselves a chance,
6:45 pm
the defending champions. they are still part of the equation but it will be a nervous night's sleep awaiting tomorrow's results. james burford, bbc news. well saracens' lifeline is at the expense of ospreys who lost 24—7 at pool leaders clermont auvergne. nick abendanon gave the hosts the lead. clermont led 13—0 at half time and although ospreys pulled that back to 13—7 with this well—worked move finished by ashley beck. the french side had pulled clear with a couple of penalties this try from luke mcalister finished things off. clermont auvergne finish top of pool b, ospreys are out. that leaves scarlets as the only welsh side who could still qualify. if they beat the three—time winners toulon, they will win the pool. a losing bonus point should be enough to send toulon through. and that would end bath's hopes of qualifying. scarlets currently leading 30—21!

with about 25 minutes remaining. potentially looking good for them. they have been playing very well. glasgow ended exeter‘s hopes of qualifying. the english champions had to win. but they lost 28—21 at scotstoon. stuart hogg with a try—scoring return from injury but it was tommy seymour who scored one of the tries of the tournament to help give warriors their only victory of the competition. wasps play tomorrow, and need a bonus point win to keep their hopes alive. it's going to be tight. an exciting weekend in the champions cup. coming up weekend in the champions cup. coming up tonight... we profile the athletes who've funded their own journey to the winter olympics next month. and there's a splash of hollywood stardust at the australian big bash clash between melbourne and sydney. you bring the stardust, lizzie. will smith has been doing the rounds because he was at the tennis the

other day. as we will see. now, there promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the abu dhabi golf championship tomorrow. england's ross fisher has moved into thejoint lead while rory mcilroy‘s return from injury has been a successful one. here's the bbc‘s golf correspondent iain carter. yes, a lot of british interest on the leaderboard, especially when you consider that ross fisher coaxed in a tricky little birdie putt on the last for a round of 65, moving him to 17 under par and alongside the belgian, thomas pieters, at the top of the leaderboard. pieters was the overnight leader but rory mcilroy has moved into contention as well, chipping in on the 17th, suffering his only bogey of the week at the 15th but even so, it was a round of 65 from mcilroy and that has moved him to within a shot of the lead. and then a couple of players at 15—under par who are within two shots of the lead. matt fitzpatrick, who was round in the lowest score of the week, 63, and the defending champion tommy fleetwood is also in the mix at 15—under, two shots behind after an excellent 67. i think what will impact on it tomorrow is that we have had
6:48 pm
perfect conditions really for the first three rounds. the weather forecast is suggesting that there is going to be some wind and that really is going to test the players. as i say, they've been playing in perfect conditions with receptive greens. they have been making the most of the scoring conditions. tomorrow will be a different proposition. wind sweeping across, distance control will be difficult and it will certainly really test them as they come down the stretch. i wonder if that plays into the hands of somebody like mcilroy, with all of his winning experience. defending champion roger federer is safely through to the fourth round of the australian open after beating richard gasquet. federer‘s yet to drop a set at this year's tournament. he's playing incredibly well. meanwhile there was an injury scare for the six—time champion novak djokovic. he needed medical treatment in his match against albert ramos—vinolas. he did win in straight sets
6:49 pm
but he wasn't at his best. this is his first event since wimbledon. his next opponent is chung hyeon, who's become the first south korean man to reach the last 16 in melbourne, and to get there, he produced a real upset as he knocked out the fourth seed alexander zverev. in the women's draw, the world no 1 simona halep survived an epic battle with the unseeded american lauren davis. she saved three match points, before eventually winning 15—13 in the decider. that set alone lasted two hours and 22 minutes. they were on court for nearly four hours. the match between two former winners was rather one—sided, with angelique kerber knocking out maria sharapova. she's now the only grand slam kerber won in straight sets. she's now the only grand slam champion left in the women's draw. will smith was watching tennis, early in the week along with will ferrell. but apparently will smith has turned up at the big bash in australia as well.
6:50 pm
he showed up at the big bash to watch the melbourne stars match with sydney thunder, a flashback to his old fresh prince of bel air days here with australia batsman usman khawaja and it was his thunder team that ran out winners. england batsmanjames vince hit a0 as they completed a seven wicket victory. kyren wilson has booked his place in the final of the masters after a thrilling comeback againstjudd trump at alexandra palace. drogba raced into a 5—2 lead but took on a risky shot in the decider which gave wilson the advantage which he duly took brilliantly with a treble. it will be wilson's first masters final in only his second appearance, and he will play either two—time champion, scotland's john higgins northern ireland's mark allen who meet in the other semifinal this evening. let's round up some of the day's other sports stories now and history was made at ascot as un de sceaux won the clarence house chase for a record third time. in testing conditions, paul townend patiently guided the favourite home while surprise entry brain power had a nasty fall at the second last but was unharmed.

it's the eighth grade one win for the wille mullins—trained10—year—old. england are leading 30—28 against new zealand at half—time in the opening match of the netball quad series at the gogglebox in london, this is the fourth edition of the round robin format between england, south africa, new zealand and australia with all the teams preparing for april's commonwealth games. northern ireland and scotland have guaranteed their place at next year's netball world cup in liverpool. both teams beat wales in their opening matches of the european qualifying tournament in perth in order to secure the two qualification slots available with one game remaining. now we are just three weeks away from the winter olympics and the team involved in one of the most terrifying sports of all, are fine tuning their preparations in the latest world cup event in germany. what makes the story of misha mcneill and mica moore of british bobsleigh even when credible is that they've crowdfunded their way to career after their funding was

withdrawn. mike bushelljoined the team at winterberg in germany for a taste of what they go through. imaginejumping ina imaginejumping in a dustbin and being rolled down a mountain at 90 mph, that is how misha mcneill and mika more describe it, too, and it may be downhill all the way they hope to the winter olympics but the last six months have been an uphill struggle after their funding was withdrawn by this board. so they have been doing it mostly for themselves, from driving their van between world cup venues, helping to maintain their sled, getting their own food and cooking it in their own rented apartments, all thanks to the £30,000 raised in an appeal to the general public. it is they live most athletes on the world circuit wouldn't recognise. it is formula 1 on ice but like, the poor version. we make it glamorous. every single day, living together, eating together, training together, not just at the track but in the gym and running as well. before training and

like, the whole experience of it is such an adrenaline packed thing. only such an adrenaline packed thing. o nly afterwards such an adrenaline packed thing. only afterwards did they tell me the back of the four man sled is the worst for vibrations so spare a thought for all of the brake men and women. i‘ve neverfelt anything quite as violent as that. and never before have i been in such need of a good old hot chilli as the team prepared to move on and do it all again. but it was disappointment for the british women today at the final world cup event before next month‘s winter olympics. a mistake in heat one saw british duo mica mcneill and montell douglas nearly come out of their sled, but thanks to some impressive driving the pair narrowly escaped crashing. mcneill and douglas finished 17th, leaving them 12th in the overall world cup standings. in the men‘s two—man event, bradley hall and sam blanchet finished joint 14th. that‘s all from sportsday. a quick update on the football, manchester city now leading newcastle 2—1. we‘ll leave you with some of the images from the day football came together to pay tribute to one of the games great pioneers — cyrille regis.

applause hello. good evening. there is something milder on the way. it might not feel like that at the moment, though because things are turning decidedly chilly out there. we even had some snow in places today. this was how it looked for one of the weather watchers in shropshire. a beautiful scene with lots of snow on the ground in northern ireland. the snow today, such as it was, was brought by this weather system. most of us saw rain and then a zone of clear weather which will allow it to turn very cold tonight and then another weather system pushing in from the atla ntic weather system pushing in from the atlantic which will eventually introduce a mild air but for the time being, most of us are stuck in the deep freeze, temperatures really plunging, could get as low as —12 or 13 over some of the snowfields of
