brighton in the premier league to earn just their second win of the season. and hoping to bow out with a bang. can tony bellew win all of the world cruiserweight titles when he takes on oleksandr usyk in manchester tonight? good evening. it's one of the busiest days in the yearfor sport. lots of football, motor racing, cricket and boxing to come in the programme, but let's start with rugby and the autumn internationals. the odds looked to be stacked against england against the all conquering all blacks. the home side, though, came agonisingly close to causing an upset. a disallowed try in the final minutes cost them victory. the final score was england 15 new zealand 16. here's our sports editor dan roan.

new zealand represents the ultimate test in rugby, perhaps in all of sport, but it was clear twickenham was in no mood to be intimidated. the haka, symbol of all black potency, defiantly drowned out. not for six years had england tasted victory against the all blacks, but within two minutes, they were ahead. winger chris ashton celebrating his recall to the team in perfect fashion. england were not satisfied. a maul ending with dylen hartley crashing over. 15—0 down, the number one team was rattled but a response was inevitable. beauden barrett's sleight—of—hand putting damian mckenzie through, game on. momentum had shifted. new zealand taking the lead after the restart through the boot of barrett. in a tight match, and with time running out, it was england

who appeared to have made a decisive breakthrough. a charge—down by courtney lawes picked up by the superb sam underhill. as the stadium celebrated, the referee looked again and the try eventually disallowed for offside. england cruelly denied what would have been what would have been a historic victory. new zealand win again, albeit byjust a point. they are a top class team obviously. they are number one team in the world at the minute. i did not feel at any moment in that game and that we did not believe that we were going to win it. and unfortunately we did not come out on the right side. i thought england played really well. they scored points at every opportunity they got. we had to show a lot of character to come back and the team we got in the last six minutes of the first half. not much was expected of england coming into these autumn internationals amid poorform and plenty of injuries. the pressure was mounting

on coach eddie jones. but after beating south africa and a performance against new zealand to build on, the mood among the team and fans has lifted. it wasn't a classic match, but it's a final result that is going to be remembered for a long time in wales. they've beaten australia by 9—6. it was a penalty by dan biggar with three minutes remaining that settled the contest. james burford reports. whales have lost their last 13 tests against australia. a victory here would take some firepower. but it was the visitors that set the pace, perhaps a forward pass here. the parma instant as the ball was left behind. and so to the reliable boot of leo halfpenny, not on this occasion. fans would forgive that well at is later at ten perhaps. this to take the lead just before half—time. this to take the lead just before

meaning that practise for their first match against sri lanka has been limited. but perhaps the most crucial worry for england is the absence of katherine brunt. the all rounder, vastly experienced and a hugely important member for a number of years, aggravated a back injury in the final match against india. she misses a turn, and england know how important she is for this side. she is a massive part of the side on and off the pitch. on the pitch, she is a brilliant all rounder, bats in the top six and bowls the tough overs in t20. she is hard to replace. you feel like you need two players to do that. but we have a bit of cover and i'm confident that the girls coming into the side are going to do a good job. no question about it, english have aspirations of making the semi—finals at the very least. anything less than that will be seen as a major disappointment for the side. but it will not be easy. t20 cricket means the odd upset can be thrown up. the condensed format means itjust takes one cricketer to have a good day and a bowler to struggle, and you could find yourself on the receiving end

of a shock result. england know they have to be careful and professional, and without some of their big—name players, they need others to stand up and ensure they make a name for themselves and give themselves the best chance of claiming that trophy. meanwhile, england's men have been enjoying a well deserved day off after thrashing sri lanka in the first test, but england have some dilemmas over selection for the second test. usual wicket keeperjonny bairstow is fit again, but replacement ben foakes made an impressive century. and there are still issues at the top of the batting order. coach trevor bayliss has hinted that moeen ali won't bat at number three in the second test after two failures in the first test. we have been looking for two or three guys in that position for a while.
