good to see you. do these figures surprise you, they do seem very steep. i think it is a worrying trend. we've seen year—on—year increase over the last three years so on average increase over the last three years so on average 183 pupils are fed each and every school day into specialist mental health services. at her own service we've seen a rise in the number of mental health related contexts so over the last four years it has been a 26% increase and now it is the top reason why children are referred to us reason why children are referred to us today so very concerning for the figures four—year—old childminder mirror those figures you have now obtained. what is causing this? i think there are many explanatory

factors, it could be that teachers themselves are more alert to early signs and symptoms of mental health problems or the students themselves be more comfortable speaking about their anxieties and worries. i think we also need to be alert to the number of pressures that young people face today, both online and off—line. at childline we are hearing increasingly about children who are having mental distress over issues such as cyber bullying and body image, as well as the traditional pressures around exams and so on. the government says its new measures in this green paper will provide the services to help young people who are having mental illness issues. you think that the government is doing enough in this department? we welcome the publication of the green paper but echoing the concerns of the education and health select committee ‘s we feel the scope is limited and it is not ambitious enough. what we have seen is an
