brighton in the premier league to earn just their second win of the season. and hoping to bow out with a bang. can tony bellew win all of the world cruiserweight titles when he takes on oleksandr usyk in manchester tonight? good evening. it's one of the busiest days in the yearfor sport. lots of football, motor racing, cricket and boxing to come in the programme, but let's start with rugby and the autumn internationals. the odds looked to be stacked against england against the all conquering all blacks. the home side, though, came agonisingly close to causing an upset. a disallowed try in the final minutes cost them victory. the final score was england 15 new zealand 16. here's our sports editor dan roan.
7:33 pm
new zealand represents the ultimate test in rugby, perhaps in all of sport, but it was clear twickenham was in no mood to be intimidated. the haka, symbol of all black potency, defiantly drowned out. not for six years had england tasted victory against the all blacks, but within two minutes, they were ahead. winger chris ashton celebrating his recall to the team in perfect fashion. england were not satisfied. a maul ending with dylen hartley crashing over. 15—0 down, the number one team was rattled but a response was inevitable. beauden barrett's sleight—of—hand putting damian mckenzie through, game on. momentum had shifted. new zealand taking the lead after the restart through the boot of barrett. in a tight match, and with time running out, it was england

who appeared to have made a decisive breakthrough. a charge—down by courtney lawes picked up by the superb sam underhill. as the stadium celebrated, the referee looked again and the try eventually disallowed for offside. england cruelly denied what would have been what would have been a historic victory. new zealand win again, albeit byjust a point. they are a top class team obviously. they are number one team in the world at the minute. i did not feel at any moment in that game and that we did not believe that we were going to win it. and unfortunately we did not come out on the right side. i thought england played really well. they scored points at every opportunity they got. we had to show a lot of character to come back and the team we got in the last six minutes of the first half. not much was expected of england coming into these autumn internationals amid poorform and plenty of injuries. the pressure was mounting
7:35 pm
on coach eddie jones. but after beating south africa and a performance against new zealand to build on, the mood among the team and fans has lifted. it wasn't a classic match, but it's a final result that is going to be remembered for a long time in wales. they've beaten australia by 9—6. it was a penalty by dan biggar with three minutes remaining that settled the contest. james burford reports. whales have lost their last 13 tests against australia. a victory here would take some firepower. but it was the visitors that set the pace, perhaps a forward pass here. the parma instant as the ball was left behind. and so to the reliable boot of leo halfpenny, not on this occasion. fans would forgive that well at is later at ten perhaps. this to take the lead just before half—time. this to take the lead just before
7:36 pm
half-time. that one is a real bad miss. the australian cogent summing up miss. the australian cogent summing up the first half feeling. early in the second period, halfpenny the victim of this poorly timed a shot who escaped unpunished. not the full—back‘s day. to be replaced by dan biggar. straight into the action and straight in between the posts. the keep it sealed the first will win ten years. a really emphatic victory for scotland against fiji after a tight first half. scotland were ahead 17—14 at the interval, but ran away with it in the second half. 54—17 was the final score. tommy seymour ran in three of scotland's eight tries and adam wild watched the match. music. murrayfield is a stage that is rare to want for passion or pride. the scottish performances have matched of late. scotland save their best for their home fans, but here was a clash of rugby cultures. fiji, the game's great entertainers, though they are much more than that.
7:37 pm
the challenge laid down, scotland did not so much rise to it, as burrow underneath. early tries from two of the front row, the platform is set. but the fiji reputation is well—earned. a glorious piece of action, what a try! dazzling, at times unplayable. incredible, absolutely brilliant! still the flashy stuff is all very well, but discipline is needed, too. fiji down to 13 men, and scotland quick to use the space. from there, they would not be really troubled. tommy seymour in for a hat trick, the sixth try for scotland, beating fiji at their own spectacular game. finishing with a final flourish from adam hastings. now they were the entertainers. a win was expected, but perhaps not quite like this. adam wild, bbc news. an incredible place to play rugby.
7:38 pm
an incredible stadium here today. we knew it was going to be a tough test. to bounce back in international rugby is important and they put on an incredible fight in the first half. we pulled away in the last 20 minutes and it was very pleasing. is there another level for south africa at next week? went to go away and come back next week and recover. ireland are playing argentina at the aviva stadium in dublin. the hosts scored two first half tries to argentina's one with bundee akki charging through for the second. it's now 17—15. let's see if they can equalise. there were emotional scenes
7:39 pm
at leicester city's king power stadium for the club's first home game since owner vichai srivaddhanaprabha and four others were killed in a helicopter crash outside the ground two weeks ago. most of the home fans turned up half an our early with some having joined a 5000—1 march from the city centre to the game. scarves saying "mr chairman, forever in our hearts" were laid ready for the fans on seats, and a special video tribute was played, watched by his son aiyawatt. many supporters were moved to tears during the tribute as the stadium fell silent. over to lizzie now for news of what happened in that game and the rest of today's premier league action. three are all playing thanks, just five games today because the top three are all playing the manchester derby. iis but looking at today's action, we'll start with that match at leicester against burnley...
7:40 pm
it ended in a goalless draw and whether or not the emotional strain had taken its toll on the leicester players we'll never know — but after starting well they faded and the result was really secondary to the occasion. let's hear from the leicester manager claude puel. i thought the player performance because they play with the effort they gave, they are best in the situation. of course, it is a disappointment. we wanted to win this game. but i am proud about our performance and for our chairman. yeah, it is important that we give our best. and it was a lot of emotion today, yeah. in the day's early match, cardiff pulled off a much needed win at home to brighton. neil warnock‘s men had only won once in the league before today but they came from behind to beat ten—man brighton. austin halewood reports. cardiff facing relegation from the championship when neil warnock took over. after 100 games, they are back in the premier league, but struggling once again. just five points so far,
7:41 pm
and an early goal the last thing they needed. brighton headed into the lead after just five minutes. brighton in total control until a run from kadeem harris the spark cardiff needed. patterson there to knock in a third goal in five matches for the striker, but his celebration not getting any better. after such a bright start, it only got worse for the seagulls. a lunge from dale stephens deemed a red card. brighton down to ten men. in the second half, cardiff had all the possession, but not enough precision. attack after attack slipping by and the match looking destined for a draw until finally, a goal hammered home. neil warnock celebrating a century of matches in charge. a second win of the season, the perfect present. austin halewood, bbc news. we have to work so hard
7:42 pm
against the top class sides, everyone we go up against. we have come on that quickly in the last 18 months. we cannot turn it down, coming up here, but we have had to work very hard and in january as well. but we are getting better every game and it's all credit to the boys because it was a blow to go down that early goal. in the late kick off, crystal palace were beaten by tottenham at home. juan foyth scoring his first senior goal of his career. his first senior goalfor his first senior goal for the argentine player. no wilfried zaha for palace which never bodes well. it's their fifth home defeat this season. newcastle beat bournemouth 2—1 — and it must have been a relief for newcastle's manager rafa benitez who'd lost three key players. but salomon rondon scored twice at st james park. it's the first time newcastle
7:43 pm
have had consecutive league wins since april. let's hear from benitez. we said before that it was important to score the first and to win the first game. we did score the first goal, so confident when you play at home and the fans are behind the players. everything we were trying to do and try to explain to everyone, we did really well. the fans appreciate that. they support the team and the players give everything so good news for us and we can carry on. west ham got a late equaliser at huddersfield. 1—1 the score at the john smith's stadium. it was a disappointing result. it keeps huddersfield second—bottom while west ham stay mid—table, let's hear from manager manuel pelligrini. we found a goal but did not play well in the first half. as i said before, the game was played with a lot of intensity and you must fight for every ball because they cross the shots and complicate everything. in second half, which created some
7:44 pm
chances and at least we tried better. four points in the week, i think this is positive. we are on the path. as i said before, we are in the race to leave three teams behind us and for this, we have other games ago. it was a good performance, especially in the first half. watford rescued a point at southampton, who haven't won since september. although charlie austin controversially had a second half goal disallowed. jose holebas' scored the equalizer for watford in the 82nd minute. southampton are hovering just above the relegation zone in 17th incresing the pressure on saints manager mark hughes. we deserved the three points today. so to have it obviously compromised because the officials did not get the decision right was really disappointing. and i'm a broken record and people think i am only moaning about referees again, i have been doing this a long
7:45 pm
time and i have a lot of reasons to do that if i am honest. it is not because they do on purpose, not because they want to go against us, because unfortunately they are not getting the key calls right. our idea was to drag a new win in but in the first half we started losing and after that we showed character and discipline. we were improving. maybe we could win in the last part of the game, but i think we created good chances as well. i think it was fair at one point. so here's todays results in full. not many goals. a lot of draws. but it is all about tomorrow. the top three still unbeaten. we have
7:46 pm
liverpool against fulham, chelsea against everton, arsenal against worlds and the manchester derby. so all the unbeatens, will they be unbeaten after tomorrow? would have to find out. all of it tomorrow on bbc news. some thrilling matches in the championship this afternoon, including a late winner for norwich to give them a 11—3 win at home to millwall and move them to the top of the table. here are all the scores. birmingham and hull shared six goals. away wins for swansea, preston and aston villa. middlesbrough are second after a 2—0 victory at home to wigan, queen's park rangers' recent good run continues. they beat local rivals brentford, and there were draws at nottingham forest and reading. west brom won the evening game. the first round proper of the fa cup kicked off this weekend. 29 ties today and nine tomorrow.
7:47 pm
there have been two big shocks. yeovil lost 3—1 at home to non league stockport county and league 2 bottom club macclesfield lost 2—1 at maidstone. after holding—off league one leaders portsmouth for nearly half an hour — national league side maidenhead eventually went down 4—0 at home. ben thompson opened the scoring for the vistors from inside the box. oliver hawkins doubled their lead before jamal lowe added a third with this turn and shotjust on the hour mark. david wheeler rounded off the scoring for pompey. fifth—tier side aldershot earned a replay against league one side bradford city. george fowler put them ahead early on before nathaniel knight—percival nodded home an equaliser 19 minutes from time. league 2 side swindon town left it fairly late against non—league york city. steven alzate slotted home the winner 15 minutes from time. 2—1 was the score. you can see the rest of today's results on the bbc sport website. now in the scottish

premiership, hearts stay top despite losing 1—0 to kilmarnock. the bottom of the table clash between dundee and st mirren finished 1—1, stjohnstone move up to fouth after a 4—0 victory over hamilton academicals. celtic and rangers both play tomorrow. lewis hamilton will start on pole position for the brazilian grand prix after producing a stellar lap to outpace the ferraris in sao paolo. he session wasn't without drama for the briton, though, as ben croucher explains. sao paulo and interlagos is literally translated as between the lakes but a different kind of water worrying the teams today. so which tyres to pick? they stay dry enough for the likes of lewis hamilton to get to the final part of qualifier.
7:49 pm
with all drivers on the track at the same time, they nearly tripped over each other. hamilton could get a penalty for this near miss. not so on the track as the ferraris put the time to beat, but has often has been the case, hamilton dragged his mercedes just fractions faster. the 100th mercedes pole position in formula 1. awesomejob! the job only half done. the next aim is to win for the first time ever after winning the title in the same season. that was a tough qualifying session. the weather going up and down and we did not know what to expect but obviously ferrari are quick to weekend and a lot of work going on in the background of my engineers to make sure we have the cars in the best place we could. now how about this for athleticism? elliott browne has powered his way to tumbling silver on the final day of the trampoline, tumbling and double mini
7:50 pm
trampoline world championships in st petersburg, russia. already the reigning world bronze medallist, elliott went one better this year. kristof willerton of britain just missed a podium position, finishing in fourth. that was just amazing. england's women are up against sri lanka in their opening game of the world t20 this evening. it gets underway in just over an hour. they're looking to add the 20 overs crown to the one day world title they won last year, but they'll face some tough competition from the likes of three—time winners australia, and the reigning champions west indies, who are this year's hosts. henry moeran has made the trip to st lucia for us. england go into this competition as one of the favourites. the 50—over champions looking to make it a double in this competition. their preparation ahead of it, though, has been farfrom ideal. warm—up matches have not quite gone the way mark robinson had wanted. the weather here in st lucia has been farfrom ideal,
7:51 pm
meaning that practise for their first match against sri lanka has been limited. but perhaps the most crucial worry for england is the absence of katherine brunt. the all rounder, vastly experienced and a hugely important member for a number of years, aggravated a back injury in the final match against india. she misses a turn, and england know how important she is for this side. she is a massive part of the side on and off the pitch. on the pitch, she is a brilliant all rounder, bats in the top six and bowls the tough overs in t20. she is hard to replace. you feel like you need two players to do that. but we have a bit of cover and i'm confident that the girls coming into the side are going to do a good job. no question about it, english have aspirations of making the semi—finals at the very least. anything less than that will be seen as a major disappointment for the side. but it will not be easy. t20 cricket means the odd upset can be thrown up. the condensed format means itjust takes one cricketer to have a good day and a bowler to struggle, and you could find yourself on the receiving end
7:52 pm
of a shock result. england know they have to be careful and professional, and without some of their big—name players, they need others to stand up and ensure they make a name for themselves and give themselves the best chance of claiming that trophy. meanwhile, england's men have been enjoying a well deserved day off after thrashing sri lanka in the first test, but england have some dilemmas over selection for the second test. usual wicket keeperjonny bairstow is fit again, but replacement ben foakes made an impressive century. and there are still issues at the top of the batting order. coach trevor bayliss has hinted that moeen ali won't bat at number three in the second test after two failures in the first test. we have been looking for two or three guys in that position for a while.
7:53 pm
obviously, keaton has done well in this test match. burns did not score any runs, but he has been impressive around the group and the practise and in some of the practise games and the way he looked while he was in his matches has been good. obviously, number three is a position now thatjoe has dropped to number four. so we will continue to search there, i think. moe has had a few chances there at this stage, but has not been able to take advantage of that. obviously, moe is a guy who will be in the team somewhere. now in manchester tonight tony bellew will attempt to make boxing history. he's taking—on the unbeaten ukrainian oleksandr usyk in the cruiserweight unification fight, trying to become the first briton to hold all four belts in a weight division. bellew says it'll be his last fight, but as boxing commentator steve bunce told me earlier, he's the out and out underdog, and this is likely to be the hardest fight of his career. we are still a few hours away but i am already putting i hope
7:54 pm
somewhere in the top ten. that includes mike tyson fights. ricky hatton fights. lennon lewis fights, enormous fights. it has to join them, even if it is a bad fight, it is still a big event. whether it is a brawl or slugfest, ends in the last seconds of the 12th round, that is a fantasy, that happens in hollywood. whatever happens, we have a good technical fight, it still becomes uneventful. in that case, tony bellew talking about retiring after this fight. why has he chosen someone so difficult for the swansong? i will tell you. when usyk won his last fight, someone asked him what he wanted to do next, he said, he looked down the lens the lens and he said, "i fight bellew." tony was a holiday
7:55 pm
with his family, heard straightaway and i'm told this fight is just about done and dusted about 90 minutes of the other fight ending. that is why. tony bellew likes a challenge. and if he goes on and does it, where will he rank in the history of british fighters? he has be in the top five or ten of british boxers. a massive underdog against david haye, and maybe twice. in this fight, not just an underdog but people are looking at usyk as the man who in 18 months will the anthonyjoshua. this for usyk is a stepping stone and for bellew is a chance to make history. you will call this fight tonight. what a privilege. lucky man. predict, don't make it the gruesome but let me hear it. i think usykjust knows too much and takes a risk when he has to and boxes brilliantly what he does not.
7:56 pm
i think that is what he will do tonight. the only thing that will make it really entertaining and maybe a big gory is that bellew does not know how to lose. that's all from sportsday. quick update on the rugby, argentina 110w quick update on the rugby, argentina now i had it with a few minutes left on the clock. all the rest of the day back at 8:15pm. but for this programme, goodbye. good night. good evening. atrocious conditions on the roads and still in the showers. some had you showers. northern ireland for example. this in northern scotland, beautiful skies. contrast that to the reins in
7:57 pm
a berkshire. the showers are being driven by the same area low—pressure giving us a wet spell in the last day. you can see the cloud is spiralling around this area up of a low—pressure, this vast area to the west. bringing in these bands of showers. notable across southern scotla nd showers. notable across southern scotland making its way north and the showers in the east as well will slowly clear out all the way. as the reins clear from northern scotland, we can see a touch of frost towards morning and even a bit apache mist and fog because the windfalls like here and in northern ireland. see also, there are more showers to follow. so here it will be relatively mild night once again but that means fortunately as a move into remembrance sunday to armistice centenary commemorations, there is a chance of catching some showers across england and wales, especially across england and wales, especially across wales, west and south and
7:58 pm
southeast of england and east anglia nuc around 11 aem it looks quite wet in some eastern areas. they were clear away from the cenotaph at that time but there is still some uncertainty to get that detail and asi uncertainty to get that detail and as i say before then if you are heading out, there'll be some showers. every showers and we saw the day with hail and thunder in perhaps more northern ireland and back into de vries and galloway into central scotland as well. may well be that cold start that gives us plenty of sunshine first thing across northern scotland. there are some areas would hopefully escape those showers but they cannot be guaranteed. even once the showers to clear out into the north sea, there will still be at smattering and the south and west but on the face of things it look what we see fewer showers in the afternoon for england and wales but more for scotland and later northern ireland. that is because we have this area low— pressure because we have this area low—pressure still close by which is starting to fail and become weaker. lots of showers in the west and possibly some rain closed by the 70s but some good spells in between. hopefully the weather will continue to calm down as a move further into next week. as ever, there is more

the website. this is bbc news i am carole walker. the headlines at 8pm. one of the key commemorations to mark 100 years since the end of the first world war has taken place in the north of paris. some 70 world leaders are in france for the centenary. here at home the queen and other senior royals attend a festival of remembrance at the royal albert hall. the former transport minister says —— mr sizemore ministers may resign and the prime mr posner present fans —— lands were sold a false referendum... you will not get the greater sovereignty. we will cede sovereignty and lose control over how rules affecting swaths of our economy are shaped. it's not the british parliament that will gain control, it is the french parliament, the german
