chris froome by one minute and 39 seconds. so what is the dynamic, is froome still the team leader? will team orders kick—in, to get froome in yellow on the champs elysees? both men spoke today. it is quite funny because everyone is so keen to try and talk up this rivalry between myself and him, but it does not exist. we are not looking at each other as rivals, we are looking at the other guys, the quys are looking at the other guys, the guysin are looking at the other guys, the guys in fourth and fifth, they are the ones that could put us under pressure. between us, it does not exist like that. we have been team—mates the years, makes for years, we started out cycling professional cycling together back in 2008. and our careers of sort of followed each other ever since then, this is an absolute dream scenario for us.
6:33 pm
right now, he has ridden a faultless race, from the very first week, no issues, did not get stuck behind any gaps or anything. i mean, issues, did not get stuck behind any gaps oranything. i mean, as it stands right now, g is stronger, he is in the yellowjersey. so, everything is a bonus and the longer i can stay up there with the main guys, great. it isjust about keeping those guys behind us, really. and not rising against each other and letting somebody else win, that would be the biggest sort of... hic up. well, not in tour history, but it would be pretty bad. we are in the dream position, first and second, if nothing changed between here and paris, fantastic, we have nailed the tour. do they really mean that though? and you can see more of that interview with geraint thomas and chris froome on the bbc‘s bespoke at the tour

that match. now, all this came to a head over the weekend when mesut ozil revealed the extent of the abuse he received, commenting publicly about those photos with the turkish president erdogan. it was a lengthy statement that he put out on social media. he said, it is about respecting beehive office of his family's country, not about politics. he said after 92 cups, he is no longer wants to work the national shirt. he says in the eyes of the german federation, and his supporters, i am german when we win, but i am an immigrant when we lose. let us get the german perspective on all this now from the football writer and broadcaster, good evening. these claims from mesut ozil could be seen to be very damaging, couldn't they? absolutely,
6:36 pm
the last thing you want to hear hazard german fa president that you not only have not dealt with this controversy properly, perhaps you have found the flame at the racism that mesut 0zil has experience. he is putting the finger of blame very much onto him, saying that in the eyes, i wish german when we were winning andi eyes, i wish german when we were winning and i was an immigrant when we lost. —— i was german. this goes to the heart of the matter. if mesut 0zil had felt backed by the german fa, rather than partly to blame for the ordeal that he in his words, he might still be a germany player. this case started with mesut 0zil implicitly endorsing president erdogan who is very much seen as the worst possible politician in the eyes of germany. this is a very sensitive subject, especially with the refugee influx in germany over

the refugee influx in germany over the last couple of years. because mesut 0zil was part of that meeting, never explained his reasoning, he provided an opportunity for all those who wanted to use this as a stick to beat him over with. after the world cup, the only name that was routinely mentioned was of mesut 0zil, who was put in a position where he had to explain himself, because of his actions, germany had such a poor world cup. he said he feels he has been used as the scapegoat. certainly german football, after any welcome, they need have a hard look at themselves, because they perform so poorly, as they go forward, they tried to freshen up to get some fresh players m, freshen up to get some fresh players in, these claims could be very damaging when they look to get a broad scope of players coming into the squad. yes, and it will not have

an immediate effect, but what will happen the next time someone other turkish background, we have loads of them in germany, 20% of youngsters have a migratory background, the next time they are offered the opportunity to play for germany, will they think twice? were they think i might be subjected to that kind of criticism if i do not perform, suddenly i will be scapegoated, i will be reduced to my other. i think that is a serious question that no one in the german fa has so fast as they contemplated. there is a statement today release praising themselves all the work they have done when it came to integration and social responsibility, but it is such a high profile case, i believe the damage has been done and this is going to take a long time to rectify it. we will be following updates on that
