this is bbc news. i'm vicky young. the headlines at 11:00: prince harry and meghan markle have been married at a ceremony in st george's chapel, windsor, in a royal wedding that's been watched across the world. the bride arrived at the chapel with ten pageboys and bridesmaids, and wearing a dress by a female british designer. prince charles accompanied meghan markle down the final part of the aisle while prince harry and her mother looked on. meghan, i give you this ring. as a sign of our marriage. with my body, i honour you. all that i am i give to you. with the queen and duke of edinburgh watching, the married couple made their way to see the thousands waiting outside the castle grounds.

celebrity friends and family were among the 600 people in the chapel, while more than 1,000 members of the public were invited into the castle grounds. it's like being in a dream. all day it was like we were walking on air. it's kind of like wow, it's been a great day, the weather's been lovely. it couldn't have been better. and tonight prince harry has driven meghan markle in a classic e—type jaguar from windsor castle to a reception for close family and friends at nearby frogmore house. also in the next hour, we'll be finding how the royal wedding is covered in our review of the sunday papers. joining me tonight are martin lipton, the chief sports reporter at the sun and kate andrews, news editor at the institute of economic affairs. and in sport we'll have coverage of all of today's football action, including chelsea's win over manchester united in the fa cup

final. and in scotland, celtic complete the double treble after beating motherwell in the scottish cup final. good evening, and welcome to bbc news. prince harry has married meghan markle in the historic surroundings of st george's chapel at windsor castle. the ceremony, watched by a global audience of hundreds of millions of people, was a blend of traditional british pageantry, with a modern outlook, a mix of gospel music and hymns. the couple, the new duke and duchess of sussex, made their vows to love and cherish each other watched by family and celebrity friends with more than 100,000 people lining the narrow streets of windsor to convey their delight.

here's our royal correspondent nicholas witchell. on a day which could scarcely have been better, an american bride came to windsor castle for a very british occasion. in sparkling sunshine, huge crowds lining the long walk watched and cheered as the motorcade brought meghan markle to her wedding. in the car, meghan and her mother, doria ragland. within the castle grounds, the groom, harry, and best man william, dressed in the frockcoat uniforms of their former regiment, the blues and royals, had walked down to st george's chapel. the queen arrived with the duke of edinburgh. his first formal appearance since his hip replacement operation six weeks ago. at precisely midday,

and it can change this world. among the congregation was a sprinkling of celebrities from both sides of the atlantic. but, like any wedding, the day belonged to the husband and wife at the centre of it. in this case, the couple who will now be known as their royal highnesses the duke and duchess of sussex. the titles have been bestowed by the queen. the duke escorted his duchess out of the chapel. 0n the steps, lined by members of the household cavalry, they paused for a kiss. and then to their waiting carriage and the procession through the centre of windsor. they were escorted by the lifeguards and the blues and royals, squeezing their way through the narrow streets

in the centre of town. most people had been directed down to the long walk, where they had been waiting in the sunshine. it was a chance for the public to feel part of a royal wedding that had broken new ground. from harry and meghan and their preacher in the chapel, to the crowds outside, there had been a sense of intensity in the feelings expressed and a degree of informality in the way it had been done. tonight, harry and meghan, the duke and duchess of sussex, left the castle in an e type jaguar for a private reception being hosted by the prince of wales. together they undoubtedly have the potential to connect the royal family to new audiences but, for now, they will surely be content that they had the wedding day that they wanted. nicholas witchell, bbc news, windsor. friends, families and fans packed the streets and the long walk to get a glimpse of the new duke and duchess of sussex as they passed in their carriage.

some had camped out to get the best spot, many came in fancy dress for picnics for a very british celebration in the spring sunshine. reeta chakrabarti spent the day with the crowds on the long walk. pa plays "stop" by the spice girls. they weren't on the guest list, but they weren't going to miss this party and everybody was determined to have themselves label. —— a ball. elsie, helen and courtney three generations of the same family, devoted royalists, they think they have notched up nine royal weddings between them. i mean, we've done it before. we slept on the mall for kate and william. it is a really good atmosphere and nice to be with the family and doing it together. the camaraderie and community spirit, it'sjust wonderful, it really is, it's when britain comes together.

bobby, aaron and ash are members of the armed forces enjoying a day off in the sun. we see harry quite often, being in the queens guards, we see him in many occasions, birthday parades, queen's birthday parade‘s coming up. we also see him at different events in london. have you ever spoken to him? i have indeed. i did the security for the london marathon, we had a chat. got my picture with him. for 12—year—old phoebe, the bride was the main draw. meghan is american. she is not fully british and everything, she is, like, multicultural, and it's really nice, you can relate to her. it's really nice to have a change, that's what i like about it. 6—year—old rose had a novel theory about prince harry. harry's lonely and he was in the war. i don't know anything else! as people watched proceedings

to marvel at a fairytale made real. reeta chakra barti, bbc news, windsor. the wedding has been celebrated with street parties and gatherings across the country. families and wellwishers attended a garden party at carlton towers, near goole, in yorkshire, soaking in the sun in front of big screens that had been put up specially. there was beautiful weather, as well as picnics and face painting, for those who spent the afternoon celebrating at antrim castle in northern ireland. crowds gathered from early in the day to watch the ceremony at a specially organised live screening. the crowds on brighton seafront had a particular interest in the day, as they tuned in to watch the newly named duke and duchess of sussex tie the knot. many there dressed up for the occasion. hundreds spent the afternoon by the beach, in front of a a0 square metre screen. and it wasn'tjust brits in the uk with a special

interest in proceedings. british forces in afghanistan, where prince harry served two tours in the army, decorated their base with bunting and unionjack flags. a special tea was served, with cucumber and coronation chicken sandwiches, as well as a cake. hundreds of millions of people around the world watched the wedding, not least in los angeles, the home city of the duchess of sussex. 0ur correspondent james cook reports now on the reaction from the united states. it's well before dawn in the republic over the water. but the cat & fiddle is packed. they rejected the monarchy in 1776 but, for many americans, the crown never went out of fashion, least of all with this bride. here in los angeles, meghan markle is a local. she's like our homegirl. and i think that she and harry are very much in love

there will be more on the royal wedding ina there will be more on the royal wedding in a few minutes, but it is time for sport now. manchester united manager jose mourinho says chelsea didn't deserve to win today's fa cup final, despite their 1—0 win over his side at wembley. eden hazard scored the only goal of the game after being brought down by philjones in the first half. the united defender was booked before hazard calmly put his side ahead in front of the manchester united fans. the video assistant referee was used in the cup final for the first time to confirm that alexis sanchez was offside, whenjose mourinho's men had managed to bundle the ball in the net. paul pogba also missed a golden opportunity to take the match to extra time. it meant antonio conte won a first cup final as a manager, but with speculation over his future, it remains to be seen whether he'll stay at chelsea.

highside crash in qualifying for the french motogp. crutchlow, who is currently seventh in the world championship, was flung from his bike on a double right—hand bend his lcr honda went sideways exiting the corner, and crutchlow landed awkwardly on his back. medical assistance was quick to arrive, and he did give the crowd a thumbs—up before being placed in the back of an ambulance. if he's cleared to compete, he'll start tomorrow's race from 13th on the grid. that's all the sport for now. and in cuba, officials say they've retrieved the black box
