mission accomplished when it came to modernising the royal family. mission accomplished when it came to modernising the royalfamily. all of these big events are platforms for reinvention and this is a way to relaunch to some degree, i don't wa nt to relaunch to some degree, i don't want to sound cynical but to rebrand as well, and i think it has been very successful. we are nearly at the end of the formal part of the day. it's the most important part for them, probably. the private party with their friends. after today, it's going to be very interesting in the months and weeks to come to see how this particular couple chooses to mould their persona and their element of the monarchy. this is an ongoing project. i don't want to sound cynical, it is not old—fashioned people trying to pretend that they are modern. they are not. harry is one of the most brilliant

communicators in the whole family. the duchess is a modern woman of the #metoo generation. this is not a cynical attempt. this is absolutely what they are. how you get out of this stiff confines of real life. the endless treadmill of good work and how you keep pushing the message forward will be a challenge. we have heard from kensington palace, they are very busy in the next few months. they will not be sitting back and resting on their laurels. they will be going full steam ahead to ta ke they will be going full steam ahead to take what they see as the mission forward and take it all around the world. remember that commonwealth ambassadorial role that the queen has given her grandson. remember the commonwealth symbols, 53, that the

it's been a beautiful wedding. he looked handsome. it's a shame he's taken already, but, 0k, fine! first of all, we love a wedding, regardless of who it is. secondly, this is a royal wedding. they don't come along very often. and i think we just get the bug and we need to celebrate this. this is a really good day. good day for the country and a good day for harry and meghan. the dress, yes! meghan‘s dress was universally admired. oh, my gosh, it's gorgeous. she just looked so serene and very jackie o with her beautiful collar. yeah, she nailed it, yeah. and seeing harry's face was amazing. let's go live to just a little way away from where i am now at the castle. i'm reliably informed that isa castle. i'm reliably informed that is ajaguar castle. i'm reliably informed that is a jaguar e type. i can tell you thatis is a jaguar e type. i can tell you that is a different dress. we can establish that. prince harry in black tie and they are off to

this way in england in mid—may. it really could not have been more perfect. that beautiful sunlight that has just gilded everything today. it has been absolutely lovely. that's a reflection of how things have been in this country. a lot of fascination in the world and in the united states. let's get a bit of reaction from the united states now — because this royal wedding has cleary generated an even greater amount of interest, given the duchess of sussex is from california, which is where we can join james cook from now. where she was born, raised and made her name in the entertainment business as an actress. there's a great affinity with the new duchess here. i was in a bar at about four o'clock this morning, as the wedding started. new british time. 4am in

california. it was packed. a british themed bar, the cat and fiddle. an enthusiastic audience there. it was interesting that they loved the dress and the romance of the ceremony but what was particularly interesting was their reaction to that sermon, that incredible sermon. there was a bit of a division in the room. some people in the bar were cheering and calling out and shouting. 0ne african—american woman i spoke to was trying to hush everybody and saying "just listen". she knew it was a different tradition, this american spiritual tradition, this american spiritual tradition that the budget aristocracy wasn't used to. she was firmly of the belief that it would have touched people in windsor.‘ sense, do you think, james, in various parts of the us, it's quite

ha rd various parts of the us, it's quite hard for others in the uk to establish how well known meghan markle was. well known to a certain demographic, wasn't she? exactly right. to be frank, she wasn't hugely famous. but if you watched suits, she was a big star. a certain demographic were very familiar with her work. she is a huge star now and all the us networks have been covering the wedding. just looking at some of the reaction. the new york times talking about michael curry‘s sermon. calling him the pippa middleton of this wedding! if you know what they mean. the surprise of the wedding. fox news, president trump's favourite channel cleared the decks with a huge banner
7:24 pm
on the front page about the wedding. they spelt meghan wrong but they have changed it now. tmz the gossip website has been in touch with thomas markle, meghan‘s dad, who has been somewhat forgotten as he recuperates from heart surgery here in california. according to tmz, he found it emotional and enjoyable and said "my baby looks beautiful and i wish i were there." many thanks for 110w. wish i were there." many thanks for now. james kakko got —— james cook, who got up very early in the morning. very hard to see how anyone would have been disappointed, anyone who was interested in these nodules.
7:25 pm
after a bumpy few days with reference to the bright‘s father, all of that was put behind and forgotten today and it was spectacular in every way. the crowds here in windsor exceeded expectations. we had warnings of up to 100,000. the authorities in this poor english town telling us that there were more than 100,000 people crammed into the narrow streets here. we know that people were watching up and down the country. we don't have the viewing figures but it was a huge attraction and as we have just been reflecting it was a huge attraction and as we havejust been reflecting in many other countries besides. it all appeared to go off without a hitch. the page boys, the eldest of whom was only seven. quite troubled asia is, a difficult game to manage. now
