going into their opening test match this summer but controversy over one of their selections means that emerged today. imagine saying in february that you would focus solely on twenty20 matches and one—dayers — only to find yourself called into the test team less than six months later. that's what's happened to yorshire's adil rashid and it hasn't pleased his club after he refused to sign a county championship deal with them. the england selectors, though, have defended their decision. moving forward with very clear, this isa moving forward with very clear, this is a unusual set of circumstances which we have discussed. moving forward for players to be eligible to play for england in the test team starting from next year, they have to have a contract to play red bull cricket. they need to be to make committed to the championship as well as test cricket. moving forward , well as test cricket. moving forward, it will not be the case that you can say that you don't want to play county cricket ground adil

southern france should have been trouble—free for the main contenders. while the terrain did not pose a challenge, riding in a large group of riders it is always hazardous. after winning yesterday's stage, he was brought back down to earth. running repairs allowed him tojoin the main group but 30 riders have failed to make it this far. the colombian who is fifth overall will be hoping his injuries don't end his race. at the sharp end, arnaud demaire won the battle of the sprinters to take the stage victory. thomas crossed the line shortly after. they say the probability of winning the tour rests with geraint thomas as tomorrow's mountain stage will be chris froome's last chance to get back into contention. so a big result drawing close for a briton on the continent but who is going to be making their way abroad for some europa league football this season? we're into the second qualifying round and two british sides go head to head as burnley

are capable of. and hopefully we can because if we can, we will be in the game and it is important to me. it's wales versus gibraltar a little bit later on as well as the new saints take on lincoln red imps. the saints won't be complacent though after they dropped out of champions league qualifying at the hands of macedonian side shkendija. here's the view of the managers ahead of their first leg... the winner of that one takes on astana or midtjylland in the next round so no easy route through regardless. elsewhere tonight... rangers and hibernian are both in action in the second round of europa league qualifying later on... rangers are in croatia to take on osijek while hibs hosts greek side asteras tripolis. .. well, before some teams get into the competitive action — there is still the matter of preseason matches. manchester city and liverpool played some cracking matches last season all of them won by the mersysiders and they kept up that good run

the scottish football association says it's sorry — but that it didn't fail the children of scotland over historic child sex abuse. that's the view of its chief executive, ian maxwell, who was speaking after the release of an interim report highlighting failings in scottish football over the issue. our senior football reporter chris mclaughlin is outside hampden park this evening. this interim report was commissioned by the scottish fa here at hampden park after a number of cases of child sexual abuse came to light. it isa63 child sexual abuse came to light. it is a 63 pages long, it has 95 recommendations and it is a damning indictment of scottish football's ability to deal with the issue. it has taken over one year to investigate and compile and the report says the sfa's procedures are not fit for purpose. for that reason, children remain at risk.

lessons must be learned, it says, those who failed brought to account. i would absolutely offer a sincere apology to anybody who has been the victim of any abuse in scottish would all. i think they should take comfort from the fact that we have undertaken the review, we commissioned it ourselves to understand the lessons from experiences to equip us to be better prepared moving forward. as the s s hin prepared moving forward. as the s s h in the past failed the children of scotland? i don't believe so. i mean, asi scotland? i don't believe so. i mean, as i said, the poll looked at what happened previously and what lessons could be learned and how we would drag our association forward. it is important to be aware of what happened in the past but it is important that we understand what we are in the present and where we are going. the past though is painful. peter suffered years of sexual abuse

at the hands of an s s h official. peter suffered years of abuse at the hands of sfa officials. his victims can only wonder what if? if those recommendations had been in place way back then, could have prevented what happened to you? absolutely. and if the sfa and the other clubs in scotland do not act on these recommendations, what could happen to other peoples children? so how many more victims are out there? and does it remain a problem? we in the review believe that the vast majority of people who have been affected by this have still not come forward. why do i say that? because a lot of the people who did come

will top pool b and have guaranteed their place in the quarterfinals. england face ireland this sunday to determine where they will finish in the group. it is an absolute dream experience. we were pinching ourselves for a couple of days anyway but it is brilliant for us. it wasn't outside the realms of possibility for this team. we came here with the belief, we did our homework and played a lot of the teams in our pool before and knew we could get a result. it is an unbelievable experience. earlier, spain dominated south africa in their second group game of the tournament. two first—quarter goals started the upset. south africa only got a look—in in the third quarter, pulling one back, but the spanish side was unstoppable — it finished 7—1. it moves them up to third in their pool and leaves the south africans facing an uphill battle to qualify for the quarterfinals.
