camberton. welcome to you and thank you for joining us. starting with time's ta ke joining us. starting with time's take on the questioning ofjeff sessions over the russia investigation and the question is now whether or not president trump will be next. the answer is no. it makes for a good headline but i think there is absolutely no way that the special counsel will jump from jeff sessions street to donald trump. this special investigation has been going on since made. time has been going on since made. time has returned to it over and over again. if the good read and they do interesting analysis of mueller, they are almost reverential. they are they are almost reverential. they a re interested they are almost reverential. they are interested in sessions because he was already controversial. he was controversial when appointed and also he is known to have lied on this particular issue. everybody has
5:46 am
been waiting for him to be questioned. the idea that they suddenlyjump questioned. the idea that they suddenly jump from him questioned. the idea that they suddenlyjump from him to donald trump is ridiculous. there are many other people who will be questioned andi other people who will be questioned and i do not think thatjeff sessions being questioned now takes it any more or less likely that in end donald trump will be questioned oi’ end donald trump will be questioned or indeed that they will find a smoking gun. and what certainly will not change as people taking sides on this issue because they have been split 50—50 across the democrat and republican divide from the start and they will continue to be and only history will tell. the reality is we will need to wait for the film to come out before we can make a judgement. you think a 20 year wait? yes. i do think that. the reality is that those who are against donald trump, they want to know what the effect will be, whether he can be
5:47 am
impeached. they want a smoking gun. donald trump defenders say he has done nothing wrong and that this is a witch—hunt. the white house has said that they will co—operate with the investigation and you expect them to say that. does he have to appear if he is called? yes. if he is called and i suspect he will be. the point is that even if he is impeached on this, it will not change the split it will not suddenly have people saying oh, 0k, the republicans, the trump supporters won't suddenly say that donald trump was wrong from the start. there will be an argument about this that splits america for yea rs about this that splits america for years to come, irrespective of what happens with jeff years to come, irrespective of what happens withjeff sessions's interview. four people have been charged so far, does that change anything? it looks bad to donald trump personally but that reflects
5:48 am
the newspapers that i read. time is not one of those. what they have done over the last six to eight months of this investigation has made her extremely good reading. ultimately it will not change anything. moving on and looking at this story from the financial times and a few other papers. a charity event at the top london hotel, the dorchester, a men only event and they sent undercover reporters to joina number of they sent undercover reporters to join a number of women, hostesses. it has interesting detail. it is not unusualfor it has interesting detail. it is not unusual for these charity events be dominated by men. i have been to plenty of them and it is always striking how few women there are. it is also not unusual for hostesses to be dressed in extraordinarily skimpy clothing. it is striking to the extent to which that is the account —— case. i have always found it strange but that is apparently the
5:49 am
way these things is done. or changes in this case is obviously we are in the middle of the metoo campaign and the middle of the metoo campaign and the world has changed greatly. many people who have given things to this charity auction will not want their name associated with this. clearly there has been poor behaviour at this event. whether there is always poorer adventure —— behaviour at this event because drunk men and skimpily clad women are not a good combination, remains to be seen. i suspect that this happens year in and year out that because of what has been going on more broadly it has been going on more broadly it has made the front page on this occasion. as i say, there are some high—profile names within this
5:50 am
article of people who were not actually there but who donated sings for the charity auction who may decide they do not want to be associated with it going forward. there would be bad news for the charity because it has raised a lot of money. this night in particular raised £2 million. the dorchester said they had no knowledge of any wrongdoing. you raise the that this happens across the ward at charity events. i have been to a few weeks hostesses who addressed in a certain way and they are there as the eye candy. that is what there. had to dress provocatively. there is no getting away from that fact. is it time that this whole outmoded idea is done away with? formula i, charity events, think like that, places where women are on display. we need to draw a line under it, some people say but then others say that that is what advertisers want and what gets the punters in.“
5:51 am
that that is what advertisers want and what gets the punters in. if you are the sort of person who does not wa nt to are the sort of person who does not want to dress like that you do not get that sort of job. want to dress like that you do not get that sort ofjob. the girls who are there, they are not there under any false pretences. it is not as if they turn up expecting to be dressed one way and then find they are dressed in another. i think the people who live there are not offended by it and that is fine. there will be plenty of people who are offended and i think suddenly to draw a line under the whole thing, that will not happen but there will be plenty from it because in this day and age it does not seem appropriate. turning out to bloomberg, a deal that rupert murdoch is trying to do to purchase all ofan murdoch is trying to do to purchase all of an sky to be called the deal was scuppered yesterday because the regulator said it could not go ahead. the idea of sky news and its impartiality is at the heart of this. it is a headline that does not really of reflect reality. this has beenin really of reflect reality. this has been in the news that since about 2011. we have had free culture secretaries who have looked at this.
5:52 am
it has been going on for that long. the reason it has returned to the news is because the competition and market authority have claimed yesterday, they said they thought that rupert murdoch had too much influence on the media in the event he owns all these asset. that they did not mention is that he is planning to sell a major part of these assets to disney. actually, everything but the cma said, and really all it said was echo what another group has already said, it will be academic if the disney deal goes through. that could take some time. in the meantime, there are 500 people of sky news who do not know if they will have a job in a couple of years time. they are left in an awful limbo. it means that they don't know who will own and. i don't think there is any suggestion that sky news will be closed down. the question is who the ultimate owner will be. disney could buy them. question is who the ultimate owner will be. disney could buy themm
5:53 am
does not make money. they are purchasing the fox assets and they could purchase the sky news part of that early. is not, there are other things that could be done to diminish the influence of rude rupert murdoch. it is fascinating when people talk about how much influence he has because they have been media moguls over the years that it cecil king in the 1960s, he was a director of the bank of england and controlled most of the newspapers including the daily mirror. this is not that odd. great british success story, 2a year hours ago nobody had heard of this young man at least not many unless young man at least not many unless you were fond of tennis. and now kyle edmonds is on the back page of most newspapers. he had never won a career title since he turned pro in 2011 and a further as he got in a grand slam was the fourth round. suddenly he is in the semi— final round of the australia and open.
