7:31 pm
this evening: manchester city will have to wait a bit longer for their title. the leaders are out on the course at augusta for the third round of the masters. mcilroy is five shots adrift. and peaty is still unbeaten. the englishman retains his commonwealth title in the pool. it was all about the race tonight, not about the time. hopefully that his four years undefeated. also coming up in the programme... sebastian vettel‘s season keeps getting better. he'll start his 200th formula one race from pole at the bahrain grand prix. good evening, in the last ten minutes the full time whistle has

gone at the etihad stadium and manchester city are going to have to wait for at least another week for the premier league title. they threw away a two—nil lead against manchester united and lost three—two. a win would have done it for city with six games to spare and that would have been a premier league record, but united seemed determinded to spoil that, three goals after the break stunned city. stunned us, too. let's cross live to azi farni at the etihad. azi, a brillaint response from united but city's capitulation was shocking. when you consider what was at stake for city. yes, and the fans leaving the stadium now are very dejected
7:33 pm
and very angry. we were here hours before when they were coming into, three hours before kick—off, and really was a pretty atmosphere inside stadium. i city quietly confident despite the midweek defeat with liverpool. they started so strongly. captain vincent kompany putting them ahead, and it was... heading in from a corner. it was two goals in the space ofjust five minutes per city. they took advantage of a poor clearance from david 0'hehir which, knitted in a beautiful town in by uk and want to put the ball past the united keeper. the fans were confident after that. they were singing, gave the team a standing two goals in two minutes from paul
7:34 pm
pogba. the man who city manager pep guardiola said he was going to sign in january. chris guardiola said he was going to sign injanuary. chris smalling completing the comeback. there were huge calls for a penalty soon after bouts, when sergio aguero was brought down by ashley young in the box. there was a bit of a scuffle which involved almost all of the outfield players, just a few minutes after that. back on the pitch, much to city threw everything at it in the final minutes. they were denied with just a minute to go. sergio aguero denied by davitt hey, raheem sterling hitting the post as well. then it was all over, that great comeback i manchester united inflicting the first home defeat of the season on register city. stopping them crucially, winning the league, something that the united
7:35 pm
fa ns league, something that the united fans will be very happy with. you can hear the fans behind me, very angry, very dejected. still confident that the leaders there is. they have still got six matches left to do it. we are just looking at the maths, top of the table at the moment. if manchester united, if my sister city had won, that would have been it. with manchester united being second, it is all about united dropping points next week and. it becomes a little bit tougher for manchester city, and those doubts will begin to creep in. exactly. they were very much in control, it was there as toulouse, in their hands. their next game will be at wembley against tottenham. it is not com pletely wembley against tottenham. it is not completely in their hands. you can see there are 13 points between manchester city and united. they will need to be 15 points, 16 points
7:36 pm
ahead after that match. it means that they will need to win against totte n ha m , that they will need to win against tottenham, but also hope for a horse for united. it is not fully in their hands. they do have those six games, though. people here are shouting, champions, champions! they know that the leaders there is. it is just a matter of when. 0bviously the leaders there is. it is just a matter of when. obviously very dejected for them notjust for this result but also that result against liverpool midweek in the champions league. they have a huge game coming up league. they have a huge game coming up on tuesday. trying to come back from 3—0 down. in the match day programme here, pep guardiola talks about that match. he says he believes in the team and the team believes in the team and the team believe in themselves. all the focus 110w believe in themselves. all the focus now on tuesday night as trying to come back in the champions league against liverpool. some very deflated manchester city fans behind you. i think we should apologise for
7:37 pm
some bad bad language that you might have heard as well. there was another derby today but there were no goals on merseyside in the lunchtime kick—off. everton had the best of the chances at goodison and they really should have secured their first win against liverpool in over seven years. paul frostick reports. was the most important fixture in liverpool season. there was a time when the merseyside derby was the most important fixture in liverpool season. not this year, with half an eye on tuesday's champions league quarter final against city, jurgen klopp made five changes to his side to face everton. that's 20—year—old striker dominic solanke he given a chance to shine. but he couldn't take it. there was not a single booking as the match liked it intensity. that allowed time to craft some fine chances. a spectacular effort from yannick bolasie drew an equally an equally impressive save. withjordan pickford determined to impress the watching england manager, and liverpool missing
7:38 pm
their top goal—scorer, it looks increasingly difficult to see who would make a breakthrough. there was not a single shot on target in the second half, but a late flurry of chances saw everton goal had heart—stubbornly close to finding a winner. once again they came up short against their city rivals, as liverpool extended their longest unbeaten run in the merseyside derby. we controlled the game in the first half, had a big chance but we needed an outstanding save. the shot from yannick bolasie. second half, we controlled the game until 20 minutes beforehand. everton was ready to do something, to fight, but we didn't give them the opportunity until the last 15 minutes. when they come so late, it is a real
7:39 pm
disappointment. this probably little or 110 disappointment. this probably little or no chance liverpool could come back from that. but the storming finish from the lads. big effort by them. that's one of the bc is why we could have won it today was the limited amount of chances they allowed liverpool to create today, which is particularly in the second half. just three shots at the goal, not on target. in the end, we got the chance to win but didn't. in the premier league today, tottenham held on for a two one win away at struggling stoke. all the goals came in a ten minute spell in the second half. harry kane claimed the winner but it might be awarded to christian eriksen whose free kick seemed to go straight in. the dane also scored spurs first. mame diouf had equalised for stoke with just over half an hour to play. stoke remain in the bottom three. tottenham are level on points with third placed liverpool. that team kept pushing with the right mentality,
7:40 pm
fighting every single ball. to be aggressive, i think the three points... we are happy because i think it put us in a very good position in the table for the rest, to finish in the top four. i can't ask any more for the level of performance. i thought we were outstanding. west brom's run of eight successive defeats came to an end but they could only manage a draw with swansea. in darren moore's first game in charge. jay rodriguez's second half strike was cancelled out by tammy abraham leaving the baggies ten points adrift of safety and without a league win since january. the swans are four points clear of the relegation zone.
7:41 pm
i was pleased with the way the team responded after conceding a goal. when you go a level goal against another player, it is a response but the way we've responded was excellent. the way we got the grip of the game was really good. i was more pleased with that aspect. i have always said, lads, if you don't win again, make sure you don't lose it. they did that today. i'm really pleased. we've only had three days to work since the change but everything, everyone has come together this week. it has been a positive performance and results. there was a fantastic second half at bournemouth. it was goaless at half—time against crystal palace but it finished two—two. the cherries came from behind twice withjosh king securing a point in the 89th minute. that denied palace what would have been a very valuable three points. they are just three points above relegation zone . bournemouth are 11th.
7:42 pm
i thought we played pretty well today. i thought it was a good performance. there were patches we we re performance. there were patches we were happy with. but we have come back from a losing position. we created a host of chances today. we look truly threatening in front of the goal. i think they were a good team. he gave us problems. in the main, iam team. he gave us problems. in the main, i am pretty pleased with the players. i thought the team played well. from the first minutes of the game, the passing was good. we worked the ball well through the midfield. we created opportunities. the two french players were a consta nt the two french players were a constant thorn in the bournemouth side. when we took the beads, and lost it and took it again, i was believing that we would go want to win the game. once again, in the la st win the game. once again, in the last minutes, the goal we conceded means we go away with one point. a couple of other results: brighton drew one all against huddersfield. newcastle are inot the top half of the table after winning away at leicester and burnley came from behind to beat watford two one. that's four wins in a row,
7:43 pm
the first time they've done that in the top division for 50 years. that is the bottom half. you can see west from getting that point but surely doomed now. they are ten points off 60. stoke went down to spurs so are still in the thick of it. southampton play tomorrow. palace just it. southampton play tomorrow. palacejust got their it. southampton play tomorrow. palace just got their noses above water. it's going to go down to the wire, that relegation battle. elsewhere in the championship, aston villa's hopes of securing automatic qualification were dealt a blow when they lost three one away to norwich city. norwich took the lead through this goal of the season contender from wingerjosh murphyjust before half time. the effort from 25 yards was met with a roar at carrow road. dennis sirbeny and james maddison
7:44 pm
also got on the scoresheet for the hosts, while jack grealish got one back for villa, here's the day's other results. barnsley beat sheffield united in the south yorkshire derby. birmingham and burton drew one all. there were wins for brentford and derby while hull city thrashed qpr four—nil. leeds and sunderland drew while middlesbrough, millwall and reading all won. fulham arejust two points behind second placed cardiff now after a one—nil win at sheffield wednesday. rangers have lea pfrogged aberdeen to go second in the scottish premiership after a four—nil victory over dundee at ibrox. aberdeen lost two nil away at hearts. stuart findlay scored for kilmarnock as they beat partick one zero, ross county drew one all with hibs and stjohnstone motherwell ended goaless. leaders celtic are at hamilton tomorrow. let's head down under now
7:45 pm
to the commonwealth games where there were more golds for england, scotland and wales on the third day of competition on the gold coast. england's swimmer adam peaty, a double olympic champion and world record holder, was in final action for the first time. joe lynskey reports. adam peaty successfully defended his title in the 100 metres breaststroke. world record—holder was not happy with his time but he is now unbeaten in the events for four years. adam peaty is england's rock star swimmer. in breaststroke he deals in domination. to get his first gold down under, he said a new games record but it was closer than he hoped. if that's the bar even higher. it's my second time this season. it was all about the race tonight,
7:46 pm
it's not about time. that's four years undefeated. cycling's points race has its own kind of chaos. gold for a welsh track cyclist, the first in three decades. it was really special. i've never sung the welsh national anthem on the podium before. i'm so grateful. england's sophie thornhill also has a double, breaking the world record for time trial gold. the country's medal rush began in para triathlon. it's easy to be inspired byjoe townsend and jade jones. jones has learned to swim injust 18 months. i could not swim so it's something i have really been working on. i only came into para triathlon about 18 months ago. i still have a long way to go. niall wilson's dedication has made him one of gymnastics popular guys. for his family, it never wears thin.
7:47 pm
just incredible. he's gate—crashing our interview! the one downside for the home teams was nick matthews's squash defeats. he won't win a third straight gold. you can be hard on yourself when success comes so easily, but sometimes that is the key to staying at the top. well, there was more bad news for the english squash team in the women's singles. top seed laura massaro also suffered a shock defeat in the quarter finals losing to wales' tesni evans. england's sarah jane perry and james willstrop have made it into the last four though. after success in the para triathlon, the brownlee brothers couldn't inspire the england team to gold in the able bodied relay. four athletes race shorter versions of the course in this event but the mixed team of alistair, jonathan, jess learmonth and vicky holland finished second behind australia to take the silver

medal. also missing out on gold was jack carlin in the track cycling sprint final. he was beaten into silver, in the best of three final, by new zealand's defending chamion sam webster. and there were two more silver medals for england in the weightlifting. zoe smith now has the full collection of commonwealth medals after sealing gold in the 63 kilo category. she won gold in glasgow four years ago. compatriot jack oliver took silver in the men's 77 kilo. wales and scotland's men's hockey teams both lost for the first time in the pool stages to dent their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage. wales were well beaten by malaysia three zero while scotland lost one zero to canada. two go through from each five team pool. but let's reflect a bit more on adam peaty‘s success.
7:49 pm
he's now gone four years without losing a race and in winning earlier i spoke to the former gb and england swimmer mark foster. it isa it is a huge achievement. it means he has stayed at the top for a number of years. he would like to see himself going to another olympic games. he has a lot more years left in him. as a champion, you stand on the block and you can either win or a bottle. going from being the challenger to suddenly being the champion, the mindset is a little bit different. you are a dirty be shot out. i have said many times with adam himself, he is so far ahead of the rest of the world, even when he has a bad day he was to win. today he did have a bad day, he wasn't at his best. but he was still enough to win the race. he really
7:50 pm
beat himself up about having a bad day. that's not what he is about now. we all have best times. when you first start the sports, you have a best time. you want to try to beat your best time. itjust happens that his best time is 1.5 seconds faster than anybody else in the world. he is kidding himself against that all the time. four years unbeaten is ridiculous. we are halfway through an olympic cycle, i guess he is is going to remain unbeaten going into tokyo. yes. i don't think anyone is close to him. that was a complete of day for him. they got close —ish but the bottom line is that it's a very difficult thing. adam is try to get faster. he will go back with his coach and think about what to do differently. my thing has always been not to fix something that isn't broken. that time is not broken, thatis broken. that time is not broken, that is just unbelievable. broken. that time is not broken, that isjust unbelievable. another

superstar of the pool, seven medals in glasgow. he keeps increasing his tally. another gold medal today. that is the one he has won for the last few games. he is always trying to be great, trying to be inspirational. the one thing i love about him is that he's always looking at the other people, like ben proud, chad said then should have been in the final, he would have been in the final, he would have won the race. he is very humble. people love to be around him. he puts his goals around his neck when he is having an interview. he's very playful. he managed to save par on that as he
