party in a first president's party in a first mid—term election since at least president kennedy's in 1962. there have been only four mid—term elections since 1934 in which a president's party has gained even a single senate seat. as of now, we picked up, it looks like, three could be four. perhaps it could be two. but we picked up a lot. and most likely the number will be three, you people probably know that better than i do at this point, because you've looked at the more re ce nt because you've looked at the more recent numbers. 55 is the largest numberof recent numbers. 55 is the largest number of republican senators in the la st number of republican senators in the last 100 years. in the last 80 years a sitting president's party has only gained a lot of total of total of eight senate seats. averaging one per decade. so if we picked up two, three or four, that's a big
5:01 pm
percentage of that number so in the la st percentage of that number so in the last 80 years, you think of that, only eight seats. when president 0bama's first midterm election he lost six senate seats including in the deep blue state of massachusetts. republicans captured at least four senate seats held by democrat incumbents and these are tremendously talented hard—working people that did this. indiana, north da kota, people that did this. indiana, north dakota, florida, missouri. we also woi'i dakota, florida, missouri. we also won two open senate seats in tennessee. i want to congratulate oui’ tennessee. i want to congratulate our great champion who did such a greatjob in our great champion who did such a great job in tennessee, our great champion who did such a greatjob in tennessee, marsha. and in utah. and arizona is looking very
5:02 pm
good. really very good. she's done a terrific job, good. really very good. she's done a terrificjob, that was a tough race and she's done a fantasticjob. in each of these open seats democrats recruited very strong candidates with substantial fundraising and media support. we were getting bombarded with money on the other side. in the house republicans dramatically outperformed historical precedents and overcame a historic numberof precedents and overcame a historic number of retirements, the most house republican retirements in 80 years, 43 house republicans are tired. i will say this, in many cases they were chairman of committees and they left because they were chairman, because the republicans have a rule that for six years and what that does is wonderful and one—way, it lets people come through the system and become chairman and in another way it drives people out because when the arab chairman they don't want to go and not be a chairman, you are
5:03 pm
the chairman of a committee and you are a big deal and all of a sudden you're not doing that any more so they leave. we had a lot of them leave. i guess you can flip a coin as to which system is better. the democrats do the other, some of those people have been chairman of committees for a long time. in 2010, president 0bama first midterm, by the most current account it looks like around 27 house seats or something and we will figure that out pretty soon. we also had a slew of historic wins and the governors races which were incredible. against very well funded, talented and skilled democrat candidates, and people that worked very, very hard, respectfully, for those candidates, like 0prah respectfully, for those candidates, like oprah winfrey, who i liked. i don't know she likes me any more, but that's ok. she used to. but she worked very hard in georgia. and if
5:04 pm
you look at them, in four governors races, crucial to 2020 and the presidential race, florida, iowa, ohio and georgia, the big ones, florida, iowa, ohio and georgia, cannot get much more important than that. they were incredible, they we re that. they were incredible, they were actually incredible campaigns. as of right now republicans will control the majority of governorships across the country. including three great women who worked very hard, governors of alabama, south dakota and iowa. they worked very hard and were very talented. by expanding our senate majority the voters have also clearly rebuked the senate democrats for their handling of the brett
5:05 pm
kavanaugh's earrings, that was a factor, i think maybe a very big factor, i think maybe a very big factor, the way that was handled, tremendous energy given to the republican party by the way they treated thenjudge republican party by the way they treated then judge kavanaugh, republican party by the way they treated thenjudge kavanaugh, no justice cavanagh. they expressed their support for more great pro—constitutionjudges. their support for more great pro—constitution judges. candidates who embraced our message of low taxis, low regulations, low crime, strong borders and greatjudges excelled last night. they excelled. they really, i mean, we have a list of people that were fantastic and i will point them out. michael bost, rodney davis, and the bar was fantastic, i went to kentucky and for the most part i did not campaign
5:06 pm
for the most part i did not campaign for the most part i did not campaign for the house but i made a special trip for andy bar because he was in a tough race in kentucky and he won, it was a very tough race, the polls all showing he was down substantially and he won. peter stoger of minnesota, great guy, he's new. he ran a fantastic race. on the other hand you had some who decided to lets stay away, they did very thoroughly. i'm not sure i should be happier sad. but i feeljust fine about it —— needed a very thoroughly. i'm not sure i should be happy or sad. media love. —— mia love called me all the time to help her with a hostage situation, being held hostage in venezuela, but mia
5:07 pm
love gave me no love and she lost. too bad. sorry about that, mia barbara comstock was another one. i think she could have won that race but she did not want to have any embrace, for that i do not blame her. but she lost substantially. peter ross come did not want the embrace, eric polson did not want the embrace, and in newjersey i think they could have done well but it did not work too good. bob, i feel badly because that is something i think which could have been won. john, another one, people who decided for their own reason not to embrace, whether it is me or what we stand for. but what we stand for meant a lot to most people and we
5:08 pm
have had tremendous support, tremendous support and the republican party among the biggest support in the history of the party. i have heard at 93% it is a record but i will not say that because who knows? we have had tremendous support. america is booming like never before. doing fantastic. we have larry kudlow here and he says the numbers are as good as he has ever seen numbers the numbers are as good as he has ever seen numbers at the numbers are as good as he has everseen numbers atany the numbers are as good as he has ever seen numbers at any time for oui’ ever seen numbers at any time for our country. but he's a young man so he's not seen that many numbers. where is larry? you are a young man, larry. you've not been doing this too long, but they are as good as you have ever seen. too long, but they are as good as you have ever seen. we may have, if you have ever seen. we may have, if you have ever seen. we may have, if you have a question for larry we will do that. but i want to send my warmest appreciation and regards to the majority leader mitch mcconnell, we worked very well together. we have been working very well
5:09 pm
together. we have a great relationship, peoplejust together. we have a great relationship, people just don't understand it, it's fine. and also to perhaps, it looks like, i would think, speaker nancy pelosi, i give hera think, speaker nancy pelosi, i give her a lot of credit. she works very ha rd her a lot of credit. she works very hard and she has worked long and hard. igive hard and she has worked long and hard. i give hera great hard and she has worked long and hard. i give her a great deal of credit for what she has done and what she has accomplished. hopefully we can all work together next year to continue delivering for the american people, including an economic growth, infrastructure, trade, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, these are the some of the things the democrats do work on and i believe will be able to do it. i believe we will have a lot of reason to do it. and i will say as a matter of business i was with some successful people last night watching the returns, so if the republicans, let's say we held on by two for or three, it would have been very hard having that many
5:10 pm
republicans to ever even get support among republicans because the always be one or two or three people that are good reason after bad reason for grandstanding, we have that too, you've seen that, you've seen that, ple nty of you've seen that, you've seen that, plenty of grandstanding, but certain races that many people you'll always have a couple that will not do it. that puts us at a bad position. in other words, had we that puts us at a bad position. in otherwords, had we kept, and that puts us at a bad position. in other words, had we kept, and this is no, i'm saying this for a very basic reason, it's common sense. it puts us in a tough position, we win by one or two or three and you'll have one or two or three or four or five even come over and say look, we're not going to go a long with this, we want this, this and less and all the sudden, we would not be able to get it in many cases out of the republicans hands before we centred on to the senate. and now we have a much easier path because the
5:11 pm
democrats will come to pass with a plan for infrastructure, a plant health care, a plan for whatever they are looking at. and we will negotiate. as you know it's been very ha rd negotiate. as you know it's been very hard in the senate because we need essentially ten votes from democrats and we don't get those because the democrats stick together. i do not agree with them ona together. i do not agree with them on a lot of policy but i agree with them on sticking together. so now we go into the senate, we don't have the ten votes and what happens? it does not get past. even if it gets out of the house it does not get passed. under the new concept of what we are doing i say come on, let me see which you have. they want to do things, i keep hearing about investigations, fatigue, like almost from the time i announced i was going to run they have been giving us going to run they have been giving us this investigation fatigue. it's
5:12 pm
beena us this investigation fatigue. it's been a long time. they've got nothing. zero, do you know why? because there is nothing, they can play that game but we can play it better. because we have a think of the united states senate and a lot of very questionable things were done between leaks of classified information and many other elements that should not have taken place and all you're going to do is end up back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and two years will go up and we will not have done nothing. i really think and i really respect what nancy said last night about bipartisanship and getting together and uniting. she used the word uniting and she used the bipartisanship statement which is so important because that's what we should be doing. they can look at us, we should be doing. they can look at us, we can should be doing. they can look at us, we can look at them, and it will go back and forth and it will probably be very good for me
5:13 pm
politically. i could see being extremely good politically because i think i am better at that game than they are actually. but we will find out. or we they are actually. but we will find out. orwe can they are actually. but we will find out. or we can work together. you cannot do them simultaneously by the way. if they are doing that, we're not doing the other, just you understand. we will not be doing that. but now what happens is we sent it to the senate and we will get 100% democrat support and we'll get 100% democrat support and we'll get some republican support and if it's good i really believe, we have republicans that will help with the approval process and they will really help with the approval process. so it really could be a beautiful bipartisanship of situation. if we want four by one or two or three or four or five that would not happen, the closer it is the worse it is. this way they will come to me, they will negotiate, maybe we'll make a deal, maybe we want, but we have a lot of things in
5:14 pm
common on infrastructure. we want to do something on health care and so do something on health care and so do they, there are a lot of great things we can do together and now i will set it up and we will get the democrats and we will get the republicans, some of the republicans, some of the republicans, i will make sure we send something up that the republicans can support and they are going to want to make sure they send something up that the democrats can support. so our great country is booming like never before and we are thriving on every single level. both in terms of economic and military strength. in terms of development, in terms of gdp, we are doing unbelievably. i will tell you our trade deals are coming along fa nta stically. trade deals are coming along fantastically. the us mca, south korea is finished, the us mca has gotten rave reviews, we will not get companies going to other countries, they will not do that because they have a tremendous economic incentive
5:15 pm
meaning it's prohibitive for them to do that so it's not going to be like nafta, one of the worst deals i have ever seen nafta, one of the worst deals i have ever seen the lead me to mother pretty bad ones too. now is the time for members of both parties tojoin together, put partisanship aside and keep the american economic miracle going strong. it is a miracle, we are doing so well and i've said it had a lot of rallies, some have you heard it so much you will not want to yet again but when come to my office, presidents, prime minister's they all congratulated me, almost bursting, and what we have done economically because it is amazing. our steel industry is back, our aluminium industry is starting to do really well. these industries which we re really well. these industries which were dead, miners are working again. we must all work together to protect our military. they have to do that. we have do support our law
5:16 pm
enforcement, support our borders and advance great policy including environmental policy. we want crystal clea n environmental policy. we want crystal clean water, we want beautiful perfect air. air and water has to be perfect. at the same time we don't want to put ourselves at a disadvantage to other countries who are very competitive with us and who don't abide by the rules at all. we don't abide by the rules at all. we don't want to hurt ourjobs, we don't want to hurt ourjobs, we don't want to hurt our factories, we don't want to hurt our factories, we don't want to hurt our factories, we don't want companies leaving, we wa nt don't want companies leaving, we want to be totally competitive and we are. and right now we have just about the cleanest air, the cleanest water we have ever had and it's always going to be that way, we insist upon it. environmental is very important to me and with that i will take a few questions if you like. wow. i did not know what happened. go ahead. that was a lot of hands shooting up. there is a lot to talk about. you talked at length
5:17 pm
about bipartisanship, the present speaker of the house nancy pelosi talked about it last night, i am sure that is encouraging for the american people but do you really believe, given what the relationship has been like between this white house and the democratic party, that that will happen? i think there is a good chance, i think there was a very good chance. will you have to compromise on certain issues to the point where it could hurt you in 2020 and do you expect when the democrats take over the chairmanship of these important committees you will get hit with a blizzard of subpoenas on everything from the russian investigations to your cell phone use, the tax returns?“ russian investigations to your cell phone use, the tax returns? if that happens we will do the same thing and government comes to a halt and i would blame them because they are going to be coming up with policy, the majority of the house. i expect they will come up with some fantastic ideas that i can support on the environment. on some on a
5:18 pm
different things. including prescription drug prices which we've made a big dent in already. including some of the things we're working on for the vets, we've got things approved but there are other elements we want. there are many things we can get along on without a lot of trouble that we agree on, i would like to see bipartisanship, i would like to see bipartisanship, i would like to see bipartisanship, i would like to see unity and i think we have a good chance, maybe not on everything but i think we have a good chance of seeing that. go ahead. one question, you toyed with the idea during a campaign of a shutdown before the midterms in order to secure border war funding. are you prepared to go on a shutdown strategy during the lame duck since this might be your last best chance to secure that? not necessarily, i speak to democrat all the time and they agree a while is necessary. we
5:19 pm
are building the wall, we have started but we should build it at one time not in chunks. you want much more money. we need more money to build a whole wall. we are doing it, now we have the military and other elements of the wall that are pretty nasty to be honest but it's nevertheless pretty hard to get through it. i would like to see the wall. many of the people that will be dealing with in 2006 approved the wall essentially, it was a very strong border fence but it was the same thing. they all agreed, i have statements from every one of them, we have them saying we need the wall. we do need it because we had people coming and i'm notjust talking about the caravans, we have people coming through our border that you physically cannot put that many people, to 2000 mile stretch, you can not have that many people along that stretch to guard it. and evenif along that stretch to guard it. and even if you did, tremendous would ensue so we
5:20 pm
even if you did, tremendous would ensue so we need the wall, many democrats know we need the wall, and we re democrats know we need the wall, and were just going to have to see what happens. i will be fighting for it, they have done everything in their power to make sure, i've got the military 700 million, the wall is a tiny fraction of the cost, but the whole agenda has been to try not giving me anything for the wall. i really believe politically they are hurting themselves. i think politically it's a good thing for me but i want to get the wall up. so no shutdown scenario? i cannot commit to that but it's possible. can you give us clarity on your thinking currently about your attorney general and your deputy attorney general, do they have long—term job security? i would rather and so that ata security? i would rather and so that at a different time, we are looking at a different time, we are looking ata at a different time, we are looking at a lot of different things, i am very happy with most of my cabinet. we're looking at different people for different positions, very, after the midterms, i do not want to do
5:21 pm
anything for the midterms but i will tell you for the most part i'm extremely happy with my cabinet, i think mike pompeo has fitted in beautifully and an incredible job. how about interior secretary? we are looking at that, and i do want to study is being said. is he in jeopardy? i think he's doing a great job but we will look at that and probably have an idea about that in a week. thank you. wow, this is... go ahead. he gave me a fair interview the other day so i might as well as can a question. picking up, you told me the other day you are an open book. i thinki am an open book. so, point blank, democrats go after your tax returns will you try to block that will you allow them to have it? as i have told you they are under audit and have been for a long time, they are extremely complex, people would not understand them. they are done by
5:22 pm
the biggest and best law firms in the biggest and best law firms in the country, same thing with the accounting firms, they are very large, powerful firms the standpoint of respect, highly respected, big firm. great lawfirm, you know it very well. they do these things, they put the men. but people don't understand tax returns. i did do a filing of over 100 pages i believe which is in the offices and when people went and saw that filing and they saw the magnitude of it they we re very they saw the magnitude of it they were very disappointed and they saw the details, you get far more from that. i guess we filed that now three times. you get more from that then you could ever get from a tax return but when you are under audit, andi return but when you are under audit, and i am under continuous audit because so many companies and it's a very big company, far bigger than you would even understand, but it's a great company, but it's big. it's complex. it's probably feet high.
5:23 pm
it's a very complex instrument and think that people would not understand it. but if i was finished with the odd that i would have an open mind to it. but i don't want to do it during the audit and really no lawyer even from the other side they say often, not always, but when you're under audit you don't have, you're under audit you don't have, you don't subject it to that, you get it done and then you release it. so when that happens, if that happens i would certainly have an open mind. so if the audit is all you will not turn? nobody would. go ahead. i was tempted to ask you why you like oprah winfrey so much but i think i will go on to the question... why do i like oprah, what kind of question is that? we have got a comedian here. i do like her. she was a person i knew well,
5:24 pm
came to my place in palm beach and i have a lot of respect for her, unfortunately she did not do the trick. the real question is you just stood up and said from this podium that, are you offering my way or the highway scenario to the democrats? negotiation. you are staying if they start investigating you that you can play the game and investigate them. can you compare to my eyes —— compartmentalised that and still continue to work with them for the benefit of the rest of the country oi’ benefit of the rest of the country orare benefit of the rest of the country or are all bets off? no, if they do that then holidays is a warlike posture. wait a minute, then the follow—up. .. posture. wait a minute, then the follow-up... you heard posture. wait a minute, then the follow-up. .. you heard the answer. thank you mr president, i wanted to challenge you on a statement you made at the tail end of the campaign. here we go. you said this
5:25 pm
ca rava n campaign. here we go. you said this caravan was an invasion. it was not an invasion, it's a group of migrants moving up through central america towards the border with the us. thank you for telling me that. why did you characterise it as such? because i consider it an invasion and we have a difference of opinion. do you think you have demonised immigrants? i want people to come to this country but legally, i wanted to bea this country but legally, i wanted to be a process and i want people to come and we need the people. wait, you know why we need the people because we have hundreds of companies moving in, we need the people. your campaign had and add showing migrants climbing over walls and so on,... that is true, they we re and so on,... that is true, they were not actors, do you think they we re were not actors, do you think they were actors? they did not come from hollywood. these were people, this was a natural, it happened a few days ago. they are hundreds of miles
5:26 pm
away. hundreds and hundreds of miles away. hundreds and hundreds of miles away. honestly, i think away. hundreds and hundreds of miles away. honestly, ithink you away. hundreds and hundreds of miles away. honestly, i think you should let me run the country, you run cnn and if you did it well your ratings would be much better. that's enough. that's enough. that's enough. that's enough. pardon me man. i have one other question it if i may ask rush of investigation, are you concerned that you may have... i am not concerned about anything with the russian investigation because it it's a hoax. are you worried about indictments coming down in this investigation? i tell you what, indictments coming down in this investigation? itell you what, cnn should be ashamed of itself having you working for them. you are rude, terrible person, you should not be working for cnn. go ahead. you're a very rude person, the way you treat sarah huckabee is horrible and the way you treat other people is horrible. you should not treat
5:27 pm
people that way. go ahead, peter.|j have travelled with jim and he people that way. go ahead, peter.|j have travelled withjim and he is people that way. go ahead, peter.|j have travelled with jim and he is a diligent reporter. i am not a big fan of yours either to be honest. you are not the best. just sit down, please. when you report fake news, when you report fake news, which cnn does, a lot, you are the enemy of the people. mr president, over the course of the last several days of the campaign, sir, at the end of the campaign you repeatedly said americans need to fear democrats, you said democrats would unleash a wave of violent crime which endangers family everywhere, why are you putting americans against one another? what are you time to do, be him? very simple because they are very weak on crime, they have often suggested members and people within the democrat party at a high level have suggested getting rid of ice,
5:28 pm
getting rid of law enforcement and that's not going to happen. we want to be strong on the borders, we want to be strong on the borders, we want to be strong on the borders, we want to be stronger law enforcement and i wa nt to be stronger law enforcement and i want to cherish at nicks ice because they do a fantasticjob. what they do for us is so, it's all unrecognised, how good a job they do. we want to take care of them and we want to hold them very close because they do a good job. to be clear, the question was why... you did not answer my question, simply, the question is, why are you putting americans against one another, is that how you view citizens of this country? i am not, we won a lot of elections last night, we did very well la st elections last night, we did very well last night. i think it's going to have a very positive impact, i watched nbc this morning, they did not report it correctly but that's, thatis not report it correctly but that's, that is the fact that nbc, nothing i can do about that. but i want this country to have detection. we want
5:29 pm
security and our country. i want security, peter. you maybe don't think it's so important, and i think when you don't have it you are indeed unleashing crying, i feel that. you said you would sign an executive order on birth rate citizenship, are you still going to do that? i'll answer that question later. go ahead. thank you mr president, the investigation by the special counsel robert mueller has been going on since last spring, it's been over a year, over your head, over the head of the republicans, is this an opportunity for you mr president to end that investigation, would you consider removing him from his position?|j could removing him from his position?” could have ended at any time i wanted and i didn't. there was no collusion, there was no anything. i didn't. they went after hackers in moscow, i don't know about that, they went after people with tax problems from years ago. they went after people with loans and other
5:30 pm
things, nothing to do with my campaign. this is an investigation where many, many millions of dollars has been spent and there's no collusion. it was supposed to be on collusion, there is no collusion. and i think it's very bad for our country, i will tell you. and i think it's very bad for our country, iwill tell you. i and i think it's very bad for our country, i will tell you. i think it's a shame and a paul came out today, by the way, from nbc, but at least i saw it on nbc, where the majority of people do not agree with the robert mueller investigation, or they have approval and disapproval and they had a much higher disapproval. it should end because it's very bad for our country. and i'm notjust talking it's very bad for our country. and i'm not just talking about the tremendous expense, and the other thing is they should look at the other side also, the only look at one side, they are not looking at all of the things that came up during this investigation. they don't do that. they should also get people like me fair, not 13 or 14 or
5:31 pm
17, i call them the angry democrats, they are angry people and it's a very unfairthing they are angry people and it's a very unfair thing for this country, it's a very, forget about unfair to me, it's very bad for a country. go ahead, nick,... if me, it's very bad for a country. go ahead, nick, . .. if it's me, it's very bad for a country. go ahead, nick,... if it's unfair to the country, why is it costing... give him the night, i have answered a question. i will give you voters, i will give you water suppression. you just do, sit down and please, sits down, i did not call you. take a look at the cnn polls, how inaccurate they were, that is called voter suppression. iam not voter suppression. i am not responding, i am responding... excuse me, iam not responding... excuse me, iam not responding to you, i am talking to this gentleman. will you please sit down? excuse me, he set down. go ahead. now that the house of
5:32 pm
representative... such a hostile media, it is so sad. no, you really interrupted him. go ahead. do your demands remain the same to the united states congress on immigration and exchange for an amnesty for immigration and exchange for an amnestyfor1.7 immigration and exchange for an amnesty for 1.7 million, are you willing to change those demands that you gave to congress earlier? we could do something given to do with docket. we could have done good work on this, but a judge ruled that it was ok. at the judgment ruled that way, we would have made a deal. once the judge ruled that way, democrats didn't want to talk and more. we will see how it works out at the supreme court. do you still... go ahead. international media question. yes, go ahead. go ahead. which
5:33 pm
group? go—ahead, man? eitherone, or both. are you together? how do you respond to critics who say that your message on the campaign towards minorities have been polarising? identikit has—been. minorities have been polarising? identikit has-been. the election of two muslim women, one of them is american history. i don't understand what you're saying. you think it is more reflective of multi and multicultural america?” more reflective of multi and multiculturalamerica? i can only send us, you look at the employment and an implement numbers for african—americans, asian—americans, hispanic americans, they are at an historic high. they poll came out re ce ntly historic high. they poll came out recently where my numbers with hispanics and with african—americans are the highest they have ever been. that took place to three days ago. i
5:34 pm
have the best numbers african—american and hispanic american i have ever had before. i can't say that but i can say this — you look at median income and the employment and unemployment numbers, they are doing the best they have ever done. it reflects the polls.” am american, so you understand me. my am american, so you understand me. my question is on health care, how is it possible to premiums down and covered readjusting conditions without the individual mandate to find it? firstly, what we are doing and if we look at the department of labour also with his secretary separately, they have come up with some incredible health care plans with competition and driving prices down. but we are getting rid of the individual mandate, because it was unfairto many individual mandate, because it was unfair to many people. at this time, we are covering the people that need
5:35 pm
it. the individual mandate was a disaster, because people that couldn't necessarily afford it or having to pay for the privilege of not having to pay for health care and it was bad health care at that. so we are working... we are committing competition. we had obama ca re committing competition. we had obama care that we repealed and replaced. unfortunately, one person changed his mind at the last moment and we had no democrat support. wouldn't have one vote. we would have revealed that, replaced it, and would have had a large scale crown —— health care plan. now, we are doing at a different way. but getting rid of the individual mandate is popular and important and people appreciated. that is enough, go ahead. two question, you through the results and studied them late last night, what lesson did you learn from looking at those results?
5:36 pm
was there one thing as you reviewed them that you will change, in your strategy, not just for them that you will change, in your strategy, notjust for congress, but going forward? the result that i have learned that people like me and the job i have learned that people like me and thejob i am have learned that people like me and the job i am doing, frankly. if you look at every place went to do a rally, i can do everybody, and it was very hard to do it with people in congress, because there are too many stops. but i did with the senate and did it with andy barr, and he won a very tough race against mcgrath. it was a tough race in the kentucky derby was down quite a bit andi kentucky derby was down quite a bit and i went there and had its excess full rally, some of you were there, and he won that race. i could only do that so much, because there are similar players involved. what i focus on in the senate and we had tremendous success with that. such a one more question? if this is a rare
5:37 pm
opportunity, i'm sorry. a lot of people will be rushing to iowa and new hampshire, the democrats are already looking at the 2020 elections, do you want to lock down your ticket right now? or the vice president be a running mate in 2020? i haven't asked him, but mike, will you be my running mate? stand—up, raise your right hand. will you? think you, the answer is yes and stop that was unexpected, but that was good. going back to the russian investigation and the potential investigations from the now democratic majority in congress, some say you could stop this did ratifying... i could fire every body right now, but i don't want to stop it, because politically, i don't like stopping. it is a disgrace, it should have never been started, because there was no crime. every body has conflicts, they all have
5:38 pm
conflicts about that repealed anything that every everybody has ever seen anything that every everybody has everseen in anything that every everybody has ever seen in terms of conflicts. people ask forjobs, from the fact that they have good friends on the other side, like really good friends, who have lied and leaked and leaked classified information. nothing happened there. it might, perhaps, maybe something is happening but i don't know about. i stay away from it. but what i do is just let it go on. they are wasting a lot of money, but i let it go on, because i don't want to do that. but you are right, i could edit right now, i could say, that investigation is over. —— i could end it right now. but it is a disgrace and an advancement to our country and to the people of our country and it's too bad. what about the declassification of the documents? we are looking at that seriously.
5:39 pm
declassification we are looking at services. allows more question? people on the other side of want those documents to declassified, but we are looking at that carefully. i wanted to wait until after the midterms. can i have one more question? go ahead. you have campaigned asa question? go ahead. you have campaigned as a pro—life president, you have defended the rights of unborn children, you know have a divided congress... that's right, tough issue. how will you push this agenda forward? i willjust push. i've done a good job, but it is a tough issue for the two size. what will you do? i can't expand that to you, because it is an issue that is very divisive and polarising. but there is a solution, i think i have a solution and nobody else has. we will be working on that. go ahead.
5:40 pm
sheeted your face, but that's ok. —— she took your place. could you talk a bit about what folks turning out for republican voting means for trade and the farm bill? it is working well and we could have had it approved any time. we are looking to get work rules approved, the farmers wanted and i would like it. but the democrats are not giving us the vote that we need. everybody wants it, but the democrats will not approve this with work rules. we could have it very fast without the work rules, but we want the work rules in and the democratsjust don't want to vote for that, so at some point, they will have to pay a price. go ahead. thank you mr president. have you seen any evidence that russia or china intervened in yesterday's election?
5:41 pm
we will make a full report and unlike the previous administration, we have done a lot of work on that issue. if you look at the fbi and department of justice, speak issue. if you look at the fbi and department ofjustice, speak to homeland security, we have spent a lot of time and it gets very little cove rage lot of time and it gets very little coverage in the papers, you cover the nonsense parts, but you don't have an important part. this is very important and we have been working very ha rd important and we have been working very hard on china and russia and everybody else looking into our collections or meddling with our elections. people tend not to write about it. what do you intend to say to the presidents when you meet with them later this month?” to the presidents when you meet with them later this month? i have a good relationship with both. i know the chinese president better, but i think i have a good religion shipped with both. i had a good meeting in russia. —— i have a good relationship with both. i had a very good meeting with the russian
5:42 pm
president and a lot was discussed about security and syria, about ukraine, about the fact that president obama allowed a very large pa rt of president obama allowed a very large part of ukraine to be taken and right now, you have submarines off that part we're talking about. that was president putin? that was president obama's regime. that was during his regime. no, that was president obama. he allowed it to happen. it had nothing to do with me. go ahead. iam happen. it had nothing to do with me. go ahead. i am from sky news, you are a man who likes to win, but la st you are a man who likes to win, but last night was not an absolute victory free. i'll be honest, i thought it was a very close to complete victory when.
5:43 pm
complete victory when thought it was a very close to complete victory when you look at it from negotiation with the standpoint of deal— making, because from negotiation with the standpoint of deal—making, because it is all about deal— making, again, of deal—making, because it is all about deal—making, again, if we had the majority and we had one or two or three votes to play with, we would have been at a standstill. irony believe that we have a chance to get along very well with the democrats and if that is the case, we can do a tremendous amount of legislation and get it approved by both parties. so, i consider it to be... look, iwon both parties. so, i consider it to be... look, i won georgia, both parties. so, i consider it to be... look, iwon georgia, president obama campaign very hard in georgia. oprah winfrey campaign very hard, all over the television and said this is going to be tough. amy had me, nobody else. i went to georgia and we had one of the largest crowds that anybody here has seen ever at a political rally. and he won, he won bya political rally. and he won, he won by a pretty good margin. then we we nt by a pretty good margin. then we
5:44 pm
went to florida and they had celebrities all over the place and a man who happens to be a very smart person was running. people didn't give him a chance. i went and we had... we did some great work and they will have a great governor in a state of florida. then, we talked about the senate. a lot of money was pouring in for the democrats. this isa man pouring in for the democrats. this is a man who has been in office for 44 years, this is a man who is a professional at getting elected and being head office, so bill nelson is not easy to beat. but they had a lot of celebrities coming out from nelson and rex got one —— rick scott won. look at some of the other places, and we got the word that in iowa, you have a governor whojust got extended, and numerous other
5:45 pm
places. it was a great victory. and actually, some of the news this morning was that it was in fact a great victory. but if you look at it from the standpoint of gridlock, i believe there will be much less gridlock because of the way this is going than any other. sit down please. go ahead. iwould like going than any other. sit down please. go ahead. i would like to ask about one of the campaign promises you made down the stretch, a 10% tax cut for the middle—class. you about gridlock, the immigrants now run the house of ways means. if it means a tax cut for the middle class, but it means raising rates elsewhere, corporations on the wealthiest, is that a trade—off that you would be willing to make? this will now have to be proposed, because of we did it now, we don't have the votes in the senate. we would need ten democrat votes and with republican get them. if we
5:46 pm
could, we could pass it easily in the house, but there is no reason to waste time if you don't have the votes in the senate. if the democrats come up with an idea for tax cuts, which i am a big believer in, iwould tax cuts, which i am a big believer in, i would absolutely prissy something, even if it means some adjustment. on which side? some adjustment. on which side? some adjustment to make it possible. i would love to see a tax cut in the middle class. now, that'll be their and they will have to make that decision. kudryk to the senate, we would need the senate votes. wouldn't be one, two, 3% on either side? i'm not telling you. but i would be willing to do an adjustment. go ahead. two questions, you talk about leaders who called to congratulate you, president putin called to congratulate you and will you meet with him at lunch this coming weekend? as i understand it,
5:47 pm
we are having a lunch for numerous countries. i will be there and i believe president putin will be there. we don't have anything scheduled, i don't think, in paris. and i am coming back very quickly. this is a great event, this is an important... it will be a good full ceremony and i'm looking forward to going and we will represent the incredible heroes of the world. the heroes from our country from world wari, so heroes from our country from world war i, so i will go there and i am proud to go there. did he call you? we don't have time set aside for that meeting. but we are a meeting at the g20, where he will be there andi at the g20, where he will be there and i will be there. that is where we will look forward to me. we will be having a large, but i think there will be other people there. did he call you too can graduate you? and ifi call you too can graduate you? and if i could also invite you to go ahead and talk about the staff changes you expect in the white
5:48 pm
house while we are here? we are eager to hear about them. will general kelly stayed on? as you make changes, we will talk to about it. there is no great secret. administrations make changes after midterms. i will say that i am very happy with this cabinet for the most part. what about in the white house? you have a lot of white house staff. general kelly has been rumoured to be leaving. people leave. will that happen? i haven't heard about john kelly. people leave, they come in, they are here, it is an exhausting job, although i love doing it, but it is exhausting for a lot of people. i'm surprised at a lot of people, they are young, they are therefore two years, and they are old by the time they leave. it is quite exhausting. but i love doing it andi quite exhausting. but i love doing it and i tell you, there will be changes. nothing monumental from that standpoint, i don't think much
5:49 pm
different than most administrations. we have many people lined up for every single position. everybody wants to work in this white house, we are a hot country, this is a hot white house. we are a white house that people want to work with. no no, please, behind you. go ahead. this is been a challenging campaign... very challenging campaign... very challenging campaign. there has been quite a lot of abuse and violence. people have died during the course of this campaign. is there any way in which you think the temperature could be load full stop perhaps these could break out with the media? perhaps europe bipartisan relationships may produce some change? —— your bipartisan relationships.” produce some change? —— your bipartisan relationships. i would love to see peace and unity and love, or whatever word you want to
5:50 pm
use. obviously, ithink love, or whatever word you want to use. obviously, i think we love, or whatever word you want to use. obviously, ithink we had love, or whatever word you want to use. obviously, i think we had to especially at this junction, to wait until after the midterms were over. now they are over. if they would cover me fairly, which they don't, i'm not saying that in a hostile way, i get extremely inaccurate cove rage. way, i get extremely inaccurate coverage. i could do something that is fantastic and they will make it look like not good. i don't mind having bad stories, i make a mistake, i would like you to cover it fairly, but cover it. when you do something to reflect, look how little the economy is talked about. a poll came out this morning talking about how little the three networks, they didn't include cnn, but how little the three networks talk about how good the economy is. almost not at all. if president obama had this economy, and by the way, if that administration, through somebody else, kept going, you would have had
5:51 pm
negative 4.2 instead of positive 4.296 negative 4.2 instead of positive 4.2% growth. you would have had negative. the point is this, excuse me. i would love to see unity, including with the media. because i think the media, i'll be honest, it isa very think the media, i'll be honest, it is a very divisive thing for our country. you would be amazed at how smart people are who are reading stories and watching, you would be amazed how perceptive and smart they are. they get it. and it really does bring this unity. excuse me, you are not called on. go ahead, go ahead. thank you president trump. after your victory speech on the historic night back in november 2016, i asked you to what sigel factory argument is attributed the victory to? can you speak up? i asked you right after your speech to what you would
5:52 pm
attribute your retreat to, you pointed to the ceiling and said it was god. based off of that, how would you say over the last two yea rs, would you say over the last two years, god plays a factor in the day—to—day execution of the office? he plays a bid factor in my life and in the lives of many people i know well in this room. like your vice president, god plays a big role in my life. one more question, a quick follow—up, which lost surprised to the most last night and which of these unsuccessful candidates are you most likely to consider... nothing surprises me and politics. there were losses and victories last night that were incredible. there are victories last night that nobly would believe, especially based on the suppression polls. there are a lot of suppression polls and there we re lot of suppression polls and there were some victories last night that we re very were some victories last night that were very surprised. but i won't ta ke were very surprised. but i won't take a special... it is tough enough for those people to have a loss.
5:53 pm
would you consider any four and an attrition post moving forward? what? would you consider any of the people who lost last night as opposed in an attrition in the future? yes, i would actually. i asked you on monday if there was anything that you regret in your first two years, and you said that at times, you could have and should have used a softer tone. your critics, as you can imagine, say they are not holding their breath on that happening. will you indeed have to change your town if you're to get things passed through congress after losing the house and you also said you might extend an olive branch?” would love to have... i would be good at a low tone, but when things are done not correctly about you, written about you, said about you on television, you have to is defend yourself. i would love to do this, very easier than what i do. i have
5:54 pm
to go around and going around is easier than facing someone and being treated fairly. but when you are not treated fairly. but when you are not treated fairly, you have no choice. i would love to have an even, modest, boring town. i would i would love to have an even, modest, boring town. iwould be i would love to have an even, modest, boring town. i would be very honoured by that, but do you know what? when you have to fight all the time because you are being misrepresented by the media, you can't do that. not about the media, but what about with congress? please, go ahead. can you tell it how you look is on the economic... where are you from? japan. how will you focus on the trade and commission with japan? lee asked to japan to do more? i don't understand you. trade with japan? japan to do more? i don't understand you. trade withjapan? we are dealing with japan right
5:55 pm
you. trade withjapan? we are dealing withjapan right now on trade. japan has... it is a great country, you have a great prime minister, is accessible collection recently. here's a good friend of mine and he is one of the people i am closest with. but i tell him all the time that does not treat the usa fairly on trade. they send in millions of cars at a very low tax, they don't take our cars and if they do, there is a massive tax. iam not blaming japan, iam do, there is a massive tax. iam not blaming japan, i am bringing the people that were in charge of the us for allowing that to happen. as you know, we have close to $100 billion trade deficit with japan and japan has treated us very unfairly. but you were the only one. firstly, secretary pompeo talks with north korea, but this was postponed. what
5:56 pm
is happening there? we are going to change it because of trips that are being made. we regret to make it another day, but we are happy with how it is going with north korea. it is going fine, we are in no hurry. the sanctions are on, the missiles had stopped, the rockets have stopped. the hostages are home. the great heroes have been coming home. mike pence was in hawaii, one of the most beautiful ceremonies that anyone has ever seen for the fallen full stop these are great heroes and very important, when i was running, as many years ago as it was, in many cases, grandchildren, but they were asking about their coming home and being provided to us as we speak. but i'm in no rush. the sanctions are on. i read a couple of times and i have seen a few times when i said coming he has done so much. what
5:57 pm
have i done? i met. now, iwould love to take the sanctions off, but they have to be responsive, too. it isa they have to be responsive, too. it is a two—way street. but we are not in any rush, there is no rush whatsoever. before i got here, they we re whatsoever. before i got here, they were dealing with this for over 70 years. ona were dealing with this for over 70 years. on a nuclear front, 425 years. on a nuclear front, 425 years. that is a long time. i've been there, i probably left singapore for five months ago. we made more progress in those four or five months than they have in 70 years. nobody else could have done what i have done. but i will say this, very simply, we are in no rush. the sanctions are on and whatever it is... but the meeting will be rescheduled. and you meeting with kim jong—un? will be rescheduled. and you meeting with kim jong-un? sometime next year. sometime early next. and a quick question on the usnca. now it
5:58 pm
is concluded, have you repaired your relationship? guess i have, we have a very good relationship. we have been talking a lot about division and the division that exists in this country right now and some of the statistics are disturbing to just about everyone. and tyson mitigates them have increased by 57%. —— anti—semitic. what will you do about it? it is sad to see it, i hate to see it. if you're with me the last time we met, it was said that this president has done more for israel than any other president. those were the exact words. jerusalem, protection, working together, so many different things will stop but the thing in —— but the thing is jerusalem. many presidents have said they will build the embassy in jerusalem, it never happened. making
5:59 pm
it the capital, it never happened. but it happened with me, and quickly. not only did it happen, we built the embassy that would have taken another 15 or 20 years and cost probably billions of dollars. and we did it for a tiny amount of money. it is already open. nobody has done more for israel than donald trump and the nice part is that it is not me saying it, it is the prime minister. what about the divide in this country? we want to see it here. one of the things that can help heal disease excess of our country. we are really successful. we have gone up $11.7 trillion in west. china has come down tremendously. —— in worth. china
6:00 pm
would have superseded us as an economic power, but now they are not close. china 25 is very insulting, because it means that in 2025, they will take over economic lee the world. i said, that is not happening. we have gone way up and they have gone down. i don't want them to go down, we will have a good meeting and we will see what we can do, buti meeting and we will see what we can do, but i have to say this, billions of dollars will soon be pouring into our treasury from taxes that china is paying for us. if use the —— if you speak to the leading authority on china, he said he has never seen anything like it. and neither has china. but we will try and make a deal with china, because i want to have great relationships with the president, as i do, and also with china.
