hello, this is bbc news with chris rogers. the headlines: borisjohnson says the chances of a brexit deal are "touch and go" ahead of his meeting with the eu council president at the g7 summit. i do think that they understand that there is an opportunity to do a deal, but i think they also... do you think it is more likely than it was? it is going to be touch and go. president trump says "a very big trade deal" after brexit is on the menu as he holds a working breakfast with the prime minister. batting brilliance from ben stokes — his sensational century leads england to a nailbiting victory over australia and keeps the ashes series alive. 40,000 troops begin a major operation to fight fires in the amazon.

hello, and welcome to the programme. where else do we start but at headingley? it's been described as a miracle, incredulous and perhaps the greatest innings of all time. ben stokes‘ astonishing 135 not out was enough to give england victory in the third ashes test and keeps this series very much alive. 0ur correspondent andy swiss is there. cut away! what an innings, what a player. it was the stuff of sporting miracles, ben stokes the hero of headingley after one of the most remarkable victories cricket has surely ever seen. england had begun needing
7:34 pm
an unlikely 203 to win, and stokes together withjonny bairstow had got the crowd starting to believe, but then the wickets tumbled. when stuart broad was the ninth man out, england still needed 73. all over, surely. but after being joined by last manjack leach, stokes unleashed something quite extraordinary, tearing into the australian bowling. and as he reached his century, the crowd sensed something special. 100 for ben stokes. what a summer he's having. six followed six as the target ticked down. stokes utterly inspired, it was spine—tingling, spectacular drama as this took england within two. there was so nearly a late twist, a run out chance, but australia fumbled. could you believe it? and moments later, stokes sent headingley into utter euphoria. single—handedly, single—battedly, he dragged england to an astonishing win, and as the celebrations continued inside the stadium,

outside, the fans could barely believe it. that is one of those performances that goes down in history. that's a "we were there" moment. 50, ben stokes now. brilliant innings. we said he had to start playing some shots, hitting it, well, he did that and then some, didn't he? finest innings i've seen from an england batsman. out of breath, like, just the adrenaline. the best kind of sporting moment. brilliant atmosphere, good banter. yeah, brilliant day. and for stokes, what a summer. a world cup winner and now an ashes hero. one of english cricket's most extraordinary talents on one of its most extraordinary days. well, many england fans may still be in shock over the drama from headingley today, but perhaps none moreso than ben stokes himself. stuart broad tweeted this photo of stokes in the changing rooms immediately afterwards. he says, "not sure he can quite believe what he's just done."
7:36 pm
let's step away from the ashes then for now because it another busy day in the premier league. the champions manchester city had a fairly comfortable win on the south coast where sergio aguero scored twice as they beat bournemouth 3—1. joe lynskey reports. this is what happens when pep comes to town. they look up to him, but hate to face him, especially at bournemouth. eight top—flight games with city have brought them eight defeats. just trying to hold out can feel impossible. that was sergio aguero finding the room for a shot to the corner. it was fortunate, but right now for this team, even the miscues bring goals. city have strengthened even further this summer, but still they get more from those who've stuck around. with this, raheem sterling went to five goals in three games. 2—0, and the feeling that city had swept the team away.
7:37 pm
to drag themselves back in it, bournemouth needed the very best. harry wilson's a wales international on loan from liverpool. moments like this help his growing reputation. that was quite brilliant strike gave the home side momentum. but soon, the champions grasped control again. they looked at var for this challenge, but despite the contact, got no penalty. they weren't waiting long, though, for the goal to come. sergio aguero again for one. his city goal number 235. they are the champions remain relentless, and for bournemouth, like so many, beating city is still a mystery. joe lynskey, bbc news. we have seven points. we should have nine. but it's ok. last game before the international break, and hopefully ourfans can come against brighton and help us to make another victory.
7:38 pm
you know it's going to be a tough game, and i think the game we saw was the game we probably thought it might be. the big difference this time was although we did not much possession, we had our moments and chances to score. they ultimately change games, and i think we just weren't good in front of goal today. elsewhere, joelinton‘s first—half goal gave newcastle a shock i—0 victory over a below—par tottenham and earned steve bruce his first victory since taking over. nick parrott was watching. after earning a draw at champions manchester citic, tottenham might have been at rubbing their hands at the prospect of facing a team who would get to secure a point. supporting their awake yet, newcastle looked more like the netherlands than the magpies and perhaps it change their mindset too. they were the first to land a shot on target, with this testing hugo lloris. and the first to make a breakthrough. showing why newcastle broke their track record to sign the

brazilian. tottenham came from behind in their last two matches but struggled to threaten here. this managing their only shot on target in the first half. and there only one in the second. if that did not sum up their day, this did. the ar. it saved spurs last week against city but here denied harry kane what looked like a penalty. the england captain had another chance to save the day but it was not to be. relief oi’ the day but it was not to be. relief or newcastle boss steve bruce after a difficult start to hit season and a difficult start to hit season and a lot for tottenham to work on before next weekend's north london derby. nick barratt, bbc news. 0verall, derby. nick barratt, bbc news. overall, i thought to a man they we re overall, i thought to a man they were excellent today. a big surprise on them and of course the staff who was work with me all week to try and quiet the storm if that is the right word, but hopefully that should show people up for a bit anyway.
7:40 pm
we did not play well. it was impossible to run down their organisation and of course we could see the ball and i think where we we re see the ball and i think where we were because in the last game, now were because in the last game, now we concede on the first half. i think it is not easy after to get back and of course the belief increased every single minute and of course disappointed. keep going and what we need to move on. results there from both those matches. just one other game today as rauljimenez‘s stoppage—time penalty salvaged a point for wolves and denied burnley victory at molineux. it's as you were in the scottish premiership. celtic beat hearts 3—i to maintain their 100% record and stay ahead of rangers, who also made it three wins out of three today. borna barisic with the only goal at st mirrenjust before the hour mark. the croatian fired this stunner of a free kick as he made his return to the side. it means st mirren have now

lost their last four meetings with rangers. adam gemili has won the men's 200m at the british championships. it took a new championship record of 20.08 seconds into a headwind for gemili to beat zharnel hughes, who took the silver, and miguel francis, who won bronze. it's gemili and hughes who have qualified for the world championships in doha next month after they both ran inside the qualifying time. the final round of the season ending tour championship is under way in atlanta, with rory mcilory just one shot off the lead. and if the first hole is anything to go by, we are in for an exciting night of golf. look how close mcilroy came here to scoring a birdie straightaway, but he had to make do with a par. brooks koepka, who is currently

in the lead, also parred the first. england's women were playing for a bronze medal at the euro hockey championships, but lost to spain. it was 1—1 at full—time and went to a penalty shoot—out. at two goals apiece, beatriz perez scored her penalty, firing around maddie hinch. and then england captain hollie pearne—webb was thwarted by maria ruiz in the spanish goal, which means england leave antwerp empty—handed. a better performance in the semi final so that was pleasing. spain area final so that was pleasing. spain are a good sign and it was a good contest are a good sign and it was a good co ntest a nd are a good sign and it was a good contest and then shoot outs, that happen sometimes or you don't convert you rs happen sometimes or you don't convert yours and unfortunately for us convert yours and unfortunately for us today and we were on the wrong side of the ledger. we are disappointed obviously. i think disappointed with the whole tournament in general for us. but what was pleasing today was we played far better than we did in the last game. we changed a few things around. yeah, a much better performance,

but we have a lot to work on when we get back home. meanwhile, ireland retained their top tier status after beating russia and finishing fifth, matching their best finish at the euro championships. the irish only needed a draw to avoid relegation, but won 3—2 thanks to katie mullan's late goal. there was drama at the start and finish of the british moto gp at silverstone, where spain's alex rins claimed his second win of the season. andrea dovizioso won last time out in austria, but the italian‘s hopes of victory ended painfully at the first corner. his bike bursting into flames. his ducati team say he didn't break any bones, but was taken to hospital for further checks. world champion marc marquez looked on course to win, but was pipped on the line by rins. britain's cal crutchlow was sixth. that's all from sportsday. head over to the bbc website for

right, some alligators to start with. we have had alligators in films like, i believe, lake placid? as i mentioned, the film tries to do for alligators in films what was done injaws for sharks. alligator, eaten alive. i think technically lake placid was a giant crocodile. alexandre aja is the director. the story is a swimmer from the university of florida goes back home and she finds out herfather is in his house in a hurricane zone and she cannot get in touch with him and she goes to the house to go and check that he is all right. when she gets there, everything is flooded and wouldn't you know it, there are huge alligators in the water. here is a clip. come on! siren blares. watch out!
