on a train in surrey. police are describing this incident as a "shocking and violent attack" as they search for the suspect. the foreign secretaryjeremy hunt warns russia not to use uk citizens as "diplomatic pawns" after a british national is held on suspicion of spying. new guidance says there is little evidence to suggest screentime is harmful to children — and parents are the bestjudge of how long they should spend on smartphones and other devices. let's go live to hear from superintendent paul langley with the latest details. you will be aware that british transport police and surrey police were called to horsley station at 1:15pm following a serious stabbing on—board a south—western railway train. it happened on the 12:58pm service from guildford to london waterloo.

tragically as a result a man believed to be 51 years old was pronounced dead on board the train. early indications suggest received multiple stab wounds. what we know at the moment is the victim boarded the train at around 1pm at london road station in guildford along with his 14—year—old son. dramatically, his 14—year—old son. dramatically, his son would have been nearby when his son would have been nearby when his father was fatally wounded. this would have been a horrific and hugely traumatic event to witness and we are providing him with as much support as possible. we know the suspect boarded the service at london road station but at this time we do not believe they are known to each other. we also may be suspect left the train service at clandon station. there have been a number of sightings in the area from members of the public and our inquiries are focusing on these areas. we have a number of officers in the area

in the local area to help reassure any concerned passengers and rail staff. thank you. that was superintendent paul langley. we've learned some new details concerning this attack. the police were called at 1:15pm with news there had been an attack on board the train. the train was travelling to waterloo station. a51—year—old man was pronounced dead on the train. he had boarded the london road station at around 1pm with his 14—year—old son. as we heard from superintendent paul langley, expressing the distress the young teenager would have been in after witnessing the attack. we also may be suspect also boarded the

train at london road station at the same time. but as superintendent langley said, they don't believe they were known to each other. a description has been given of the suspect. he's been described as black, in his 20s to 30s, he had a beard, he was slim and dressed in dark clothing with white trainers. it's believed he got off in the clandon area and ran towards the area. police giving that number to get in touch with them if they have further information. we know the man who died was 51 years old, he was pronounced dead on the train. he had boarded the train with his 14—year—old son at london road station. the suspect also boarded at

the kurds as terrorists, appears poised to move against them. but they're not the only group feeling threatened. with more, here's david campanale. armed militia, opposed to the syrian government and backed by turkey. they're preparing a holy war against the syriac christians and kurds of northern syria. if america draws its forces from the region, they intend to move in. syria's border with turkey remains a key flash point in the ongoing civil war, held by different factions. territory lying to the east of the river euphrates is held by an american—backed alliance of syrian kurds, syriac christians and local arab tribes. known as the sdf, the syrian democratic forces also heard territory to the west. but fearful of turkish investigation, kurdish fighters are reported to have begun withdrawing. they prefer the presence of syrian national army troops of president bashar al—assad.

will continue to feed around the high. where we had clear skies in the south—west, generally we'll see increasing cloud through the night. it might stay clear long enough to give a touch of frost in places. quite mild across the far north—west with winds from the atlantic. we are pushing these lumps of cloud around the chart, the best chance of seeing some sunshine in parts of the west country first thing. for eastern and north—eastern scotland and the north—east of england. those temperatures will struggle, at best getting up to 4—8 degrees. through saturday evening a bit of a change. we see this band of light and patchy rain moving across northern ireland. this is tied in with a weather front which will sink southwards as we get on into sunday.
