will be here with a full round—up of the day's news. first, though, our world: gaza dreams. sings in arabic hello. there's been no shortage of wet and wild weather across the uk over the last few days, but the outlook for the start of the new week is a little bit calmer. some drier weather on the way. lighter winds. but the days will be cool and the nights decidedly chilly. now, what we've had over the last few days is a strong jet stream driving weather systems across the atlantic, but i want to draw your attention to what's happening down here, way to the southwest. the jet stream bending a long way south, and a piece of it essentially breaking off. so it's as if we've lost some of the energy from the jet stream and left it in the middle of the atlantic. one other piece of energy,

one other piece of wet weather moving across southern parts of the uk on sunday, but then with that jet stream a bit weaker, high pressure is allowed to build its way in. we just have to get rid of this, first of all, this rain in the south on sunday, across south wales, southern england, sliding its way eastwards. on the back edge of it, across the southeast corner, could temporarily see some quite gusty winds, gusts of a5, 50 miles per hour. maybe a touch stronger in places. otherwise, it's a day of sunshine and showers, but it could be chilly enough for those showers to be wintery over the highest ground of scotland. 11 in aberdeen, 15 in plymouth at a push. but remember that high—pressure i showed you? well, it really starts to build its way in on monday, especially having an influence across southern parts of the uk. underneath that high, it's going to be a chilly start to monday morning, but a bright start with some good spells of sunshine. but i mentioned that the high will have the most influence across the south. it does mean that northern areas, particularly the northern half of scotland, will still see a bit more cloud, a bit more of a breeze and perhaps some patchy rain.

and those temperatures, no great shakes. still some pretty cool air in place. now, on tuesday, again, it's a similar day on the face of it. some spells of sunshine to be had. but again, more cloud into the north. this time getting to northern ireland and northwestern scotland through the day, with some outbreaks of rain, more of a breeze. and those temperatures further south just showing signs of recovery. now, as we move out of tuesday into wednesday, high—pressure still sits in place to the south, but we do allow frontal systems to push in across northern areas with some outbreaks of rain. and a fairly brisk wind at this stage. the further south you are, the closer to that high—pressure. the winds will be lighter. there will be some spells of sunshine. and with the winds coming in from the west or the southwest, we're going to start to warm things up a little bit. hull, birmingham, london up to around about 20 degrees. now, these frontal systems in the north will tend to weaken as we get into thursday, because high—pressure builds its way back in, squashing the rain away across scotland. we'll keep some extra cloud here, we suspect, the odd spot

of rain here and there. similar story for northern ireland, but further south across england and wales, quite a lot of sunshine. and those temperatures, by this stage, perhaps up to 22 or 23 degrees. now, as we head on into next weekend, look at the pattern in the jet stream. it's a long way north, and in this northward bend, we will allow high—pressure to once again take control. one frontal system looks like trying to push its way in towards the northwest for a time during the weekend, so that could bring some outbreaks of rain. behind that, we'll get into some slightly cooler air again, but notice high—pressure looks likely to return from the west. so generally speaking, as we head through next weekend and beyond, it will be largely dry with some sunny spells. a little bit of rain at times in the north. perhaps cooler for a little while, but whichever way you slice it, not as wet or as wild as it has been. this is bbc news, i'm lukwesa burak. the headlines at 10pm. us cable giant comcast outbids rupert murdoch's 21st century fox for control of the broadcaster sky,
