we korea. we talked about almost everything, we talked about a lot and we talked about sanctions. i don't want to say... we talked about a lot of thing, we really did but the big, the big deal will be on june 12th, and, again, it is a process , june 12th, and, again, it is a process, it doesn't go, we are not going to sign, we are not going to going to sign, we are not going to go in and sign something onjune 12th. we never were. we are going to start to a proses, i told him today we can go fast or slowly but i think they would like to see something happen and if we can work that out it would be good. but the process will begin on june 12th it would be good. but the process will begin onjune 12th in singapore. reporter: do you believe kim is committed to denukerisation? i believe so, he wants it to that. he wa nts to believe so, he wants it to that. he wants to be careful, he wants, you know, he is not going to run and do thing, but i told him to be honest with you, we have sanctions on, they are very powerful. we would not take sanctions off unless they did. they are very powerful. you have seen how
7:46 pm
powerful. in or way, you will see how powerful they have when it comes to iran, you see what that is doing to iran, you see what that is doing to iran, you see what that is doing to iran, so we have sanctions on and ata to iran, so we have sanctions on and at a certain point, i look forward to the day when i can take the sanctions off of north korea. reporter: did you talk about human rights today? we did not, no. do you expect to talk about them on june 12th i think we probably will and maybe in great detail. we did not talk about human rights. we talked about, yes they asked about sanctions. reporter: maximum pressure... it is going to remain what it is now. i don't want to use the word maximum pressure any more, i don't want to use that term, because we are getting along, you see the relationship. it is not a question of maximum pressure, it is staying essentially the way it is. at some point a essentially the way it is. at some pointa a essentially the way it is. at some point a a deal will be worked out. reporter: how would you describe the state of relations now between the
7:47 pm
us and north korea? think they are ok. i mean i think they are good. is it like the relationships we have with a couple of other countries? probably not. but i think the relationship we are now with north korea is as good as it has been in a long time. they had no relationship, under the previous administration, there was nothing, it was nothing. it was a nothing, nothing was done, hey, folks, this should not be up to me, this should have been handled a long time ago. this got to a critical point. this should have been handled many years ago. not only by president obama but by other president, this should have been done years ago. what is going to happen south korea will do that. i don't think the us you is going to have to spend, i think south korea will do it, think china, i think frankly china will help out, i think thatjapan will help out, i think thatjapan will help out. no, i don't see the united
7:48 pm
states spending a lot of money. you know, we have three hostage, how much money do they spend for the hostages? we are very far away. we are very far away. those places... we are going to stay with this, just hearing confirmation from mr trump that north korea and the us will be meeting on june 12th. the that north korea and the us will be meeting onjune12th. the advertised programme of newswatch will now be shown at 8.115 this evening. so let us shown at 8.115 this evening. so let us continue to listen in. japan does, south korea does, and i think china does, but thaw is their neighbour, it is no ours. reporter: you you were concerned about the meeting of lavrov... i didn't like it. but it could be very positive too. ididn't like positive too. i didn't like the russian meeting yesterday. i said what is the purpose of that? but, it could be a positive meeting, if it is a positive meeting, if it is a positive meeting, if it is a positive meeting i love it. if it is negative i am not happy. it could very well be a positive thing. that could happen. that could
7:49 pm
happen. we talked about it. we talked about ending the war, and you know, this war has been going on, it has to be the longest war, almost 70 yea rs, has to be the longest war, almost 70 years, right. there is a possibility something like that, that is more of an signing of a document that it is very important in one way, historically it is very important, but we will see. see. we did discuss that, can you believe it? we are talking about 70 years. we are going to discuss it prior to the meeting, thatis to discuss it prior to the meeting, that is something that could come out of the meeting, i think that is something that maybe come kout of the meeting. reporter: where is china on this? i think china would like to see a very positive result. i have a lot of good relation with as you know chairman xi, he is a great, he is a very wonderful guy. he is a man that loves china. however, he wants to do what is best for china. i think
7:50 pm
china and president xi would love to see something happen here. reporter: when you say you are going to guarantee kim's security, how will you do that? we are going to make sure it is secure, we are going to make sure when this is over it is over. it won't be starting up again. and they have a potential to be a great country. and i think south korea is going to help a lot. japan is going to help a lot. i think china is going to help a lot. that isa china is going to help a lot. that is a very complicated question, but you will see that over a period of time. reporter: when you gave your speech in seoul you talked about the bright. promise of north korea should it choose the join the company of nations but if you leave kim in place, can you really have a transformation? i really think you can andi transformation? i really think you can and i think it is going to be successful they are incredible people. i think it is a going for a great success, we will see what happen, we will see you onjune 12th, but i am sure we will see you a little bit before that, in the meantime, how is sarah doing? 0k?
7:51 pm
reporter: haves you discusses... i saidi reporter: haves you discusses... i said i think you could have others, wouldn't it be wonderful if we walked out on and everything was settled ? walked out on and everything was settled? i walked out on and everything was settled ? i don't walked out on and everything was settled? i don't see that happening but i see over a period of time. frankly said take your time. take your time. it is going to remain as is. but take your time. one thing i did do and it was very important. we had hundreds of new sanctions ready to go on, and, he did not, the director did not ask but i said i am not going to put them on until such times azerbaijan the talks bring down. we have significant sanctions on that, we had hundred, we have hundreds that are ready to go, but i saidi hundreds that are ready to go, but i said i am not, why would i do that when we are talking so nicely? nicely? so... ithink when we are talking so nicely? nicely? so... i think it is a getting to know you meeting, plus. and that can be a positive thing. reporter: what was your response to the letter, did you send anything back? i haven't seen the letter yet.
7:52 pm
i purposely didn't open the letter. i haven't opened it. i didn't open it in front of the director. i said would you want me to open it? he said you can read it later. i may be infora big said you can read it later. i may be in for a big surprise, folks. so long everybody. what is the next move on nasa, sir —— nafta sir? so long everybody. what is the next move on nasa, sir —— nafta 5mm has been a terrible deal for the united states, people are starting to see it. we lose over 100 well dollars a year with mexico, we lose many billions with canada, canada doesn't take, mine they are restrictive as to taking our agricultural product and other things, and you know, all of these country, including the european union, they charge five times the tariff, we don't charge tariff, essentially they charge fia times what we charge for tariffs and i believe in the word reciprocal. you are going to charge five times we will charge five time, that hasn't been done. no other president ever
7:53 pm
brought it up and it will be done now, so, we are negotiating, we are talking about nafta. i wouldn't mind seeing nafta where you would go buy a different name where you make a separate deal with canada and a separate deal with canada and a separate deal with mexico, because you are talking about a very different two countries, but i wouldn't mind seeing a separate deal with canada, where you have one type of product so to speak and a separate deal with mexico, these are two very different country, it has been a lousy deal for the united states from day one. we lose a lot o money with canada and we lose a fortune with mexico. and it is not going to happen like that any more. imean going to happen like that any more. i mean mexico has taken our car companies, a big percentage of them. and we can't do that. and look, the american worker agrees with me, obviously the stock market agrees because when you look at what is going on with the stocks, they are
7:54 pm
starting to see. if you take the european union, and you see the kind of tariff they charge, and then we don't, that is called not fairtrade. i want don't, that is called not fairtrade. iwantfair don't, that is called not fairtrade. i want fair frayed. i don't, that is called not fairtrade. i want fairfrayed. i like don't, that is called not fairtrade. i want fair frayed. i like free trade. but i want fairtrade, at a minimumi trade. but i want fairtrade, at a minimum i want fairfrayed. we are going to have it for our workers and company, you know what? the other side understand it. i think that cannot believe that they have gotten away with this for so many decades. reporter: canada and the uk are some of our closest ally, what do you say to them? they are our allies but they take advantage of us economically. i love canada, i love mexico, i love them, but mexico's making over $100 billion a year and they are not helping us with our border because they have strong laws and we have horrible law, we have horrible border law, they have strong. they could solve our border problems if they wanted but they don't want to. and when they want to, then i will be happy. but i think we have a good chance of doing
7:55 pm
some great trade deals that will make america great again, right? that is what we are doing, but america has picked up, we have made about $8 trillion in value, we are double the size of the economy of china. we picked up a lot of value, a lot of wealth, since i have been president. more than $8 trillion, and that is a very low number because we are talking stock market wealth. i am talking beyond that. 0ur companies are doing great. we are doing great. 0ur military is rebuilding, we have a lot of things going we are going to straighten our trade. trade is going to be easy and other countries understand, you know when i talk to them, they look at me, and this is enclosed doors not for you people. they say we can't believe we have gotten away with this for so long. it is like, you quys this for so long. it is like, you guys can't believe you have gotten away with it for so long. report rt
7:56 pm
what is on the agenda i want eve ryo ne what is on the agenda i want everyone to watch. we have such a great country, right now, at this level, i don't think we have ever been on an economic scale, you look at the numbers, 3.8%, we have the lowest numbers of unemployment that we have had is it 50 years? i think it is 50. 50 years right. so we the best, some of the best economic number we have ever had at a nation, and that goes a long way, and we are building something very special. remember, we are twice the sigh of our economy, twice the size of china. good meeting today, it think it's a great start. reporter: what is on the agenda for camp david. a lot of work, a little relaxation, calling a lot of the foreign leaders on negotiating trade. i am working hard for you people. have a good time. thank you.
7:57 pm
studio: so he is working hard for the american people he says, that impromptu press conference really coming off the back of a letter delivery, by the north korean envoip destroy with a message from the north korean leader, it went from a letter delivery to a two hour conversation. —— envoy. nice letter he said but confirming he hadn't read it. we will find out more about what was said, he also went on, to discuss the tariffs, and nafta, and his key point here, is that other country, the allies understand they have got away with it. for so long, and they understand why president trump has done what he is doing. more oathon shortly. first let us catch up with the weather. two distinct sides to our weather once again today, for some, blue
