7:34 pm
of last season in this campaign. he now has four goals in three matches. sadio mane scored twice, xerdan shaqiri with the other. cardiff grabbed one, nothing more than a consolation. to round off a good week for liverpool who also won in the champions league. here'sjurgen klopp. yes, the goals are nice. but today it was kind of the right game because it woke us up, us and the opponent — gave us space so that we could finish the game off. so i am fine. and you've got a clean week — finally on top of the league for 24 hours at least? laughter my whole life i've always wanted to be top of league for 2h hours! so it's not too decisive, but 26 points are really good. our fans are being fantastic. they know we are up against it. we are limited. we only had seven subs today. so we are a bit short on numbers, but i cannot tip my hat off more to the lads. the lads have given me everything today. another day and we might have got a decent result. cardiff are struggling as are fulham

7:36 pm
performance than the watford game, which we did really well in recently. so a lot of positives to take. plenty of positives. huddersfield are bottom tonight beaten 3—0 by watford. one of the goals of the day came from roberto pereya, a lovely dribble through the entire huddersfield defence. well worth watching a match of the day to night. huddersfield replacing newcastle at the bottom. defensively today, this was not the performance which we wanted to have. we not often enough looked solid, stable, compact. they caused us real problems especially in the transition. but in the open play as well, there we were not aggressive enough and we didn't shuffle over and make it tight enough for them and make it uncomfortable enough for them — so they looked very strong. we have played a lot of games better than today. and we have scored three goals.
7:37 pm
we have played maybe on counterattack, and they had different chances in the first half to score. they were forced to make maybe two, three good saves. and after that we dominated. we were able to get with ourselves. but i think today we have many things to improve. leicester left it late to salvage a draw against west ham. having been up against ten men forfifty minutes,
7:38 pm
it took until the last minute for them to make their man advantage count... west ham took the lead in the first half. after the ball rebounded off the post, it was tucked away by the defender fabian balbuena. but the visitors then had mark noble sent off for this challenge — it was a straight red card. then it was wilfried ndidi who made it one all in the 89th minute via this deflected effort. 1—1 the final score. let's ta ke let's take a look at the rest of the day's results. brighton beating wolves at home, while southampton and newcastle finished goalless at st mary's. so here is the top of the table, liverpool top for 2h hours at least — with manchester city up against tottenham on monday night. chelsea are away at burnley tomorrow, palace and arsenal tomorrow lunchtime as well, whiel manchester united and everton meet tomorrow afternoon. and at the bottom it's huddersfield who replace newcastle. the two level on points. fulham make up the bottom three. sheffield united are top of the championship this evening — a hattrick from billy sharp helped them beat wigan 4—2. that came after an absolulte howler of an own goal meant middlesbrough and derby drew i—i —
7:39 pm
both goals were own goals, but this was the worst. jayden bogle totally misjudging the pass to his keeper. boro are down to second, derby in 6th. they all count, don't they? just two matches in the scottish premiership today. kilmarnock leapfrogged celtic into second — they drew one all with hamilton — one other result — stjohnstone beat st mirren two nil. and that is all of the day's football. thanks very much. let's turn our attention to the rest of the day's sports news. to rugby league where england got their three match series off to a winning start against new zealand — but it was close, just two points in it. 18—16 the final score, with a dream debut for oliver gildart, who scored the match—winning try. joe lynskey reports. few traditions in world sport catch the eye like the haka. it is new zealand's

7:41 pm
new zealand kicked their way back in front, but to settle this match england found something far more remarkable. he sizes up his man! what a try! what a debut try that is! oliver called it surreal, just being in the england squad. he was in as a late replacement. this on his debut, was the footwork he won't forget. it was the flash of youthful ambition that capped england's fighting foundations and gives them the advantage in a test series now set up to be one of the greats. joe lynskey, bbc news. unbelievable. seen a bit of spurs and i got over. talk me through it. does it happen as fast as we see it or is it almost in slow motion for you? no, it happens really quick. i wasjust sprinting as fast as i can. i looked up and seeing a fullback. trying my best to beat him. and i did in the end. we've got so many players out from la st we've got so many players out from last year's world cup so that is

marathon game — this hollywood epic — into some sort of context for you. a regular game of baseball takes about three and a half hours to finish. this one took a staggering seven hours and 20 minutes. the players were tired, the fans were tired, everybody was tired at the end. in fact when max hit the winning home run, there was a huge cheer. of course there was — from the home fans. but then there was a rush for the exit doors. because of course many of them had missed their dinner reservations in downtown la. they would have to get back for the baby—sitters perhaps. and what about — pity then perhaps — the poor boston red sox fans who had watched on the east coast throughout the night? they would not have gone to bed much before 5am. but the people we really have to think about here are the players. what do they do now after a marathon game? how are they going to prepare for game four?
7:51 pm
we play an amazing game today. one of the longest games i ever played in my life. 18 innings on a seven hours, this is amazing. i'm so happy. now we need to be back at the stadium in a couple of hours. everybody is going home now for try to rest for a couple of hours and back to play. and try to win the second game and tie the series. so where does this leave the series? well, it has made it very exciting of course. we're not going to get the what many people were talking about. the dodgers are back in it. but you have to say, the red sox are still the favourites to take it overall. if you look back though, in the history of world series, you will see that there is one team that has done very well when it has been 2—0 down before. and that is the los angeles dodgers. so they have given themselves a chance, 2—1 it is, game four, back here very shortly. he is loving it. absolutely. plenty

you down in a normal game of ruby. you can get the luxuries of rugby with the social components that rugby brings to it, as well as a very good work—out. and playing the game that you love, without having to go to work with a black eye or not make that interview. it's mixed — mens and womens, makes it nice, and all engaging sport. when i left school i went to play for a men's rugby club, and you have got people who are six foot five and then, you know, me who is five foot nothing. it is quite daunting. there is a bit of contact in tag, but it is fairly minimal. it suits people like me who are a bit more on the agile side, let's put it that way. this form of tag rugby was invented by an australian rugby league team in 1992 who wanted to keep players fitter in the off—season. and it is a focus on the shorts. mike, tuck your shirt in, please. part of the rules.
7:54 pm
tuck my shirt in? safety apparently. come on. but don't be loaded into thinking the lack of tackles makes it easy. it's virtually nonstop play — for 20 minutes in a half. may not have the tackles of rugby union or rugby league in this version, but it is so fast and so furious. after all the ball doesn't go to ground, there is no line to slow things down. it is consistently go, go, go. we don't know what's happening half the time, but it gives us a thrill to play and make tags and catch balls and score tries. there's a lot of different skills that you can bring into it. the kicking and the shoulder height. really good. having arrived in the uk just nine years ago, more than 20,000 players in league matches every week. and the pick of the players are added to the world cup in australia this weekend to play with men's, women's and mixed great britain teams. i come from a netball background so quote unquote they wanted girls that can throw and catch.
7:55 pm
jumped in a tournament team, won, and went from there. cannot believe it, it has gone from social in 2012 and up to this in 2018. maybe the gb players were saving themselves. maybe they were just bamboozled by my wiggling hips. eventually ijived my way through to put the ball down and score a point with my shorts untouched. shortly after that, i had never been so glad to hear a final whistle. that is it. i've never done anything as exhausting — the running, the speed, the mental taxing, the positioning and skill. just having a good sit. the australian world cup. at the beginning of the programme we told you we were expecting an update on former england manager glenn hoddle who was taken to hospital. this is what his spokesman has said
7:56 pm
in the last few moments.
