i'm so pleased it's not going to be arthur, so pleased that's a middle name. louis arthur charles. four days old and little louis is already creating his own entente cordiale. nicholas witchell, bbc news at kensington palace. the headlines on bbc news: the leaders of north and south korea have declared their commitment to work towards the complete denuclearisation of the korean peninsula. the british economy grew at its slowest pace for more than five years in the first three months of the year. a man has beenjailed for nine years for causing the deaths by dangerous driving of two young brothers in a hit—and—run collision. now on bbc news it's time for the film review with ben brown and mark kermode. hello there and welcome to film

review here on bbc news and taking us review here on bbc news and taking us through this week's cinema releases, who also but mark? what do we have this week? we have beast and avengers: infinity war, the latest in the mcu series. and the wound the coming of age movie with a different. i love the sound of beast it dunn i love a psychological thriller.l young woman lives completely under the some of her domineering mother and played with a hand of anxiety as if she is frightened of her daughter as well as dominating her. anyway, the heroine meets this young man who is this woodsman. eight vagabond

character and immediately the family ta ke character and immediately the family take against them and the rest of the community are very suspicious of him and she falls in love with him and he starts than her a rebellious spirit that has the two kept under wraps, here is a clip: it is the club dress code. they are black jeans! the club dress code. they are black jeans! sorry. maybe the burger, then. yes. i would like to make a toast... to my family for everything you have

done for me. i forgive you. get out! what i really like about this film is firstly you can see from the palpable tension and secondly what happens is there has been a string of murders on the island in the finger of suspicion starts pointing towards the man. and obviously she boasts that he is innocent but is it because she is in love with him and he is manipulative and leading her a stray or is it because she has dark secrets in her own past. the best way of describing this is it is a kind of twisted fairy tale. eight sounds like beast from 1975 which was banned for a's just in this country. there is a film which is something about bright sunlit

coastal setting but dark murderous underbelly and it has those things mixed together in the best thing is you are kept guessing all the way through as do the character's motives. which one is the monster? the title beast is not specifically apply to any of them. a really manages the knife edge‘s balance and it isa manages the knife edge‘s balance and it is a difficult trick to pull off, you can usually do it in the first act but not the second but the two central performances are really believable. the chemistry... people talk about chemistry on screen and there is real electricity in this pairing. also it is really well—written. it a debut feature and he does a good job of keeping the audience on the edge of their seat. has the timeless fairy tale mythical quality and it may be a princess in a town who is rescued by dave prince 01’ a town who is rescued by dave prince or is he the beast leading her into the woods. all those questions were really well

in the interiors are up shot in surrey in the knits the two worlds together and it is very good at a really exciting film. well with seeing. and now avengers: infinity war, i seeing. and now avengers: infinity war, lam seeing. and now avengers: infinity war, i am told there are no fewer than 22 superheroes in this movie. it's not like a few too many. it is vast. we will not do any spoilers, the set up is that there is a mission to gather the infinity stones together that will allow thonas thanos to wipe out the universe. it is not a short film, it isa universe. it is not a short film, it is a long film in the amount of money it is doubtless to take up the box office. i think if you are a fan

of this particular cinematic universe and invested in these characters and follow them through the series of movies so far, you wrote really like this and there will be things that surprise you and things that make you gasp and cheer and the screening i was in all those reactions were evident. however if you are not particularly invested, andi you are not particularly invested, and i am not, they do not have great personal resonance for me, you may end up thinking this is very long, very episodic but it does balance light and dark, there is tragedy and comedy but it felt like channel hopping. there was one section in another section and they are not quite intertwined. i think the film makers did a good job of developing the desperate elements. the problem for me is consequence. i struggled to invest in the most dramatically interest moments. i know other people who watch the movie did not have that same feeling. i think it comes down to whether or not you are afan. i comes down to whether or not you are a fan. i am guessing you're probably not a huge devote see of this

series. no copy but i do like superhero movies. that is fine, and i think they do not make a lot of concessions, if you cannot make this movie for the fans then what movie can you? i thought it was impressive although i remained emotionally unengaged but i know enough people who are invested in those characters who are invested in those characters who are invested in those characters who are absolutely loving it and thought it took real risks. let's move thought it took real risks. let's m ove o nto thought it took real risks. let's move onto the wound. it is a south african drama, a man is sent to take pa rt african drama, a man is sent to take part in her wrist jewel, african drama, a man is sent to take part in her wristjewel, you have to live in a hut and it is initiation ritual. his father is sending him because he built his son is soft and also because he is starting to have anxieties about his sexuality. here isa anxieties about his sexuality. here is a clip: so the rest of the film takes place ina so the rest of the film takes place in a remote encampment and it becomes a film which is about

manhood and initiation and coming of age and what it means to be a man in sexuality and love and what is demanded of you by your elders and by society. and honesty in frame as. some people made the comparison too broke back mountain which i think i understand but i think it is slightly off the money. what is interesting is it invokes a world which i was unfamiliar but it tells a story which feels universal. that isa a story which feels universal. that is a really clever thing to do. a story which is very specific about its setting and its circumstances and yet allows every viewer i think to recognise universal truths in what is happening. it is a coming—of—age movie which is one of the most popular of cinematicjohn rice but it is taking real risks in doing things that are quite daring and doing things very well and with honesty and i found and doing things very well and with honesty and ifound it and doing things very well and with honesty and i found it very moving. it balances realism of one hand with a timeless quality on the other in almost a magical quality on the

other. eight re—parking of a early film, which has been restored and it is worth seeing not the least because it is a re—orr extraordinary director. it is a masterpiece but it is not in circulation any more. the thing it does is, it is travellers, they wind up in an old dark house they wind up in an old dark house they should not be in and then the floorboards creak and what it does is it establishes and satirizes a number of horror film conventions. should check it out. best ebd? hostile s. it was not seen by enough people in cinemas, it is a story about an army captain who has to ta ke about an army captain who has to take his arch enemy back to his tribal homeland. brilliant performance but the reason why i

love it is it has a terrific soundtrack. agues is an instrument of which when they made only one in the world it produces the most unearthly sound and it is the most extraordinary thing. there are great things but you can watch it with your ears. it did not get seen enoughin your ears. it did not get seen enough in cinemas but i think it is a really impressive piece of work. watch it with your ears, i like that. thank you. a quick reminder before we go that you will find more film news and reviews from across the bbc online and you can find all oui’ the bbc online and you can find all our previous programmes on bbci player. that is it for this week and goodbye from both of us. good evening and as we head through the final few days of april, the weather is looking a bit
