online travel platform. on the front of the times, online clothing retailers are fighting back against shoppers who continuosly return items they have ordered. some stores are going as far as banning some customers from their websites because of the number of clothes that they order with little or no intention of keeping. and finally on the express website, eurovision 2019 is finally upon us, and the first round of performances have ta ken place at the semi—final in tel aviv, israel, with millions of people tuning in to watch the world's biggest singing competition. with me is james hughes who's chief market analyst at axi trader a brokerage firm. i haven't seen you for a while. i haven't seen you for a whileli know. and we always seem to talk about brexit. no surprise. a vote in june but the question is, what are
5:46 am
we voting for? i think the general public, reading this story, will have the collective face palm to see another vote is coming out and we do not actually know what the vote is for. the assumption is that it could be another round of these meaningful vote that theresa may has tried to push through without success. we are not any further down the line than we have been in the last few months andi we have been in the last few months and i think that would be the frustrating point. until we know what these votes are on, it is a very ha rd what these votes are on, it is a very hard for anyone to give an opinion because it seems like the same old same old. labour are unhappy that theresa may is not moving on her redline and she seems to be stuck on a position to try and
5:47 am
get this withdrawal through. she made the announcement after more negotiations with jeremy corbyn which do not seem to have made any progress. before the summer recess, the weeks that followed, the question is, what hope is that she got because it would look like those discussing labour conservatives, cannot find a middle ground. there doesn't seem to be anywhere anyone is moving to. we heard earlier in the week that there is this issue of almost a second referendum for half of labourmp to almost a second referendum for half of labour mp to back any sort of deal. these issues are there but you also have the local elections, the european elections where both the conservatives and labour party are
5:48 am
getting trounced, the european elections which seem incredible we are fighting them. nigel farage and his brexit party is gaining support. you cannot seem to find anyone to blame except for theresa may and geremy corbin and their party. we shall see. let's move the independent which is looking at how the uk economy is doing and once again we are seeing is the latest jobless number at a 44 year low. unemployment fell to 1.3 million, the lowest since 1974, but more people are living in poverty now. we have heard these stories before in the discussion of zero hour contracts and things like that, a lot of people in part—time work.
5:49 am
these numbers take that into account. you're looking at an unemployment picture which is improving which is positive, the other side is that wages are increasing which is also positive, increasing which is also positive, increasing at a much sharper rate than what inflation is rising but that... you have to look at two sides. you look at bonus numbers, microcosm is of the economy getting bigger bonuses. if you take bonuses out, the increase is not quite so much. when wages outstrip inflation thatis much. when wages outstrip inflation that is good for the economy. you need spending and lending for a good economy and they only spend money if wages are good. with the unemployment rate so good, it means those looking to hire have to work harder to get those people on board,
5:50 am
thatis, harder to get those people on board, that is, offer people something more attractive but what is the quality of these jobs and the security? job security is one of the big things. a lot of this is part—time at work and flexible hours as well. the conflict of that is that a flexible contract is not as stable. chinese tourists shun the us for europe. no surprise at all. given the trade wall. sliding into 10th spot, the us. this is for the week—long holiday in 2018. donald trump is at the... the continuous rhetoric is tariff after tariff after tariff and pushing china to the edge. you cannot be surprise. what is interesting is
5:51 am
where chinese tourists are going which is europe, one of the key areas, the uk but notjust that, it is the spending power of the chinese when they come over on holiday and the expectations with 160 million overseas trips expected next year, they expect chinese tourists to spend $350 billion... you could see whenever you travel around cities, you can see all the translations into mandarin and what have you. in the uka into mandarin and what have you. in the uk a huge push to make sure to be chinese tourist friendly. you said in paris, berlin. they have financial power. the times, no going back. returns banned. this is for those shoppers who are seemingly, when they buy stuff on line, nearly
5:52 am
99% of it is return and they are being identified. it is interesting because there are two sides to it. the one side that you buy an item of clothing on line, you do not know what size will fit you so you buy all the sizes and send back the ones they do not want. 0therwise all the sizes and send back the ones they do not want. otherwise you spend four times the price... you have too much money, james! also instagram and social media which shops are blaming because people are relu cta nt to shops are blaming because people are reluctant to wear the same item again and sending it back after they wear it. but is that a new thing?” think there is a new wave of that kind of behaviour. listen, what is your thinking on the eurovision song contest? were you watching the semi—final? contest? were you watching the semi-final? i was not but i am close it fan of the eurovision. we always
5:53 am
have a final. i think there is something great about it. from the uk point of view, terry presenting it, now graham norton doing it. it is funny, tongue—in—cheek. but what is funny, tongue—in—cheek. but what is interesting here, of course last year we saw australia anything eurovision. .. she is performing right now. it is an incredible performance. i have yet to set but i'm looking forward to see it on the the final. australia seem to be the one at the top but my money is not one at the top but my money is not on the uk. i know, i know but you never know this could be the year. we have been saying that for the last 20 years. it has been quite a long time but it is a bit like the foot well, 1966. —— football. just
5:54 am
to say, we have been hearing from you. one of you says you are supporting or you believe switzerland could be the winner of the eurovision song contest and many of you in touch about facial recognition. we haven't met if you are saying that basically you feel that may be the decision on the part of san francisco is a bit behind on the times. 0nce of san francisco is a bit behind on the times. once you saying it the only city that will be... and it will be the last centre to do this because they will need to change their minds because they will need to move with the new technology. another view saying it is a huge disaster waiting to happen, facial recognition, because there is so much wrong with that. i will see you very soon.
5:55 am
hello again. we have got another fine sunny day coming up today before the weather begins to change. now, on tuesday, the warmest spot in the country was again scotland, where we had temperatures of 24 degrees celsius in drumnadrochit, which is by the shores of loch ness, in highland. but by the time we get to the end of the week those temperatures are on the way down. it's going to turn cooler and cloudier. we'll be looking at highs at best of around 18 degrees for friday. so you will notice the change in the weather for sure. for the time being, after what has been a warmer day, those temperatures are slower to fall. it will still turn fairly cool across parts of east anglia but otherwise those temperatures holding up a little better than they have done over recent nights. 0ur area of high pressure is still with us and it is going nowhere fast. just slipping a little bit further northwards. the isobars tending to ease apart. so if anything, there will be less of a wind blowing across east anglia and south—east england, where coastal areas were kept a little bit cooler on tuesday. but for wednesday those winds a little bit lighter. again, with the winds circulating in a clockwise sense, we will get the warmest air pushed up to the north and west of the uk
5:56 am
but it's another one of those days where for many of us there will be sunshine from dawn to dusk, perhaps just a little bit of cloud developing and bubbling up across the pennines and maybe also the mountains of scotland. in the best of the sunshine, the warmest parts again likely to reach 24 degrees celsius although fairly widely we're looking at temperatures into the high teens to low 20s. so another fine looking day coming up on wednesday. looking at the charts then towards the end of the week, we start to see some changes. an area of low pressure that has been bothering central europe recently, sneaks a little bit closer. the isobars get a little bit close together as well. so we will have a stronger easterly breeze blowing across these eastern shores of scotland, eastern parts of england. that will tend to knock the temperatures down. but as well as that there's likely to be a little bit more cloud around, maybe a few showers dotted around across the north and west. otherwise it's mainly dry. but the temperatures, you'll notice, generally into the high teens rather than the 20s. that trend into slightly cooler weather continues on into friday. still quite a bit of cloud around. there could be a few splashes of rain here and there.
5:57 am
probably the best of any dry weather and sunshine towards the north and west of the british isles. scotland probably having the best of it. those temperatures, well, quite a bit cooler. looking at highs between 13 and 15 degrees celsius for our towns and cities. now, on into the weekend, it looks like it's likely to be quite an unsettled kind of weekend, cooler and cloudier. there will still be some sunshine around but i think there will also be spells of rain for some at times. that's your latest weather.
