well, england came here to nizhny on the back of a really encouraging performance against tunisia. today was when they needed to put down a marker, a statement of intent. gareth southgate vowed that his players were hungry, and today he found out what he meant, as they produced arguably their most memorable performance at a major tournament for 22 years, the sense that something special might be happening. england's world cup was about to hot up. with temperatures here it is exceeding anything they'd seen yet here in russia, conditions were meant to favour their central american opponents. but after last week's last—gasp win, england would now turned potential into the defining performance their fans have craved for years. they were braced for a bruising encounter against minnows panama, things immediately turning nasty in nizhny. but in set pieces, england have developed a threat of their own. that's a header from

it's time to update you on the longer term forecast, and whether this hot weather is set to last. the sunshine at this time of year is a strong as it gets, and there will be some high temperatures. 26 degrees was reached in the south, but they're monday the heat extent —— expands further northwards, and we see dark orange colours here indicating temperatures into the high 20s. the main forecasting is through the week will be where we see those type at higher temperatures. but the general trend is that it will be warmer with temperatures into the mid—20s. we have seen those mid—20s in the south during sunday, very little cloud further north compared with earlier in the weekend up for scotland and northern ireland, so it was warmer here. but it will turn cool again

across scotland as we go into monday morning on what was further south, because temperatures across the day had been higher, they will hold higher by night. but the humidity will be relatively low. it's a dry area of low pressure, but we pick up more moisture during the course of monday on this weather system. so i think that will spoil sometime a little that for the northwest of scotland, particularly northern isles, and it could thicken enough for the odd spot of drizzle, maybe get a bit of lowish cloud coming and eastern areas. so the highest temperatures possibly pushing towards 30 degrees will be in the south and east, but again there are some very high levels of pollen right of the central scotland and northern ireland, the peak of that grass pollen season. tuesday is very similar, the remnants of that weather system meandering around north and west, but it's mostly fair
