9:00 am
there's an indescribable beauty in union in two beings forming one new being entering each other‘s world surrendering each other‘s selves accepting the invitation to be everything to someone else there is an unparalleled bravery in union in telling the one you love the only way that we can truly win is if i think of you in everything i do and honour every decision you faithfully include me in love gives union true meaning it illuminates the path it wants us to compromise, communicate and laugh it wants us to elevate appreciate without pride love is oblivious to the outside even with an audience of millions when that love bears immortal significance all of this is met with cordial indifference by the two people at the heart of it two individuals when they started it becoming two halves of one partnership such is the beauty of union suchis the beauty of union.
9:01 am
good morning. good morning and welcome to royal windsor — the big day has finally arrived, and here on the bbc you won't miss a moment. you certainly won't, but first things first, thank you to george the poet for that wonderful rendition of the beauty of union, which he wrote especially for today. and george will be back a little later to tell us about his friendship with prince harry, possibly in rhyming couplets, who knows? yes, a beautiful love poem, and of course amid all the grandeur and the crowds and the excitement, that's why we are here today, to celebrate the love between his royal highness prince henry of wales —
9:02 am
otherwise known as prince harry — and ms meghan markle, who at midday, six months after they announced their engagement, will marry in the beautiful and intimate setting of st george's chapel here at windsor castle — a place the royal family call home. yes indeed, when her majesty says, "home james", this is where she means. british kings and queens have been living here for almost a thousand years, making it the world's oldest inhabited castle. as we said, we pretty much think we've got everything covered here at the bbc — the ceremony, the carriage procession, the wedding guests, the fashion, and more, but the focus of our — and everyone‘s — attention will of course be on the bride and groom, prince harry who's sixth in line to the throne and meghan markle, american actor and humanitarian campaigner. so where are the couple of the moment now? prince harry is staying
9:03 am
at coworth park and yesterday, he and his brother prince william did a walkabout in windsor much to the surprise and delight of the crowds on the long walk. not know they were going to get that! delighted! and meghan is staying at the cliveden house hotel — she arrived there yesterday evening with her mother doria ragland. and they both cut quite the dash, if that was the dress for just and they both cut quite the dash, if that was the dress forjust going into the hotel. . .! that was the dress forjust going into the hotel...! the bride and the mother of the bride looking it has to be said incredibly relaxed. meghan is close to her mother and in a break from tradition
9:04 am
meghan is close to her mother and in a breakfrom tradition doria is going to accompany her daughter today on the way to the chapel. it was announced yesterday that the groom's father, the prince of wales, if is then going to walk the bride down the aisle. dermot: as you might be able to see, there are already huge crowds gathering here in windsor, the doors to the castle grounds were opened a few moments ago, and throughout the uk and the world it's estimated that 1.9 billion people will be tuning in and watching. and i really wish you hadn't said that! and we want you to take part in our global conversation. how are you celebrating? have you made any royal wedding themed food? are you getting married today? are you annoyed about that?! whatever it is, we want to hear from you! do you know another harry and meghan getting married today, with or without an h — that's the meghan, not the harry. whatever it is, we want to hear from you, so do share your comments, photos and videos with us
9:05 am
at bbc one using the hashtag royalwedding — tag bbc one in your pictures on instagram and twitter — and throughout the day we'll be taking a look at how your celebrations are going. now the doors to st george's chapel, the beautiful setting for the wedding, won't be opened until 10, that's when we'll all get our first glimpse of how it looks, and that's also when the 600—odd six guests are allowed in to find their seats. but poised, ready and waiting for that moment, with a wonderful view of the castle, is our colleague huw edwards. and it is a wonderful view — one of the most iconic in the world — the round tower of windsor castle — dominating the landscape for miles around — it's a view familiar to many millions across the world — and make no mistake, today's service is a truly global event. we have some of the best seats in the house — from our great position on the roof of the guard room, looking over what's known as the lower ward of windsor castle.
9:06 am
and this is where those people specially chosen to be inside the grounds, just starting to make their way in. it's going to be a memorable day for all of them. they're just starting to settle down. i don't think they will need a blanket, it is very warm already! the couple really wanted members of the public to feel part of the celebrations — so more than 2,500 people have been invited inside the grounds today. some 1,200 of those have been nominated have been nominated by lord lieutenants — across the country — for work in their own communities. they'll get the chance to see the bride and groom — and their chapel guests and we'll be talking to some of them later. and on the far side of the lower ward is st george's chapel, where the doors will open at 10 o'clock. will open at half past nine.
9:07 am
and that's when we'll see for the first time what florist philippa craddock and her team have been doing inside. so what does the day look like? here are some of the key timings for you. the bride will start herjourney to windsor castle, leaving cliveden house at ten past eleven. most of the wedding guests will be seated by 11.15. members of the royal family will start arriving at the galilee porch of the chapel at 11.20 prince harry and his best man the duke of cambridge will arrive at the west door of the chapel at 11.40. the moment everyone‘s waiting for — the bride will arrive with her bridesmaids and pageboys just before midday and then the service will begin. nothing official released on the guest list but i can tell you there
9:08 am
are some pretty big names on it. close friends from the worlds of entertainment, sport and music and charities are. a very broad mix of people. and covering all the comings and goings for us from their prime viewing positions within the castle grounds are anita rani and 0re 0duba. we feel absolutely honoured to be on the ground here alongside st george's chapel on what is going to be an extraordinary day. we are with 2500 of the luckiest people in britain. iam 2500 of the luckiest people in britain. i am going to be moving to my position which is called middle ward to talk to some of the vip guests. and i will be talking to some of the specially invited guests, asking them what it means to be here and what is very exciting is that they will have the first site of the newly married couple when they come out of the chapel. it is going to be a moment. it is but not as big as seeing the dress or the kiss! so many questions and they
9:09 am
will be answered very soon! thank you, guys. as of now the wedding dress is the biggest mystery in the fashion world. no—one has got a clue? all will be revealed at 12 o'clock, by which time we will also know how an is beatrice is going to top that hat that she wore... you will remember it from william and will few-ems? if ‘wfim: , ;.: ., will few-ems? if ‘wfim: , ;.: ., ifi’j— . to' ' g hat! but more important wear such a hat! but more important than that is the dress chosen if there is someone who is across all of this, it is pretty much your life's work right now... it is my life's work right now... it is my life's obsession, i need to know! you are a fashion insider i think it would be fair to say. i am trying to be but they are being very tight on this one! right asl as i said are the front runners? as i said briefly to you, page six in the new
9:10 am
york post reported as fact that it was still kane, which is quite surprising, she has not really done bridal before. but there has been so much a speculation and very little solid fact so i think a surprise is probably on the way in some form. we we re probably on the way in some form. we were talking yesterday about the possibilities but her turning up at clivedon last night wearing roland... stunning. it was beautiful, i don't know if that is a clue that that is what it is or if it means it is categorically...” think it is a clue that it's not just yes, surely! 0ne think it is a clue that it's not just yes, surely! one of my favourite designers! christopher bailey is still very much... burberry. .. bailey is still very much... burberry... yes, as the grand swansong before leaving the label at the end of the year. but they have kept it very tight, is tell a big surprise. i am into this now! and we will know for sure what dress meghan
9:11 am
is wearing when we seek it for the first time. but for now the bride and her mother are in clivedon house and her mother are in clivedon house and our reporter is their. has she spotted the merest hint which could give us the vital clue as regards the dress? i think no—one will be the dress? i think no—one will be the answer! not yet but i promise you i am keeping my eyes peeled and i will get back to you as soon as i see anything! i feel so lucky to be here, because this is where meghan and hammam will be departing from in just under two hours' time. it is a beautiful day and it is a beautiful place to spend the last night before your wedding. we place to spend the last night before yourwedding. we are place to spend the last night before your wedding. we are surrounded by thousands of acres of national trust trounce, the hotel itself sits just above the river thames, it is a historic stately home which sits at the end of this sweeping driveway. it is fitting because it was once home to three campuses, an earl and
9:12 am
two dukes and it was later bought by a very wealthy american. it has hosted many famous people but for today it is the place where a mother and a daughter have just spent their final night together before meghan markle's life changes for ever. and speaking of dresses, if that one is a cracker! royal weddings normally get a lot of attention from around the world, and in this case with one half of the couple being an american actor, things have gone stratospherically i think this must be the biggest royal broadcasting event that windsor has ever seen. we are journalists and we are so excited to be able to be here, because it is such a historic event, not only for the uk but also for the world. everywhere i look around i see people outside trying to get the best possible spot, hotel rooms that
9:13 am
they've rented, every knock and cranny in this town has been rented by ours at all the media! we are covering the royal wedding for cbs this morning. we are in the hotel and we have got our sink, storage area, oui’ and we have got our sink, storage area, our home—made set up is instilled on top of the bathtub. and the toilet is just the storage because we can't close the door all the way! us french people we are so enthusiast can about this wedding, we are doing a special edition all day from 6am to midnight so it proves that we have really into it even though we are french!m proves that we have really into it even though we are french! it is exciting especially for us in los angeles that we have a hometown girl who is going to marry into the royal family, itjust who is going to marry into the royal family, it just blows who is going to marry into the royal family, itjust blows the mind. two we have a royal wedding in canada? no. hockey players get married! but we still follow what's happening, it still matters, they still know all the news and for sure they will be watching on saturday. australians will always be interested in the
9:14 am
royal family, the queen is the head of state for us as well. it is on prime time on a saturday night. so it's the perfect time for everyone to have a barbecue during the day and then settle in for a great night watching the royal wedding from windsor. you can hear any language you can imagine from all over the world, you hear them speaking arabic, portuguese, spanish, whatever, and you think, this really turned into a big tv studio, windsor! it is super full! the media is everywhere, i heard that one of the american broadcasters has got 15 anchors here to cover it. and we are 110w anchors here to cover it. and we are now looking at the hotel on which every balcony has been overtaken by cameras. we can see cranes and cameras. we can see cranes and cameras and camera crews, it is all happening, the world is watching! we reckon about 1.9 billion, they're saying?! i'm saying 2 billion!
9:15 am
remarkable! they are doing very good business. they are doing very good business. the world's press are here in force, but with meghan been brought up in los angeles, over there it is bonkers. in america they will be shrieking and high—fiving. hopefully richard bacon will be able to control himself for the duration of this report. yes, welcome to santa monica. welcome to los angeles. union jacques kallis. this is meghan‘s home town. the wedding is a massive event, it is 1:15am. this city does not stay up late and yet everywhere, tonight, from downtown los angeles,
9:16 am
there are parties happening. this is one of the main ones. as well as the enthusiast, debbiejoins me. she was the principal, the head of meghan‘s primary school. she went there for nine years. not all people stand out. you cannot remember everyone that goes through your school, but meghan made a real impact. absolutely. meghan was not only charming, but poised, and academically advanced, giving of herself, willing to take her free periods and help the teachers in the preschool with younger children, a lwa ys preschool with younger children, always involved in community projects, whether it was in school 01’ projects, whether it was in school or outside of school. a very remarkable young woman. i am a great believer, as many people are, that the school did you go to when your yak —— and that young, and she was there from 3—12, the atmosphere and there from 3—12, the atmosphere and the teachers you encounter, the other big impact on what you become.
9:17 am
as you watch get married today, will you feel pride, emotional?” as you watch get married today, will you feel pride, emotional? i am proud of all of the teachers that had a part in meghan‘s rose, the hollywood schoolhouse, and especially her social studies teacher, but i feel heartfelt with parade at meghan finding her match, and the wonderful things that she and the wonderful things that she and prince harry will theirjoint humanitarian projects. good to see you. stay with us for the big event, and thank you. thanks so much. i am good ——i and thank you. thanks so much. i am good —— i am grateful that at least two people there are not well refreshed. the teacher was a bit refreshed. the teacher was a bit refreshed. the teacher was a bit refreshed. the crowds have been gathering in windsor since last night but actually for the last five days. it is really busy, and in 25,000 people expected in windsor today. somewhere in strong, is alex jones, on the long walk. iam jones, on the long walk. i am delighted to be here amongst
9:18 am
thousands of supporters and well—wishers. the atmosphere is fantastic and the excitement is tangible. we are hoping to see a glimpse of meghan passing in the car, and of course, the newlyweds in the carriage this afternoon as they come past and hopefully give us away. people have gone to extraordinary lengths to get the best view. chantelle is camped out with her two young daughters and another young baby on board. that is commitment. it is, but we like the royal family. you commitment. it is, but we like the royalfamily. you have commitment. it is, but we like the royal family. you have a connection to them? my husband is in the household cavalry. he is quoted prince william at his wedding. we have the fabulous looking stephanie, all the way from washington. why did you make the journey? all the way from washington. why did you make thejourney? i made the journey because harry is getting married to an american, and a black american. i am very excited. it has
9:19 am
given you lots of hope. it could be anybody. it could've been me. it is anybody. it could've been me. it is afairy anybody. it could've been me. it is a fairy tale. you have got a link to harry as well, haven't you? it is an indirect link. through invictus, i work for the united states army, and i had the opportunity to work on the iain vigurs game when he brought the game to america in 2016. i had an opportunity to meet him and spend some around them. he is a nice guy? he is amazing. have a great day. it is like the wedding reception before at the reception. we have food, drink and a great atmosphere. we are joining us now are two very athletic wedding we are guests who are having a great time. joining us now are two very athletic wedding guests who are having a great time. both involved with projects supported by the couple. jj chalmers served in afghanistan and is an invictus games medallist, and with jj is the director of the rugby
9:20 am
football league, of which prince harry is patron, and one of the all—time greats of the game, kevin sinfield. welcome gentlemen, how does it feel to be part of this very special day? pretty surreal. pretty ridiculous, ifiam pretty surreal. pretty ridiculous, if i am being honest, but the pleasure and privilege as well. exactly the same. surprise to get an invite, but it is great to be here. the weather is fantastic. the crowd and support is brilliant. you spend and support is brilliant. you spend a lot of time with him. how is the camera? he is brilliant on the camera? he is brilliant on the camera and he comes across as a lovely bloke and he is even nicer in real life. that is remarkable when you consider the environment he comes from, the fanfare that surrounds him, to have a normal, functioning human being. a part of thatis functioning human being. a part of that is from his service in the military. icm is another captain from the army. i did a show with him in 2015. we were doing a fly—past, and there were two injured veterans, and there were two injured veterans, and they were going to go up in the
9:21 am
three main planes. 0n the morning, one of the planes was not in equity. he gave up his seat, and he should have given up his seat, but the fact he did, it said a lot. we have spent time with them? that is entirely him. i have never seen him do anything for himself. this is the first time when the occasion has been about him but he has given it to all the people. it is really about meghan. that is the thing. it is interesting, lots of us, i am sorry about this, but i am a real by sorry about this, but i am a real rugby union del. that is ok, i forgive you. lots of us do not so -- do not know is much about the prince's association with rugby league. how involved busy? it is only in the last 12 months he has become a patron so years been involved on a couple of occasions. 0ne involved on a couple of occasions. one was involved on a couple of occasions. 0ne wasa involved on a couple of occasions. one was a charity event where he was in and around hundreds of kids playing the sport, boys and girls, and he joined playing the sport, boys and girls, and hejoined in, not like boris
9:22 am
johnson, but he joined and hejoined in, not like boris johnson, but hejoined in and hejoined in, not like boris johnson, but he joined in with a big smile on his face. he was passionate about being there. the second occasion was with the england men's team before we went to the world cup la st team before we went to the world cup last year. he had a private meeting with them and he was brilliant, down—to—earth and passionate about the sport and our country. especially with rugby league, you go into those dressing rooms, you have got to know your stuff before you walk in there. you cannot bus guide. no, and yet clearly done his research. i am no, and yet clearly done his research. i am sure no, and yet clearly done his research. i am sure that he will be at some of international game in the not too distant future. he is a keen supporter of england rugby union and rightly so, but you have a combination of both, it is special for him and great to him involved. you spent time in the military, he spent time in the military. as he spoke to you about how important that period was for him? it is the most wonderful thing about being with them, ultimately we have had similar experience, we both served ten yea rs similar experience, we both served ten years in the military together.
9:23 am
he ultimately left, perhaps not in terms he wanted to, after his first tourin terms he wanted to, after his first tour in afghanistan. i know that through his work with iain vigurs game, just like me, it is itching a scratch, it is an opportunity to get backin scratch, it is an opportunity to get back in the atmosphere and relish the fact he is with the boys. when we hear him speak about invictus, it is very interesting. there is something about it that is utterly personal. when he is talking to you it is personal, but which he is on the public stage, there is something he parts. you can almost feel the emotion. it is deep inside him. the invictus game has changed my lives in ways i could never have expected and ultimately that is all down to him. he put a great team together, lots of people working around the scenes, but he was a guy who said, we are doing this in eight months, and he drove it because of his passion. do you think it would not have happened without him? do you
9:24 am
think it took that person is important is driving it? it might have happened in time, but —— it might have happened in time, but too late, ultimately. he was there to drive it. but there is the magic that was invictus. the site before we sought. it is nice to talk to you. have a great time at the wedding. huw edwards will tell us more about what is happening. thank you very much. just looking at my watch. we are within a few minutes of the daughters of st george's chapel opening. i just think this is the moment we want to ta ke think this is the moment we want to take in the scene. to see what has been going on inside st george's chapel over the last couple of days. we have spent a couple of days talking to the people who have been working inside the chapel. the outside, we are familiar with the scene, it is a glorious day at windsor. philippa craddock is a florist chosen by harry and meghan
9:25 am
to decorate the chapel itself. here we have the moment when the south door of st george's chapel is opened on this royal wedding day. it is the moment that lots of people will be giving the signal to come to the chapel itself, and look at the decoration. philippa craddock and the team have done this over the last couple of days, decorate the chapel with all kinds of locally sourced foliage. it really is a kind of flowing, glorious leg. that cascade of flowers and greenery, lots of roses. lots of blooms, lily of the valley, foxgloves. trees, beach and birch have been woven as well. that is one section, forming an archway over the south door. let me tell you, there is more to come. elsewhere in st george's chapel, you will see that this display is truly on an epic scale. take a look at
9:26 am
this. i cannot tell you how beautiful it is. indeed, the aroma, when you go into the chapel itself, because these roses are glorious. absolutely glorious. a little explanation of what we're looking at, that section of the chapel because it is split into two parts. both decorated richly. 0n because it is split into two parts. both decorated richly. on a little more than the other. this is the nave, the big open space at the west end of st george's chapel. there we have the oregon screen, you can see the casework on either side, and beyond that, the much more intimate and medieval setting of the quire. this is where you have the heart of the ritual, the life of the erotic nights, the knights of the garter. this is where they hold their
9:27 am
service and have their own seats in the quire, and you have the medieval display of carpentry and banners, right at the heart of this chivalry and her role big order. i cannot really underline enough how powerful an impression this creates. this is the setting for today's wedding service at windsor. we are looking at the quire, where the royal family will take their seats, were guests on both sides will be taking their seats later on. there will be some familiarfaces on seats later on. there will be some familiar faces on either side, seats later on. there will be some familiarfaces on either side, not just members of the royal family but other specially invited guests. i will not spoil the surprise at this stage, we will see them arriving a short while. that is the quire. back in the nave, we have this glorious decoration. that will be one the prime of features of the day. look at the window at the west end. take in the scene. that is one of the
9:28 am
biggest medieval windows in the world. you have all of this floral display, and this free—flowing look. it is almost trying to blend this medieval, gothic architecture with these displays. it has been done with a touch of genius and chatting to philip and the team, i asked them when they were wrapping up last night, and they said, actually, it will be five o'clock in the morning. that is the result. when you see the west door a little later on, where the bride will arrive, if anything it is more impressive. you have the west door, tucked underneath the great medieval west window. all of that to come but a taste of the beauty and the glory of st george's chapel, windsor. the scene of today's service. thank you very much. intimate and branded the same time. quite the
9:29 am
building. iwas branded the same time. quite the building. i was speaking to a lovely couple of ladies, set and vanessa. it is called the quire, the bit where the royal family will be sitting. it looks so splendid. they have found a special polish to do the pews with. they were shining. va nessa the pews with. they were shining. vanessa was doing the carpets. should i said, that looks like a ha rd should i said, that looks like a hard job. she said should i said, that looks like a hardjob. she said it should i said, that looks like a hard job. she said it is a beautiful place to be clean. they have worked so place to be clean. they have worked so hard to making that place sparkle. beautiful. now, none of us would be here today if, almost two years ago, harry and meghan hadn't first met on a blind date. we might have been if we decided to visit the castle today. things clearly went well at the first meeting. that has led to a great love story, capturing the attention of the world. and the fact that i fell in love with meghan so incredibly quickly was sort of confirmation to me that all the stars were aligned, everything was just perfect. there was this beautiful woman
9:30 am
who tripped and fell into my life and ifell into her life. their paths crossed in 2016 when a mutualfriend suggested a blind date. meghan had only one concern. i had one question, is he nice? if he wasn't kind, it didn't seem like it would make sense and so we went and met for a drink. i was beautifully surprised when i walked into that room and saw her and there she was, sitting there. i was like, i really have to up my game here! i think very quickly we said, what are we doing tomorrow? we should meet again. what are we doing tomorrow? let's meet again. then it was, diaries, we need to get our diaries out and find out how we're going to make this work, because i was off to africa for a month, she was working and we said, "right, where's the gap? " and the gap happened to be the perfect place. i managed to persuade her to come join me in botswana and we camped out with each other under the stars and spent five days out there which was fantastic.
9:31 am
then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure we had a chance to get to know each other. the family's been great. we've had a really nice time getting to know them and progressively helping me to feel a part of not just the institution, but also part of the family. harry and meghan chose the invictus games in toronto for their first official appearance together and, just two months later, in harry's cottage at kensington palace, he popped the question. it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. he got on one knee. the ring is yellow gold and the diamonds either side are from my mother's jewellery collection to make sure that she's with us on this crazy journey together. it's beautiful and he designed it. it's incredible. both of us have passions for wanting to make change, change for good. one of the first things we spoke about when we met was the different things we wanted to do in the world. we hope to try and have as much
9:32 am
impact for all of the things we care about as much as possible. i am very excited about that. whatever we have to tackle, together or individually, it'll always be us together asa team. so, i think she's capable of... so nicely said, isn't it? oh, i don't know. she's capable of anything. are you cry and? i'm not going to do it because we are live on tv! we're joined now by george the poet, who opened the show for us with his beautiful poem, the beauty of union. it is very nice to have you with us again and it was kind of remarkable to have you talking about the modern love story which the eyes of the world a re love story which the eyes of the world are upon in that very ancient place, if what was it like to proclaim your work in such a space?
9:33 am
it is surreal because literally it is history. and like you said it has got a very first when he first century spin to it with everything. but i'm very excited and honoured to be part of it. this morning we opened the show with it and you were, come on, i can't start the show like that it's going to get me there! were you happy with your performance? yeah, comfortable with it! you should be! throughout the centuries there is probably no more written about subject than love, so where do you begin?” written about subject than love, so where do you begin? i had to remove myself from it, i had to think about what it meant first of all to the two individuals getting together and secondly to the world, because it is an event of international significance. sol an event of international significance. so i suppose love is at the core of it and you've just got to be respectful and understanding of what's happening. is that the kind of thing, would you ta ke is that the kind of thing, would you take advice from anyone, from them, 01’ take advice from anyone, from them, or would you just go, you know what,
9:34 am
i'm going to go away and how long is it take you, are you the kind of guy who would write it in half an hour 01’ who would write it in half an hour or would it be months...? it's who would write it in half an hour or would it be months. . . ? it's a good question. the majority of the work for me is the thinking. it's a question of my personal experience and my understanding and thenjust trying to create something... walking down the street, people thinking you're crazy because you're talking to yourself! i'm talking to myself! been doing it since i was 15! there is also a very interesting aspect to poetry, which is we go to poetry for the very intimate times in our life poetry for the very intimate times in ourlife and poetry for the very intimate times in our life and also for very public moments. a lot of people might not be reading poetry day to day but they might read a poem at a wedding 01’ they might read a poem at a wedding or at they might read a poem at a wedding orata they might read a poem at a wedding or at a funeral service. the group poetry means different things to different people but it is always there when we are trying to sum up important emotions? completely. i think it gets to the centre of our experience and it can cover such a range. ijust experience and it can cover such a range. i just released experience and it can cover such a
9:35 am
range. ijust released a new episode of my podcast and the poetry which is coming in that is so different from what is happening here but at the same time it isjust about that universal human experience, it's a beautiful thing. we're going to give you that plug, incidentally! that was a big plug! wh auden said about poetry that it is giving voice to the feelings that people have in their head but they have not always been able to articulate? that's it, but that universal thing. you spend time with harry, what was it like, and how did you find him? so, going to the thing with harry back in 2015 was amazing. i had recently been made ambassador of his charity with lesotho and it is all about providing psychosocial support for young people in lesotho. what do you make of all of this, it is kind of
9:36 am
jawdropping? it really is but to me it is an investment of a people in their identity. this is symbolic to so their identity. this is symbolic to so many people around the world. it's beautiful. don't you find today in particular, and i think to a degree 2011 as well, there seems to bea degree 2011 as well, there seems to be a modernity to this, it seems like it is almost moving the royal family in whatever way you want to describe it, moving it on? yeah, definitely what harry and meghan represent and the things that they have demonstrated about their character throughout their public lives, just off the back of that alone it definitely is a step into the future. put some words to that, will you?! do you think it's important for the royal family and for britain that we are a welcoming ina for britain that we are a welcoming in a biracial member of the family into the heart of the establishment, is that important to you?” into the heart of the establishment, is that important to you? i think it is that important to you? i think it isa is that important to you? i think it is a big symbolic step, obviously, we know that we are all equal either
9:37 am
way but what it means to other people who might have thought it wants to be impossible, that is unprecedented. thank you. so nice to talk to you. some musical compliments! it's my band! we asked for you to get in touch with us. katie on facebook says... my advice to them would be to enjoy every moment. to says... we are having a family garden party to celebrate the royal wedding. my husband is celebrating his birthday today, my daughter's elevenths wedding anniversary and the fa cup final as well! and we have pictures as you can see of some of the guests arriving. we will be trying to spot the notables and the quotables later on! ithink the notables and the quotables later on! i think we can go to or now. 0r on! i think we can go to or now. or oduba: on! i think we can go to or now. 0r 0duba: they have come from all corners and we have gathered a group here representing the west midlands.
9:38 am
warwickshire, with these ladies! you have been here soaking up royal wedding favour for have been here soaking up royal wedding favourfor a have been here soaking up royal wedding favour for a couple of days — just ascribe it? wedding favour for a couple of days - just ascribe it? it is incredible, i don't even know where to look, there is so much going on! i walk around with my mouth open all the timejust staring at around with my mouth open all the time just staring at everything! and david beckham is still to come! i know! it could get embarrassing! tell us about the shipston christmas community lunch? we started it a couple of years ago we decided we wanted to do fully something for young people who may be on their own at christmas and it has been a success, at christmas and it has been a success, getting the community involved in providing a traditional christmas dinner on christmas day. incredible, it is a bit strange to be talking about christmas when it is about 30 degrees but you do an amazing thing and make sure you keep enjoying it! and these guys were at
9:39 am
buckingham palace earlier in the week so they like mingling with royalty, rashid bhayat, you had the duke and duchess of cambridge at your foundation earlier this year? yes, they visited the positive youth foundation, and it was a really interesting day, where they spoke to many young people about the challenges of society. we saw a real connection between their ambitions to help young people and our work and the work of thousands of charities across the uk. you offered them a job? charities across the uk. you offered them ajob? i did, i'm still waiting to hear! if i get the chance to see them to day i will be following it i them to day i will be following it up! today could be the day! just tell us, it's amazing for everybody to be here, to get the invitation, and for you it was a bit uncertain, you were not sure what you had got in the post? you're referring to my parking fine! i have to say i am a responsible citizen but i did think for a while that i had been caught up for a while that i had been caught up with! it turned out to be an invitation and i was absolutely honoured to receive it and it is really important for us that the
9:40 am
invitation shows the importance of youth work with young people up and down the uk having many challenges and if we can use this opportunity to raise the profile of investing in young people, that's a great thing. you must be incredible big —— incredibly proud, all four of you look fantastic, enjoy the day, how could you not?! thank you! and you are looking at idris elba with his fiancee, magnificently dressed, am i allowed to say gucci and it is bbc! 0ther allowed to say gucci and it is bbc! other brands are available! and there we have the shy and retiring 0prah there we have the shy and retiring oprah winfrey, and what a hat she's got! jo elvin is sitting next to us andi got! jo elvin is sitting next to us and i am so glad you are, because this is a feast of summer wedding fashion. i was reading this morning that we were going to be expecting a top milliner by the name of mel stuart saying that the americans are conservative with their hats, well... suck on that, says oprah!
9:41 am
actually hats are very difficult, women see hats in an invitation and they think, oh, no! and there's another beautiful one, but is earl spencer and his wife and that's a beautiful colour. i predict a lot of dual colours, actually. so magnificent. so, for the ladies, the instruction on the invitation which dropped through the letterbox was... day dress and hat. what constitutes a day dress? that is the thing. i think for a royal wedding it would be very demure, very covered. i think the going into the church you need something covering the answer. soi need something covering the answer. so i think all of these ladies have done themselves proud. i think kneelength is generally considered the best option, knee or below. kneelength is generally considered the best option, knee or belowm the best option, knee or belowm the invite says at, does that mean it is an absolute given? that is as
9:42 am
it is an absolute given? that is as it is an absolute given? that is as it is understood but of course at the last wedding samantha cameron did not weara the last wedding samantha cameron did not wear a hat and everybody clutched their pearls a little bit! so maybe we will see an uncovered head but i think you don't want to be the one who got the queen's evil eye! and the earl and countess of wessex, when they had their wedding it was evening gowns and specifically no hats! you can talk a little bit too much about clothes, not for me! but there is something about an instruction like that, day dress and that's, which tells you you are having to step up to the mark? and i think the hat really makes the difference, doesn't it? it changes the formality — and how often do we get to dress up like that, so i would be embracing it. and i like the clarity of it as well. earl spencer there was looking terribly happy and relaxed and proud, because of course he is therefore his nephew and seeing...
9:43 am
seeing a young man who he has seen through all sorts of circumstances, today probably enjoying one of the happiest moments of his life, and a lot of what people were wearing looked very celebratory. let's talk about what the bride might be wearing. oh, gosh, i can't wait to know! it is tortuous! so, there are names in the frame, it seems to have narrowed down to half a dozen names? well, it has narrowed, kirsty, and thenit well, it has narrowed, kirsty, and then it has broadened again! now, airway calibre is a huge speculatively name in the frame, and other british designer. but if she isa other british designer. but if she is a french fashion house, would she choose that? i am just telling you what twitter tells me! how does it work and you go out and then you do 40 work and you go out and then you do a0 minutes research, is it sources, is it...? yes, andjust talking a0 minutes research, is it sources, is it. . . ? yes, and just talking to each other and reading each other‘s things... it isjust
9:44 am
each other and reading each other‘s things... it is just the each other and reading each other‘s things... it isjust the most each other and reading each other‘s things... it is just the most fun guessing game in the world, to be honest! i myself like a bit of evidence —based speculation so let's think about... i would never claim to be that! there is idris elba shaking the hands of another guest if very dapper, no morning suit. yes, lounge suits for the gents. they had three choices, either to wear military regalia, or to wear lounge suits or morning suits. and of course if you were a morning suit you can also wear a top hat. but it seems that even the very top brass of the pressure lines of the british establishment have chosen to leave their top hats... perhaps it is quite inconsiderate in a church to haveit quite inconsiderate in a church to have it obscuring the view. anyway, back to the dress! from what we know about the bride's fashion sensibility, obviously, any designer is going to want to put their clothes on meghan markle, because she makes everything look a million
9:45 am
bucks. but who does she favour, what kind of designers does she like? her general style is streamlined, classic, with edgy twist, shorts with a suit. how do you marry that, fio with a suit. how do you marry that, no pun intended, with the interviews she is given in the passing that she would favour a romantic wedding dress. how we put those two things together is intriguing. she has worn on designer on a few occasions. do we go back to that? that is the one i would like to see. he would do a superb romantic wedding dress, it would really hug her figure in all the right ways and still have an edge to it. he sells very expensive dresses but he does not sell wedding dresses. he does not but i think his style is made for that romantic. the other lovely clear with him, he did
9:46 am
a show where the inspiration was actually when the juke met the queen. he went through the royal archives. can i ask a silly question. is there any chance that she could pick a designer that you have not heard of? could goes so left—field? have not heard of? could goes so left-field? i have not heard of? could goes so left—field? i am expecting some sort of major surprise. you are? yes. that is a terrifying possibility at this point. i will be googling away if it is designer we have not of. she is known for looking for the brands and championing them. we're looking at james bland. brands and championing them. we're looking atjames bland. i am looking at the lovely woman with james bland. what a spectacular outfits is wearing. a beautifulfashion feast for those of us who are interested today. i am a sucker for any yellow. gorgeous, a primrose yellow hat.

9:50 am
all invited to the wedding. someone definitely got the hat. very nice. fabulous. let's come to you first. you head up the royal foundation. the fab four, there are not wrong, there is something about the impact of those four relatively young people striding out into the world. what do you make of the fact that meghan is joining the team? world. what do you make of the fact that meghan isjoining the team7m is wonderful she isjoining and wonderful that prince harry is marrying someone as committed to philanthropic work as years. she will make a big difference. the whole point of the royal foundation is we try and make an impact on difficult social problems, we try and change mindsets. we saw that with the heads together mental health work that we, and the campaign we had last year, and the ongoing work we are doing now. she is just ongoing work we are doing now. she isjust coming into ongoing work we are doing now. she is just coming into the family but from what you have seen of her so
9:51 am
far, the press conference i saw, i think the energy struck me the most. fantastic energy, and like the others, a real people person, so when we go and private visits, able to sit down and talk to anybody and everybody on their level. to start to get undertheirskin everybody on their level. to start to get under their skin about what they are concerned about, how can we make a difference and help to improve their lives? people often wonder, these young royals, they are there for the camera, that is great and it brings publicity, but what are they doing behind the scenes. so let me as you, what is harry doing behind—the—scenes? let me as you, what is harry doing behind-the-scenes? i've been working at the royal foundation, and the armed forces programme since 2013, andl armed forces programme since 2013, and i have worked with the royal highness is on many different different programmes, specifically with prince harry on the invictus game, and most recently, with his work to do with the military, and the mental health of the armed forces community. it is not there for the cameras. the amount of hours
9:52 am
they put in behind the scenes. driving the decisions, prince harry in particular, he has a real visionary brain. he conceivably wants a project to go and he drives it forward. tell us about wellchild and were prince harry fits in? years been patron of wellchild for ten years. we are the national charity for seriously ill children. 0ur years. we are the national charity for seriously ill children. our main cause is to get children out of hospital, to make sure they can be cared for at home and have everything they need to be cared for at home. prince harry bought into that early on. we have grown in that 10—year period and he has been behind that and pushed us forward. was there an instance where he met a child at one of your days, and you would know this better than i, but the child told him he was waiting for the prince to turn up? you're never sure how children will react anyway. i am sure you know. prince
9:53 am
harry comes to our wellchild awards every years. he has met hundreds of the families and children. some of them are here at the castle. prince harry had a whole conversation with the naked old. he had no idea. he spent the whole time looking over his shoulder waiting for the prince and his crown to arrive. the whole conversation finished and he did not realise until afterwards that that was prince harry. that is one of the interesting things. there are very approachable. members of the public feel like they can talk to them. when i was on the train coming back with prince harry and meghan from nottingham, suddenly word got around. everybody working on the train was coming to collect rubbish are served tea and they were chatting to them and giving them congratulations, commenting on meghan's amazing teeth and telling prince harry how well he had done for himself. she does have great smile. we wish you a wonderful day. what the date will be, and what the

day in windsor. welcome if you're joining us the bbc. windsor is filling up. we can look at st george's chapel, just outside st george's chapel, just outside st george's chapel. the guests arriving. they have got the golden ticket. 600 odd people today filtering into the chapel for what will surely be a royal wedding like no other. certainly we have seen a guest list like no other. this is not a state occasion. we're not seeing politicians are heads of state. we have seen a few cracking celebrities already and i think there will be more of them, and everybody looks set for a superb occasion. let's head back to alex jones. hopefully she is somewhere on the long walk. i am. it is so lovely to chat to everybody and find out what has inspired them and captured the imagination and brought them here to windsor this morning. for
9:55 am
some people it is all about the outfit. i will attempt to sit in a camping chair. we are down. we have gotjack, camping chair. we are down. we have got jack, and rosie. camping chair. we are down. we have gotjack, and rosie. it is all about the clothes for you, isn't it? prince harry, what do we expect him to weara? a prince harry, what do we expect him to wear a? a shirt and a chord. i hope he is wearing a shirt. it will be —— it will be awkward otherwise. and a bow tie. good, maybe we can manage that. you are like a young meghan yourself, looking gorgeous. what three things do you expect to see on the dress? lace, sleeveless and a long veil. i think we can manage that. it is all about the outfits. look at these two. we saw them last night, married, they have com pletely them last night, married, they have completely transformed. is it living up completely transformed. is it living up to your expectations? beyond excited, thrilling. what are you looking forward to? waving at them as they are driving in the carriage.
9:56 am
yet your camera phones at the ready. can we have a twirl? look at this. cheering there are some dapper people no doubt that st george's chapel, but i think all the crowds have turned out pretty well, too. cheering thank you. thanks very much. what a magnificent sight on the long walk. windsor great park. with me, enjoying the scenery, is the prince of lesotho. in 2006 he set up a charity with prince harry. good to have you with us, your royal highness. wonderful to see you again. we chatted seven years ago, ina again. we chatted seven years ago, in a different location but a similar day. lovely to have you with us. thank you for having me. today brings another opportunity, given what the couple have done, to talk about the causes they support, including this one. yes, as you
9:57 am
know, it was set up in 2006 with harry. looking at the plight of the vulnerable children. but that vulnerability, as we said before, spreads from hiv, disability, both physical and mental, and we have a very unique group of vulnerable children called cowboys. that is where are coverages. “— children called cowboys. that is where are coverages. —— herd boys. the problem is addressing the stigma through education, getting young people involved. we appreciate that we need to empower the young people to ta ke we need to empower the young people to take the lead in some of these interventions. what is the biggest progress you have made in the past 12 years? it is on the side of white keirins of hiv patients. young people in lesotho, because of the stigma, because of the negative
9:58 am
aspect of hiv and taking the drugs, these young people were either falling by the wayside, afraid to ta ke falling by the wayside, afraid to take the drugs, but through the organisation which deals with children with hiv, we have seen a significant growth in terms of numbers, and kids are now taking the drugs, and they are advocates for a more positive and productive society and community. what does that work callous, because you know him well, what does it tell us about harry's character? two days a day of great celebration and he starts a new chapter in his life today but can you tell us more about the way he clearly wa nts you tell us more about the way he clearly wants to be of service to other people and use the incredible position of influence he has. to use it for the good of others? from the day he landed in lesotho, we drove
9:59 am
across country, and at the end of that eight weeks, he said, is this it? he said, no, we cannot stop at this. i have seen. there is lots we can do together. lots can be done for the children of lesotho. now, the model, having achieved some great things in the country, there are still some challenges. we are exporting the model to expanding into botswana. botswana is also equally hiv ravaged among adolescents and other vulnerable groups. the best practice that he has been in the driving seat for, to drive the passion, to drive us into action, because he started this from zero. but he has always had the vision and the passion. that passion shows in the response that he gets from the young people when he comes
10:00 am
to lesotho. they all love him. when iam here, to lesotho. they all love him. when i am here, i am to lesotho. they all love him. when iam here, iam notjust to lesotho. they all love him. when i am here, i am notjust here on my own behalf, i am here and a half of the children of lesotho. that is a lovely thing to say. a very warm message from the suit out to harry and meghan, that when the dust has settled, they should come to lesotho and have a jolly good traditional feast. the invitation has been delivered. i know that you have a pretty good seat today for the wedding service. a prominent position in the quire. you are looking forward to it? we have been looking for forward to this for some time and i teased him last time, i said, can you give us a heads up because i want to see some lesotho horsemen over in london to
10:01 am
lead you into the chapel but i could not get them here in time! but we wish them well and all the best, and in our tradition we wish them buckets and buckets of children! your royal highness, lovely to talk to you again! enjoy your day. it's going to be a wonderful day. are thanks to prince seeiso for spending time with us today. welcome to viewers around the world, people joining us from every corner of the world. if you'rejoining us now, we are within a couple of hours of the service starting and this is the glorious scene inside st george's chapel, windsor, with the congregation just getting into place. and here we have all the, that iqbal is, so colourful and rich, representing centuries of british history. —— all the heraldic
10:02 am
banners. and there you have the seats where the nights of the garter ta ke seats where the nights of the garter take their place for the garter ceremony every april. and we are also expecting in those quire seats to see the choir itself, one of the best choirs in the world, they will best choirs in the world, they will be performing today and they have beenin be performing today and they have been in existence since 13a8, so we're looking forward to that. inside this wonderful chapel, earl spencer there just chatting to some guests before the service gets under way ina guests before the service gets under way in a couple of hours' time. safely in their places, because lots of april were asked to be firmly in their seats by 11 o'clock orjust after. so we have seen a few people already taking their places, but lots still to come. but numbers... as we look at the main body of the quire itself, some 600 people in this congregation, most of them in
10:03 am
this congregation, most of them in this space that we are seeing in front of us, the nave. the seats are in kind of zones in the nave. 600 people were presenting friends and family in many cases but those charities and organisations that the couple feel very strongly about, where they want people to support, where they want people to support, where they want people to support, where they will be signalling support in the future. and there we have the lower ward of windsor castle, people gathering in the may sunshine for this very happy day and it couldn't be better weather, it really couldn't. james haskell among those arriving here. and ijust think they are in for a feast and we might refer in some more detail later on to the kind of service we can expect, because i content one thing, without giving away too many secrets, the music in today's
10:04 am
service is absolutely sublime, a very broad range of music but it is a real treat. so, let's look forward to that as well. in the meantime, dermot and kirsty, over to you. yeah, we're just seeing the guests filing in through the south door. saw dan snow resplendent in morning dress. of course dan would be in mourning question and we saw the first actual member of the royal family, 0prah first actual member of the royal family, oprah winfrey, turning up as well! it is interesting, we saw james haskell coming in with 0prah winfrey and it gives you an indication of the cross—section of british and international society that makes this a wedding like no other. we have not seen really this sort of snapshot before, which gives us an sort of snapshot before, which gives us an indication of the type of people the couple makes with and the kind of things they are interested m, kind of things they are interested in, personally and socially. and we get a real sense of the couple who are at the centre of the occasion to
10:05 am
day. fascinators. we can go to anita rani, who is nowjoined i think by one of today's guests. and i am with a representative of rhino conservation in botswana. welcome. thank you very much, it is a great privilege. prince harry is a patron of your conservation charity, what does that mean? well, a few years ago i got talking to harry about the conservation of rhinos and my organisation in botswana and to my supplies he got really interested and thenl supplies he got really interested and then i discovered that he enjoyed conservation, he understood what it meant to the people of the world to have conservation. and so we got talking about conservation and rhino conservation in our country. and he is quite hands-on? 0h, we have done a number of operations together, hands—on with the rhinos, we also work with
10:06 am
people. he is particularly interested in the links between people and wildlife and in our case, rhinoceros, yes. he has to scripted botswa na rhinoceros, yes. he has to scripted botswana as his second home and we know that three or four weeks into his relationship with meghan, they slept under the stars in botswana, what is it about botswana which makes it such a beautiful place? well, i don't know. very friendly people, wide open spaces, absolutely magnificent countryside. and a leadership that is very pragmatic, concerned about wildlife. it's just a wonderful, wonderful place on earth. how do you think prince harry will be feeling right now? well, i don't know, i can't comment, really, on that but i imagine like anybody on that but i imagine like anybody on his wedding day he will be a touch nervous but he's a confident individual, i imagine he will get through it ok. and you look very smart, ami
10:07 am
through it ok. and you look very smart, am i right in asking you, is this the first time you've worn a suit? i think you would be right! i have worn jacket and tie before but not often a suit! i am more co mforta ble not often a suit! i am more comfortable in my uniform as rhino conservation man! you look fantastic, have an amazing day. thank you for talking to me and you have a good day as well! and a contenderfor beard of have a good day as well! and a contender for beard of the wedding as well! that was pretty cool! joining us now a writer and social commentator. welcome, great to have you with us. it is great to be hey! lovely dress! well, we are at the wedding! so, listen, which are outside the world's oldest inhabited castle, what difference to the royal family do you think meghan markle will make? i think the challenge for the royal family is how to be a family that represents fashion
10:08 am
values in a society that's about equality of opportunity and multiculturalism. and i think that meghan markle is certainly someone who represents the latter. she has become successful through her own tale nt become successful through her own talent and hard work, she's used her celebrity to jumping causes that she is passionate about, and also as a woman of mixed heritage she hasn't shied away from speaking about the, she has owned it. and as a black woman of mixed heritage myself in britain i think there has been a lot of pressure, if you're entering spaces that have previously been very white to downplay your identity. and i think she represents a real cultural change in her willingness not to minimise it but to speak about it and for me that sends a powerful signal, that you can own your identity, it is not something to shy away from, and but also there is nothing essentially white about britishness. for a lot of people the royal family represent a sense of british identity, and until now that had been identity very much linked to whiteness in
10:09 am
many people's perceptions. sol think the symbolic change which meghan's entry to that family makes is actually quite profound. is there an inherent tension the meghan markle, do you think, because she has spoken very quickly about the subject of her own race and her personal struggle with making peace with her identity and what it was, there is inherent to the leg in the royal family, that is the very tradition of it, they hand down the privilege and she is about equality of opportunity, is there paradox, do you predict tension there? there are so you predict tension there? there are so many paradoxes and i can personally relate to it. while i have felt quite alienated by the idea of inherited privilege, at the same time my own struggles with identity have made me appreciate the need for cultural continuity. so while i did not really relate to the royal family i related to the fact that people did. i can relate to the need for that tradition. as the world changes, that sense of a history which lived today. so i
10:10 am
think everyone can relate to the need to have traditions you embrace andl need to have traditions you embrace and i respect that for a lot of people the royal family provider that. you pointed out earlier on, there is no reason as to why you should downplay your identity and embrace essentially your in—laws as well! speaking of in-laws, just going into the chapel... we are sitting among the splendour, we are completely, i have to say i am enjoying it, we are buying into it today, do you think meghan markle exit more difficult for people have a tendency towards republicanism to bea a tendency towards republicanism to be a republican, because she represents something distinctive different? anecdotally there are many people i know who have always been very sceptical of the royal family whojust been very sceptical of the royal family who just cannot help themselves from being interested in this wedding! in spite of all of their ideology, theyjust can't help it, because they feel compelled by her! and look at who she has invited, she has invited other self—made people, invited, she has invited other self— made people, lacked invited, she has invited other self—made people, lacked icons,

0prah self—made people, lacked icons, oprah winfrey, serena williams, idris elba, people who have real meaning for so many people. —— back icons. she has got the gospel choir performing, the episcopalian bishop michael currie, she has sheku performing as well and it is something which even people who are not hands of the royal family feel very passionate about. we hope to see you later on as well. social media—wise, what have we got home and this one says... making sure all my homework is done in time to sit down for nine o'clock. this one... having a barbecue with the family, i've met prince harry on a couple of occasions... you i've met prince harry on a couple of occasions. . . you name i've met prince harry on a couple of occasions... you name dropper! he is a lovely down—to—earth guy, it says. you get to name drop today, it is all about that! please tell us how you are celebrating the royal wedding! maybe you have met either

10:13 am
at st george's chapel. these final moments must be nerve—racking for any bride but the entire world will be watching when meghan departs from this hotel and makes her way to windsor castle, accompanied by how the mother doria jeff lima it is a national ink asian but inside the mother and daughter asked chairing a deeply intimate moment, that private time together before they set off an face the world's media. you can only imagine what is going through meghan's mind and how her mother doria is feeling as she watches her daughter, her only child, get ready to marry a prince. it's the ultimate fairytale. so, we will be coming and going we think from clivedon but for now let's have a look at the guests as they filter in to the chapel. jo elvin, ourfashion expert as they filter in to the chapel. jo elvin, our fashion expert for the day, is here. what do you make of these pictures? everybodyjust looks fantastic. i love the colour that we're seeing. i love that mint

green. it is a beautiful spring day, thatis green. it is a beautiful spring day, that is alexi and his partner there. i was expecting to see a lot more pastels, we haven't really seen that, we have seen a lot of bold colours? yeah, and as i was saying, those more wintry tones have come through from spring a lot, like the emerald greens, as you're wearing yourself today, looking fantastic! that's amazing, isn't it? that is a wonderful outfit! that is bringing the festive, i like it! obviously, there have been some sensational headgear, are you spotting trends on the headgear, is there something which people are going for? i'm noticing they're either going big or going really tiny, there does not seem to be much in between at the moment. there's not many fascinators, that used to be the thing which people would gravitate
10:15 am
towards if they were scared to wear a hat. that's chelsey davy, an ex—girlfriend we believe of prince harry, and she's looking rather soulful as she sits there! and that isa soulful as she sits there! and that is a great hat! that is amazing, i'm going to guess something like philip tracy. absolutely gorgeous. and again that wintry tone, it works because it looks so festive again. that is a hat. look at this one. the feathers sticking up. incredible. if you're going to wear a hat, go for it. how often do we get to do it? we we re it. how often do we get to do it? we were cheekily referring to beatrice and eugenie's remarkable hats in 2011. i think that one is right up there. i really want them to push there. i really want them to push the boat out even more, all in it. it can be difficult to wear a hat,
10:16 am
ca nt it can be difficult to wear a hat, cant it? especially with me, when you just leibold if you were a hat. there is paper. she is wearing appeared on british brands. it is like the ultimate casual wardrobe. that is made in britain, it is one of the selling points. it is british design and british made.” of the selling points. it is british design and british made. i thought that was annabel goldie smith. was it carole middleton? i think it was. she just sneaked out of frame. she looks fantastic. i member heard blue from kate's wedding. the man shaking hands with carole middleton worked at manchester united. he went on, as head of communications, to the boys at st james's palace. head of communications, to the boys at stjames's palace. he was very accomplished that his job, and was seen to throw down a ring of steel when need be but was very fear in

ido like i do like these masks. look at that. a splendid. if very happy spaniel. a unionjack bowtie. a splendid. if very happy spaniel. a union jack bowtie. there is the royal couple. look at the little fellow. time to go back to anita rani who has managed to cholera wedding guests before she takes her seat in the chapel. sir clive woodward, lady jane, welcome to windsor. what an amazing day? amazing, thanks, it is an honour to be here. you have quite an honour to be here. you have quite a strong relationship with prince harry. it all started because of his love of rugby. he loves rugby and we first met harry when he was 13, he came to twickenham and he was in the royal box with his mehsud. afterwards i saw him and he did not
10:19 am
look happy. we changed the whole routine. they are if you were great, we gave him six tickets and he brought his friends along and sat in the crowd. he started to enjoy it. he has been a big fan ever since. is it true thatjonny wilkinson gave him a rabbitoh? very true. he still wears it. i do not think he has washed it. after the game he said, look what i've got. we saw he had assured. he has never washed it, ever. you still wears it. you were known for throwing the legendary parties in the car park. tell us more about these parties? it was a way of looking after the wives and girlfriends, and mums and dads because there were not enough tickets to go around inside. that is where harry and william used to come with all their friends and mingle. they would get stuck in. they would hand around the cakes and the champagne and things and we would all watch the game. he started coming in1988, so
10:20 am
all watch the game. he started coming in 1988, so it was fantastic support for us. tell us about baking for prince harry? i am dreadful at baking but every now and then i had to go to school to see, take tickets, so i would take along some ca kes for tickets, so i would take along some cakes for him and his friends. whether they are at them or not... they were really good. lovely. what sort where they? sponge. that is about all i can do. how proud are you both feeling today? bursting, thanks. i am you both feeling today? bursting, thanks. lam really you both feeling today? bursting, thanks. i am really proud you both feeling today? bursting, thanks. lam really proud because i have seen him grow up, as a young boy. you see the welcome today, it isa boy. you see the welcome today, it is a big day. he looks really happy, and that is all he wants. he has been massive for us on the rugby said, he is a great guy and we are delighted to be here and happy for him. wonderfulto delighted to be here and happy for him. wonderful to see him delighted to be here and happy for him. wonderfulto see him so happy. we wish them all the best. you both look gorgeous. have a great day.
10:21 am
thank you for speaking to me. thank you. thanks to sir clive and lady woodward. guess still arriving in the sunshine at st george's chapel. we have seen the chapel filling up quickly. errol spence chatting to some of the guests in the quire. we have at least 300 people in the chapel. dan snow, my colleague from the bbc, the broadcaster and his wife. i am just wondering at this point what the neighbours looking like. it is about half—full. a couple of hundred people there. quite a few people still to arrive. 0ver quite a few people still to arrive. over the past ten minutes, some of those people associated with prince harry in the past, and those who've served with him in the armed forces. looking at these images with me as someone who knows prince harry well,
10:22 am
andindeed someone who knows prince harry well, and indeed william, their private secretary, role that he left in 2013. a warm welcome to the studio. it isa 2013. a warm welcome to the studio. it is a lovely day. the most perfectly imaginable. as an event, when you think back to the fact that you knew the boys when they were young, they needed lots of help and guidance, and at one stage, understandably, here we are, celebrating an event like this. the transition for you must seem very satisfying. for me it is a culmination of what has been a great journey for prince harry. he was a lwa ys journey for prince harry. he was always very special, and i do not mean that in a courtier way. he was a lwa ys mean that in a courtier way. he was always a good guy. it is great to see him on his happy day. what do you make of the partnership? it is unbelievable, a wonderful modern coming together. with harry and his
10:23 am
way of doing things, it really means that they will be able to do great things together. we are looking at more people arriving. what are your thoughts on the mix of people that we have here today, what does it tell us about them ? we have here today, what does it tell us about them? it reflects the eclectic nature of prince harry. he is primarily interested in people. what you're seeing here is nothing less tha n what you're seeing here is nothing less than the mix of what he has a lwa ys less than the mix of what he has always been fascinated by, people. the circle of friends is interesting for us to see. it is not obvious to the public very often where the circle of friends is and what kind of frenzied r. describe the friendships and how they work out for us? actually, it is very similar to anybody. you layer your friendships as you go through life. 0bviously friendships as you go through life. obviously it is a very different life to most of us which prince harry has had, but it is school
10:24 am
friends, army friends, the army has played a massive part in his life, and he has been in more than one regiments of years friends from the household cavalry, the army air corps, and then he has his friends from his charitable work, and his work as a member of the royal family. the best man, as we know, is william, his brother. there was a little big, saying, revenge would be sweet, or suchlike in a playful way. how do you think that will work out. what is that partnership like? one of the reasons we are very lucky in this country, and i do not wish to sound sycopha ntic, but this country, and i do not wish to sound sycophantic, but they are both really, really good guys. they boys, the problem from opposite angles, the problem from opposite angles, the opportunity, whatever you want to call it. they are entirely complementary to one another and a lwa ys complementary to one another and always have been. we have seen lots of things they have done together over the years. they are very close and they have that very healthy
10:25 am
sibling rivalry. they take the mickey out of each other. carey mulligan and marcus montford. 0n mickey out of each other. carey mulligan and marcus montford. on his way in. one of the range of celebrities and entertainers. to reflect on what we were saying earlier... there we have lorraine hegarty, the chief executive of the well foundation. there we have possibly one of the biggest names. george clooney. again, telling is something not just about george clooney. again, telling is something notjust about celebrity, but this is again a couple engaged in campaigning, in saying something. it is. right back to the foundation of the charity and you have heard about that already today, it amazes me, coming across a 21—year—old boy, when i first did, boy, man, whatever, he had such drive on that side. it is a reflection of it. there we have the beckhams. this
10:26 am
really is a celebrity few minutes. a reflection of the kind of state and scope of this congregation. lovely to see them. george clooney is basking in the sunshine. did i say, basking in the sunshine. did i say, basking in the admiration and the applause. the beckhams, also, clearly having them pass the time. let'sjoin clearly having them pass the time. let's join dammit and kirsty. clearly having them pass the time. let'sjoin dammit and kirsty. ba listers have turned up at the same time. george clooney and his wife. you cannot underestimate the sheer star wattage. is somebody lighting them. they are shining. i will take a puntand them. they are shining. i will take a punt and say that is a merely awake a punt and say that is a merely awa ke state a punt and say that is a merely awake state she is wearing. i am probably wrong. if i awake state she is wearing. i am probably wrong. ifi am right, that is impressive. you said that in a split second. there we go. david beckham having a snap. the shades
10:27 am
are back on. victoria is winning a very elegant deep blue dress. i imagine that her seamstresses at her fashion brand have been very busy this week. just before we saw marcus montford and carey mulligan.” admire george from any reasons but he is walking nice and slowly and thatis he is walking nice and slowly and that is one reason i admire him, because he knows his wife is in heels. it takes time to negotiate the ancient cobbles of st george's. rudy gestede dropped off, that is a hill with a significant gradient for a heels. my wife would not be happy. mal clooney is an accomplished human rights lawyer. i think heels on cobbles is the least of her worries. that is tom bradley from itn. we have been reading recently that he has been having sleep problems. he looks like he had a good night's sleep last night. jonny wilkinson and his wife, with the lovely bump
10:28 am
under her beautiful lace dress. and a wave for the crowds, what they have been waiting for. it seems that half past ten is the time to turn up for the wedding. that must have been a jostle for them as they were coming down, do we want to be after george clooney or before? let's go to anita rani. i am with the chief executive of the diana word. you're at the wedding. my god, someone pinch me. this is amazing. the weather is great. this is incredible, iam weather is great. this is incredible, i am so excited, such an honour, on behalf of everyone at the diana words, we are honoured to be here. we've got about ten young people with me. incredible. what a spotlight the charities. what a spotlight the charities. what a spotlight on bringing charities in, bringing princess diana very much
10:29 am
into the ceremony today. incredible. how many qualities does prince harry share with his mum? my goodness, one of the things we say is that princess diana is remembered for her polities of compassion, tennis and servers, and that is how we would describe with prince harry and prince william. this wedding demonstrates how much service is important to them and how much of humanity in what is important to them. bring it on, we're very excited. it says so much about this young couple that they have said to everybody, donate to charities, they have invited all of you here. this will be fantastic going forwards. they are both power for will be fantastic going forwards. they are both powerfor good. individually they are ingrained in humanitarian work but together they area humanitarian work but together they are a force for good. this is massive news. this is huge. yesterday, i said massive news. this is huge. yesterday, isaid i massive news. this is huge. yesterday, i said i think i see meghan redefining what the princess means. it is not about golden
10:30 am
sandals, it is about service, about people, compassion and empathy. that is what i am excited about. how many people have you brought? ten. you are wearing a design by one of the young people you have helped. my my address is designed by a fabulous lady, she has done my hat, my dress... and it hasjust been incrediblejulie a huge thank you to everyone! 0ne incrediblejulie a huge thank you to everyone! one thing i really wanted to do was, in the ethos of the diana awards, allow young people to shine through this process, so they are here with me and they've been very much involved in thinking about the outfit and what it meant a, so it's been an incredible process. tessa, you look fantastic, have an amazing day! hurray for the weather! yes! it isa day! hurray for the weather! yes! it is a day for kisses, isn't it? and
10:31 am
the beautiful flowers we saw behind, done by philippa craddock and hurting. st george's chapel is a magnificent building anyway but it has come alight today with the guests will of good cheer in this late spring sunshine. it would be nice if victoria beckham smiled, maybe! anything can happen! we know that george clooney is smiling, he is loving it. beaming! there is the nave, which is the greater part of the building, and then there is the quire, which is the dark, smaller... and there is mister nicholasjones, that happens to be my old man! i am sitting here working... and there is one of my daughters, freya jones. i would not have tucked it in like that! i wish he could hear me gina they're mixing with the guests and
10:32 am
it is lovely to see them. what a day for freya, 17, it is the first time she has ever worn a hat. she said, mum, how do you wear a hat? and there is dan snow talking to george clooney and amal. it is fascinating. i have to say, watching all of this, what is fascinating, well, what people are wearing is fascinating but it is the social mix. and as we we re but it is the social mix. and as we were hearing from jesse, it's not about golden slippers and princesses and privilege, it's about the coming together of the worlds of these two people who are in love and in the mix of the guests we seem to see that. we are looking at the world worlds of high society, sport, the movies, it is all there. have never really seen a wedding like this before in the royal family. of course there is the sense of privilege with some of the guests,
10:33 am
and like you said, we have got a list is from america, famous sports stars, just mutual friends of the couple as well. i think it makes a very big difference. we saw the state occasion in 2011 which was a feast for the eyes but not having the politicians here, not having the heads of state, don't actually know the couple, seems to make everything just a bit more relaxed and friendly. do you think in many ways thatis friendly. do you think in many ways that is because it is here, because this is the well family's proper home, this is harry's home, the queen's home. could have something to do with it. we're going to go to or now. he has been catching up with some more guests in the grounds of the castle. what is so exciting about this wedding is the welcoming of meghan markle and her family within the royal family. leonora, you are one of the lucky people to have already met meghan markle — what was it like? it was amazing. she is so funny, beautiful and she has just got an amazing personality. and she came to visit you at your
10:34 am
school, nottingham academy, but it was not long after that that she came back, tell us why? when she came back, tell us why? when she came with harry i asked her to promise that she would come back, and she ended up coming back in less than six weeks. that's incredible! to have future royalty come to your school and the deputy prince above is here with us as well. it is incredible to be here at this event, but having been up close with these two royals it must have been amazing for the school? absolutely, it was inspiration inspirational for all of the students. they chatted to many of the pupils on that day and gave the words of advice, it was lovely. and do i hear that they are not much fa ns and do i hear that they are not much fans of the surprise visit, what happened when they surprised you at the school? leonora has had tourneys apprise visits, harry kane on his own and leonora was told that her mentor's boss was funny to see her and actually it was prince harry! there was lots of screaming from the
10:35 am
girls, as you can imagine! they weren't ready? they weren't, they hadn't done their eyebrows! and can ijust hadn't done their eyebrows! and can i just say hadn't done their eyebrows! and can ijust say i don't hadn't done their eyebrows! and can i just say i don't think hadn't done their eyebrows! and can ijust say i don't think i have seen better headway today! you both look fantastic, enjoy the day representing nottingham academy and enjoy it for yourselves as well! yesterday evening we were all rather captivated, maybe i'm just speaking for myself, by somebody who works a lot with harry with his charity, sentebale, and also if you know anything about pole you will know that nacho is the best of the best and he also happens to be a ralph lauren model in his spare time and there he is with his wife. they have four children and she looks absolutely ravishing in that took was down. and beautiful boat style hat, i think. was down. and beautiful boat style hat, ithink. and was down. and beautiful boat style hat, i think. and there is st george's chapel. we were a bit taken aback by nacho yesterday, weren't we?!| aback by nacho yesterday, weren't we?! i am not going to get myself into trouble! as soon as their engagement
10:36 am
was announced in november last year, prince harry and meghan made a concerted effort to head out around the uk and meet the people. their second official visit as a couple was to reprezent radio, a station in brixton in south london where they were lucky enough to meet munya chawawa and henrietta kwushue, whojoin us now. you look gorgeous first of all! what was it like when they came down?” think the undercurrent of the visit, at first when it was announced i think it was a case of, wait, they're coming to brixton to a radio station?! everybody was shocked but actually almost immediately as they arrived, there was a very inclusive feel and it hit everybody and that is what we are all about. what was the connection with the radio station, was there anything before? not at all. when they came they really started to explore mckinnon meghan had done her research, she
10:37 am
knew a little bit about us and we spoke about the work we have done in schools tackling mental health.” think it sends a huge message that they chose you guys for their second official visit and that the first visit was to the terrence higgins trust, the hiv charity. and what was it like to meet them, what were they like? they were so lovely, it was almost like meeting an old friend. very personable people, they were very lovely. and on top of that, again, meghan knew everything about us without us even having to say which was amazing. she came up with facts, like we train aoo which was amazing. she came up with facts, like we train 400 people every year and she knew that without us even saying it. it shows that she really cares about young people and the work that we do, which is very important. it is so interesting to hear. in your business, and you will meet a lot of people, and you can so easily tell the difference between somebody who is professionally nice and moving on, and somebody who seems to be engaged? 10096. you felt they were genuinely interested? absolutely. the first time i spoke
10:38 am
to prince harry, he cocked his ear to prince harry, he cocked his ear to listen to what we had to say and he was really inquisitive. i think initially he thought it was a radio station and then we, but of the stuff we had been doing in schools to do with mental health and that immediately got his attention. when you look at the backdrop of charity work that they have both done, i think he saw it as the reason it wasn't picked because it is much more than a radio station and it spreads out into so many areas. when we seejosh won't, usually she has her hairflowing, we seejosh won't, usually she has her hair flowing, she's got bare feet, and she's wearing something... but not today. joss stone has made quite a considerable effort, she is looking beautiful, we know she is a friend of harry's and here she is today heading to her friend's nodules. —— heading to herfriend's nuptials. did you speak to them?-
10:39 am
the google quite important for them to come because again itjust shows that they really care about what we do and what we get up to on a day—to—day basis. is a radio station we get about 2000 and signed artists, and it isjust really important for them to... artists, and it isjust really important for them to. .. and what has happened since the visit? it's been crazy! has it? yeah, it has. i think the day after i went in and they were like, oh, my god, you met harry and meghan?! but it was really good because it shone a really big light on represent and the work we do outside of radio as well. i'm interested in what you have to say on this — is it important to you that the royal family is well coming into its hearts of somebody who is biracial, is that significant? the way i see it from the time we spend around our young people is that for our generation, things like equality and inclusivity and love in all of its forms, for us at the norm, that's how it should be. but actually with the stuff that has happened in the last couple of years
10:40 am
there is a massive question mark over, is it the norm anymore? we had brexit and then we had certain political decisions in the us. i feel like this wedding today is a massive thumbs up from the top to say, actually we're going in the way we need to be going. that is what it feels like to me. such an interesting answer, thank you so much. and here we are on the roof of the guardroom. with our fantastic view of the no award. and with me is someone with a very precise eye on these things, the royal court was pondering for hello! magazine, emily nash. thank you for being here. we have spoken about fashion — what do you make of the event in terms of who is here, what do you read into it? we have just had a flurry of a—listers, it is a meeting of royalty a nd a—listers, it is a meeting of royalty and hollywood royalty today, we have seen the beckham is, george clooney and his wife, and i expect
10:41 am
you have also got other people, more unsung heroes if you like, friends of the bride and groom, who have brilliant stories to tell as well. people like nikki scott, who has just smashed this record for the cycling the length of two continents. got back here in time for the wedding! looking at the congregation there, it is really getting quite full, and most of the main guests have arrived, when we see meghan arriving a little later on and we see the ten bridesmaids and page boys, telese little bit about the selection in the group and what you make of it? they have chosen children who are very close to them, so we have prince george and princess charlotte, of the niece and princess charlotte, of the niece and nephew, but a they also have the children of their closest friends. we're going to see three children of jessica and ben but also prince harry's godchildren as well and i
10:42 am
understand there will be a few mothers in the mix as welljust to get them into position! are you next acting the content of the service to tell is something about their taste, are they going to make some kind of are they going to make some kind of a statement in terms of how modern it is, what is your reckoning?” think it is going to be relatively light relaxed by the standards of royal weddings. there will still be the national anthem, i royal weddings. there will still be the nationalanthem, lam royal weddings. there will still be the national anthem, i am sure there will be a curtsy to the queen before they lead the church. but they have got this gospel choir singing esther james tracks, what is not to love?! iamjust james tracks, what is not to love?! i am just thinking at this point, when we go through the service, the music is fantastic and we look at the range of people, then i'm thinking, do you know what, this is not a bad place to be, is it, in the no award? by the way, lots of the people in this lower ward are parts of the community of windsor castle. there is quite a big community of
10:43 am
people who live within the castle itself. they are among those and among the most excited of all. they are hosting the party and there is a real festival feeling. it is very much glastonbury goo without the mud! we were joking about the wristbands! a lot of fun and people are really enjoying the spectacle. when the bride arrives, just before the service starts, what are your thoughts on what we might see in terms of the wedding dress? clearly, the speculation is pretty intense? whatever i say now i might be setting myself up for a big fall! give me range of options options! stella mccartney i think would be a great choice, she's the ethical couldn't credentials, beautiful, elegant style. were also hearing other names, perhaps less expect it, claire wait keller is in the mix and
10:44 am
i think we will not know until the tour opens, it going to be huge moment. one of our guests from earlier now making his way into the quire, he has a pretty prominent place in the quire opposite where the royal family are sitting. he will be sitting on the same side as some of the other guests including the clooneys and oprah winfrey among others. but he is there because he has played such a big part in the setting up of the charity that harry really has given so much effort and time to, which is sentebale. so, as more guests arrive, emily, thank you very much forjoining us. and enjoy it. i will do! very much forjoining us. and enjoy it. iwill do! and very much forjoining us. and enjoy it. i will do! and we will see what happens atjust before midday. let scope to kirsty and dermot. thank you. jo is back with us. i havejust been handed this... this is fascinating. this is to do with adornment. it says they have chosen
10:45 am

10:47 am
keep up with the demand. that was the case in point. they ended up with a six month waiting list. meghan has it in an assortment of colours. you can get it now but there is a waiting list again. it is about £450. it is a reasonable entry point for a court if you want some of the meghan markle sparkle. the championing of small brands, both with catherine and meghan, it is massive. it can make a whole business. yes, and i really admire meghan's thoughtfulness into that, she has championed small scottish bank brands. and another on, which funds vaccines for every bag that they sell for children. it is very considered. the fashion business is big business. it is a multi—billion pound business for britain. big business. it is a multi—billion pound business for britainm big business. it is a multi—billion pound business for britain. it is a thing we're good at. it is bigger

expert, talked me through what serena williams has chosen? i love the chic tailoring. it is a body con dress that feels flattering and easy to wear. i guess it is like a roland, or perhaps even their friends. i cannot see her last name. it isa friends. i cannot see her last name. it is a lovely site, they guess being greeted as they make their way into st george's chapel. we know that the ceremony itself will start injust over an that the ceremony itself will start in just over an hour, that the ceremony itself will start injust over an hour, one hour in five minutes. it will start at midday. let's go back to anita, who is with another lucky guest. iam is with another lucky guest. i am with the chief executive of a charity, all the way from india, one of the seven selected charities that harry and meghan have asked people to donate to. you look sensational. we had to represent india. that is what we are doing. meghan visited your charity last year. what was she like, tell me about her impact?
10:57 am
meghan was so sincere, and really just an intellectual in this field of women's health and female empowerment. when she was with us, lots of the conversations we had we re lots of the conversations we had were along the lines of what do we do next, now that we know what the problems are with menstrual hygiene in india. it was a very sincere conversation. she is very approachable and easy to talk to. we all got along and she was willing to do anything we wanted. she wanted us to —— we wanted her to win a sari. she did that and she pulled it off. that photograph has been passed around every indian household in the world. she looks gorgeous and a little bit indian, which we love. you have not, loan? i have come with three other women, two of them are from the slums in mumbai and they have never been on a flight before. they came straight to london for the

royal wedding. it has been a dream come true for them. i am really happy that such a special occasion has happened. what is it impression of the uk? it will be windsor. yes, all of the greenery, and the incredible people here. what an honour to be one of the seven charities that harry and meghan have asked to donate to. what does that mean for your charity? ice being a really small organisation, such support that comes early on, it really helps us exponentially grow and think bigger. we were thinking about expanding to ten more women, now we can think about expanding to a hundred more women because we build that credibility through the support. it is important for the morale of women, to see themselves in the papers and feel like what they're doing is important and it is being recognised. how do you feel, you're about to go to the royal
10:59 am
wedding? really honoured and super excited. it is a once—in—a—lifetime opportunity and i cannot believe i am here. it is too good. it is wonderful you are here. you're only 23 years old, you look sensational. have a fantastic day. thanks. thanks. we are delighted to welcome banners lawrence to the studio. through her campaigning work for the stephen lawrence trust, she recently met prince harry and meghan markle at the 25th anniversary memorial service for her son. thank you for joining us today. it is an interesting moment in british cultural history. it is a snapshot of something different. giving you have met the couple, can you give me an impression of meghan markle when you spoke to her? being introduced to her, it is as if she understood what happened around
11:00 am
stephen so you had that empathy. the day for me was kind of roller—coaster so, to have somebody so roller—coaster so, to have somebody so calm and just really engaging, it was really good to have that. what did she talk to you about? she did not really is he that much, i think she really understood what happened around stephen and saying how sorry she was and she was really pleased to be there at the time. we talked a little bit about this earlier on, and royal family always have causes and royal family always have causes and it looks like meghan is bringing those causes on. they will not get involved in party politics but there isa involved in party politics but there is a point where horses and politics can overlap? i remember when their relationship was first announced, there was a lot of language in the press which i felt was very coded, racist references. prince harry issued a statement where he called
11:01 am
back out and condemned it and it was completely unprecedented for a senior royal to do that. and i think that it senior royal to do that. and i think thatitis senior royal to do that. and i think that it is difficult for them to put themselves out there on issues like this, but when it affect them personally, they do, and for me that was a hugely welcome moment. rebel like me who write about these things, we are often attacked ourselves. and to have somebody in that position be on your side makes a huge difference and i hope that they will continue to venture into spaces which historically have been considered a bit too difficult or awkward, because that's what we need in this country, we need to start talking about things and i think that meghan really has a track re cord that meghan really has a track record in doing that. harry has now entered that realm as well, and i think there is a lot of promise in that and i do not think they would do it for this reason, but if the royal family one to make themselves more relevant to a new generation thatis more relevant to a new generation that is exactly the kind of thing they need to do. we saw john and

norma major making their way in. baroness lawrence, i want to ask you, then, about, when we see the royals and the soon—to—be royals turn up at various events, usually there is more attention because of their presence — for you, what does that mean in your role as you continue your work 25 years on?” think stephen's name has always attracted quite a lot of media attention over the years. but to have both meghan and harry turn up, it was fantastic and it shows that they're more in tune to what is happening within society, and fact that they wanted to be there to support. we had prince william coming into the stephen lawrence trust before, with kate, and that was amazing because they spent time talking to young people and you just could not prise them away because they were so keen to make sure that
11:03 am
they were so keen to make sure that they spoke to everyone that was there on the day. you have been chancellor of demand for university for a couple of years now, have you spoken to the young people there about this, are they engaged in it? i have not had a chance to be up there around the wedding but i have been speaking to them because i think it is so important to get young people's views. we had one of the demonstrative young students attend the service, and he is one of the law students and it is good to have young people. —— one of the de montfort students. the theme was to have young people's voices so to see them there on the day... of course we invite all of our students, to make sure that they're represented at all times. hopefully in the future we can move on from this being a question, but how important do you think it is that we are seeing the first biracial member of the royal family? they have had a
11:04 am
black queen before, that was back in 1750 something so it is not the first time. but i think we need to move away from always talking about people's colour we need to talk about who the person is, their background, for me that is what is important. if we don't start moving and doing that, the race issue, which is important, we do need to make sure we address it but at the same time, we need to look at the person and we need to make sure that we welcome them for who they are. baroness lawrence, thank you so much, so lovely to see you. it is just a few minutes after 11 o'clock. pretty sure wedding parties are getting into full swing all around the country, not just getting into full swing all around the country, notjust here! let's see how they are enjoying their... i don't know, is it an early start, is ita don't know, is it an early start, is it a late—night, who knows...? welcome back to los angeles, to one of the many parties happening right across meghan's hometown! as you can
11:05 am
see we have a marvellous crowd here! they have been loving watching the arrivals, and as you have described, the breathtaking outfits and they we re the breathtaking outfits and they were fascinated as george clooney arrived and amal and james corden got a big cheerfrom the los angeles crowd here! earlieri got a big cheerfrom the los angeles crowd here! earlier i spoke with debbie, who founded and was the principle of the school which meghan went two for nine years, the hollywood schoolhouse. i am joined now by emmanuelle, the director of drama at st francis school, meghan, of course, and actress and you gave her herfirst lead of course, and actress and you gave her her first lead role? of course, and actress and you gave her her first lead role 7” of course, and actress and you gave her her first lead role? i guess i did that and it was quite surreal but i am really proud of our program at st francis to why was it what stood out about meghan? when she walked up on that stage she was just amazing right—of—way. she had charisma, the way she moved and it caught me right away so i cast her as the lead. do you think that

background in acting, do you think it helps on a day like this, nepalis, on a day like today, when it feels like the whole world is going to be watching her? well, you know, you are evolving in that character and so you use it as a platform, and i think she has that ability to reach out to other people. and using her acting platform as a way of promoting her advocacy in the past as well. thank you, you gave her herfirst lead role, don't play it down, she meets prince harry and goes on to marry him, i'm saying it's down to you! thank you very much! he accepts that! and join us later as the party here in los angeles continues! let's get back to alex now on the long walk. and they are not the only ones enjoying the arrivals! haven't we lovedit?! and amal clooney, we like

the yellow, doug free? lovely! meghan and anthony are on a double date, they've come from greenwich. you were just saying, they're so many young people here are, what about harry and meghan is so relatable from your perspective on? i think as a couple they're very honest. not just their i think as a couple they're very honest. notjust their relationship but their personality as well, the work they've done elsewhere, to give lily harry with the invictus games and speaking about the issues and speaking about his mental health issues, the honesty is something we can relate to. the fact that they've both had careers as well, the progression of the royal family which we needed. and they are a force of nature together, but what meghan has already done for young women is quite something? meghan has already done for young women is quite something7m meghan has already done for young women is quite something? it is inspirational, she has done loads for charities and for empowering women to believe that they have that voice and that it should be used. have great day. anthony, a lot of

people enjoy in their lunch but what is it like to be here in the middle of this fantastic atmosphere? is it like to be here in the middle of this fantastic atmosphere7m is it like to be here in the middle of this fantastic atmosphere? it is great, everybody‘s smiling and having fun, the weather is amazing. i'm worried about you, i think we need some suncream , i'm worried about you, i think we need some suncream, to be honest! is hotting up, factor 50, i think, for you! now, we know that prince harry's time in the armed forces was one of the most positive experiences of his life and inspired him to do something for injured service personnel and so in 2014 he founded the invictus games, which have gone on from strength to strength. two people very much involved in those games, victoria and bernie, welcome to both of you! thank you, great to be hey! victoria, looking you are, you should be organising the

wedding, with your cv! it is my day off! in 2016 you were the ceo, he was quite the tough boss, wasn't he? he was as though we had had it in 2014 he was as though we had had it in 201a and we wanted to make sure that we kept the brand integrity, so he was very much engaged and making sure that we kept that integrity but taking it over to america we had to make sure, it was the first opportunity to put the brand on a global platform. and of course with the distance, in london he was there all the time but when it came to 0rlando, clearly he couldn't be there. so he was literally ensuring that we were doing it! and then we came back to give him a briefing. bernie, you were a captain of the tea m bernie, you were a captain of the team last year? absolutely. what effect did the games have on you personally? for me personally, when i was retired from the army, if you like, i still felt like i wanted to
11:10 am
perform what i was when i was serving. having the opportunity to be captain of that uk... to be given the opportunity to stand up and be the opportunity to stand up and be the person i was... it is very interesting, because british serviceman and women, they are people who have a lot of stamina, people who have a lot of stamina, people with ambition. they've got strong characters, they like to exert themselves and test themselves. if that is taken away from you that is a huge bursts part of your personality you can't express anymore? certainly, some people just sit down and watch tv and become introverted, and the opportunity to step out of that really makes a massive difference for us. and just anecdotally from service personnel i have spoken to, you get institutionalised and there isa you get institutionalised and there is a sense from the people i have spoken to that there is a distance ora spoken to that there is a distance or a certain sense of loss — as the

invictus field that in your life to appoint darwin when your forces life is taken away, inside you have that big empty hole but it is that camaraderie, you just feel part of it and you prove you can do it in civilian street as you did the queen and country while in the services. you were both in toronto when meghan and harry made their first, you were both in toronto when meghan and harry made theirfirst, it appearance, it was billed as something low—key but of course everybody knew that it was something much more than that, it was a statement of the fact that we are together and this is very, very serious. what did you make of it, victoria, you saw it at first hand, was their electricity between them? yeah, and it is a great place for them to go public. clearly the invictus games is really special to prince harry and it is very much pa rt of prince harry and it is very much part of his life now. so the very fa ct part of his life now. so the very fact that that is where they became public was great, because everybody could see it first hand, and
11:12 am
everybody was enthralled already with what was happening with the games and this just added more sparkle thank you very much so what's next, is the boss going to be on the phone when the phone is over and...7 well, on the phone when the phone is over and... 7 well, it's on the phone when the phone is over and...7 well, it's sydney next, isn't it? october! everything is happening, everything is in full flow. they're having a delayed honeymoon so i wonder maybe, on their way... just an idea, they might take time...? their way... just an idea, they might take time. . . ? well, it is a great place to do it, isn't it? we're going to go to huw now. yes, indeed, we are approaching 45 minutes away. and the service will begin. and just a couple of months before midday, meghan markle will arrive at the great west door of st george's chapel. and then she will process alone along the aisle. and she will cross the midpoint of st george's chapel and then she will

some remarkable music. let's speak more about meghan. how does she epitomise the modern american woman? she said she never wanted to be one of the ladies who lunch, she wanted to be one of the women who work and thatis to be one of the women who work and that is very much the modern american woman, somebody who stands tall and proud of herself, very independent, works hard, which she has done her whole life, and has stood for something. she had principles since she was 11, and she saw this commercial that offended her for saw this commercial that offended herfora saw this commercial that offended her for a dishwasher liquid because she found it sexist. her dad told to rout the bash her dad told to write a letter and she wrote a letter to hillary clinton, the first letter of —— the first lady. a few months later the advert was gone. she has had to work very hard to get to where she is. there is something admirable about that in a human being. she gives back is well. she has this platform and she wants to use it for positive things. that

just thinking, before we see the groom in the best man, just a thought about this partnership. we saw it in 2011, it seems a very long time ago, the royal wedding of 2011. we will see the roles reversed today. what is that partnership telling us today? today we have the most modern royal wedding we have ever had. each royal wedding brings with it new developments, new trends and fashions, but today, outside the castle, you have got an extraordinary atmosphere, a bit like ve day with the stars & stripes alongside the union jacks. ve day with the stars & stripes alongside the unionjacks. inside you have got hollywood, 1000 years old castle with a 1000 —year—old monarchy as well. it is a fabulous blend of ancient and modern. monarchy as well. it is a fabulous blend of ancient and modem. the most modern? we cannot get away from that? i think it is the most modern and certainly the most modern royal bride we've seen. she will work
