appropriate place where victims potentially can... ? appropriate place where victims potentially can. . . ? potentially. appropriate place where victims potentially can...? potentially. it is also an area that is somewhat gray in pennsylvania to be able to do that. so we have her testimony in effect from five of the women. at this point. so i think that goes into the consideration, and we will be assessing it and our unit will be telling us what we are allowed to do and what we are not allowed to do. has your office been approached by any new cosby ephesians to be a child again? i cannot speak about investigative matters. i will leave it at that. this is a vastly different trial than the first one. speak about the importance of having women allowed to testify. also, wrecking the defenses, con artist claims, and testimonies. you all got
8:46 pm
to hear from claims, and testimonies. you all got to hearfrom someone claims, and testimonies. you all got to hear from someone who claims, and testimonies. you all got to hearfrom someone who i think very highly of. doctor barbara. and the legislature in their wisdom has given us the ability to have somebody who is an expert in this area educated jury. and you saw that as our number area educated jury. and you saw that as oui’ number one area educated jury. and you saw that as our number one witness, our first witness in this case. and i think in the process she was able to explain the process she was able to explain the situation, and then when you heard from the different people and you saw what the defense was trying to do despite those sexual assault myths that lie out there, i think there is a recognition and again i hope it is not a tax that is
8:47 pm
continue because it did not work. and it is a situation where it was a different trial. we were able to do that on the front end of the case. and i think that is the benefit of having done this once before. without the legislature making that change, only a few years ago to allow someone like doctor barbara, you would've been able to call her to the stand. how critical was she in your ability to secure a conviction today? i think that will bea conviction today? i think that will be a better question for the jurors on how impactful she was. but to us it was very important and it is something that we kept going back to and looking at. and kirsten did the direct examination from her, but we went back to that reported that she did a lot. because it was
8:48 pm
significant in showing what the real science is behind this and how this goes. and the doctor who testified in the last trial about this machine is another great expert and is arena. and i think it is important that these messages get out. that that these messages get out. that thatis that these messages get out. that that is what this is. and maybe at some point we will need to put on an expert to educate a jury because we will all recognize that those sexual of fault —— sexual assault myths are not real and that we should be looking at everything that happens to somebody who has been sexually assaulted. any chance that jackson could face perjury charges? cannot talk about investigations. can you talk about investigations. can you talk little bit about the difference of having a localjury and a montgomery countyjury is like the things that had an impact? stu think that had an impact? mystery to me
8:49 pm
seem very different. it took a lot of notes, thisjury. everybody seem very different. it took a lot of notes, this jury. everybody says they really were paying attention. you think i had an impact? obviously it helped. i appreciate being on the home court. i do. we have a great community here. we have a community that supports law enforcement. we have a community of people that sacrificed so much, to think going into this you are going to be removed from your family as the defense kept saying for a month. it isa defense kept saying for a month. it is a huge sacrifice to make. but their willingness to do that, and as you said to pay the attention that
8:50 pm
they did to every step of the way, we're just grateful. and they did to every step of the way, we'rejust grateful. and i they did to every step of the way, we're just grateful. and i am grateful that we live in this community. i am grateful that we get to choose jurors like that, who do the right thing. that is what happens here. and it happens over and over again. it was great being on our home call for a stop what is your message to prosecutors and other jurisdictions your message to prosecutors and otherjurisdictions whether they be in new york city, los angeles, chicago, chester county, who may view these cases as historically... after today, what is your message to any prosecutor who may be on the fence about pushing forward in the case of this nature was? case of this nature i fence about pushing forward in the case of this nature i am not here to send messages to my colleagues. we
8:51 pm
are ina send messages to my colleagues. we are in a great community of prosecutors, particularly in pennsylvania. and i get to work with them through the pennsylvania district attorney's association and all i can tell you about that is the incredible outpouring of support that i have gotten every step of the way along this journey, they have been great. and i look at our collea g u es been great. and i look at our colleagues in the attorney general‘s office. and how they have walked this walk with us. michele henry for example, who tried the king case with me. each step of the way, these folks are here to support. so i don't think it is any need or time to send a message to all of them, we are all walking these cases together in each person has to deal with it in their own jurisdictions. so that was the district attorney for

montgomery county. kevin steele, talking about the conviction of the american comedian and is done at entertainer bill cosby who has been found guilty today of drugging and sexually assaulting a former friend andrea filip kostic, who we can see they're standing on the platform. kevin steele said at that news conference that cosby had used his celebrity, wealth and power over decades to abuse women. our north american correspondent is in pennsylvania. outside the court for a snuffle stopped quite an extraordinary moment. such a famous figure in america and around the world now convicted by this jury. delac absolutely. it is hard to really put into words how big a star bill cosby was in the united states. he was the most—watched man in america. really such a role model for minorities who are trying to break into hollywood because he was the first black man on primetime
8:53 pm
television. and he really embodied this wholesome, lovable image of the character he played, doctor cliff huxtable on the cosby show, it was very ha rd huxtable on the cosby show, it was very hard for americans to reconcile the image of an upstanding moral character with the allegations they we re character with the allegations they were hearing. and what you have heard time and time again from the women outside of this court who cried, other women accusers were here every day of the trial, they came out crying after that verdict because they said now they can hold their heads up high. now this shows that women are worthy of being believed. and certainly when you speak to the women, they do acknowledge that the metoo movement must have played a role in this rate. last summer, the trial ended ina rate. last summer, the trial ended in a deadlocked jury who deliberated for 50 hours and cannot come to a decision. this time injust for 50 hours and cannot come to a decision. this time in just over a day of deliberations, they found him guilty. and this trial was
8:54 pm
com pletely guilty. and this trial was completely different because of the metoo movement. five additional women were metoo movement. five additional women were allowed to speak. experts we re women were allowed to speak. experts were there to tell the jury how some of the inconsistencies in andrea constand, his main accuser‘s story, we re very constand, his main accuser‘s story, were very typical of what victims go through. so it was not so out of the ordinary in this case. we have heard from the prosecutor and she believes the testimony of those five additional women showing a pattern by bill cosby of this predatory behavior, drugging and violating women as andrea constand had accused him of, she said that that was absolutely vital to this verdict, to have those five women speak. and the district attorney of horse painter be to the victim, but also to those other women that spoke out. many people do feel that that is what made the difference this time around. during this trial. but there
8:55 pm
we re around. during this trial. but there were five, six of dozens of women who have come forward with such allegations. yes. over 50 women have come forward. and i have to say this was a very aggressive at times nasty trial. these women who spoke out came under fierce attack by bill cos by‘s came under fierce attack by bill cosby‘s lawyers as they tried to defend him. one woman was accused of being a has—been model whojust wa nted being a has—been model whojust wanted her time in the spotlight. another was accused of being too promiscuous. so they, at great personal cost, it came to support andrea constand and the prosecutors in because as we have heard from them, that i say that this was their fight as much as it was her fight. they wanted to see when they're asked on stand, a number of them said they wanted to see justice. that is why they had chosen to come here and speak. bill cosby‘s lawyers really fought aggressively to try to
8:56 pm
hold onto his image again as america's favorite dad, to say that he always had consensual relationships with the women, that andrea constand was a con artist who was just after his money. but the jury was just after his money. but the juryjust did not side with that view. they did side with the women. i think what is a very important point to underscore here is the fact that it point to underscore here is the fact thatitis point to underscore here is the fact that it is the women who are believed up against such a powerful figure in american culture. light from outside the courtroom where bill cosby has been convicted of drugging and abusing a woman today. now it is time for a look at the weather. let's join sarah now it is time for a look at the weather. let'sjoin sarah keith lucas for the forecast. thank you. it has been a day of sunny spells and scattered showers. most of the showers are easing away but it is an u nsettled showers are easing away but it is an unsettled outlook as we look towards the end of april and the start of may, too. this was the scene of the sunset on a very tranquil sunset in wakefield and west yorkshire. we
