this is bbc news. the headlines at 11:00: it's once a general election now. it's because of the split within the theresa may faces pressure party itself, we know teresa may from within the government as senior vote sta nd party itself, we know teresa may conservative colleagues send a strong warning vote stand on she said she went about her brexit strategy. before the next general election, so for the tories, it's a question of after a week of resignations at westminster, labour faces another who leads us into the next general mp quitting the party — ian austin becomes the ninth labour election and the split within labour is obvious, they will be those who mp to leave — with a scathing like these in the story say there attack onjeremy corbyn. will be a number of mps who don't wa nt to will be a number of mps who don't want to see jeremy corbyn will be a number of mps who don't want to seejeremy corbyn as prime minister, and then you've got the there has been a culture of other supporters sat —— a mess of extremism and intolerance that has the split within the party make a general election a bit trickier than been allowed to develop, and anti—semitism that has been allowed to develop and flourish. normal. extraordinary times, let's mr corbyn said he regretted his departure — adding that he remained have a look at the daily telegraph, committed to tackling injustice and inequality. aaron campbell, the teenager martin, jihadijack, i miss my who raped and murdered six—year—old mother. this is a man as he was when alesha macphail, can now be identified — he went out to join i asked, and a fight with them, now another case of someone fight with them, now another case of someone coming back to the uk. very
10:46 pm
similarto someone coming back to the uk. very similar to the other case, somebody we nt similar to the other case, somebody went out and been out for several years, now obviously is in captivity, and the hands of the kurdish voices, and obviously has decided he'd rather not be there by the return to where he was letting before which is in this country interestingly, he has dual canadian nationality, and so the question arises to whether he will be stripped of his british citizenship are not in the family that the other one has but admit another stage. this is somebody has been out fighting with ijaz, it's not like obviously married to a jihadist, but he is someone who's been engaged in this. so it appears he's been at a different level we don't know what she was doing when she was there, we hear her account and so on, but yes, perhaps it's a more great the situation and fact. it's a huge issue because we know that there are hundreds of foreign fighters, many
10:47 pm
of them from the uk, but belgian as well in france and other european countries who have gone out to join i asked, and as a big question now, as they appear to be close to being defeated on the ground in terms of holding territory so what happens to the people. that is the big question he's not going to be the last who's going to want to come forward and say they want to return, but i suppose the issue is what markets they just —— just mentioned, suppose the issue is what markets theyjust —— just mentioned, i mean, is at the home secretary going to go down the road of stripping them of friendship and ship preventing the return or did they return and stand trial and face prosecution for like a big? say that this is obviously one of the issues that's going to i'm sure we'll talk a lot more about, but in his case possibly, it's a bit more start for the reasons we it's a bit more start for the reasons we have said and he says in the story he had a canadian passport, but then i think thatjust means that it we say he can't return
10:48 pm
been it'll bejustin trudeau's problem to decide what to do.“ been it'll bejustin trudeau's problem to decide what to do. if the same problem with begum, she has more connection to a candidate that she had to bangladesh despite her parentage, and it isn't really a solution tojust parentage, and it isn't really a solution to just displace to another country particularly if it's not going to accept them either, and they end up floating around in the middle east are somewhere else. they end up floating around in the middle east are somewhere elsem is illegal to make them stateless i think it's interesting with the dual citizenship. even if that you don't give them the status, and they go somewhere you to be efficient somewhere you to be efficient somewhere else but not get into the country as well potentially because they don't want to take you in, so people have got to take responsibility including this country for the people who pressed about by those who completely had british citizenship and really secondly probably other people, at least maybe not some of the who became naturalized, and start off by someone else, some of citizen, that's probably a different case in
10:49 pm
point, the proper connections with the country they came from, but most of them have to go back to where they came from really it'll be a difficult problem and a quest for a long time it was thought that these people are just fighting to death, quite a few have, and they still do, but it looks like quite a large number who now may have to come back. huge issue for many western countries are another story on the front page, police force denied a job to a white man, this is an interesting one. it is, this is the story essentially because one of the police forces had they are essentially non—white forests said this is candidate saying that it was positive discrimination he was denied a job to improve disk —— diversity, and i suppose issue is yet to equally qualified candidates a policy would promote diversity as the kind of tie—breaker but the issueis the kind of tie—breaker but the issue is i did a really equally
10:50 pm
qualified, and i think that's always theissue qualified, and i think that's always the issue when you want to talk about whether or not you're hiring the best qualified people and trying to change the overall mix of whether it's a police force, or any of the forest, i think this populates it very much but that's and copulated very much but that's and copulated very well, he's a natural physicist you got denied he studied physics and cosmology. difficult for police forces who know they've got to do more to ensure that forest is similar in its composition to the population that they are protecting. if that challenge and here in london and that voice has a big a challenge but that as well partly of the city is changing faster under their feet so is changing faster under their feet so to speak why they'll —— while they try to recruit says changing faster than they can change, but what you don't do is replace one form of discrimination with another form, and that is what happened
10:51 pm
here, like you say the equality act allows a tie—breaker decision to be made in the case at people of equal merit, you can appoint that one man, the ethnic minority whoever it may be from a discriminating group or underrepresented group in the past but what you cannot do is say we will pick said that even if they're an inferior candidate and that's what the tribunal here has ruled. let's just look at the front page of the times, helped by house giant faces lots of contract this is the latest big public contract to tell us more latest big public contract to tell us more about this. so this house builder is going to report a pretty impressive £1 million a profit and bear actually really in help to buy, they account for a huge number of homes under this scheme and so what you're finding is a few things in the story, which i think is why in the story, which i think is why in the review of how to buy which is coming up in 2021, a person may be
10:52 pm
in trouble so if for instance, it looks like there is an issue around standards of the housing they are building said the prophet for a home is actually increasing, there is also an issue of them offering ground rent to new buyers instead of giving them the freehold, and i think fred is reasons, this game is intended to help first—time buyers but i don't think it was intended to help house builders baked —— gain profit at the expense of buyers, subsidized by the government. there been questions asked about the scheme and whether it's the right way to tackle the problems people are facing getting to the housing market. at inflated prices that does help some people push the price and never thought it was a good thing, but also is a disgrace that this use of leasehold to sell increased numberof of leasehold to sell increased number of houses which each to be the case of the came from outside london like i did, you never think
10:53 pm
about it, most properties warehouse that were freehold, and it was just a flapping, and if you're selling a house that is to be no reason to do it other than making money and of course, at least people listen very disadvantageous and uncontrollable cost in the future, that's what's happening, and it seems a scandal that a company that's been using the government scheme to make all this money is operating that way and meeting people who are buying a house in good faith, suddenly and a terrible situation ongoing with very high cost. let's look at one of the story, back to the male, also the —— they're delivering £60,000 stamp price blunder it seems they don't charge as far stems. now, they were a week too soon, so there is a price cap until this i class stamps, and
10:54 pm
the 60p cap on it by the regulator off can sit as stated until it dashed off, stood had been till april the price that they raise the price a week to sin, and that's what's generated 60 thousand pounds —— profit, they could try to return to everybody, but that's impractical so they'll get it to a children's charity, but you do have to wonder, the press who set this price, probably needed a bigger diary and front of them, just to check the dates. it was not an april full deadline either. it seems extraordinary that they somehow overlooked the fact that there is a price cap they're not supposed to go over a. it's incredible who on earth was in charge of that decision because it's so incompetent. for now, martin and linda thank you both very much. that's it for the papers this hour — thank you to martin and linda —
10:55 pm
we'll be back at 11—30 with another look at tomorrow's front pages. hello there. for most of us, today developed into another unusually warm late winter's day. we got 18 degrees again, this time in west wales in the sunshine. if you were underneath that low cloud, misty weather along the south coast of england, it was nearer 8 degrees. and that misty, murky weather is moving its way northward, moving inland. at the same time, the low cloud that's been in the north sea is also pushing towards the east coast. so it's going to be the midlands, eastern parts of england that are rather grey, misty and murky overnight tonight. stronger wind, clearer skies for scotland and northern ireland. lowest temperatures are likely to be in wales and northwest england, down to about three celsius. let's head into the weekend then. in the morning, this grey start that we've got, not so much for london and the southeast, more towards the home counties, 0xfordshire through the midlands, lincolnshire and into parts of yorkshire. some mist and low cloud
10:56 pm
and some patchy fog, too. again, it will tend to lift and break up, and by the afternoon, we've got sunshine widely. ahead of a band of cloud, which is going to bring a little rain and drizzle across northern ireland, replaced by sunshine that'll edge its way into scotland, eventually later on towards westernmost parts of england and wales. not much rain at all. ahead of it, the sunshine in the afternoon is going to boost those temperatures again to around 15 or 16 degrees. that rain on that cloud is just going to fade away overnight. and we'll find the temperatures dropping very quickly in northeast scotland underneath the clearer skies. and with colder air coming in from the near continent, we may have a touch of frost in the southeast of england as well. again, some patchy mist and fog and low cloud, this time a bit further north actually, where the winds are lighter by this stage. again, lifting breaking sunshine for many parts of the country, although still a bit more cloud for northern ireland and western scotland. those temperatures again around 13—15 degrees on sunday. we've got a familiar weather pattern at the moment. weak weather fronts trying to come into the northwest of the uk, blocked off by this large area of high pressure.
10:57 pm
that high pressure is quite cold at night, and we're likely to find a greater risk of frost around early on monday morning. temperatures could be down to —2 or —3. away from northern parts of scotland where we start cloudy, a bit of light rain and drizzle. that weather front will get swept away northwards. sunny skies developing widely on monday. another lovely day to come, and those temperatures again 15 or 16 degrees. the fine weather set to continue for a while longer.
