hello and welcome to sportsday. just over month to go now until the rugby world cup injapan. and this afternoon, eddiejones has announced his 31 man squad for the tournament — almost 4 weeks before the deadline. there are a few familar big names missing from the squad today. dylan hartley, the co—captain under jones, isn't among them. has not played for england since december. and ben te'o, another man who many hoped could shine in the tournament isn't there — he was said have been involved in a bust up during a team bonding session in italy, delight for others though — with rory mcconnachie named in the squad — the only uncapped player. a year ago he was playing 7's rugby. and, lewis ludlam makes it — the flanker won his first cap in yesterday's win over wales, along with willi heinz. jones explained why he chose to name his squad early, with nearly a month still until the deadline.

there is the call at two for him and all the more specialfor there is the call at two for him and all the more special for him, there is the call at two for him and all the more specialfor him, he there is the call at two for him and all the more special for him, he was playing sevens rugby. experience heads are among the 31. 0wn farrell, george ford and it is a squad with newer faces whichjones which jones feels can whichjones feels can improve the team. it is always nice to bring in new blood, and freshens everything up. when you have that enthusiasm, as young players do, and helps add to the squad. rory we have been watching closely through the cub day clu b watching closely through the cub day club season and was impressed by him and once he came in, it cemented our impression of him. very good work and good communicator. plays a number of physicians, and lewis absolutely gave... watching pulled the club rugby, he did particularly well. it is a role of the dice and

bring and what he could offer and every week he has gotten better. i think she displays onlyjust every week he has gotten better. i think she displays only just that every week he has gotten better. i think she displays onlyjust that is start of his career. i was fighting for a club contract and if you told mei for a club contract and if you told me i would be in this position and go to world cup, i would tell you you're crazy so obviously a lot of work to do and really got to take on now but it has been a crazyjourney so now but it has been a crazyjourney so far. three months ago i would never have thought of that so it is pretty cool, once it settles and and you start getting messages and hearing well then, it is pretty awesome. something i don't want to forget. leading up to the first cap will be nervous, my first timeframe for that team but once you're on the page and you have on the with the slides, and it will be a cool moment. i rugby reporter is there and was

joined to talk to the squad. down in bristol where they base their second of warm up games and just digesting that team announcement, squad announcement and absolutely announcement, squad announcement and a bsolutely loves announcement, squad announcement and absolutely loves to look at. the real bull tears in the squad and one of the glaring omissions. here with the farmer england winger, let's start with that squad. some players we would not be anywhere near a few months back. mcconaughey with his sevens, a phenomenal second half of the season and heading into japan and the fact that his form for northampton has been worded with another sport and what a brilliant game that he had on debut and started singing the national anthem
6:37 pm
and it is going to be absolutely thrilling for those two. quick word on those new faces and lack of experience but no ben te'o and he was involved in an incident with italy and injury problems, surprising to see him? we have a play pull in the world so there will be just as many disappointing guys as it tries to be on it and he has falle n as it tries to be on it and he has fallen out of favour with eddie jones, whether it is off the field or onto it but i would rather focus on the ice who are going. very good game once again yesterday and it seems like a lot of these northampton players actually, i have been brilliant and really had a second one this season so ashamed for him but lots of happy season faces. while cubs are won by experienced teams and there are experienced teams and there are experienced players but others are not going and it is a raft of fairly
6:38 pm
new faces and is this a risk, or ideas are the players who will win the world cup? it is anti-experience but we talked about eddie gentoo has been around the block this is the fourth world cup he has been two and he certainly knows what exactly he is doing so for me i really like the blend of experience as well as youthful enthusiasm and we saw in the opening 20 minutes against wells yesterday, a huge amount of opportunity for these guys to create history from themselves and there might be a lack of experience at times but not a lack of quality. eddiejones are going really early but this squad announcement and the rest not naming theirs until september and will it be that 31 that makes the plane to japan, we will have to wait and see. but we will have to wait and see. but we will talk about it later. to more world cup squad news, a setback for wells, they feared the worst when you went off at

twickenham yesterday and they confirmed today that he has damaged me recommends and is out of next month's tournament in japan. andy murray returns to singles tennis action in around an hour or so at the cincinnati masters. the two—time wimbledon champion plays competitively on his own, for the first time since undergoing hip resurfacing after the australian 0pen earlier this year. 0ur tennis correspondent russel fuller is there for us. good to see you. how much anticipation is there to see him in action in the singles for the first time ina action in the singles for the first time in a long time? i think among the players on the tour there is a great deal of excitement and that because he is one of the greats of the last few years and he is very popular to have on tour whether you ask the man on the atp tour or a beat when, and i think many players hoped he have a rehabilitation. and

in the united states with his comeback match, as you would expect because it is not a miracle but something that we perhaps thought would not happen. and murray himself thought his career might well be over when he played that match against him and january but after the second hip surgery it is official now where he can make his tentative singles return. what is a realistic achievement for him in this tournament and also potentially if he does decide to compete and singles and the us open as well?m you were to win today and he also had a surgery this year and it would be back on tour, it would be a very tough match for him but a win would bea tough match for him but a win would be a bonus and he could of course see the french about runner—up and it would be about enjoying the experience and he thought he might

never experience this again and it is about testing the hip out and singles. really praying the us open, iam not singles. really praying the us open, i am not so sure, it is a very early combat but he has booked two appearances in china at the end of september so if he can play four or five tournaments between now and the end of the year and he had still feels great, you cannot ask more from the start of 2020. we saw that emotional press conference at the start of the year when he was really careful about saying he would not be around for much longer in terms of professional tennis is there much surprise from your and tcm competing now and still looking like he could get a real go? his assessment in january was that he could wrap himself and will and try to get one final appearance and it is no surprise he chose to go down the

second surgery route. i think once he had the operation, he thought well no one had this operation and try to come back so why not? how much can he achieve? the last time we heard about this it has been going very well. has had top ten in the world is probably unrealistic, top 50 or top 100 may be but we shall see. i think he does not have any shall see. i think he does not have a ny targets shall see. i think he does not have any targets in his mind that he is seeing with considerable talent can ta ke seeing with considerable talent can take them, even if he is not quite as explosive or quite such a good move 01’ on as explosive or quite such a good move or on the court again. in cincinnati for us. still to come on wednesday. he went ever w series hopes to dojust on wednesday. he went ever w series hopes to do just that. it is fantastic and i am very proud,

having been part of that and also taking the first crown. 0n on to cricket now and the ashes series resumes with england down and two significant centuries from steve smith. it went to a victory at edgbaston last week. could the addition of archer be the difference? the aussies feel they could get the best of nab is playing. if selected i will be probably be open but for now i am not selected. it will be if you play. not selected. it will be if you play, a new thing for you, bowing over five days and in this press conference, you thought it might wear you down, what you think of that? you have to see me play first, i usually pull

over his anyway, so he has another thing coming. the biggest surprise is the inclusion of the veteran, she played at eight so nine cups but is currently ranked 620th and the world after taking time away from the torah to have a baby. there are four english women in the 12, bronte law is emerging on the european and us toys this event to make season —— you toys this season. 0thers toys this event to make season —— you toys this season. others have put their places due to the world rankings. the other wild card pic is the french women. the us have won the french women. the us have won the last piece on nine cups but europe are trying for the last two times, it was staged in scotland. everyone is really excited about it and those qualified

automatically and it is more stressful for others. we had a great day out there this morning plane come up with perfect weather and it would be nice to have that in september but i think we all enjoy the golf course and it is looking to be in fantastic shape so we are all very excited and cannot wait to get back here in september. we will see how they get on. the pga tour is reviewing its pace of play, after being criticised for playing solely. he took more than two minutes to set the mac had a 70 yard chip. and an eight yard pipe and there was plenty of criticism from other pros including ian poulter who tweeted there are a few players to continually disrespect their fellow pros and continue to break the rules without a conscious. it should be self policed but this will not happen. so disappointing and has not been stopped. the pga champion ship

when i said if you do not do something about this shame on you. asa something about this shame on you. as a member you are outraged you can tolerate this. protect the field by analysing or disqualifying this type of behaviour. and a half. 0thers have apologised for initially calling him a single—minded twit over the weekend. tsn said that it is unnecessary and something i should not of said. as for in him, he has defended how he played while saying that when people talk about slow play and i am telling the game, thatis slow play and i am telling the game, that is complete and utter you know what. we are trying to do our best and make our livelihoods. when you start attacking people on twitter it is like come on do, speak to my face about that. strong words about that.

could winning the first w series b the women into the sport. britain's jamie chadwick, wants that to happen — she won the inaugual women's only motor racing series event. coming 4th in the final race at brands hatch. chadwick — who's a development driver for the williams team in formula one — has her eye on ultimately competing in f1 — becoming the first woman to do so since 1967. but feels her win can start to open the doors for more women to get involved. she spoke to me earlier on. the championship was never in doubt for me i always felt like i had the 0k for me i always felt like i had the ok because my closest rival had to be in the top two minimum to have made an impact on whether she wanted it or not but it was a tough race andi it or not but it was a tough race and i went out from paul as fairly co mforta ble and i went out from paul as fairly comfortable in front and then i had three goals behind me with nothing to lose so it was tough at times but it was a bit bitter sweet and i would've loved to when that race and finish the championship on the high but i could not be happier to secure the championship. it is a lovely

flagship moment for yourself and your career right now and what are the next realistic steps for you in terms of progressing as a driver. formula 1 is the ultimate price, how fast can you get there from this when? i think it is ultimately the goal and i have a great relationship with the formula 1 team as a development driver and i think i am trying to get on the door as soon as ican trying to get on the door as soon as i can but i don't want to rush the process and i am a few years away from it and i want to step up and progressed like i need to and be there because i am so post to give it second check to make tester so i look forward to the next three years especially and hopefully you can knock on the door sooner. that role with williams as a development driver, what have you learned from that stand in terms of how you have been able to seal this when? honestly so much. the amount you can
6:49 pm
ta ke honestly so much. the amount you can take from a formula 1 team is unbelievable and obviously mumbles has a huge amount of infrastructure andi has a huge amount of infrastructure and i am able to maximise and utilise that i likely, the team are fantastic and i can do a lot of work behind the scenes in the factory especially and take as much as i can find them so it is fantastic and i really do think will help me this year and my progression. would you be able to open the doors for better representation for women and motorsport not just as representation for women and motorsport notjust as drivers but other roles within teams. exactly that and the roles are huge and i already see in my series, we have mechanics and engineers and it is fantastic to see and female commentators and so i think it is fantastic but the roles becoming more open and in our sport and i think the w series is definitely reading the way. a nice prize pop
6:50 pm
from winning the series, and when you think you will spend the money on? it will probably be reinvested back into my racing, back into my career but i am going to treat myself to a holiday i think as well. you totally deserve that. thank you very much indeed. 0 nto 0nto boxing and it is a fight that is being billed the clash of the demons. the rematch between anthonyjoshua, and andy ruinr. which is set to take place in saudi arabia on december 7th. ruiz sensationally beat the british heavyweight injune in new york becoming the first mexican heavyweight champ. the decision to host the rematch near riyadh, has caused some stir — many feeling the poor human rights record of saudi arabia should be called into question. ‘sportswashing', that's what amnesty interntional, the human rights organistion, are calling it. effectively using the fight to improve their reputation. this is what their uk head of campaigns, felix jakens had to say. we can hear from amnesty international now. they want to
