that's after she beat the former french open winner jelena ostapeko in the first round in montreal last night. the level of violence against women and girls in sport needs to be given "urgent attention." researchers studying gender—based violence in sport say it remains unknown how widespread the problem is and are calling on worldwide sporting bodies to take action. katie falkingham explained to me earlier some of the findings of the report. this report was commissioned by the international working group for women and sport. they asked a team of international researchers to look at how the landscape of sport is for women and girls at the moment. it is research that happens every four yea rs research that happens every four years and the latest one look at a wide range of issues from participation to leadership, to media coverage and in particular

gender—based violence in sport. it found that there there has been progress over the last four years. organisations had made a difference since the last. 90% of the third said they had not implemented policies on the issue since then. —— 19% of the third. it shows there is still a long way to go. research still a long way to go. research still do not know the prevalence of gender—based violence in sport. it is about getting that research to try to ascertain the prevalence of the issue. i spoke to professor elizabeth pike and she explained exactly what gender—based violence is. it is violence directed against anybody on the basis of their agenda all violence that is disproportionately pointed to a
