it took a year to diagnose imogen clark as epileptic and in that time she had to be rescued from the water. but five years on the teenager who was told not to swim has gone on to become the fourth fastest in the world. and when she won her first major medal this summer, she had another issue to overcome. it was just one morning i was swimming along and had a seizure at the bottom of the pool. there was no diagnosis at the hospital, theyjust called it a teenage episode. then a year later i had a lot of clusters, one really bad one in the pool where i had to be resuscitated on the poolside and eventually we found out it was epilepsy. when i got told i did not really understand, did not know what it was and it was hard for me because i thought, can i still swim but i just me because i thought, can i still swim but ijust went down in tears, and remember getting back home and i

was like no, why should i be upset, i will be this. if you wanted so much you can do anything. i had a lot of electrodes all over my chest and my head. it did not stop me one bit. i was in the gym pretty much every day and i did not care if people could see my wires, ijust love the training so i did not stop. imagine clark of great britain, a silver medal. when i took the silver medal i could not believe it, i was like, oh no, and then, i'vejust come second at the european games! i was ina come second at the european games! i was in a field with world—class athletes, the best in the world. and i'm just a normal girl from derbyshire. it is not nice to know all my family were watching and i could make them proud because i
