result of ben stokes‘ colourful and controversial career. it will result of ben stokes' colourful and controversial career. it will be breathing a huge sigh of relief tonight's, as will those at the top of the english game. the last seven working days has seen him turning up here with his wife and his agent neil fairbrother and his lawyers... as the not guilty verdict was read out he closed his eyes with relief, his wife cried. this is a case that has raised a number of questions huddlestone made no comment as he left court, he allowed his lawyer paul lunt to do the talking for him train his intervention that night has already cost then the england vice captaincy, his place on an ashes tour and his place in a number

of other england matches. the past 11 months have served to highlight to them just how highly he values his position as an england representative both in terms of the privilege that role entails and the responsibilities that accompany it. now that the trial is over he is keen to get back to cricket. this is a case that has already proved very costly for ben stokes, in the wake of the incident he had to sit out the ashes series in australia last winter, he lost a luke wood a contract with a sponsor. now, he has since been brought into the england fold, he started the first test victory over india but then he had to sit out the second. within about aan to sit out the second. within about a an hourof to sit out the second. within about a an hour of the verdict being announced, the ecb issued a statement in which they confirmed that stokes had been reinstated for the squad for the third test match which starts on saturday at trent bridge against india. it is feasible that he could in fact be playing in
6:35 pm
that he could in fact be playing in that but this is not necessarily the end of the saga, because a cricket disciplinary commission in the next few weeks will hold a hearing and it might well be that despite the fact that he was found not guilty of affray by a jury today, they still believe he deserves a cricketing sanction pub or maybe a suspension. alex hales will be considered as well potentially for bringing the game enters is reputed. the couple will have to wait on that. this has come at a time when english cricket is desperately trying to appeal to a new, younger family audience. is desperately trying to appeal to a new, youngerfamily audience. —— into disrepute. it is trying to show that it into disrepute. it is trying to show thatitis into disrepute. it is trying to show that it is serious about holding up the values of the sports. the ecb has faced questions about weather or not there is a drinking culture within the england team. but this controversy above all others has caused them a great deal of trouble. they will be relieved that the jury found in stokes' favour today and that of his fellow co—defendant ryan ali, who the jury also found not guilty of affray today. stokes will

110w guilty of affray today. stokes will now want to put all this behind him and get back to doing what he does best, he is a star all—rounderfor england and with the world cup and a home ashes series on the horizon next year, this will have come as a massive relief. dan roan, thank you the joining massive relief. dan roan, thank you thejoining us. well, stokes will be back soon, it seems, but what about fernando alonso? he's bidding adieu to formula 1, maybe for just next season or maybe for much longer as he signalled his intent to retire from the sport after some rather barren seasons with mclaren. after 17 years in the sport, which brought the spaniard two world titles, the 37—year—old believes it's time for something different. he posted this on his social media sites this afternoon. you were not expecting me and i wasn't sure i wanted to get to know you. when i barely knew how to walk around towards your noise, your circus, without knowing anything
6:37 pm
about you. we had some good times, some unforgettable, others really bad. we have played together against incredible rivals. you played with me andi incredible rivals. you played with me and i learned how to play with you. i have seen you changing sometimes for good and sometimes in my opinion for bad. every time i close the visor of my helmet i feel your warm embrace, your energy, there is nothing like it. but today i have some other bigger challenges that people can offer me and this year while still driving at my best is how i want to remember you. i can only be grateful to you and to the people that are part of you for having introduced me to so many cultures, traditions, languages, wonderful people who have been my life. i know you love me and be certain that i love you, too. well, alonso will leave the sport as one of its most memorable drivers. he made his debut in 2001 forthe minardi team. at the time he was the third—youngest driver to start a race in f1. he went on to win 32 races in his time in his formula 1 career, sixth on the all—time list.
6:38 pm
he's had 97 podiums with his four teams, including renault, ferrari and mclaren. and won back titles with renault in 2005 and 2006. and has the highest number of f1 finishes with 240. so, alonso undoubtedly one of the all—time greats. britain'sjolyon palmer said driving against him was one of the greatest challenges. trying to raise with him was very, very tough, he would never ever give up very tough, he would never ever give up in very tough, he would never ever give upina very tough, he would never ever give up in a bit of real to we would a lwa ys up in a bit of real to we would always be trying to find a way back at the next corner. but off the track he was relatively quiet, got on with what he had to do. but he was just really i think well respected amongst everyone in the formula 1 paddock, especially his peers. celtic manager brendan rodgers has admitted tonight's trip to aek athens is their biggest challenge in champions league qualifying during his time at the club. the first leg at parkhead ended 1—1 last week. meaning celtic must better that

result if they're to make it through to final qualification stage. chris mclaughlin has more. the sound of lazy greek summers, in athens it is hot and dusty, all pretty predictable. for some in this city it has been a summer of discontent, something celtic fans are not used to. the headlines have focused on a managerfrustrated, he's going nowhere for now but the pressure is on. yes, it has been a very, very tough week. a true with aek at home, 1—1, which wasn't ideal and then they go to the league and they get beaten against hearts at tynecastle, never easy. and then, of course, the speculation around boyata, that in itself heightens all speculation and it forces brendan rodgers to come out to meet his players and tell them he's going nowhere... that will be welcome news
6:40 pm
to the players who trained at the 0lympic to the players who trained at the olympic stadium last night but defender dedryck boyata is missing, he says, injured. this man knows speculation about the club blocking a big move is essentially denying him a big player. these last couple of seasons he has been fantastic. and of course, at this present time it would have been great to have had him here. but he's not. and we have to put the faith in the squad of players that wants to be here and wants to fight for the results. and that's my focus, really, on the players that we have. the headlines back home focus on the celtic manager. here, as you can imagine, it's all about aek. in this football mad city there is a real expectation. the locals are confident, but so, too, their visitors. in greece, triumph or tragedy awaits. chris mclaughlin, bbc news, athens. tottenham hotspur have

apologised to their fans for the delay in opening their new stadium, but say it was "unavoidable" because of safety concerns. spurs were expected to play their first game at their new ground on 15th september against liverpool, but that match has been switched to wembley. sara 0rchard has the latest. tottenham's apology today has come amid ongoing speculation about when the stadium is going to open. i have beenin the stadium is going to open. i have been in dialogue with the club for most of the day and we understand that the —— the contract held a meeting with the board yesterday and spoke about critical safety issues which are preventing the current schedule going ahead. it basically means that if they hosted events now, fans and the crowd inside the stadium wouldn't be safe. it means that two more premier league temperatures have been moved to wembley, that's the september fixture against liverpool and the 0ctober fixture against cardiff. season—ticket holders have been told they can get a full refund for those

two temperatures. at the moment the clu b two temperatures. at the moment the club is hopeful they will be able to open the stadium on the 28th of 0ctober. that would be the home fixture in the premier league against manchester city. however, if the stadium still is not ready for that fixture, to change that one would become a little bit complicated, they would have to apply to the premier league for one of the following things, may be to reverse the fixture, change the fixture or possibly but highly unlikely, to change and find another venue. for the stadium to open, we know the following has to happen. they have to host if test events inside the stadium at a reduced capacity. but at the moment totte n ha m capacity. but at the moment tottenham do not have any dates for these two events. premier league fa ns these two events. premier league fans might not be too pleased by this story. a bbc study has revealed that more than half the clubs in the premier league could have played in empty stadiums and still made a pre—tax profit during the first season of the current broadcast deal. to help me through the details is our sports reporterjo currie. jo,
6:43 pm
jo, it boils down to tv money, doesn't it? most fans won't be too pleased? yes, i think they will be raising some eyebrows at this. traditionally in the past supporters going to stadiums have been one of the main sources of income but not any more, it seems, certainly in the premier league. tv deal money is now the main source of income. in this research from the bbc, it shows that in the 2016-17 research from the bbc, it shows that in the 2016—17 season, clubs in the top flight enjoyed £8.3 billion worth of money from tv revenue. it means that over half the clubs in the top flight could make a profit before they even sold a single ticket. now, you imagine some fans will be going, they desperately —— if they don't need our money where our tickets are so expensive? the chairman of the supporters federation says the clubs still need to value those paying to go through the turnstiles. if clubs are focusing entirely on the tv rights deals and not on the fans and then
6:44 pm
they're making a very silly mistake for the very good reason that we are pa rt of for the very good reason that we are part of the television product. if there wasn't a full grounds, with a larger way support and a good atmosphere, it wouldn't be nearly so attractive to the broadcasters. so, jo, attractive to the broadcasters. so, jo, which teens are we talking about? it's not necessarily the richest clubs who would benefit most? that's right. there are 11 teens on the list, the top five of which have leicester making a whopping £76 million profit in the 2016-17 whopping £76 million profit in the 2016—17 season before any fans bought any tickets. maybe not quite so bought any tickets. maybe not quite so surprising when you think that was the season after they won the premier league. and they were in the champions league that year. what all of these clubs have in common is that they all have relatively small capacities. burnley there smallest with 22,000. so they have had to
6:45 pm
find other ways to make money. the bigger teens, manchester united, manchester city, liverpool, arsenal, none of them appear on this list and they have much bigger capacities at their stadiums. they also charge more for their tickets so the big clu bs a re more for their tickets so the big clubs are still making a lot more from people going through the turnstiles. great britain are hoping for much more success at the world para—swimming championships this evening after the opening night of competition saw them take home six medals. this morning's action saw gb lay down a marker for more to come, as kate grey reports. it's not a problem, i'm so happy for maisie, shejust went it's not a problem, i'm so happy for maisie, she just went out there and did a pb and a new world record and it's amazing for the team, to be honest, to have her coming along. we have got such a long of strong s6s
6:46 pm
so have got such a long of strong s6s so it's really good for the future of sports. it is going to push us all of sports. it is going to push us a ll forward of sports. it is going to push us all forward and give us some great racing. it's been another great cricketing summer, despite what some may think, and england's nat sciver was in scintillating form for her club surrey stars today as they came past southern vipers by four wickets to knock out the 2016 champions. henry moeran was watching at hove. well, this was a game which really ebbed and flowed here at hove, the venue forfinals day ebbed and flowed here at hove, the venue for finals day on the 27th of august. the southern vipers out of this year's competition, champions from 2016, finalists last year. they will not be here on finals day this year's. that much we know the extra thrilling game against surrey stars. it ebbed and flowed, 148 was the target for the stars after suzie bates hit 82. it looked to be a good total, difficult pitch to score on. when nat sciver went along with
6:47 pm
sarah taylor, it really did look as though it could be the vipers clinging on in this competition. but two errors from dannie wyatt, one of them overthrows and then click the bales as she bowled at the start of the final over allowing a free hit and a six down the ground seeing the sta rs and a six down the ground seeing the stars to the brink of victory. it was enough to see the visitors home. it was between —— it will be between them and lancashire thunder for the finals day at the end of the month. lancashire thunder won the roses match against the yorkshire diamonds, who are also out of the competition. former world boxing champion tyson fury‘s comeback continues in belfast this weekend with only his second fight back after a two year spell which saw him battle depression and an anti—doping case out of the ring. he faces the francesco pianeta at windsor park where wbc champion deontay wilder will be ringside and should fury win, negotiations for the two to meet in a massive heavyweight clash
6:48 pm
in december could move a step closer. a warning of some flash photography here. deontay wilder is going to be ringside, are a lot of people are talking about that, what kind of performance to you what to put on for him? i'm not putting any performance on for him, i'm going to put a performance on the fans, that's it. me and francesco pianeta, me the best man win a. and hopefully that best man is me, i'm here to put ona that best man is me, i'm here to put on a show and a good performance. get back to the top. where i belong. pianeta has nothing to lose, does that make him more dangerous? he has only lost four out of 40—odd fights so only lost four out of 40—odd fights so i'm not taking him likely. i am going to give it 100%, i expect a great atmosphere. belfast fight fans are amazing. and high looking forward to fighting at windsor park, that's it, really. the broadcast

rights in sport have led to an increase in finances for many sports teens across the world. la liga has announced a deal to allow viewers in the subcontinent to watch la liga games forfree. i askedif watch la liga games forfree. i asked if cristiano ronaldo's departure had affected the product. cristiano ronaldo gave to la liga the best years of his career. and he is moving out and finishing an era of cristiano ronaldo playing for real madrid isjust a matter of passing the time. these things happen and will keep happening. what we are happen and will keep happening. what we a re pretty happen and will keep happening. what we are pretty sure is that the best players will keep wanting to play for our teens, wanting to go to play
6:50 pm
inla for our teens, wanting to go to play in la liga. that's life. of course, as you say, we have three of the biggest club rounds in the world when derail madrid, barcelona and atletico madrid. 0ther when derail madrid, barcelona and atletico madrid. other grounds like valencia, villarreal and sevilla town. but the increase of exposition of our clubs through facebook and other
