‘ future was never a point when herfuture was never a point when herfuture was going to be the scrap yard. the travel show your essential guide to wherever you are going. if you are coming to britain you had better get used to the very british art of killing. queueing, we are number one, two, gin and tonic and three, wimbledon. think the british have kind of an obsession with queueing.” think the british have kind of an obsession with queueing. i haven't

come to the tennis, i've come for the killing. we really good at killing. they are proud of the way the queue. liverpool something we are born i think. it is quite civilised. the idea of the british being good at queueing comes from this idea that the brits are all about fair play and equal chances, it that sense of your term, not rushing in, anything that looks like you are trying to get an unfair advantage over others is an absolute no no. queuejumpers, that's something that trials a brit, it's just not what we do. it's common respect, courtesy. we want to be good at queueing. it doesn't mean that we actually are. the fact that
1:47 pm
we get so stressed when queueing on a regular basis, tensions over who gets on the bus first. i think with all maths there is an element of truth, for example queueing for russians in world war ii killing was pa rt of russians in world war ii killing was part of the intense propaganda effort, all the posters, all the radio broadcasts, all the newsreels, it was part of that moment of british courage, resolve and all those kinds of things. they make a good story and it makes queueing something of a myth. it has to be historic, way back when war was polite! very british, not as important as the queen. we are quite nostalgic for the 19405 and the

19505, there are so many images of ve day, of triumph, 5ucce55, 19505, there are so many images of ve day, of triumph, success, of britain being a major player. and the5e britain being a major player. and these are very powerful, seductive image5 these are very powerful, seductive images of what britain was. in that sense, looking back at the 19405 and 19505, and things that look like certainties and the ability to queue politely, at a time when things look deeply uncertain both nationally and internationally. now, it was just over 50 years ago that queen elizabeth ii launched the ocean liner that proudly bore her name. the legendary qe2. and throughout the 1970s and ‘80s, the ship was perhaps the classiest and most elegant way to cross the atlantic. but times and taste change and in 2007, the qe2 was sold to a company in dubai,
1:49 pm
where she's been ever since. but although her sailing days are over, she's finally getting ready to welcome people back on board — this time as a floating hotel and museum. so we went to take a look around. what makes the qe2 special is her class, her style, her sense of history, her heritage, and when you walk onboard it's like really walking back into a bygone era of class and sophistication. in the evenings, we used to have ballroom dancing in the queen's room. we used to employ gentleman hosts because they were of great number of single ladies out there that were travelling with us. so as part of the crew staff, i had to learn how to dance. now, quite terrifying when you're a south african with two left feet, it was a little interesting. so thank goodness we had this easy—to—follow step guide. one, two, three.
1:50 pm
thank you very much. despite her illustrious past, like concorde, the qe2 was eventually taken out of service. she had become uneconomic to operate and upgrade and when she arrived in dubai in the middle of the global financial crisis, many feared that her next stop would be the breakers yard. contrary to popular belief, there was never a point where the future of the qe2 was going to be to the scrapyards. that is a fate that happens to decommission ships but it has never been dubai's plan to do so. and today, ken is back working on the ship. this time, not as a member of the crew but as the man charged with promoting the ship as a new floating hotel and museum. good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. welcome on board the qe2. now, when they designed her hull, there were two things that she had
1:51 pm
to be able to do — she had to be able to go through the panama canal, which means that she had to be narrow enough to go through the canal, and she had to go through the suez canal. to take her out of the water, while perhaps feasible, would really take the charm and the beauty of her heritage and history out. so she is a floating hotel. when the winds blow and the waves are coming in, we do list, and that gives you the feel of truly being on an ocean liner. for almost 40 years, the qe2 carried film stars, millionaires and even soldiers heading to the falklands war when the ship was commandeered by the british government in 1982. but her new owners say their aim is to restore her to her original glory with a few modern touches along the way. the queen elizabeth suite is the suite that she stayed in. we took great care to try to re—craft that room,
1:52 pm
keeping as much as possible of the existing furniture, refurbishing the looks that's there, that if we were to have the privilege of the queen coming back to visit, it would be almost as if she'd just stepped back in time from the last time she stepped out of that room. there's no denying that this new hotel is definitely different for dubai, a place that's so far been obsessed with everything shiny and new. it will no doubt be popular with nostalgic brits but it's also essential that the local market take the ship to their hearts too. however, no matter how much interest there is in the qe2, it looks like her days at sea are well and truly over. i walked of this ship 17 years ago with a tear in my eyes, saying goodbye to her in the bahamas and i never dreamt i would be back on board again.

with a tear in my eyes, saying goodbye to her in the bahamas and i never dreamt i would be back on board again. to realise that we are back on qe2, having the most amazing time, once again, our beautiful lady's not dead and people are on board having a lot of fun and it's been a fantastic evening tonight. so that's it for this week on the travel show. next week, we explore manila, the capital of the philippines. it is cheap, relatively quick given the traffic and the best

beaten the record, it is the hottest early may bank holiday we have on record. this was what we had in 1999, 20 3.6 was the previous tour test. today we are going to absolutely smash that record. we're talking about highs of 28 degrees. no question it will be really hot. this is how the temperatures have been rising today, shooting up across much of the country, large parts of england and wales enjoying those temperatures, it's 82 in fahrenheit, and a balmy evening, but the weather is expected to grow cooler in western areas so by early morning we should see some rain pushing into northern ireland. the weather front moves up the atlantic. this is a cool front behind it, we have fresh air off the atlantic so
1:57 pm
things will go downhill a bit of these western areas. this is the morning on tuesday, by a roundabout lunchtime you can see it reaching some western parts of the uk, to the south, a view showers but it is still going to be a hot one, 27 expected in london, around 26 in norwich, and on those weather fronts keep moving through as we go through tuesday into wednesday, these blue areas mean cooler air is arriving so on wednesday yet another weather front, this is the second one moving into northern ireland, rain expected here, and yet more fresh air gets into northern ireland, you can see how cool it is, in 11 degrees, 20 in the south—east, towards the middle of the week you get the suggestion that things are turning a bit more u nsettled that things are turning a bit more unsettled as we go through the rest of the week. so atlantic winds eventually win and we are in that fresher as yannick l. still a lot of

sunshine around, the weather will not be bad but closer to what we should normally have this time of year, in the south—east the average is 18. so certainly cooling off in the week. bye bye. this is bbc news. i'm lukwesa burak. the headlines: extra police on patrol in london — after four shootings in just 24 hours leave one teenager dead and three others injured. borisjohnson goes to washington in an attempt to persuade donald trump to keep the iran nuclear deal working with our european friends, we think we can be tougher on iran, but not throw away the heart of deal about stopping them getting nuclear weapons. vladimir putin is sworn in for a fourth term as president — promising to improve the lives of the russian people. translation: we are open to
