in the east of poland, near the border with belarus. and i was really trying to evoke a sense of what i felt when i was there, coming very much as an outsider and a nonbeliever. how i felt when i was in these places of great devotion and spirituality. and for me, there was a great sense of timelessness and otherworldliness and a really mysterious atmosphere, which was very intriguing to me. and that was what i was trying to evoke through the imagery. so as soon as i saw her, i knew i really wanted to photograph her. she is orthodox christian and she comes from a convent in belarus but she was in poland at this pilgrimage site called grabarka. and she just had a very intense way of being, she had very piercing eyes and a very strong presence. so i approached her and she was happy to have her portrait taken. i felt that some of the people i photographed, that they had this very powerful presence but they also, it was almost as if they were looking

into my soul, in a sense. it was kind of a strange exchange. and as i was questioning them, they were kind of questioning me, so there was a slightly ambiguous relationship but also a very respectful one. hello, and welcome to sportday. the headlines: the end of an era. arsene wenger steps down after nearly 22 yea rs wenger steps down after nearly 22 years in charge of arsenal. the question now is, who comes next? former captain patrick vieira is among the names being touted. fulham ta ke among the names being touted. fulham take a step closer to getting back in the premier league, beating play—off hopefuls millwall. and

afternoon that he is not going to be easy to replace. he changed the game. he set a totally new standard, a new ambition. and ambition not just to win, but to win while achieving perfection. —— an ambition. to make art out of football. and he was always brave enough to be true to that extraordinary ambition. and incredibly, he achieved it, with arsenal's invincible season. i'm joined by former arsenal defender martin qian, he was there for all three of his premier league titles. first of all, what is your reaction to the news today? well, it feels like a very sad day and the end of an era. anybody who has worked with arsene will tell you it was an honour to have worked with him, a great man first and foremost, he loved football to be nth degree. he achieved many things. i am indebted

coming in, may now need to find the right man to come in and replace arsene. i don't think it is as difficult as it might have been nine 01’ difficult as it might have been nine or ten years ago when all those su ccesses we re or ten years ago when all those successes were coming. or ten years ago when all those successes were coming. yes, or ten years ago when all those successes were coming. yes, there has been recent success in the fa cup. there is an opportunity now, they may be finishing sixth saw seventh in the table, they can build on that for next season. arsene leaves the club in an incredible position. fulham have moved into the second place in the championship after beating fellow promotional hopefuls millwall. ryan says and put fulham ahead before two fabulous goal sealed the victory. the first from kevin mcdonald, from 25 yards. alexander method which made it 3—0 just before the final whistle, his 13th goal in as many games since joining full online. fulham are two
