close to the mid- 205. maybe getting close to the mid— 205. light winds and 5un5hine dominating and it should feel pleasantly light winds and 5un5hine dominating and it should feel plea5antly warm. hello. this is bbc news with vicky young. we'll be taking a look at tomorrow morning's papers in a moment. first, the headlines. prince harry and meghan markle have been married at a ceremony in st george's chapel, windsor, in a royal wedding that's been watched across the world. the bride arrived at the chapel with ten pageboys and bridesmaids, and wearing a dress by a female british designer. prince charles accompanied meghan markle down the final part of the aisle, while prince harry and her mother looked on. meghan, igive
11:31 pm
meghan, i give you this ring. as a sign of our marriage. as a sign of oui’ sign of our marriage. as a sign of our marriage. with my body, i honour you. with my body, i honour you. all that i am, i give to you. all that i am, a give to you. with the queen and duke of edinburgh watching, the married couple made their way to see the thousands waiting outside the castle grounds. celebrity friends and family were among the 600 people in the chapel, while more than 1,000 members of the public were invited into the castle grounds. it's like being in a dream. all day it was like we were walking on air. it's kind of like wow, it's been a great day, the weather's been lovely. it couldn't have been better. this evening prince harry drove his new wife meghan, in a classic e—type jaguar, from windsor castle to a reception for close family and friends at nearby frogmore house. ryan reynolds returns in deadpool two is the wisecracking mercenary whojoins two is the wisecracking mercenary who joins forces with a team of

mutants who joined forces to protect a boy from the super villain cable. he was mark kermode thought of that in the film review. —— here what. hello, and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. with me are martin lipton, who is the chief sports reporter at the sun and kate andrews, news editor at the institute of economic affairs. many of tomorrow's front pages are already in. there's only one story in the papers tomorrow, and that's harry and meghan, with the sun on sunday leading with the already historic picture of the newlyweds kissing. next up, the sunday telegraph picks the same image but from a different angle, capturing the crowds taking pictures of the couple as they exit the chapel. the i describes the ceremony as "groundbreaking , " citing the celebration of black culture.
11:33 pm
a close up image of the new duke and duchess of sussex features on the sunday express' cover. the sunday times uses a quote from the most reverend michael curry‘s sermon, "there is power in love." "harry ever after" is the pun used by the mail on sunday for their post—wedding splash. and the observer, as well as carrying a picture of the happy couple, manages to write about brexit. so there we have it — a clean sweep of wedding front pages. let's discuss them in a bit more detail with our guests martin lipton and kate andrews. there is only one story in town, and that town is windsor. we begin with the sun on sunday. martin, as you predicted, there is that same image,
11:34 pm
the kiss, the only image that could possibly be. 0verall, what did you make of today? i think it wasjust a fun day. wasn't it? we are not used to seeing smiles on our television, u nfortu nately. to seeing smiles on our television, unfortunately. not only smiles. everybody basically seemed to be having a really good time and the crowds were terrific in the day was great. a clearly besotted couple, which is clearly what you want to see at a wedding. not everybody gets their wedding snaps on the front pages, but this couple will. it was really positive and pleasant. sometimes we should enjoy things for what they are, rather than looking to criticise and carp, which lets be honest, i do for most of my life. nice to not in that position. and what about a thought for those who are not what about a thought for those who a re not interested what about a thought for those who are not interested in this at all and have had to sit there and see this wall—to—wall coverage? and have had to sit there and see this wall-to-wall coverage? well, they could have gone to bbc one to
11:35 pm
watch the fa cup. there was other big news going on today. look, where you want to find the headlines about brexit or the government or what is happening in foreign policy, you can. that's still out there. the observer actually split their front page today so it wasn't all royal wedding news. but lots of people do wa nt wedding news. but lots of people do want to see this. we are not used to picking up the paper and thinking, there will be a great headline. it is usually doom and gloom. it is nice to have a change forjust one night. the star has the same headline, kisstory. they are saying this was an historic change for the monarchy. are we reading too much into this, you can see from the service, it did feel different to previous royal weddings, it wasn't as stuffy, and there was a celebration of white culture, marking the fact that meghan is from the mixed—race background. look, it was very different, it doesn't really change the british royal family? or when. it has been quite an august institution which has been
11:36 pm
going on for many years and doesn't adapt to change terribly well. there have been americans marrying into the royal family before, have been americans marrying into the royalfamily before, and it didn't entirely go that well. it was at somebody said about the consequences of the chinese revolution? sorry, the french revolution? it was too early to tell. it is too early to tell whether anything will change in the royal family. today is a seachange for what has gone on in the past. now it is the beginning of the real world for them. the moment is great. i think it would be wrong and rather premature battle of the last 200 yea rs has premature battle of the last 200 years has been thrown away and we are going to recast the monarch be. —— premature to say that the last 200 years. i agree, but optics matter. doria raglan, meghan‘s mother, sitting in the car with her and waving to everybody, i think that mattered a lot. i think that speaks to a uk that looks and feels different than it did even 20 or 30
11:37 pm
yea rs different than it did even 20 or 30 years ago. i think they are a wonderful example of that. the telegraph was reporting online that the prince of wales had his arm around meghan‘s mother at the reception afterwards, really embracing our and bring inherent to the fold. because she was there on her own. and showing that you can be family without looking exactly the same, ithink family without looking exactly the same, i think those optics matter. the sunday times takes that quote from bishop michael currie," there is power in love". his sermon really took the chapel by storm. he was the star of the show. there was something in the theatrics of it, he was revelling in the moment. he was certainly engaging and charismatic. slightly split views on him. lots of people listening on radio thought that it went on a bit too long. he did say at one point, we got to get your married. that was possibly the thing that defined it has a different sort of wedding, because it did feel a bit like an old southern preacher, really. it was.
11:38 pm
it absolutely was. ironically, despite the fact america has that separation between church and state, it isa separation between church and state, it is a much more openly religious country. and he was talking about jesus and talking about some very religious attitudes that he has, and i think it was marmite was on people in the uk. they loved it, orthey felt it was a bit out of ways. personally i loved it. i thought it was enjoyable to watch. meghan seemed to enjoy it very much. i loved the references to doctor martin luther king, really encompassing that black culture and a bit of the american culture, because meghan is american and she is marrying into the family. let's just look at the observer next. sioux people fell in love and we all showed up. —— two people. sioux people fell in love and we all showed up. -- two people. again, from the reading or the blessing of the speech, whatever you want to call it, the showmanship of the past —— pastor, again, you've got to revel in that moment. we all want a
11:39 pm
love story. we all want to believe that these things can be real, these fairytale things. because we live so much of our lives in shade, often looking for negativity. sometimes you just do need a bit of positivity, a bit of pleasure. the quotes that came from the wedding, it was just so eat and nice and fun. they were. it was interesting that michael currie's speech, while i thought parts of it were beautiful and it referenced love and fire so much, it didn't really talk much about marriage. lots of the quotes that have been pulled out are about love, quite rightly, but very little to do with marriage. i thought that was intriguing. the sunday express, so was intriguing. the sunday express, so in love. 128 page souvenir edition. in case you want more. and a lot of people world. this will be
11:40 pm
a lot of people world. this will be a news agenda for some time. as you referenced earlier, really, the story isjust starting referenced earlier, really, the story is just starting out. referenced earlier, really, the story isjust starting out. we've had this happily ever after but it is really the beginning. meghan has a big learning curve ahead of her about what you can and cannot do in her new position. that is going to be difficult. she has got opinions, doesn't she? she has voiced them in the past. and she may not be allowed to voice them in the future. it is very hard, for somebody who is strong world, intelligent, where of her opinions and willing to give them, to suddenly cut herself off at them, to suddenly cut herself off at the waist, as it were. —— strong—willed, intelligent, aware of her opinions. she is outgoing and used to being in the spotlight. she will struggle. to be imposing ha ndcuffs will struggle. to be imposing handcuffs on herself, i think... there may well be tensions. and the press scrutiny of them in a negative way has been something they have
11:41 pm
already experienced, but it will keep happening. it has not been an easy week. the buildup was overtaken by the ridiculous attempt by kensington palace to stop people imposing and getting into the father. hang on, he is the one selling the photos here. what is going on? and for a significant amount of money as well. the inside pages, i think it is the express, they have in doing a bit of... creative, creative... it is creative writing is what it is. valerius. somebody out the express has attempted to live read what they have been seen during the wedding. -- lip have been seen during the wedding. —— lip read. apparently there is a harry and meghan film which i think has been made in the us, very silly and very over the top, and it sounds like perhaps they have stolen part of our script. can we do it in parts ? of our script. can we do it in parts? you can be harry. of our script. can we do it in parts? you can be harrylj of our script. can we do it in parts? you can be harry. i believe meghan said to her new husband, it
11:42 pm
all went well, so well, didn't it? to which harry replied, yes, it did. it went so well. that, right there, is beautiful. fantastic scriptwriting. a bit like statler and waldorf there. we read double act, clearly. —— we are a. and waldorf there. we read double act, clearly. -- we are a. so, next up, we act, clearly. -- we are a. so, next up, we are act, clearly. -- we are a. so, next up, we are looking at the i. again, the kiss. those amazing roses. lots of flowers. they are saying here, 100,000 people cheering. of flowers. they are saying here, 100,000 people cheeringm of flowers. they are saying here, 100,000 people cheering. it is incredible, the people who turn out to this, you look at those people, we might not go and campaigns do whatever, but the fact that the people do this, it is incredible, that party atmosphere. weather helped. a beautiful day. all over the country there were street parties, people camping. the country there were street parties, people campingm
11:43 pm
the country there were street parties, people camping. it is a nice sense of ownership. it is ownership of your own history, and the royal family means so much to so many people in the uk, in the commonwealth. amazingly, despite the fa ct commonwealth. amazingly, despite the fact that in my country, america, where people decided to separate themselves, it still means a heck of a lot. you wanted to get rid of the royal family and now you can't get enough of them. yes, we threw all that tea into the river. this is soft power, not hard power, this represents something. they represent lots of lovely things. charity. this isa lots of lovely things. charity. this is a real love story. the reception tonight, which is all private, there isn't much coming out of out, not much information, but that is what we all want to hear about, don't we? it isa we all want to hear about, don't we? it is a wedding. it will trickle out. all their mates obama. do you think george clooney is filming it, secretly? my prediction is that drink will have been taken. shocking. i don't suppose there will be karaoke. we don't know. it is quite a large guest list. 200 at the
11:44 pm
private reception, 600 at the afternoon reception. i suspect if there are stories leaked they will be nice stories which were sent harry and meghan to be what appear to bea harry and meghan to be what appear to be a very fun couple who i am sure are enjoying their night. well, i think most people enjoyed this and had a lovely day, didn't stay. i am sure they will be having good fun 110w. “— sure they will be having good fun now. —— didn't have a. that is it for the papers to now. don't forget, you can see the front pages of the papers online on the bbc news website. it's all there for you, seven days a week at bbc.co.uk/papers. and if you miss the programme any evening you can watch it later on bbc iplayer. thank you, martin and kate.
