and system in place with uk sport and the lottery funding and all the support team, i think going for gold is the only option really. the father of great britain snowboarder ellie soutter, who died injuly on her 18th birthday, says he's campaigning to break a vicious circle of sports funding and mental health issues. she'd been hotly tipped for a medal in the next winter olympics. now her father tony says a foundation in her name is almost ready to begin funding other young athletes, to help them achieve their goals. juliette parkin reports. applause she had a massive drive to win and to compete, according to herfather, she was a very determined young athlete. ellie soutter won britain's only medal at the youth olympics last year. now her father is trying to help other athlete achieve their dreams. one of the things ellie was acutely aware of was how much it was costing me, and until these athletes are on the world stage, there is

very little sponsorship funding for them. back in the uk from his home in the french alps, tony soutter focus has become the ellie soutter foundation after the devastating loss of his only child injuly. she took her own life in the mountains when she was most at home, a number of factors, her family say, contributed to her death, but money and mental health issues were prominent. she became quite depressed last november when she realised that the bank of dad had dried up, and i could not afford to fund her any more. to give up an immense amount, and then to be told you can't carry on because we can't afford it any more, that is really difficult for any child to bear. the governing body for winter sports in the uk, british ski and snowboard, told us that funding is limited and skiers and snowboarders need to make significant contributions, often they said covered by their own sponsorship deals. the foundation

aims to help. it wentjust be a financial package, will make sure they are mentally in the right place to carry on doing what they are doing, if they are not, we will seek help for them. we will make them aware and the organisations aware that it aware and the organisations aware thatitis aware and the organisations aware that it is ok not to be ok. and clearly his daughter was not, but her deep anxiety was masked by her talent and confidence. being on the podium was really good, it has been my first multisport competition and it was amazing to have sown the people watching us and hopefully it prepares me for the beijing olympic games. this wasn't to be for ellie soutter but her father hopes through the foundation he can make that happen for others. ellie soutter‘s father, tony, speaking toj parking. that is all from sports day, more sport for you throughout the evening. nhs bosses have

news we have. is it all plain sailing from here? i'm not sure we can ever say it is plain sailing with this project. i am outside the current liverpool hospital, they we re current liverpool hospital, they were hoping to have been out of here more than a year ago but the problem has been beset by problems. eight yea rs has been beset by problems. eight years ago we have the collapse of carillion, the construction giant, which was supposed to bring everything here to a shuddering halt. a conflux pfi deal. since then the people behind this, the trust, the people behind this, the trust, the government, the remaining backers, have desperately been trying to find a way out of this. today they concluded the best way forward was to walk away from the deal and for the government to take over. they are saying this won't delay things any further, one of the worries about this is in fact what the local politicians have been asking forfor some time. the local politicians have been asking for for some time. they are saying that construction could begin again in november if everything falls into place. we heard from the

regularly, and i havejust walked up to the spot about a quarter of a mile from here and i can report it was seen again about five to ten minutes ago, so it is still there. that is causing a little bit of concern now because the wildlife experts that are on patrol out on the river with the port of london authority had hoped that the whale, which they think was feeding, would have moved on by now. the tide is dropping, thatis on by now. the tide is dropping, that is making them worry a bit. remember back in 2006, the bottlenose whale came up the thames further up, bottlenose whale came up the thames furtherup, iadmit, but bottlenose whale came up the thames further up, i admit, but it got into trouble and that whale was not able to be saved. the experts feel if it stays here there is a risk to its life as well. it is very rare to see a whale this far south. yes, it is. there have been sightings off northern ireland. they do come south from the arctic at certain times of year, but very unusual to see it this far south. i think the last sighting of the east coast of the uk was i think off scarborough, probably the furthest south one of these has been seen. this is the

beluga, remember a creature that backin beluga, remember a creature that back in the day before people identified it, it was almost a mythical creature, in fact there was mistaken, people used to talk about it as being a mermaid, the one with the bulbous forehead and a big sort of smiley mouth, human beings take to them because they are very popular, and those ones that are inbreeding captivity are always a big attraction, so it is a worry it is here. it is appearing fairly regularly, and those watching at say it seems to be moving fairly strongly. but the tide is dropping, you can probably make out the mudflats appearing behind me here. there is a risk it could get grounded and we are here next to the main shipping channels out of tilbury docks, which is a further risk. it is hoped through tonight it actually goes and goes back out to sea and rejoins others that may well be out there. let's hope so, thank

you very much indeed, robert hall. now a look at the weather with ben rich. today turned out very differently, depending on where you spend it. southern areas had a lot of sunshine areas, further north and west it was cloudy and wet. some pretty brisk winds as well. it is going to remain pretty mild. further south under clearer skies it will be quite chilly, maybe not quite as chilly as last night but some spot in the countryside towards the south—east will once again bit very close to freezing. the split fortu nes close to freezing. the split fortunes continue into tomorrow, a bit of klavan north wales, north—west england, northern ireland, some spots of rain, it should cheer up a little bit here through the day cost of north—west scotla nd through the day cost of north—west scotland continuing to see outbreaks of rain and a strong breeze. east of scotland, some brightness and warmth, 21 degrees in aberdeen and a similar temperature across parts of wales and england. all of us turning

cooler and fresh as we had to the weekend. you're watching beyond 100 days. president trump holds back on the fire and fury at the united nations. last year he set the global body's hair on fire with his defiant tone. this year the message was a little more subdued. though his belief in america first is clearly undiminished. there's really not much love from mr trump for the world's global institution. we reject the ideology of globalism and we embrace the doctrine of patriotism. even in new york, the president can't escape questions about dramas playing out in washington, casting doubt on the credibility of a second woman accusing brett kavanaugh of sexual assault. also on the programme... labour have six tests on which they willjudge the final brexit agreement.
