committed to the national team. i will certainly be 100% committed. and as part of our change the game season we look at a possible link between periods and the increased risk of serious injury. good evening. the cricket world cup starts in nine days time. england, the hosts, taking on south africa at the oval. it's a long tournament and england think that their best chance of going the distance and making it through to the lords final onjuly1lith is with jofra archer in the side. that's the biggest talking point that came out of today's squad announcement. here's our sports correspondentjoe wilson. sometimes in cricket things move quickly, sometimes. fast bowling is what
6:33 pm
jofra archer does. in the matches, he is exceptional. he qualified for england in march, he is in the world cup now, and to make way, david willey, an england regular, has been dropped by the selectors. it is clear he brings different things to the squad and we all saw that in advance for that than what happened when he had opportunity in an england shirt, i thinks he needs to show what he's capable of. i think it isjust to show what he's capable of. i think it is just broaden the understanding that he is a special cricketer. it is one of the toughest decision that i have been a part of, when you are together as a group for so when you are together as a group for so long and have been on this journey and shared memories together, making tough decisions for the benefit of the squad, i think it is the way you look at it. england

one—day cricketers have just won four games against pakistan and for the world cup they also brought in liam dawson, a spin bowler, who was not even part of the squad for those games against pakistan. the expectation is clear, this year for the first time england should win the first time england should win the world cup. and basically that is whatjofra archer the world cup. and basically that is what jofra archer is the world cup. and basically that is whatjofra archer is there to do. this england squad is the best i've seen, the best opportunity in my time. iwas seen, the best opportunity in my time. i was a youngster in 19921 remember watching the final. there isa remember watching the final. there is a reverse swingers for that this england side have and the right to be favourites because they played really good cricket. they got to the semifinals two years ago in the champions trophy full stop they need to use that as a positive experience stopjust be smart. lloyds was manicured towards perfection today and it would seem empty without england. in the world cup final.

come mid—july. one of the greats of formula one, the three—time world champion niki lauda has died at the age of 70. he was badly injured in 1976, suffering serious burns when his ferrari caught fire in a crash at the german grand prix but he returned to the track less than two months later and went on to win the title two more times. he has been an inspiration to so many in motorsport, here are just some of the tributes that have been paid today. another great driver and another legend of the sport will no longer be able to join us legend of the sport will no longer be able tojoin us in legend of the sport will no longer be able to join us in future races in the paddock and i'm very sad because i've lost someone i called a friend and likewise i think he would have called me his friend. with his fighting instinct to never give up,
6:36 pm
ido fighting instinct to never give up, i do not think there are many bigger inspirations than he was in that respect for the his passion and his way of bringing people back together after disputes. and also i'm thankful for his patients that he had with us young guns when we were racing for him. i chatted to him in a mercedes garage and he had so many kind things to say about me and he really i guess could relate to my situation and the determination to get back to motorsport after having a serious accident. more now from another three times world champion who raced against niki lauda, sir jackie stewart thank you forjoining us. jackie stewart thank you forjoining us. sad it is for the reason it is but niki was a great man and a great man within the sport, notjust as a racing driver but with regards to the mercedes team. he will be sadly

missed by them and of course a great many other people around the world. a great austrian and a real hero over there and rightly so and a good friend of mine. some wonderful tributes paid today, a huge figure in the sport, itjust reminds you of that and you have called him the bravest after that horrendous accident that defined his career and him asa accident that defined his career and him as a person i suppose. yes, it was just a him as a person i suppose. yes, it wasjust a huge him as a person i suppose. yes, it was just a huge accident, it looked like a mechanical failure, was just a huge accident, it looked like a mechanicalfailure, he was just a huge accident, it looked like a mechanical failure, he was trapped in the car and the client was on fire. it had been a high—speed accident at the same time. several drivers helped get him out of the car. he was still badly burned but i think what happened with the inhalation of toxics as well as heat, that is the cause of him now no longer being with us because great work was done to allow
6:38 pm
him to live. he died twice i understand at the time, i was around at that period. and he got jump—started twice. and here he came through it all, he came back to racing probably with the bravest performance i've ever seen when his head was still breathing. he put his crash helmet on and went out in the ferrari at monza and made a good time and came back in and i was there when he took it off and he was badly bleeding and must have been in considerable discomfort and pain. yet he went back out again and in fa ct yet he went back out again and in fact he raced. few people would ever have done that, niki lauda was so single—minded about what he was doing. and he really turned ferrari around at that time to be really successful. and then of course he started his airline very

successfully and with toto wolff, he may made a greatjob of mercedes—benz, totally dominating the sport now for a good four or five years. so we are all very sad at him passing but he was in great discomfort for quite a long time because he lost both of his lungs, they were replaced and of course seemingly they did not last long enough and sadly we have lost him. he had been in very ill health for a number of months. he was so influential after his racing days, you mentioned his time at mercedes but in the paddock helping, shaping so but in the paddock helping, shaping so many young drivers and their careers, he was influential in putting lewis hamilton on the current path he is on. for sure, it was important times and his influence in the sport was big, he was a quiet man but when he spoke people listened. he was a character.
6:40 pm
he was the same with everyone, whether a monarch or a mechanic, niki was there. we had a good friendship, i raced against him, touring car racing to begin with and i remember the moment when he was driving a bmw and i was in a ford cortina. ijust driving a bmw and i was in a ford cortina. i just could driving a bmw and i was in a ford cortina. ijust could not keep up with him, he was hot and that was before he got into formula 1. then of course i saw him at the beginning of course i saw him at the beginning of the formula 1 era. it was my last season s0 of the formula 1 era. it was my last season so he was of the formula 1 era. it was my last season so he was not of the formula 1 era. it was my last season so he was not up at the front at that time but just getting started. but my goodness did he reach the top in a very big way. many thanks for sharing your memories of niki lauda. arsenalforward henrik mikhitaryan won't travel to azerbaijan for next week's europa league final against chelsea because of fears over his safety.

he is from neighbouring armenia and the two countries have a long history of conflict. he missed a match in baku earlier in the campaign for the same reasons although uefa say that his safety would have been guaranteed. we cannot do anything about this issue, it is a very personal decision. and we need to respect him. ido decision. and we need to respect him. i do not understand these political problems but i must respect his decision. earlier i spoke to our sports correspondent david 0rnstein. the background to this is the political problems between azerbaijan and henrik mikhitaryan's

home country of armenia, there are no diplomatic relations between them because of a long running dispute over one region for that azerbaijan does not allow for nationals of armenian descent to enter the country normally. we've also seen some british armenian citizens who are arsenal supporters who have struggled to gain entry for this match so that is where this issue is going from a wider level. in the top of this uefa have been underfire for the finaljust being where it is, with limited tickets for chelsea and arsenal, very difficult to get to in baku and expensive. but uefa and azerbaijan authorities to say they would have guaranteed his safety? in response to the decision from arsenal today and from ten to u efa from arsenal today and from ten to uefa released a statement and they say that they sought and received assurances regarding his safety in azerbaijan from the highest authorities in the country. they

also say they had put a conference of security plan in place and they had delivered that to arsenal but that it was a personal decision of henrik mikhitaryan. we've also since heard from the azerbaijan foreign ministry, a spokeswoman talking on their behalf said he was more than welcome to come and that many armenian sportspeople to take part in activities in azerbaijan however you should not mix sport and politics is what she said. and his decision was entirely up to him. so i think arsenal and henrik mikhitaryan would dispute that, it isa mikhitaryan would dispute that, it is a sad story for a player who has played in 11 of the 1a europa league games for arsenal this season, more minutes than any other midfielder in the competition. he scored in the europa league final a couple of yea rs europa league final a couple of years ago were manchester united with a winner is in stockholm but they will not be helping them in baku a week on wednesday.
