course armour wearing the leader's pinkjersey. there course armour wearing the leader's pink jersey. there might course armour wearing the leader's pinkjersey. there might be tough questions further down the line, but today was all about celebrating. to have won the three grand tours in a row, there's no bigger goalfor a professional cyclist, and to be the holder of all those jerseys, it's just phenomenal. i'm still pinching myself. with the grand tours of france, spain and italy now successively one, chris broome has broken records and broken his rivals once again. —— chris froome. a shock result on the opening day of the french open as defending championjelena 0stapenko was sent tumbling out of the tournament by world number 66 kateryna kozlova.

kozlova had never beaten anyone in the world's top 30 but tookjust 95 minutes to dismantle the 5th seeded latvian 7—5 6—3. 0stapenko just the sixth female major winner to lose in the opening opening round of her title defence. and only the second in paris in the open era a terrible day in the office by me, i made something like 15 unforced errors. everything togetherjust got mea errors. everything togetherjust got me a really bad result. after awhile, i was injured and i did not play for four days i awhile, i was injured and i did not play forfour days i played awhile, i was injured and i did not play for four days i played a couple of days before the match today, and that was not enough and if i was casual on shoes day, at least one extra day would help me a lot, but u nfortu nately yesterday i extra day would help me a lot, but unfortunately yesterday i did not feel i was in great form. elsewhere nick kyrgios has pulled out of the french open with the elbow injury that's troubled him for more than a month. he was due to play compatriot bernard tomic in the first round. meanwhile there was success for the number two seed alexander zverev. the german player had no trouble negotiating his first round opponent — comfortably beating rica rdas berankis in straight sets.

6-1, 6-1, 6-2. daniel ricciardo has completed a dominant weekend for red bull by winning the monaco grand prix. the australian started on pole, but was forced to drive for a marjority of the race with power problems as andy swiss reports. lewis hamilton, third on the grid, but manning pull position... daniel riccardo sped away and it seemed like a victory parade, the australian easing clear but with 50 laps still to go, his car suddenly lost power and his lead vanished, sebastian vettel on his tail as the field concertina behind him. at one stage the top five separated by just eight seconds. but they could not find a way past, including hamilton, who stayed stuck in third, as ricciardo brilliantly nursed his car towards the finish. the most spectacular moment was undoubtedly this, leclerc with an untimely brake problem which ended his and brendon hartley's race.

both thankfully unhurt. ahead of them, it was daniel ricciardo's day, and a masterful drive as he finished ahead of sebastian vettel and hamilton, a victory over his own car as well as his rival‘s. two years two yea rs in two years in the making, so i finally feel like the redemption has arrived and we had problems, i don't know how much was heard on the radio broadcast but we had a lot to deal with during the race and i think it was before halfway that i felt the loss of power and i thought the race was done but we got home just using six gears, so thanks, man. thanks to the team. we got it back. so i am stoked. the australian driver will power has won the 102nd edition of the indy 500 taking the lead with four laps to go to the finish. it wasn't the dream finish for danica patrick though who hit

the wall on the 68th lap to bring the curtain down on her 20 year racing career. no such problems for power, the 2015 runner up went one better as he crossed the line ahead of ed carpenter who started on pole with new zealand's scott dixon in third. and you can see just what it meant to power, happily pouring the traditional pint of that oh—so—thirst quenching milk in celebration. i was wondering if i would ever win it, and thoughts went through my mind jawing the month, because in my career i've had so many polls and everybody talks about the 500, and ike could not imagine winning a race in front of the crowd like this. this many people, it'sjust in front of the crowd like this. this many people, it's just imagine —— amazing. what an event. i love it. italy's francesco molinari

has won the pga championship at wentworth after a final round 68 helped him to a two shot victory. molinari had a share of the lead with rory mcilroy going into sunday. but three birdies on the italian‘s front nine, including this one on the 8th, helped him to finish on 17 under par overall. the italian had placed in the top ten at wentworth five times before this year but never won. and despite mcilroy picking up two shots in the last two holes molinari completed a second straight bogey free round to claim the trophy. i knew it wasn't going to be easy. there was rory, alex, branden grace, a lot of other good players, and as alex showed last year you can go low on your day, so it was never going to be easy, but i played well and stayed in the moment and i managed to keep control of the emotions and

it's amazing to come out on top. pakistan have thrashed england in the first test at lord's, rounding off victory before lunch on the fourth day by nine wickets. a spirited fightback from england's batsmen last night was ended very early on day four. the home side losing the last four wickets of their second innings for six runs. it left pakistan needing only 64 to win, which they knocked off with the loss ofjust one wicket. i hate the word inconsistency when i came in and that was the first chat with the chairman, and i said, i'll be going to get rid of that? and we've done that through training hard, training well, good routines, good organisation which they've never had before so to pull it together and the guys are responding together and the guys are responding to it fantastically. we are training to it fantastically. we are training to get our good and bad a bit closer. we will have ups and downs because this is a young side, but there's a lot of growth with these boys and it's just a pleasure to be involved with them because they want

sunny and warm. somebody in the south—east will be reporting 28 degrees, i think that will keep the showers going across a good part of the evening and low cloud will fall in from the north sea and no surprise when you see the overall set—up when you see the flood of pressure dominating western europe and around the northern flank we bring the warmth out of the continent and over the cold north sea and the moisture condenses and we form all of the cloud and it will start cloudy for parts of the british isles. eventually goes back to the eastern shores and we import more showers later in the day. temperature is not as high as monday but warmth of the time of year and as we move into the middle part of the week, not a great deal changes, low pressure over the bay of biscay and still tapping into warmth from the continent. the showers are more widely available as we get into wednesday and some of them still quite intense with thunderstorms

are bounding through scotland and eventually down into eastern england as well and the top temperature will be about 22 or 23 degrees and many into the teens. cooler conditions, well you have to go a long way to find them. northern parts of scandinavia, much of the near continent and we are seeing those temperatures above the seasonal norms, so not a great deal of change as far ahead as thursday which doesn't show any signs of changing so a lot of thunderstorms. towards the weekend we build in the high pressure which will suppress the shower activity but still keeping it on the warm side. welcome to bbc news — broadcasting to viewers in north america and around the globe. my name is gavin grey. our top stories: italy's populists call for the president to be impeached, following failed efforts to establish a coalition government. calls for change in northern ireland, after the republic overturns the ban on abortion.
