we are looking at some shots on the screen, it is fun, isn't it, strictly come dancing? it is all about fun. it is. it is about two people dancing together... i'm not sure that was dancing, but never mind! it's about two people learning skills together, especially celebrities. it's great for mental health, socialising, fitness, you name it. are there classes or schools where same—sex dancing does take place? once a month, i go to a ballroom in south london, they have a same—sex evening called the pinkjukebox. the first time i went, it was incredible, a jam—packed studio full of same—sex dancing. it is up, it is on the rise and i think everybody should embrace it. now, it's time for a look at the weather with nick miller.
6:31 pm
hello. most of us have seen some rain so far today, as the weather system moves east across the uk. it's behind that, we're getting this on returning for the rest of the weekend, but it is cooler. now, the last of that weather system with cloud, a bit of patchy rain pulls away from east anglia, and the south—east of england, as we go through the evening. the heavy rain in northern scotland easing to showers, but quite a lot of clear weather around overnight, and temperatures dipping away quite widely into single figures, as we start the day tomorrow and as we start september. showers tomorrow from the word go in a northern and western scotland. but fine, sunny weather across many other parts of the uk, but the showers will move further south and east during the day. some of them likely to be heavy and possibly thundery, whereas much of south wales and southern england will avoid the showers and stay dry. there will be a fair amount of sunshine around, around any showers, so it's a cooler wind direction from the west—northwest. and while some mayjust creep above 20 celsius, most of us won't. that's your latest forecast.
6:32 pm
hello this is bbc news with lu kwesa burak. the headlines. thousands take to the streets across the uk — to condemn borisjohnson‘s decision to suspend parliament. there's been renewed violence in hong kong, with pro—democracy protesters defying a ban on rallying. more than 50 migrants have been detained as they tried to cross the english channel to reach kent — several boats have been intercepted. formula 2 driver, anthoine hubert, has been killed in a crash at the belgian grand prix. same sex couples could be allowed to compete on "strictly come dancing" from next year. now on bbc news it's time for sportsday.
6:33 pm
hello and welcome to sportsday. i'm olly foster here's what's coming up over the next half hour. manchester city are too strong for brighton, they are top of the table for now. manchester united's stuttering start continues, as they're held at southampton. and a double from ireland's jacob stockdale ends wales winning run in cardiff. also coming up in the programme... the end of an era , after 85 years — bradford bulls will play their last game at odsal stadium. . .. good evening, welcome along to the bbc sport centre. lots coming up over the next half an hour, formula one is back but we've also had some terrible news coming out of spa in the last
6:34 pm
hour, the death of a driver in today's formula 2 race. we'll speak to our reporter in belgium. we've had we've had seven results in the premier league. we'll get all the reaction to manchester city's big win in a moment, but ole gunnar solskjaer was ruing a number of missed chances, as they slipped up at southampton. saints played the last 20 minutes with ten men but held on for a 1—1 draw. michael redford reports. just three games into the premier league season, southhampton and manchester united are still looking for a bit of rhythm. southhampton‘s new moves are coming from an old face. he was sent on loan to spain last season, he nearly gave the home side the perfect start. united on the other hand, have a new favourite in their ranks. danieljames, showing off his twinkle toes. that's three goals in four games. southhampton did draw level through an unlikely source, it's been over a year since yannick joined the club.
6:35 pm
that was his first goal. it would be another first for one of his team—mates, although not one to remember. a late challenge from a second yellow card, and an early end for kevin. united pushed for a winner, coming close, not once not twice, but thrice. southhampton hung on. a really unbelievable performance, what it means in terms of mental strength, and the willingness to take this point. really believing in what they are doing, i saw a very, very good committed team today. we should've won today. we created chances, we had pressure on them. we have a game where we wanted win, after dan's fantastic first strike. spaces everywhere. then we just got a bit careless in our finishing in our last pass, even in our build up play. and we encouraged southhampton to get back into the game. both sides are still looking for that perfect performance. michael redford, bbc news. so, united misfiring there, and their journey home
6:36 pm
from the south coast won't have been any cheerier with the news coming out of the etihad. adam wild can bring us right up to date with the rest of the premier league and adam, manchester city looked very impressive today. very impressive indeed. plenty of goals this afternoon, and some real crackers as well. manchester city who had the pleasure of welcoming graham potters brighton to the etihad this afternoon. before today, city hadn't been beaten in 17 league games, a tremendous run that, of course, took them to the premier league title last season. brighton for their part, had lost all 4 previous premier league games to city. it ended 4—0 to city, a very comfortable afternoon for them. any hopes brighton might have had of keeping it tight for the opening stages were gone within 71 seconds. just over a minute is all it took for this man, kevin de bruyne to opening the scoring for pep guardiola's side. it all looked far too easy for the champions.
6:37 pm
they doubled their lead before half time, who else, but sergio aguero. the kind of goal we've seen from him so many times before, making space for himself in the box before finishing in the style we've all become very used to indeed. really from that point it was all over. aguero though, hadn't finished. neat interplay on the edge of the box once more from city and a quite brilliant strike from aguero once again. into the top corner from the edge of the box. a fantastic goal. things looking very grim for brighton, and it would only get worse. city in sparkling form, bernardo silva adding a fourth. so city have scored 1a goals in their first four matches this campaign. having hit five against west ham on the opening weekend of the season, they scored two against tottenham and put three past bournemouth before notching another four this afternoon. one sour note for them, city lost french defender aymeric laporte to injury. the former athletic bilbao player was carried off on a stretcher after a collision with adam webster
6:38 pm
before being taken to hospital. lets hear then, from the managers. we scored early, but the brighton team what they have done, a few teams that we face here in this, more than three years, creates problems with the bowl. and they we re problems with the bowl. and they were clear what they wanted to do, and we had some minutes to adjust, ta ke and we had some minutes to adjust, take our chances, and i think it was the quality of the players that manchester city has. from this perspective, very proud, the effort of the players. the attitude to try to do what we ask them to do was top will stop playing against a fantastic team, unbelievable players, and they punish you for moments, but in terms of our overall performance, yeah, very happy with them. yeah, not very many
6:39 pm
points there. the spurs did not so long ago. i don't know why i thought about. chelsea, now they look home and hosed in bay. they were flying at half—time. yet, a real tale of two halves of the bridge this afternoon. let's first talk about tammy abraham. —— but sheffield united are loving life in the prmier league and a huge point for them at stamford bridge. yeah, a real tale of two halves at the bridge. lets first talk about tammy abraham. remember he was left out of gareth southgates england squad earlier in the week, that was a surprise for some such is the form he's been in this season. perhaps he felt he had a point to prove. a great start for him and chelsea — but they were pegged back, 2—2 it finished. abraham it was who opened the scoring at the bridge. a pretty tame header, easily saved but a fumble from the goalkeeper, abraham lashed in his first goal of the afternoon. before the break, he had another. latching on to a loose ball and finishing with great confidence to put chelsea in control. they did actually have another goal ruled out before the break.
6:40 pm
but, within seconds of the restart. this man, callum robinson, he signed for united in the summer, he was a record fee, and this was his first goal for his new side. 2—1 and chris wilder's side really making a game of it. and after plenty of chances, plenty of effort, it finally paid off. lys mousset, the frenchman who also onlyjoined the club in the summer. this was his debut, and what a way to mark it. the equaliser in the 89th minute. i think it will go down as a kurt zouma own goal, but mousset certainly celebrating it. absolutely jubilent scenes for chris wilders side at full time. the result puts the visitors, who finished second in the championship last season, into eighth in the premier league table, one place above chelsea. one intersting thing to note, lampard's starting 11 was the youngest chelsea have named in the premier league era with an average age of 2a years and 158 days, and they really will have to learn how to close out this kind of encounter if they are to settle into the upper reaches of the table.
6:41 pm
it was under control, so it is our fault, because we gifted them a goal in the first minute of the second half. and then, it makes the game more difficult, so we gave them the feeling that they were back in it, some similar stories to some of the games we played. and they fought to the end, and they got the goal at the end, and they got the goal at the end. so yeah, we gave away a game that should have been very, very comfortable, and made it difficult, and we lost two points for that. we have celebrated, i have talked about the journey, and we are a part of league 130 years ago, so you come toa of league 130 years ago, so you come to a fantastic historic football club, and especially second going toe to toe with them. in my opinion, in my biased opinion, i do believe we deserve something from the game. now as if you need a reason to watch match of the day tonight, it's worth it to see jamie vardy‘s first goal on its own. it was the first in their 3—1 victory over bournemouth at the kingpower. just 12 minutes gone when a long through ball found va rdy
6:42 pm
and he quite brilliantly lobbed the keeper from a long way out. he made it look so easy, absolutely fantastic goal. bournemouth who, it has to be said, did look rather lacklustre for much of the game, did get an equaliser. callum wilson celebrating his call—up to the england squad, a nice confident finish past kaspar schmeichal to level the scores. little over quarter of an hour played at that point. )but leicester were back in front before the break. good work again from vardy, crossing the ball to find youri tielemans to tap to restore their lead. vardy got his second after the break. some rather hesitant bournemouth defending leaving him in space to poke home and make the game safe. so brendan rodgers' side have won two and drawn two of their opening four games, really showing their early ambitions of breaking into the top six at the end of the season. another excellent showing this afternoon. a very good start for us, since the
6:43 pm
players come in at the beginning of preseason, they have been working so hard. and you see that in the second half, you know, that physicality. you know, it's the third game in the week, and sometimes early on in the season, you can suffer without. adjust the intensity of the players, they played with their heart today, and the emotion, and of course they have that quality. and, yeah, i am just so so proud of them, because they gave so much to the game against a very good side. so, lets take a look at the rest of those scores then. we've heard about united and chelsea's draws. palace got a much needed win against aston villa. jordan ayew with the only goal there. the visitors were really incensed by a late disallowed goal for henri lansbury added time, the referee having already blown to bookjack grealish for simulation in the build—up. they were absolutely furious but 1—nil it finished. newcastle and watford finished 1—each, thats watfords first premier league point of the season so some relief for them. sebastien haller scored his third goal in two games for west ham as they beat norwich city 2—0
6:44 pm
at the london stadium.and of course, that one game still ongoing, liverpool, taking on burnley in the late kick off. liverpool took the lead through a bit of a fluke, tren alexander arnolds cross deflected in off chris wood. no fluke about their second, sadio mane with the goal. so liverpool 2—0 up there. quick look at the table then, city on top after that thumping win today. we'll wait and see where that leaves liverpool. leicester palace and west ham all up there as well, much to the surprise of some i would guess. down at the bottom, the first points of the season for watford. soa so a little bit of relief for them. adam, many thanks indeed. liverpool pushing for a third there. many thanks indeed. let's get up to date
6:45 pm
with championship, swansea have knocked leeds off the top of the table. wayne routledge scored the the winner in the 90th minute at elland road there was a great game at ashton gate. bristol city got a late equaliser against middlesbrough. the home side were ahead at half—time but boro turned it around equalising through an own own goal before britt assombalonga put them ahead. tommy rowe's neat header saw city claim a point though. they are fifth in the table. boro are still waiting for their first away win in the league this season. here are the other results, wins for birmingham, brentford and luton, draws at millwall and forest charlton are up to second winning 2—nil at reading. jordan hugill scored twice as qpr came from behind to beat sheffield wednesday. they are knocking on the playoff spots now, the rangers. west brom are fourth, they beat blackburn rovers 3—2, all the golas came in the first half. wigan drew 0—0 with barnsley. a big one tomorrow in scotland. it's
6:46 pm
the old derby rangers. it's rangers celtic in the old firm derby tomorrow but everyone else in the scottish premiership played today, with livingstone continuing their unbeaten start to the season. they beat st mirren 2—1, despite their manager gary holt not being in the dugout. he was in hospital after being injured while lifting weights. aberdeen beat ross county 3—0, same scoreline as motherwell beat hibswinless. stjohnstone were beaten again by kilmarnock. hearts' poor start to the season also continues they drew 2 all with hamilton at tynecastle. right you are up—to—date with the football. let's move to motorsports. the 22 year old french driver, anthoine hubert has died, after a horrific crash in today's formula 2 race in spa. it happened on the second lap and the race was susequently cancelled, let's speak to five lives motorsport reporterjenny gow who was at the circuit today in belgium, jenny, shocking news, what actually happened a very promising driver, the gp3 champion last year and tipped to break into f1 next
6:47 pm
what actually happened 7 what actually happened? we haven't seen any replays, for that, i am pretty grateful. it was a very high—speed accidents, as you said on the second lap, it was the race that was taking place this afternoon. the accident or incident involved three drivers. so he was one of them. and one man well was another. and juliano as well. obviously medical staff and emergency services attended the scene, and one of the drivers was taken away in the helicopter that is used for medical emergencies. unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away at 1835 local time. lacey was checked out at the medical centre and passed as ok, but i think it's a big shock that he was a young promising driver in the academy, and we haven't had a serious incident
6:48 pm
really since 2014, when he was involved in a big crash injapan. so i think there was a feeling of shock that something like this can still happen with the amount of safety that's been put into these cars. i think an accident like this, that there is just no avoiding a horrific outcome. 160 mph, apparently the driver one man well who went into him after hubert had gone into the barrier. that american driver, he is set to be in a stable condition. now hubert was a very promising driver. he was gp three champion, trying to break into formula 1 next year. yeah, ithink break into formula 1 next year. yeah, i think whether he would have got to formula 1 next year or not, i don't know. but he was definitely a star of the future. he had been picked out as a protege to come through that. his idle, he wanted to be the next frenchman to really seriously challenge for a title in formula 1. and, you know, it's been
6:49 pm
rudely cut short. he was very promising, two wins this year in his first season in formula to. gp three champion last season, so i think the whole hepatic is stunned. lots of people making lots of comments. george russell, the team—mates of his ina george russell, the team—mates of his in a different series. but still the same team. he has come out on social media with a picture of he and antoine together. i think it's going to be very difficult for some of these drivers to get into their ca i’s of these drivers to get into their cars tomorrow and race in formula 1. there is, at the moment, no kind of announcement about what happens with the race, but we would fully expect it to continue in formula 1. the fia is sort of doing their own investigations about what happened in the incident, but yeah, a very shocking turn of events in what was a glorious day here. everybody was really excited about the action after summer break. jenny, for now,
6:50 pm
many thanks indeed for the update. antoine hubert, the french driver, 22 years old, he was killed in that formula 2 race. —— today. so it's going to be a very sombre atmosphere, asjenny going to be a very sombre atmosphere, as jenny was going to be a very sombre atmosphere, asjenny was saying, for that f1 race tomorrow, the first after the summer break, as she was mentioning. ferrari look to have recharged their batteries, sharl leclair and sebastian vettel will start the belgian grand prix on the front row. nick parrott reports after a summer holiday, you might want to ease yourself back into work. no such luck for mercedes. they had a race against time to repair lewes hamilton's car for qualifying, following his crash in final practise. rather helpfully, the mercedes engine in robert's williams car came to their rescue. by ruining the polish driver's day, it made hamilton's. a ten minute delay to proceedings followed, enough to allow the world champion to join the action. hamilton is claiming pole more times than anyone else, but despite his experience, he couldn't catch the ferraris of sebastian fedele.
6:51 pm
the 21—year—old from monaco top the time sheets in all three sessions on his way to his third pole of the season. really good job. come on baby, yes, yes! with a gap of a quarter of a second to his rivals, leclair will be hoping he can go on to secure a first race win. hamilton and mercedes will have their work cut out trying to catch him. nick parrott, bbc news. rugby union now. wales' 11 match winning home run is over and they've also dropped off the top of the rugby world rankings. they lost by 22 points to 17 to ireland in cardiff. they face each other again in dublin next weekend before heading to japan and the world cup that starts in 3 weeks patrick gearey reports. wales are planning their world cup down to the last note. they have had singing lessons to help them with the anthem. that's the warren gatland way. this is his final home match as wales' head coach, but the first verse was set
6:52 pm
to an irish tempo. that's jacob stockdale, with a new aerodynamic haircut. ireland are hoping he will be their bullet train injapan. once he's off, it's nonstop until he reaches his destination. they were 15—3, up at the break, then scored a penalty try in the second half. wales was failing their final audition, a day before their world cup squad is named. what a moment then for owen lane, taking his cue on debut, and impressing his boss, probably. gatland said this week he doesn't care about rankings, but the locals do. and wales' world number one spot was on the line. reese continued the comeback charge, but their momentum ended there, while ireland may have found some atjust the right time. patrick geary, bbc news. the all blacks at the top of the rankings as a result of that welsh defeat. the final stages of scotland's latest warm—up match. it is going to be a big win for them,
6:53 pm
they have had a lightning start. 20—nil up inside the first 20 minutes, lock ben toolis with their first try, there have also been two tries from northampton centre rory hutchison, making his first start for scotland — who lead 30—10. —— 44—10, just a couple of minutes to go. staying with rugby league. bradford bulls will play theirfinal game at odsal stadium tomorrow when they host sheffield eagles. the six time league champions — who have been through financial trouble and relegation in the last few years — leave the stadium after 85 years. paul ogden reports. in ourgrill in our grill champions in ourgrill champions in in our grill champions in 1996, the bulls were regulars in the grand finals of the early 2000. pomerania was one thing, but the largest ever attendance, 102,569 for the 1954 challenge cup final replay. it was a then world record for the league
6:54 pm
crowd. these days, owned by rugby league's governing body, the rfl, they have recently been sublet to bradford bulls as tenants. now restructuring in pursuit of long—term ambitions, the bulls have asked to play next year of dues very‘s ground, hoping to return to the city of bradford in a boutique stadium, fit for super league. it will be strange playing on a sort of away ground really, as our temporary home, but we have got to adapt to that, we have to be as good as we possibly can, because ultimately, what you are judged by is the playing group, the performance group, and by results. the rfl have been described as poor, the decision to move, even questioning the credibility of the club's long—term plans. ominously, they will now consider all options for the site. this is my place of work, it's where i get this is my place of work, it's where iget paid, this is my place of work, it's where i get paid, so yeah, i hope that first and foremost the club does exist, and we get back to bradford. but yeah, for the near future, which we are going, and i will be a part
6:55 pm
of fats, and i suppose we've just got to buy into that. the special financial measures that the bulls are operating under, means that they are operating under, means that they are barred from recruiting any new players for the time being. whatever they think of their future home. right. it's the final weekend at the world rowing championships in austria, there were two golds and two bronze medals for the british team today. no strangers to the top of the podium, matthew pinsent and katherine grainger are there for us. it is such an intense world championships this year. we keep talking about qualification for tokyo, both olympics and paralympics. the biggest event to qualify is here. so to see a lot of the crews that were touch and go, getting the qualification stops, the women's quarter, it's great to see them, and the men's. you still want to see them up in the metals, but for them both to qualify is huge. i think from the metals side you cannot look past our paralympic team. two finals, two gold medals. it's the only time we heard the infa nts it's the only time we heard the infants today. so like to celebrate the event there. he lightly women, a
6:56 pm
surprise, they were hoping to qualify, a new combination. they only knew six weeks of rowing together, they didn'tjust qualify, they got a bronze medal. so there is a lot to get excited about, some to get concerned about. the biggest thing looking forward to tomorrow is possibly the eights, because from that point of view, everyone else at the finals tomorrow has got six books for tokyo, the men's eights and women eights, six book the final, only five will get tokyo places. and such a difficult race to match that, because you've got six players, only five, how do you do the tactics? well, you go out and start finishing thinking i want to bea start finishing thinking i want to be a top three, because i want to medal, but i want to get away from the risk of being at the back end. someone else might not bejudging the risk of being at the back end. someone else might not be judging as well. it's going to be drama. 0k, well. it's going to be drama. ok, all of the drama will be here. bbc does not come at 12:30pm on sunday. matthew pinson and catherine at the world rowing championships there. quick update. about 15—20 minutes to play, liverpool still leading, 2—0, they will go back to

6:58 pm
showers have been following behind it. in the northwesterly breeze, still quite a brisk wind at the moment, drawing down cooler and fresher air across the country. as we had outside, this was the scene a little earlier on in oakley, where it has been quite windy, but at least we have had some sunshine here. sunshine and warmth and southeastern parts of england, the mid—20s before this cloud moved in him and gave a burst of rain. you can see that on the earlier radar picture. not a great deal of rain heading southeast words, that is moving away, the more persistent rain is heading up towards the northern aisles briefly, but it is the showers that will continue overnight into northern ireland, particularly into scotland and 1—2 coming into northern parts of england and wales, the south clear skies. we have got that northwesterly air, it is colder, temperatures will be lower than they we re temperatures will be lower than they were last night. typically 7—9 in towns and cities, lower than that in some rural areas. chilly start to sunday, plenty of sunshine for england and wales, some sunshine between the showers across northern
