sportscenter, goodbye for now. coming up on bbc news next is the papers. hello, and welcome to our look ahead to what the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. with me are jason beattie, who's head of politics at the daily mirror, and the political leader writer for the ft, sebastian payne. many of tomorrow's front pages are already in. let's take a look. the i has an exclusive interview with thejustice secretaty, —— secretary, david gauke, who tells the paper that the former foreign secretary, borisjohnson‘s alternative brexit

strategy threatens the survival of the uk meanwhile leading brexiteerjacob rees mogg writes in the daily telegraph urging the prime minister to listen to mrjohnson, and back what he calls a super canada style plan. a warning that criminal gangs are grooming children who have been excluded from school, is the lead in the times. one expert tells the paper that the scale of grooming is on a par with child sexual exploitation. the daily mail reports that the details of at least 50 million users of the social media platform have been hacked by criminals. and this story also features on the front of the financial times as they say facebook‘s share price fell more than 3% following the announcement. the sun leads with the pain of take that star gary barlow, as he opens up about the loss of his daughter, poppy. a special investigation by the guardian reveals that

hundreds of university academics have been accussed of bullying students and colleagues over the last five years. and finally, the daily express reports that there could be the end to what it calls is the witch hunt against northern ireland veterans who serviced during the troubles. so a real mix of stories making the front page of tomorrow's papers. lots of different headlines. let's start with the times. jason, talking here about how exclusions from school are driving the rising gained crime figures. yes, it is saying that gangs are preying on people, school—aged children, and i think it is quite important, and —— this subject, but we have had a rise in violent crime. it is particularly
10:39 pm
being gang—related, which london has had about 100 fatalities this year already, which is very high. and this is looking at one of the reasons of it. it raises another —— number of questions. one question is why are so many children being excluded? more be done in schools? is asking off stead to look at whether schools are deliberately but excluding children so they can bump up excluding children so they can bump up their pass rates. whether it raises about people delete a questions about people is an effective way of helping disadvantaged children, but i think there is a wider point as well which is to look at the rise in gang violence, violent crime, this comes against a backdrop of cuts to police officers, cuts to peace support officers, cuts to peace support officers, and cuts to children's centres and other pieces of the

state machinery which actually do help in this area. i don't think it is necessarily... this is fascinating... of one part of the picture. one part of a very complicated picture about why this is happening. the statistics are serious, the paper points out that the metropolitan police in london have open is 100 inquiry into a violent death. no swift solutions, even looking at this particular story. know, and i thinkjason has a good point about what has happened to police numbers and the money within the police force i think that to javid, the home secretary has said several times that the police have bore the brunt of austerity over the past couple of years but we have now reached a point with that in there needs to be more investment in belize and i think this 22% increase in knife crime here —— last year is testament to that. one thing i was year is testament to that. one thing iwas taken year is testament to that. one thing i was taken within the story, the

comparisons to the child sexual exploitation scandals that have taken exploitation scandals that have ta ken part exploitation scandals that have taken part on the country. i went to telford in the past couple of months to look at what is going on there, and this is a precise example of this sort of story with a difficult problem. they sensed a problem, the cuts across different communities but a systematic failure across the police service, cost local communities, across mps, local politicians who are not willing to acce pt politicians who are not willing to accept a problem here. ithink politicians who are not willing to accept a problem here. i think it is great this report is coming out on monday exposing a light on these problems, but it does require a look at difficult systematic problems about how this has happened, why these gangs are preying on the centres where children exclusion are being kept and asjason said, why so many kids are going to exclusion in the first place. indeed. we can no doubt expect at least the home secretary suck early backside to javid to be addressing that at the party conference coming up. —— the home secretary says it javid. in the

meantime, brexit still dominating the lines of so many of our ministers. the eye has its headline, future of uk at risk from johnston, the latest attempt to counter boris johnson cell vote shall lead map that checkers plan. it is not the most ideal build—up to the tory party conference. it is almost inevitable, if you're conservative. we know that boris johnson inevitable, if you're conservative. we know that borisjohnson is on the move, fascinating in his bbc interview earlier today, but four times he refused to call out whether he will challenge theresa may. we know that brexit will feature very heavily, probably on the margins of the mainstays, probably trying to sanitize the debate in the main hall but i think it will be the only issue, it is a matter of obsession for many tories anyway to exclusion of anything else. and you now have this kind of irritant of a media
10:43 pm
scale, a kind of bursting boil of borisjohnson scale, a kind of bursting boil of boris johnson who's scale, a kind of bursting boil of borisjohnson who's doing everything he can to stop the prime ministers record to deal. david gauke, not a man known for going over the top, having a real attack on the ideas that boris johnson having a real attack on the ideas that borisjohnson has come up with for this canada style deal. david gauke is not a household name by any means, he is thejustice gauke is not a household name by any means, he is the justice secretary and often in government they referred to him and has to lead back out" —— uncock and the whenever the need someone to put out a buy or sell for him to go over—the—top and make these comments, it's hard to see how this doesn't end in northern ireland lead in the uk in reference to borisjohnson's per exit plan. boris is boris. we know what he thinks about chequers, he quit the government back in july thinks about chequers, he quit the government back injuly and have consta ntly government back injuly and have constantly said the same things over and overagain, he has constantly said the same things over and over again, he has written this 4000 word essay outlining his offers
10:44 pm
to chequers, we know he thinks now, but the key point is what jason was referring to in the bbc interview. everything now has been about criticising the policies, not the person. he has not said theresa may needs to go, he said chequers needs to go. what was interesting in the interview was when laura asked him several times will you challenge theresa may, he did not say no, and in westminster palace that means yes, i'm certainly thinking about challenging, but it does not end in the times. there is a story of alan duncan, a deputy minister for the foreign office who really goes for borisjohnson, calling him britain's trump, he'sa borisjohnson, calling him britain's trump, he's a non——— enormous chance are, nota trump, he's a non——— enormous chance are, not a team player, not intellectually sensible and he's saying he's talking completely as complete nonsense of the brexit stuff, so again every time we think the tory party will stop worrying about europe and the cracks being papered over, it alljust collapses in and thankfully we have another whole of it. i'm really looking forward to it. we are all looking
10:45 pm
forward to it. we are all looking forward to it. the daily telegraph waiting in with a different take on the borisjohnson latest interventions, because of course he has got the borders. jacob rees—mogg backing his plan. this is not exactly shocking news. it would be news if... brexiteers want to lose the brexit. we also know who really wa nts to the brexit. we also know who really wants to get rid of chequers is jacob rees—mogg, so i'm not entirely surprised by this. the canada deal is not perfect in any way. this would be a looser trade deal than the vision which theresa may has set out in the chequers plan. it has been raised as an alternative by donald tusk, but it is a bad deal for britain. it's only some goods, it is good services which is the bulk of
