goggles can let you interact with the same 3—d environments, but without the kind of uninterrupted connection 5g should provide, the experience will always fall short. so frustrating. this collaborative game is set up on wi—fi at the moment, the reason being to demonstrate how the haptic feedback isa demonstrate how the haptic feedback is a little bit delayed, whereas onceit is a little bit delayed, whereas once it is on 5g, well, it should all be happening at the right speed, exactly as i do things although i don't think it is going to improve my skills. and it can truly unleash the power of ar. we already have a! capabilities in our devices, image recognition, for example, helps to enhance our photos. i played a simple game which shows the speed that our devices can recognise object in an image. i am really trying my best here, but no matter how quick i feel like i am, the

millbrook proving ground, the place where cars and their components are put through their paces. but right now it is serving as a testbed for 5g, and what that could mean for autonomous and connect with vehicles. while 4g radios still need to be used at the moment, the rest of the trial sees movements and interactions tracked on a 5g network. it replicates what could in the future keep traffic safe and well managed. the number of cars today which have them in them, that will evolve into algorithms that help those centres connect. i think the really key thing is how are you going to use the data to be able to help make the end user's life easier7 help make the end user's life easier? and that is what is being looked at here. can we get the vehicle to be connected, can we make sure that we are transferring the data7 sure that we are transferring the data 7 can we sure that we are transferring the data7 can we do that in a safe and

secure environment, so that the data itself is secure? then can we make sure that the cars themselves are secure from each other, but also are they secure from unexpected events7 the much talked about low latency aspect of 5g means no delay, and thatis aspect of 5g means no delay, and that is of course vital when we are talking about moving traffic. this mclaren is travelling at 160 mph. but, ina mclaren is travelling at 160 mph. but, in a 200 metre radius, the cars would be able to wirelessly tracked each other, as well. even here, it feels like there were a lot of vehicles moving very fast, but of course, in the grander scheme of things, these are just a few. we are looking at all of the vehicles on all roads being tracked in this way, and that is a big job. when we talk about millions of devices to be connected to the network per kilometre square, then we talk about cars, homes, streets, hospitals, factories. what we have are

exploiting here, the technology, it parallel computing and parallel signal processing. so we have a large number of processing units in parallel, to do the number crunching in the mid— amount of time. in terms of ai, when we talk about the automation part of the 5g, when robots are connect that or devices are connect it, a! plays a very important role, in terms of understanding what the device wants to do, or what the device should be doing, and forecasting and predicting in future. but if all of these vehicles and all cars on the road are relying on that mobile phone network, what happens if it goes down? well, i think what we do asa goes down? well, i think what we do as a mobile operator is we continue to look at our network. we did suffer an outage with one of our partners and that was quite public. we are looking constantly at how we can make sure our network is more

resilient in the future, and i think one of the things that will come out of here is how do we make sure that the vehicle themselves are resilient, from a network with a view7 resilient, from a network with a view? before we reach a state of fully connected autonomy, though, 5g could have its work cut out on road and rail, providing more accurate live tracking and information. we know that from some of the work we have done on our smart cities report that from a train transportation point of view, rail sensors working on preventative maintenance can take out a50 million of lost productivity and that equates to about 2.6 hours per metre per year of time saved, and then from a road point of view, having a really good, connected 5g road management system could help ta ke road management system could help take out 10% of time waiting in traffic. and that, you know, for a 5.6 million commuters on the road, that would be a real saving. so many phones, so many promises. but do they all live up to what they are offering7 omar has been putting one

hello. the record warmth of the past week has gone, but it still won't be cold for the time of year this weekend, but it will be wet at times and it will be very windy at times too, even stormy in places. one area of low pressure passes close by on saturday. another rapidly deepening area of low pressure will come in on sunday. so spells of wind and rain, but it's this second system on sunday, named by the met office as storm freya to raise awareness of potential impacts, that's going to pack the biggest punch, if you like, and we'll get to that in a moment. saturday starts still a little damp across eastern parts of the uk, with overnight rain clearing away. plenty of mist and fog, beyond a patch to the north—west initially.

and many of us will brighten up for a time. but remember that first area of low pressure. here comes the rain from it quite quickly into northern ireland, western scotland, parts of wales, and all of that will push further east as we go through the evening. so if you're not wet by day, you will eventually see some rain out of it. now, the winds start to strengthen too. these are average speeds. gusts will be stronger for northern ireland into western and northern scotland, could see some gusts in excess of 60 mph here. now, going into saturday night, it's the western isles that could well see some gusts up to around 70 mph, plenty of heavy showers rattling through north—west scotland, snow to the higher hills, maybe some rumbles of thunder. whilst many other places will turn drier, the rain never really clears from southernmost counties of england. and this is as storm freya comes in on sunday, initially with some wet weather pushing northwards, though there is some uncertainty about how far north that will get.

now, how much of northern ireland and scotland will see the rain from this — it may not be too much rain in northern scotland, there will be a few showers around, but all the while the winds are going to be strengthening as well. that's the second part of storm freya, first the rain, then the wind, as the deepening area of low pressure takes a track right across the uk, with the strongest winds on the southern flank. and that brings them really across parts of england and wales, where the met office has this yellow warning area. so it will be turning windier, particularly towards the end of sunday into sunday night. initially around some irish sea coasts, the coast of south—west england, 60—70 mph gusts, maybe up to 80 in a few spots, and elsewhere through that warning zone, some gusts 50—60 mph as storm freya moves east. but there's still some uncertainty about the detail here, so still keep watching if you've got plans on sunday. all starts to push away on monday, just to a few showers and lighter winds.
