yea rs. memorable england victories for many years. spain very rarely lose at home. in fact, years. spain very rarely lose at home. infact, it's years. spain very rarely lose at home. in fact, it's the first time they've done so in a competitive fixture for some 15 years. the first time england have managed to win away from spain since 1987. gareth southgate‘s young side had plenty to prove, of course. in the summer, they had that unforgettable run all they had that unforgettable run all the way to the last four, the first time they'd done that well in a world cup for some 28 years. but since then their progress has stalled somewhat. they haven't won ina stalled somewhat. they haven't won in a competitive fixture. they came here against a really inform spain side, and many people expected that the hosts would win with something to spare, and indeed spain started more brightly. but it didn't take england long to get going, two goals from sterling in the first half and rashford as well. back to the wall stuff for southgate‘s side in the second half and spain ultimately pulled two back. but england showed the kind of resilience and

determination that perhaps be blacked in the past. ever since that world cup run many fans have wondered how good this site really is, whether they can really mix it with some of the best teams in the world. spain are certainly one of those, they beat england last month in their opening nations league match at wembley. since then, england drew last week against croatia so they needed a performance here this evening and that's exactly what they delivered with a very young, inexperienced side in some quarters, but their progress under the gate continues apace. we had a really good summer and we had to show signs we could step forward and we learned a lot. this week has been a really good week, two good performances and. we tried a new system, we found out a lot about young players who've done exceptionally well. i'm really happy with what everybody's done. elsewhere on monday, iceland have been relegated from league a group 2 with a match

to play after losing at home to switzerland, and edin dzeko scored both goals as bosnia and herzegovina beat northern ireland to make it three wins out of three in league b group 3. but for all the results, head to bbc.com/sport. brazil take on argentina injeddah on tuesday in a friendly with manager tite calling for an improved performance after an underwhelming victory against saudi arabia on friday. argentina are still adjusting to life without lionel messi who's taken a breakfrom representing his country after going out at the last sixteen stage at the world cup. craig templeton looks ahead to a fixture that never disappoints. it's been billed as a friendly game, but when brazil and argentina are involved, that's really the case. the argentinians are without star manley are now messy, though, who hasn't played for the national side since they were knocked out of the world cup by france. they are unbeaten since leonel skill only took temporary charge of the team,

and goalkeeper sergio romero feels they must learn to win without messi. translation: it's important for our confidence and for the nation to know that although we are better with leo, we can do it without him. we have to find a solution against brazil. i think it's a beautiful game, and although oui’ it's a beautiful game, and although our team is very young, we will do oui’ our team is very young, we will do our best to present our country. as for brazil, they have less than a convincing win against saudi arabia on friday and manager tite called for improvement against their archrivals. but they do have their talismanic, neymar, who's been in great form so far this season, scoring 13 goals for club and country. he was also named permanent captain last month after the armband had been rotated during the world cup. translation: he's a leader and has his way to lead. i think he was a good choice. neymar has a big responsibility and we, the players around neymar, must share this

responsibility with the leadership of the group. today he was chosen as captain, we respect this decision and we will look to help him as best we can. this game will be a useful barometer of where the teams are at ahead of the copa america on brazilian soil next year. with both sides having a disappointing world cup, there will be a lot at stake as these two great foes do battle once again. craig templeton, bbc news. in club football, thierry henry took charge of monaco for the first time on monday. the former world cup winner with france won the ligue un title with the club in 1997 before going on to play with the likes ofjuventus, arsenal and barcelona. the 41—year—old had been assistant manager of belgium before taking up this position with monaco who are currently third from bottom after sacking leonardo jardim last thursday. the former sri lanka cricket captain sanath jayasuriya has been charged with two counts of breaching the icc anti corruption code. he's accused of failing to co—operate with an investigation,

because i feel like i'm a summer like everyone else around the world. i've also worked for that goal for a long time. it feels like that's been the thing that's holding me back from reaching my biggest dream, which is the olympics, and none of the pharaohs flag. the faroe islands is unique in many ways, not least its dramatic landscape but also its remote location in the north atla ntic remote location in the north atlantic and the people here are fiercely independent but as far as the ioc are concerned, it's still a region in the kingdom of denmark and although it might be self—governing, that's not enough for a place in the olympics. in response, the ioc gave us olympics. in response, the ioc gave usa olympics. in response, the ioc gave us a statement referring to their rules and regulations, saying, the prime minister told me it doesn't make sense. i can't understand it. i don't think it's logic. as i told you, we are a self—governing country, and we do have membership ina lot country, and we do have membership in a lot of international organisations. so it's a broken
