here in france that may be he is yearurging —— last the uk side is complying and if they another, we have to expect it. we opener saw him beat five men from leaning towards a shorter extension will try because, to convince him the irish taoiseach was here last year urging —— last week urging more one of the course of the season. the are not then maybe the extension can rather than the longer delay to the patients from the french side but but it's not easy. it's worth remembering it's a england'sjustin rose is hoping decision for the 27, that will take result of some up to third in the end of the year that donald tusk, to become the first world be brought to a close. it is not number one to win the masters the european council president has premier league. eden hazard only has just the french side who will been setting out. this morning, the in seventeen years. place at the european council summit one year left on his contract, and golf's first major of the year, decide, that will be a decision for at augusta national, in brussels. today, the europe europe ministers of the 27 countries starts on thursday and rose returned has been strongly linked with a move to number one in the world the 27 when they gather tomorrow in have been meeting in luxembourg. we ministers from the 27 countries have to real madrid in the summer.“ rankings yesterday. brussels for the european council we re tiger woods was the last top been meeting in luxembourg and adam summit, but those discussions will have been meeting in luxembourg. we were discussing the delay. michelle ranked player to claim fleming has been watching. the greenjacket back in 2002. be informed by the meetings taking barnier who is overseeing the negotiations says he hopes the don't you hate it place today and this morning, europe discussions between the conservative when you arrive early? theresa may appeared to touch down party and the labour party bears rose's only major victory came in berlin before angela merkel ministers were meeting in some fruit although like many eu has been strongly linked with a move to real madrid in the summer. it is impossible to find another eden at the us open in 2013. was ready to meet her, hazard. at the moment, there isn't luxembourg. don't you hate it when but the eu has been leaders he's not convinced. adam hanging around too, he's 38 now and has been runner—up the german chancellor and others waiting fleming has been the discussions. in two of the last 4 for the uk to say what it will do another. i you arrive early? theresa may masters tournaments. hazard. at the moment, there isn't another. lam hazard. at the moment, there isn't another. i am sure that the club appeared to touch down in berlin so can that number one ranking make with any extra time don't you hate it in the brexit process. doesn't want to sell him. he is in before angela merkel was ready to when you arrive early? meet her at the eu has been hanging theresa may appeared to touch down the difference for him? and that's what european affairs in berlin before angela merkel was ready to meet her, minister is arriving here in the last season of contract. if you around as well. the german but the eu has been chancellor and others waiting for luxembourg for a briefing on brexit the uk to say what it will do with hanging around too, the i haven't paid much attention to it. wa nt the last season of contract. if you want to have another experience, you german chancellor and others waiting want from the uk too. for the uk to say what it will do have to respect it. we will try, of a plan. any the uk to say what it will do with a ny extra the uk to say what it will do with any extra time in the brexit with any extra time course too convincing, but it is not from every diplomatic limo, the same process. and that is what european certainly the golf course doesn't easy. message. england‘sjustin rose is hoping in the brexit process. know who is the number one ranked to become the first world affairs minister is arriving here in of course, we still need clarity number one to win the masters luxembourg for a briefing on brexit player in the world, wa nt from the uk's side, the in seventeen years. luxembourg for a briefing on brexit want from the uk. a plan. for every you have to come in, prepare hard golf‘s first major of the year, and that's what european affairs at augusta national, minister is arriving here in and build a new body of work extension will be regarded starts on thursday and rose returned luxembourg for a briefing on brexit every time you tee up. to number one in the world want from the uk too. every time, the way i see it, upon by the government, of course. rankings yesterday. diplomatic limbo, the same message.

2:06 pm
keep the uk side in a sort of cause problems for the eu, on things decision tomorrow also hinges on ago on the last attempt to introduce assurances from the uk on a positive all. what has changed? like the eu budget or the putative transition where they would have no fault. but the government came up u nfortu nately, all. what has changed? unfortunately, due to a court some say within the european eu armour —— army somewhere down the decision tomorrow also hinges on parliament if they took part in assurances from the uk on sincere ruling, we are no longer allowed to cooperation so you see both in european elections but no real say line. he may grant a flexible with an unworkable proposal. this london and in europe the discussions segregate or isolate violent and negotiations are fringed by who extension but that would work two time around, its a much simpler in the european council of leaders ways, at the uk were to be might come after theresa may and can offenders in thejuvenile or within the european commission, proposal. i'm sure it will work and segregate or isolate violent offenders in the juvenile estate. that obviously is a big attachment go through. and it will help they guarantee here in europe that disruptive may be the eu would have to our members‘ health and safety, they guarantee here in europe that the uk doesn't stand in the way of so very stringent conditions powers to cut that extension short. the uk doesn't stand in the way of those are some things that are being and also other prisoners who do come attached to any longer delay. let‘s divorcing couples to start off as the reform programme that of course, discussed at the moment but of from. we are only talking about is a go to berlin and talks tojenny, and course it is for the 27 to decide as the reform programme that of course, the french president emmanuel macron amicably as possible, if that is minority of violent criminals at the one thing they are all agreed on is pushing. let's get some reaction a whole than they meet in brussels feltham who commit these offences. this if we get to the end of this possible, by not having to say you from berlin for it to reset tomorrow. that's get a feeling of are at fault. amelia, any critics of wires be seeing more of these week without the withdrawal what went on in berlin this morning. neighbours. we also speak to vicki agreement being agreed in london, let'sjoinjenny hill. youngin neighbours. we also speak to vicki young in westminster but let's go to this suggesting it is easier to things? is it just the uk side would have to take part jenny hill in berlin. what have the what went on in berlin this morning. let's join jenny hill. a what went on in berlin this morning. let'sjoinjenny hill. a rather change a mobile phone contract and wires be seeing more of these things? is itjust that?” in the european elections? it is an interesting statement from leader of german side been saying? we're being wires be seeing more of these things? is itjust that? ithink the house of commons this morning, get a divorce. and getting there but specifically feltham reflect saying it would be fantastic if the we haven't been through a divorce society, and when you consider what interesting point because actually german chancellor was to have a look is going on in the streets in london because by the time you've made the angela merkel has just been briefing told the conversation between at the backstop again. any decision, some tough things have theresa may and angela merkel was a at this time, feltham probably has mps from her own party and she has suggestion in berlin they are likely happened? completely agree. there to reopen the withdrawal agreement? confidential one and all we really the most difficult and violent are a lot of things that will have said that an extension to article know that they discussed their cohort of prisoners to manage. taken 50, which runs to the end of this are a lot of things that will have ta ken place are a lot of things that will have taken place before you make that prisoners don‘t stop being violent well, two things, the backstop, my decision so it's not as mutual desire to see brexit happen year or the beginning of 2020 might when they are incarcerated, they now be a possibility, but she has soui’ces well, two things, the backstop, my sources here said they would be very straightforward as deciding you're not going to be married anymore. in an orderly fashion. it was a continue with their criminality. we slightly awkward beginning to for also told them that it is quite surprised if angela merkel suddenly serious conversations, periods of started making changes to the the german press have already dubbed are dealing with young offenders and backstop. i think the suggestion juvenile offenders who are possible that any decision about the time, and various different responsible for knife crime on the from london are something like let's theresa may 's baking tour. theresa put a time limit of five years onto realisations that in certain streets, from muggings, for the uk's possible that any decision about the uk‘s participation in eu elections may only be made very shortly before it. that's not to say rule anything may arrived at the chancellery for a instances anyway, my own, you're not violent attacks on the general

normally angela merkel will be out at this particular point in the right for each other and this isn't waiting on the red carpet, she public. they come into feltham in europe goes to the polls, which proceedings. angela merkel is known the situation it's best for either wasn't there, i'm told it was to be very good at a last—minute of you to be in anymore. so you make that environment, and there is a throws far more uncertainty into the because theresa may turned up massive gang issue at feltham, with mix than perhaps some were compromise. with regard to the perhaps one of the most difficult unannounced several minutes early. withdrawal agreement itself, it is decisions of your life and then the either way she had to walk alone postcode going. so, you have to keep expecting. we know germany is in favour of a long extension and that true that i've spoken to at least two of you have to decide that one down the red carpet into the people separate from each other, that would mean the uk would one senior mp here who told me last must to blame? and in my experienced chancellery before angela merkel put otherwise violence expose, and probably have to participate, with u nfortu nate otherwise violence expose, and unfortunate that we can, we had in an appearance. pretty bad in week that were theresa may to come numerous assaults on staff, all the concerns that is raising, to the eu with a proposal which terms of symbolism, an improvement you're making that decision, not on the last visit went theresa may resulting in 13 receiving hospital realising that when you come to be but angela merkel acknowledging that decision, there are a series of couldn't get out of the car because treatment. i was quite surprised. we would allow her to get that deal actually a decision on its hurdles you have to jump through and the door appeared to be stuck but participation might be made right only found out about this yesterday. through the house of commons, his decisions you need to make, that there seems to have been a view was at least it would be near the end of the campaign will make an already quite difficult relatively relaxed mood. that is of i spoke with the government of something like a softer brexit, course because of all the eu 27 customs union, these were some of and challenging and emotional feltham this morning who updated me process , near the end of the campaign process, potentially. who is to say? situation even more challenging. on the things that were put in place it does rather suggest that a full the discussions coming out of leaders angela merkel is among those to curtail the violence, but as i westminster last week. were theresa politically where children are may to come forward with a proposal involved when you have a child. yes. who seems relatively relaxed about say, that ability to separate these like that which was in the eu 's an extension actually of any length for britain. this morning, her violent offenders is essential to favour and that is the crucial bit, —— particularly. involved when you have a child. yes. -- particularly. and that the good order and discipline of any relationship once you are divorce extension —— flextension which could thenit favour and that is the crucial bit, then it might be possible that the will still be an important one?“ europe ministry made clear that present, and we need that bacon. be stopped at any point could be eu would be open to opening up the is, and we were conscious that there germany is thinking and i'm quoting what i‘m saying is, don‘t segregate what they are discussing. that is will be a co—parenting relationship about an appropriate extension to what they are discussing. that is what they are discussing. that is what they will be discussing and i withdrawal agreement. there was a and one we want to be amicable and them and bang them up for 2030 hrs must say the mood from berlin is lot of f and but there but i think the deadline and also about a longer broadly speaking, certainly from the rather conciliatory and angela sta ble and one we want to be amicable and stable for our daughter. so as a extension although germany, angela berlin and the things, there is a merkel, will be wanting to know what of day. let‘s get the psychiatrist merkel seeming to be willing to result, anything that gets in the the purpose of these extensions will reach out to get that deal through and psychologist give them some way of that becomes negative and we be and of course, there are concerns real willingness to compromise so i and if she can‘t, to give her time wouldn't rule anything out at this stage although at the moment, no one really didn't want to have that but about the applications of a longer to come up with an alternative plan. therapy, and treat the records as it's very difficult having to go extension, particularly with regard

manchester city is one of the best teams in europe, not only in england. and then, of course, they are going to start the game very aggressive, trying to dominate and being aggressive. and of course, thatis being aggressive. and of course, that is a thing that we know very well. we have time to prepare the game, and we were talking about different situations that can happen from the beginning. we want to start being tough and aggressive, and put a high tempo on the game. liverpool play porto tonight — their first leg is at anfield. it‘s arguably a much easier quarterfinalfor them — they beat the portuguese champions 5—0 on aggregate in the last 16 on the way to last season‘s final. let‘s talk about eden hazard,

2:37 pm
babies when they are born. and now there‘s a fundraising effort to find out more about it. and alex lovelljoins me from bristol — and i‘m going to be talking to her about well. . . her. to mark national stalking awareness week she is, i might say bravely, talking about her experiences. so sofia, we‘re talking about young wilder and how he and his family are coping with a brain injury, known as hypoxic—ischaemic encephalopathy. tell us about that. as you said, it‘s a brain condition as you mention that affects one in 1000 births. there could be a trauma at birth, that could be because of a haemorrhage or an infection in the foetus, it could be because of poor circulation. that lack of oxygen and blood flowing to the baby during the birth causes hie. and when i was
2:38 pm
looking into hie, a baby may be showing no symptoms at birth, but the research and to bother the baby will be affected at school it is, that research is not there, and that is something that the princess anne hospital is trying to work on at the moment. and i met beth candle from dorset, and she told me about her child. see, wilder, these are nettles. wilder is almost three. he is very active, and loves to be outdoors, a moment his mum didn‘t know if she would see when he was first born. looking back on it, it‘s like a kind of horrible dream. it was really traumatic. wilder had a rare fetomaternal haemorrhage and lost 85% of his blood. this resulted in hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy, or hie, which is brain injury caused by oxygen deprivation. after the first night, in intensive care, his vital signs... you know, he was showing promise that he was surviving. wilder had to be transferred from poole to the princess anne hospital
2:39 pm
in southampton to be given special cooling treatment. this reduces the risk of a baby developing more serious conditions such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and vision loss. the neonatal intensive care unit here in southampton sees around 900 babies from around the south coast every year, and of those, it treats around 2a with hie. two years on, and beth says wilder is doing well, but still needs to be monitored. he‘s met all his physical milestones, and cognitively, he seems completely unaffected as well. but obviously, he still has that brain injury. so, it‘s just a wait—and—see, when he starts school, that kind of thing. keeping an an eye on his speech and checking everything is going right. that must be quite worrying, to not know what the future holds. it is worrying, and that was a lot of the anxiety. i mean, i had massive anxiety when he was born, and for the first few months of his life. here at the hospital,
2:40 pm
doctors are trying to find a way to provide an accurate long—term prognosis for children with hie. the mri shows us very nicely the extent of the brain injury that the baby may have sustained. and we can use it to predict severe neurodevelopmental problems, but we cannot use it at the moment to predict the long—term cognitive and behavioural outcomes. the project is being supported by the southampton hospital charity, and the team are now trying to raise almost £8,000 to fund radiographers to carry out additional longer scans. beth‘s doing her bit too. she has created this charity flower print to raise money for the project, and as a way of thanking the doctors who helped her son. he‘s a bundle of energy. he‘s so lovable and sociable, exactly the little boy that i imagined.
2:41 pm
and you‘ve been in touch with beth today, haven‘t you? sunset broadcast on the bbc, she has been contacted by mothers around the country saying they feel comfort in hearing about wilder‘s story, and also the hope that there is this research under way. and also, as jihad there, that is trying to sell her charity print this research. fantastic story. i‘m going tojust talk to about this, because i want to ta ke talk to about this, because i want to take you back to 2013. this was a greetings card to arrived at the office yeah, and it led to another number of greetings card arriving.

this person called himself gordon, and he wrote, and the topic of conversation from gordon‘s point of view, was always very inappropriate. it was extremely rich, quite pornographic. it was basically has fa ntasy pornographic. it was basically has fantasy playing out in the cards. so, they did come pretty regularly, and this went on for about three yea rs. and this went on for about three years. you are represented in a big region, you have a big fan club, and you get a lot of mail. but the tone of this change? it did. after four yea rs, of this change? it did. after four years, i was quite used to his card arriving, and i always kept them because they felt creepy, so they we re because they felt creepy, so they were ina because they felt creepy, so they were in a special draw, but one day a change. i got one at new year, and it said my new year‘s resolution is to have sex with you. make no mistake, if you don‘t comply, i will rip you. i immediately started

shaking. it was the threat, obviously, but it wasn‘tjust shaking. it was the threat, obviously, but it wasn‘t just that. that‘s what someone who had been consistently writing for such a long time, so obviously a bit obsessed, but then the fact that it changed so dramatically, and it just but then the fact that it changed so dramatically, and itjust felt really close and frightening. that went on for about three years after that. they called the police, and they were blogging. you want to your boss first of all, and when you first went to the police, because people were frightened of doing that. what was the reaction? they took it really seriously. the immediately took away all the evidence for fingerprints and dna, which they got, but the difficulty isa summary which they got, but the difficulty is a summary does not have a criminal record, they are not going to be on the database. but it took it really seriously. it was very difficult to unravel, because we had not comeback in finding this person. but i got a lot of support. all my friends were really supportive, and i think sometimes that is a
2:44 pm
difficulty. a lot of people have reached out to me and told me about circumstances that they are going through party thing, am i making a fuss? it is actually escalated, and they have kind of got used to it, and then they feel bad, maybe the doubt if they know the person to encourage them to start. it is really difficult to know when to call for help, and i think you have got to trust your instinct. if it feels creepy, do something about it. if you are starting to feel afraid, and somebody is influencing or changing your life through fear or obsession, that is clearly not ok. i‘m so stalking is illegal, so you have to reach out. it at that point, stalking, which can so easily be written off. at this changes lives. absolutely. i was so jumpy. written off. at this changes lives. absolutely. i was sojumpy. i written off. at this changes lives. absolutely. i was so jumpy. i was ok when i was at work. at home, we had cctv put oliver. travelling was a lwa ys cctv put oliver. travelling was always tricky, and i couldn‘t go out on my own. if i couldn‘t take

offence, i had to stay in. it changes your life completely. but of course, the thing with stocking is that it course, the thing with stocking is thatitis course, the thing with stocking is that it is notjust about dramatic things that we see in dramas and adaptations and in the news about hollywood stars. so, people who are at home thinking, i am feeling very intimidated, that is why i wanted to talk about this for stalking awareness week, because i know that it does not have to be that dramatic. it is anything that are starting to make a severe difference to your life and create this field as well. what you say to those who say, she is on television, she is bound to attract a sort of attention. well, stocking is illegal, and i don‘t think anybody deserves a happy crime committed against them, certainly. what i would say is one in six women are affected by this, and it takes up to 100 events, on average, for somebody to report it. so, if somebody is out there and they think itjust comes with the territory, please do not
2:46 pm
think that, and try and just insert script inside your mind and support people. i have also had people reaching out to me and telling me that when the duddridge collects, they have laughed about it and said, you should be so lucky about it. that is really not ok. if you‘re wondering who is outside your house at two o‘clock in the morning, that is not funny. that is a really serious situation. and one final thing, no matter what state you are going through. if your instinct is telling you, this isn‘t right, this is the best advice i can tell you from what i went through, firstly as for help, but second life, write everything down. stalking is an interesting crime, but how you feel is as important as any physical evidence or any event such a place. write down what is happening, how you feel, because one day, if it escalates, you won‘t be able to remember all those fans, and they are very, remember all those fans, and they are very, very important. and there was one sentence had sent a shiver
2:47 pm
down my back, when he said he was close enough to snog your care. yeah, and that frightened me as well, they‘re with us to smell your hair. this is what he was threatening, she was saying he has ripped before, he was saying he was going to rip me, he was saying he was close to me, he was watching me outside work. of course, everyone will reassure you, and you know yourself, you probably won‘t happen. but you don‘t know, and so you build up but you don‘t know, and so you build up to second—guessing picture in your mind of somebody who could be built like the sight of a house, and so on and so forth, and that is why it becomes a petrifying, because it plays out in your mind. but of course many people know the person stocking them, but it is very hard to know what to do about it. as for help. i know it is not easy to talk about, i admired you for doing it, and thank you very much for talking to us about it. thank you, simon.

million lifeline from mike ashley. as i understand it, it is because the offer was conditional on mike ashley being installed as the boss of debenhams, and that was somewhat unappetising to the lenders. so, the lenders have taken it on and put the company into administration. in summers, we are not surprised. this company had rocky road. they have had three profit warnings last year, the stock was down 85%. we have heard the story echoed across the high street, retailers not adjusting well enough to changing shopping habits, extensive leases on their backs. it is going to be restructured, but given pair it is at and what it has to get to, because it is going to continue being in business, but it has to get to in terms of being competitive in the retail industry, it is difficult to see it coming back to become viable. quite as mike ashley so determined to get a hold of it? he

does own house of fraser. i think the lender thought he might have a conflict of interest. burst on to america. they are planning to put new tariffs on european goods. bottom part is not likely to have in europe? it is not great for europe to be coming face—to—face with new trade tariffs, especially after the ones last year. european manufacturers and exporters are struggling, and we are here because the us has threatened to respond to subsidies that airbus are benefiting from, which they think are hurting boeing. but there is another side to that story, because in 2012, the wto ruled that point had subsidies to the detriment of airbus, and it has not done enough to remedy that situation. it is not surprising that these two regions are supporting their big aircraft manufacturers, andi

their big aircraft manufacturers, and i think in this case, it is pragmatic for them but to come to the table, sat down, negotiate instead of imposing tip tough measures against each other. and i think eventually they will get there. from the imf are saying that global growth won‘t be as quick as originally thought. des subsets of growth are granted in the last six months from imf. they know economic growth .2% for this year and 2.6 for next year. i think in the bigger picture, those are start this year and 2.6for picture, those are start this year and 2.6 for next year. i think in the bigger picture, those are stout decent numbers. we have to be careful not to become too pessimistic about the global economic outlook, especially as the risk that they have outlined have started to become a constructive, or more us federal reserve has opposed raising interest rates, and they tried to shoot between the us i did has been said that growth has decelerated, but she does not expect

an imminent recession. thank you for joining us. the ftse is not doing well. brexit fears playing a role. rolls—royce, they are in their cross hairs because of that potential action from the us, targeting ta riffs action from the us, targeting tariffs on eu and european goods producers. sports direct, its shares are going up, even though mike ashley has not been able to rescue debenhams. and wpp, the huge advertising company, doing really well there. that is because it is rumoured that one of the very lucrative units could be up for sale. thank you very much. let‘s just show you the scene once again in paris. the guards are at attention, which would suggest that we are moments away from the arrival of the british prime minister theresa may. she is on a bunch of last—minute brexit talks with the

leaders of germany. earlier, she met angela merkel in berlin, and the presence emmanuel macron of france. the uk at the moment set to leave the european union in three days‘ time, with brexit taking effect on friday. but eu leaders keen to stress that they do not expect that to happen. and theresa may in her meetings with angela merkel, and an expected meeting with emanuel macron, to urge both to back a request to delay brexit until the 30th ofjune. angela merkel, whilst not giving much away about your meeting, said a delay that front to the end of the year other starter 2020 was a possibility. she is seen as more sympathetic to theresa may‘s quest than she may expect from the french president, who has been fairly hawkish in saying that he

needs to know the exact details of the british proposals before he decides to accept whether to agree to extend the brexited deadline. and thatis to extend the brexited deadline. and that is important, because each one of those leaders has the opportunity to veto the request. i think the meeting... the arrival is not far off. as this goes on in europe, the cross— party off. as this goes on in europe, the cross—party talks in westminster carry on, aimed at breaking the impasse. those talks continue, but overshadowing everything, is the eu summit tomorrow, when all the eu states will vote on an extension. and without that, then friday postmark date becomes more important again. but there is optimism in the british cup that there will be some sort of extension are great. you can hear the sirens in the background, andi hear the sirens in the background,

and i am seeing pictures which show the convoy just turning and i am seeing pictures which show the convoyjust turning into the street where the palace is, so we will just about theirs for the arrival of the cars. if you have been to paris, this is the home of the french president. they talks with angela merkel, as i say, regarded as fairly positive by both those taking part. downing street saying that ms merkel discussed the request for an extension to the 30th ofjune request for an extension to the 30th of june with the request for an extension to the 30th ofjune with the option to bring this forward, of course, if a deal is ratified earlier. and that then shifts the focus to those talks between the government and the labour party in westminster. the prime minister and chancellor merkel agreeing on the importance of ensuring britain‘s cordially watch. it is well known that angela merkel very keen to avoid coming out of the

eu without a deal for the very keen to avoid coming out of the eu without a dealfor the uk. miss marco said eu leaders will discuss that idea mooted by donald tusk of the flextension, a one—yearflexible extension, and that is something else that could be on the agenda of tomorrow‘s summit. what is important about this meeting in paris is that if emanuel macron decides to disagree, to say he does not want to back that, well then, there are real problems for this entire process, because as i say, it only takes one eu leader to veto that process. i‘m hearing from us in finding a brussels corresponded earlier, that no maximum and extension that has been agreed, although december 2019 and march 2020 were mentioned. so, thatis and march 2020 were mentioned. so, that is the scene at the palace in paris. iam that is the scene at the palace in paris. i am told that theresa may is just less than minutes away. so,

while i go and so does cover, i will hand you over to huw edwards who has the news at five. it‘s 5 o‘clock. our main story is that with three days to go before the uk is set to leave the european union, theresa may is holding last—minute talks with the leaders of germany and france. the prime minister met chancellor merkel in berlin and is due to meet president macron in paris right now, as she urges both leaders to back her request to delay brexit again, possibly until 30 june. in the next few minutes or so, let me bring in my colleague, christian fraser. he is monitoring events for us. we expect the arrival
