now on bbc news it's time for sportsday. hello and welcome to sportsday, with me gavin ramjaun. the headlines this evening: the top two in european rugby go head to head. it's the champions cup final between leinster and saracens. jos buttler smashes the second quickest one—day hundred by an england player, but pakistan respond well in the second one day international in southampton. it's advantage aston villa in their championship play—off semifinal against west brom. they won the first leg 2—1 at villa park. also coming up in the programme: it's a hat—trick of pole positions for valtteri bottas as once again he gets the better of his mercedes team—mate lewis hamilton, who'll start tomorrow's spanish grand prix from second on the grid.

hello and welcome. the final of rugby's champions cup is taking place in newcastle with two heavyweights of the game going head to head. saracens up against leinster. leinster hoping to become the first side to win europe's top competition five times. saracens lead 13—10. leinster started strongly, tadhg furlong's try helping them to a 10—0 lead. but saracens were level at halftime, thanks to this converted try from sean maitland in the final seconds of the half. saracens have just taken the lead thanks to a penalty from owen farrell. sarries are unbeaten in the competition so far this season. but leinster have won the last three encounters between the sides in the champions cup.

the iaaf world relays are being held in tokyo this weekend. it's the fourth edition of the event, which takes place every world championship year. and it was a great start for team gb. the women's 4 x 400 team qualified for the final, bagging the second qualifying spot, after poland caught emily diamond in the last few metres. the men's 4 x 400 team also qualified, after finishing third in their heat. but team gb didn't qualify for the mixed 4 x 400 final, after their heat was dominated by canada, germany and kenya. the mixed four by four is a new event, and it will be included in the 2020 olympics in tokyo. gb men, however, did make it through, beating both brazil and jamaica to win their heat. and they crossed the line in a world—lead of 38.11 the reigning world champions last medalled at the world relays back in 2014, when they won bronze. britain's women failed to qualify, and will now have to rely on world rankings if they are to qualify for
