as it's announced he'll return to formula one eight years after a life changing crash. hooked! co—ca ptain dylan hartley will have to make his impact from the bench when england take on australia this weekend. and dare to zlatan — we hear from the great ibrahimovic, on his remarkable career and he's as modest as ever. the premier league should be happy i didn't come ten years ago, before i came. it would be a different story. also coming up in the programme: they're still on for the double but england's world champions must come past india later to make it through to final of the world twenty20. hello and welcome to sportsday.
6:33 pm
we start tonight with one of the most remarkable comebacks to elite sport in recent times. he's called it one of the greatest achievements of his lifetime, but eight years after nearly losing an arm in a rally accident, robert kubica will be back in formula one in 2019. he'll drive for williams, alongside british rookie george russell. i know what it took me to get here. takes to be one of the top drivers in formula 1. so now the question is, to work, to give me a bit of time and to focus on what is the part which i enjoy more, being a race driver. earlier, i spoke to former formula one driverjolyon palmer and asked him about the task facing robert kubica, in particular, what it takes to control an f1 car with physical limitations. there is a lot of stress on the
6:34 pm
body, driving a formula i car at gas. it is the limitation he has with his right arm, and formula i has power steering which makes it a little bit easier but still very heavy. the amount of controls on the steering wheel, there are hundreds of different buttons and settings on the buttons. you can't not really use your right hand for it, so he's going to be working on this, i'm sure, and fully aware of the limitations he has got. the oldest driver was super quick and super talented. if you can come back with a percentage of what he had, he will do well. someone who has been out of the sport that is so quickly changing, do you think you can come back and be rolling competitive?” think the car will be a big factor is always in formula i. the williams tea m is always in formula i. the williams team he has joined is always in formula i. the williams team he hasjoined our struggling this year, they are at the back. he
6:35 pm
needs the car to make a step forward. personally he has a difficultjob forward. personally he has a difficult job because he forward. personally he has a difficultjob because he has a young team—mate, george russell, on the cusp of winning formula to this year. it's not going to be easy at all for him he will be 3a next month. but he has worked so hard to get back to this level. he will need that mental strength going forward because the challenges only get tougherfrom here. because the challenges only get tougher from here. what does this say about williams going forward, after a disappointing season for them? what does the driver line—up, one rookie and this driver returning, what will this say about their next season? the boss of the tea m their next season? the boss of the team said they needed a fresh start andi team said they needed a fresh start and i think they did. i have had a woeful season. back in the day they we re woeful season. back in the day they were champions, they were running away with it in the mid—905. still reeling races into the early 2000. this sort of changes what they need to eternity around, had a really

promising rookie coming in, in george russell. 2—parter that you wa nt george russell. 2—parter that you wantan george russell. 2—parter that you want an established star. from the tea m want an established star. from the team point of view, it is a positive move, definitely. now, it's an important day for england women's cricketers at the world twenty20 in the caribbean. australia get things going when they take on the hosts west indies in the first semifinal... before england play india. the english are hoping to become double world champions here but there's a long way to go, asjo currie reports from antigua. they may paint a picture of calm but there is a nervous excitement bubbling. they are on the cusp of a second world cup final in a year. but afterfinishing behind second world cup final in a year. but after finishing behind the west indies, they now face india in the semis. i don't think we played our best cricket. we will play —— face different conditions here will have
6:37 pm
to adapt quickly. it has been tough with the rain and the preparations but the girls could not have responded better in terms of how they have gone about things. that's they have gone about things. that's the most pleasing thing when you are not playing your best but still finding ways to be in the contest. after claiming the one—day world cup, england now have the prospect of being in possession of both world titles, something they have not achieved since 2009. someone who knows how big a moment that would be is the team's former captain. really special. i don't think they will be focusing too much on that, they will be wanting to get through the semifinal. they have two massive games of cricket and then potentially double world champion. shading wind yet passed india they go on to face australia or the hosts and current defending champions west indies in saturday's final. —— should they wind notjust for the
6:38 pm
not just for the team notjust for the team but not just for the team but the notjust for the team but the whole of the west indies. they had the talk of the town. it should be of some inspirationalforce for the men as well. the dignity, the energy, it reminds me of the old days. this tournament has already broken new ground, it's the first time it has been held as a stand—alone competition away from the men's world 2020. but decision has been rewarded with sell—out crowds. another packed house is expected here tonight for the players —— and for the players it is an occasion to savour. well, practice makes perfect for england's batsmen and although they've answered the questions posed by sri lanka's bowlers on their way to securing a test series win, going into the third and final match. one question still remains, who should bat at three? in colombo tomorrow, jonny bairstow could be the fourth player to bat their in three games and captain joe root wants things settled ? it is not the perfect scenario,
6:39 pm
obviously you want to try to have that consistency, especially in your batting and have nailed down. we have not been in a position where we have not been in a position where we have managed to find that balance just right at the moment, but the exciting thing is we have found ways of winning games of cricket without bad. over time and over the next few months, if that can be done, it's another step in the right direction for this team. now, it's 15 years to the day since england beat australia to lift the rugby world cup and the two sides meet once again on saturday at twickenham. eddiejones was the australia coach back in 2003, now he's plotting their downfall from the other dugout and he's made a couple of bold selections. austin halewood has more at the touchscreen. the final test of the autumn is already here. both sides will be desperate to end the year on a high.
6:40 pm
england had coach eddiejones has made a bold call in his team selection. for the first time since taking over, he has dropped dylan hartley who is co—captain. he has dropped him forjamie george the saracens hooker. this is a significant move. just a year out from the world cup. george has been knocking on the door for a from the world cup. george has been knocking on the doorfor a long from the world cup. george has been knocking on the door for a long time but hartley has so much more experience, with 96 caps as opposed to his 31. now eddiejones insists he has picked his best team to face the wallabies. weeping australia will come out like they normally do, like a bull in a china shop. jamie isa like a bull in a china shop. jamie is a very good defender, very good when the players open. i think he sits out in that first period of the game. —— ease suits team news too concerning warren gatland's wales side and liam williams will start at full—back against south africa on saturday. the last few years of his career
6:41 pm
have been blighted by injuries and disciplinary issues. he scored 11 tries in his 26 caps. he is the kind of player who can completely turn a match on its head. we can see a perfect example of this now. back in 2012 he almost single—handedly destroyed the all blacks. his club team—mate was the scrum half that day. he will start at nine again on saturday and he knowsjust day. he will start at nine again on saturday and he knows just how much the selection will mean. the man is like an excited kid at the best of times. this is no different. he is certainly very excited. he has had to be relieved patient. he is —— he has trained ready well and just picked up that at the wrong time. i'm so pleased to see him out there. he certainly has got a big grin on

his face. jones knows better than anyone just how dangerous australia can be when they are backed into a corner. team news too concerning warren gatland's wales side and liam williams will start at full—back against south africa on saturday. he's the only survivor from the side that thrashed been head coach warren gatland also names the same pack that helped beat australia. great britain's women's hockey team have lost for a second time in the champions trophy in china. they were comfortably beaten a—0
