win over motherwell means they secure an unprecedented double treble. are chris froome‘s hopes of winning the giro d'italia extinct? we'll let you know whether he was able to fight back on stage 14. and saracens crush wasps on a big day of semifinals in both the english premiership and the proili. good evening. a busy weekend of sport. chelsea have put the disappointment of missing out on the champions league behind them with a 1—0 win over manchester united at wembley. it means it's an eighth fa cup final success for chelsea, as watched by our sports correspondent natalie pirks who is at wembley for us. it isa
7:35 pm
it is a very loud wembley as well, as you can see, i it is a very loud wembley as well, as you can see, i am it is a very loud wembley as well, as you can see, i am in the red and -it as you can see, i am in the red and —itis as you can see, i am in the red and — it is dead, everyone has left, but overin — it is dead, everyone has left, but over in what we should call the shared end, the chelsea and, they are celebrating the eighth fa cup win, pretty much all down to one man, eden hazard, who scrambled through a distinctly shambolic united defence. it was philjones who lunged at him, he got all of the man and none of the ball. antonio co nte was man and none of the ball. antonio conte was absolutely livid, as were the chelsea fans, they believe it should have been a red card for united, but it was a penalty, and they got the goal they wanted. david de gea, so strong all season, so often their saviour, went the wrong way for that one, pretty much
7:36 pm
summing up the game. united looked out of sorts, really, especially in the first, really poor from them. in the first, really poor from them. in the second, they brought an lukaku and martial, missing the physical presence of romelu lukaku, but when he came on, still nothing united could do. they did have a with sanchez, who scored with a rebound but it was deemed to be offside. and with just seven minutes but it was deemed to be offside. and withjust seven minutes remaining, paul pogba, largely anonymous for the whole game, had a fantastic chance to level things up and take it to extra time, but he headed wide. that pretty much summed up his contribution. chelsea's 13th fa cup final was not unlucky for them, but the big question now is whether this win is enough after they came fifth in the league, champions the season before. as it's just in the league, champions the season before. as it'sjust papered over the cracks, or will antonio conte lose hisjob this the cracks, or will antonio conte lose his job this week? we will be watching with great interest. thank you very much, natalie pirks
7:37 pm
with the action from that game. chelsea are now through, they are won their eighth fa cup. let's get some of the reaction with wembley, starting with chelsea and gary cahill. we have a lot of defending to do, a lot of defending, and it pushed us to the very end, i—o scoreline was a gamble in the last stages, but absolutely superb all season, thibaut pulled off some great saves. we got thejob thibaut pulled off some great saves. we got the job done, that man thibaut pulled off some great saves. we got thejob done, that man eden, with the penalty. what does it mean to you as captain, picking up the trophy in a few minutes' time? do you know what, a dream come true, the first one as captain at the club. last year, we all knowjohn was the captain, but he let me get the armband and let me pick the trophy up in the premier league. but
7:38 pm
this is extra special for me. i am delighted that i have won these competitions, i didn't play in 2012, this one is extra special to play in. from a selfish point of view, it is not the same when you have not played, put everything on the pitch. your manager played, put everything on the pitch. youi’ manager was played, put everything on the pitch. your manager was celebrating, do you wa nt your manager was celebrating, do you want him to stay? we needed to achieve this goalfor want him to stay? we needed to achieve this goal for everybody, no matter what happens in the future, but we're not in control of that, i am sure they make the best decision for him and his family and the club, who knows what'll happen? it is important won the trophy, for us and the staff. and the manager and the fans. quite difficult to know what you say, what people write, because i can imagine, if my team played like chelsea did, i can imagine what everybody was saying. so i am quite curious. but you know, at this
7:39 pm
moment i am on holiday, i gave everything i could, i know the players gave everything, it was a bit hard for us to play against a team that defend with nine players. you need that presence in the box that we didn't have for a long time. but we did everything, we tried absolutely everything. now, to unprecedented success in scotland. their showpiece event took place today too, with the scottish cup final between celtic and big underdogs motherwell. the match went as many would have predicted. a 2—0 win for celtic makes them the first scottish side to win a treble of domestic trophies for successive seasons. chris mclaughlin reports from hampden park. well, celtic ordered a double treble and here in the glasgow sunshine at hampden park it was duly delivered. they were the clear favourites at the start of the game and to be honest they never once looked like losing.
7:40 pm
what about this for a way to take the lead? callum mcgregor always finds a big goal on big games. a sensational strike after ten minutes. they doubled the lead midway through the first half as the roof threatened to fall in on motherwell. in the second half, the crossbar prevented a fightback as scottish football was getting ready for history makers. even the referee and his assistant. then the party. a group of players used to celebrating, but this was unique. the question is, how do they top this, and who can possibly stop them? i'm so happy for everyone involved. the players, staff, supporters. it's an incredible achievement by everyone. i think we thoroughly deserved it. motherwell have had a great season, getting to two cup finals,
7:41 pm
stephen has done a brilliantjob. but today i thought we were fantastic. we could have been cleaner with the passing but the boys were absolutely brilliant and i'm so happy for everyone. i said to the players before the game, this is a chance for you to make your own history. we've had some brilliant achievements, but to win today is going to live with you and the families for ever, and the supporters. well, let's head to glasgow now where celtic are already out on the streets showing the silverware off to their fans. bbc scotland's david currie is in attendance. david, the party has started. yes, but you have missed the party at celtic park! most of the

supporters just melting off into the glasgow evening to continue their celebrations at the pubs and clubs around the city and elsewhere in the west of scotland and further afield, and probably in their own homes too. thousands of them here not so long ago to welcome their favourites back from hampden park, the team travelling by open top bus just up the celtic way to the stadium, where they were addressed by captain scott brown and brendan rodgers. he said although they have won back—to—back clea n swee p although they have won back—to—back clean sweep of domestic trophies in scotland, the double treble, he said to his fans, there is plenty more work to be done, and next on the agenda is qualifying for the champions league group stage, and then on to defend the treble next season, and what would be even more unprecedented, if that is a thing, a treble treble, or perhaps more grammatically correct a triple treble. but the supporters are drifting off into the glasgow night,
7:43 pm
but the celebrations will continue. thank you very much, i feel deflated having missed out on the celebrations, never mind! italian giantsjuventus said a fond farewell to one of their greatest ever players, gianluigi buffon today as he played his final home game for the club. the fans made their feelings known with the 2006 world cup winner given a rapturous reception before their match with chievo verona. buffon played his part, helping this year's serie a champions to a 2—1win on the day. he didn't complete the match, though, given a guard of honour from his teammates, as he was replaced in the second half. a sad moment for the fans and for his family as well, who watched on from the stands as a similarly tearful buffon waved fans goodbye before leading the trophy celebrations at the allianz stadium. to rugby union now, where the sport is building toward its own finale, in both the english premiership and the pro 1a.
7:44 pm
the first of the play—off semifinals saw saracens dominate wasps, running out 57—33 winners to reach a fourth premiership final in five years. it was watched at allianz park by chrisjones. this will go down as one of the great premiership semifinals, with saracens winning by an extraordinary 57—83. they came storming out of the blocks and scored two tries. when chris wyles crossed narrowly into the second half, it looked like a thrashing but wasps came back and scored five tries of their own. an exceptional performance by owen farrell, the new england captain, he kicked 20s and points and was man of the match. saracens march on to twickenham. will fraser, double winner with saracens in 2017. an unbelievable performance. as a spectacle and advertisement for premiership rugby, it couldn't have gone better. we had the running rugby and the tries. some of the rugby played
7:45 pm
was through the roof. the big thing is conceding 33 points, and how we back this up into the biggest game of the year. we know what a player 0wen farrell is for club, country and the british lions but he's done it again. he has been nominated as world player of the year for two years in a row at his tender age. he has all the credentials. he was phenomenal. his kicking, his attacking rugby, his physicality in defence, making turnovers. he has got the all—round game. if you can do that in the final, it will go some way to securing the final. yes, defending champions exeter are into next weekend's premiership final at twickenham by virtue of an equally impressive 36—5 win over newcastle falcons. alex gulrajani watched the action. year running out as champions,
7:46 pm
would exiter make it two? they haven't been this far since winning the title 20 years ago. the chances of another one started to slip away early. simple mistakes went punished by the referee. the scoreboard ticking overfor the chiefs. there was more bad news for the falcons, as scott wilson left the pitch injured. exeter made it count with the extra man making all the difference. the gap continued to grow with more penalties until alex tait put newcastle finally on the board. for the next two plays, it is summed up their days. toby flood's conversion charged down and then tait slipped up with a third try ready and waiting. exeter made no such errors and will be looking for the same again in the finale next weekend. in today's pro 1a semifinal,
7:47 pm
there was an incredibly close match between munter and leinster. jack conan gave leinster an early lead before good play from simon zebo allowed munster to reduce the deficit through keith earls' score. but two penalties from ross byrne and another from joey carbery gave leinster an eight—point lead. munster scored a late consolation try, but it's leinster who will play scarlets in next weekend's showpiece final in dublin. 16—15 the final score. also coming up in the programme: british rider cal crutchlow has a big spill in qualifying ahead of tomorrow's french motogp at le mans. and rugby league's magic weekend is even playing tricks on the eyesight of the officials. seeing is believing at st james' park. the first two weeks of the giro d'italia have not gone the way that chris froome had hoped,
7:48 pm
but today he had his first stage win in the event. froome is now up to fifth overall and says he will keep racing to the finish in the hope of becoming the first briton to win the race. nick parrot reports. chris froome wants to win the giro d'italia to complete a hat—trick of grand tours. but his chances have been going downhill since day one, and he started behind simon yates. in pink, the 25—year—old has been leading for eight days, and it was vital to attack mount zoncolan, one of the toughest climbs in europe. chris froome had to fight off spectators before challenging his rivals. a well—timed spurt of pace left most of them behind, but he still couldn't escape the fans or yates. a final lung—bursting effort was enough to claim his first win in a stage on the giro. yates increased his advantage over the defending champion
7:49 pm
to almost a minute and a half. a britain could still win this race, but not the one that everyone expected. british rider cal crutchlow has been taken to hospital for checks, after a worrying highside crash in qualifying for the french motogp. crutchlow, who is currently seventh in the world championship, was flung from his bike on a double right—hand bend. his lcr honda went sideways exiting the corner, and crutchlow landed awkwardly on his back. medical assistance was quick to arrive, and he did give the crowd a thumbs—up before being placed in the back of an ambulance. if he's cleared to compete, he'll start tomorrow's race from 13th on the grid. it's rugby league's magic weekend — seven games over two days, all played at newcastle's st james' park. three games tomorrow and four today. kicking off the action, first
7:50 pm
versus second in the championship — a hat—trick of tries from liam kay helped the leaders, toronto wolfpack, beat toulouse 43—30. all a great advert for second—tier rugby league. apart from this. mark kerilla missed his conversion for toulouse, but both touch judges gave it, so the referee couldn't overrule them. it didn't affect the result in the end, though. then it was the turn of super league leaders st helens to put on a show for the crowd on tyneside. ben barba's try one of the highlights of a tight first half against widnes. 22—18 at the break, but st helens ran away with it in the second half — three more tries, including two from ryan morgan. widnes didn't score another point. 38—18 to saints at full time. then it was wigan versus warrington, second and third place in super league at the start of the day, and it's wigan who have kept up the pressure on st helens. they ran away with it in the second half,

literally in the case of liam marshall here, setting up george williams. it finished wigan 38, warrington 10. last game of the day is castleford tigers versus leeds rhinos. that kicked off at half seven, it's 0—0. lee selby says he wants to leave a legacy in boxing as he defends his ibf world featherweight title againstjosh warrington tonight. the welshman says he's relishing the prospect of taking on warrington, who's a leeds united fan, in front of a hostile crowd at their home ground, elland road. it'll be selby‘s fifth defence of his title, and he's already looking ahead to his next fight. obviously, i have got one eye on the future, and the big future for me is carl frampton. i know we have got a date in august, it might be august 18th. as long as i come through this fight with a victory, unscathed, i will challenge him and defend my title. i am on the right path to creating a legacy for myself. well, our boxing correspondent
7:52 pm
mike costello has been in leeds ahead of the fight, to look ahead to what should be an important event for the city. josh warrington has said in the build—up to this contest that there will be three momentous events on may 19th, the royal wedding, the fa cup final, and leeds celebrating a first—ever world boxing champion. there will be a crowd of upwards of 20,000 across town at elland road to watch attempt to make history. he will be played into the ring by the kaiser chiefs, led into the ring by the former leeds united captain lucas radebe, a hero of warrington's when he was growing up. but he will need all of that local further to help turn it his way, because selby starts as a huge odds—on favourite, and for the winner there could be another outdoor showdown later in the summer, in belfast in august against carl frampton. and frampton will be part of 5 live's commentary team tonight at elland road.

7:55 pm
i put the question to them, who wants to box me first? i reckon i can do this in the next couple of years, i can get this done. so unifying the division and bowing out as unified champion? that is the plan, world title in the next couple of months, i would really love that. i would love to have it here in leeds. hopefully, hopefully, it can be, and we can have a female world champion. still smiling, you haveare still got the grin hiding that burning ambition. definitely, still a lot of ambitions, a lot of goals i want to achieve, and that gives me the drive to keep on working. nicola adams. if you have been watching the news channel today, quite a big event going on in windsor with the royal wedding, not the fa cup! the fa cup was missing a man, because prince william was doing best man duties for his brother, prince harry. there were
