make the quarter finals. for a shell—shocked irish — they knew it wouldn't be an easy match against japan. they just couldn't do anything about it ww knew how tough it was going to be. anyone that was utterly shocked has not seen how good they are. we felt we were really prepared to but give credit to that team, they played really well. we made a few mistakes and unforced errors. i thinkjapan played really well and they post a lot of questions to us and unfortunately we cannot come up with the right answers. a tough defeat for us to take with the strength of the team will be how they respond and rebound from this. a tough defeat for us to take with the strength of the team will be how they respond and rebound from this. a six—day turnaround into this game was a little bit tough and we have got a five day turnaround now the russian game on tuesday.

7:37 pm
we'll give you the details from qualifying for the russian grand prix. manchester city have just beaten everton 3—1 but liverpool remain five points clear at the top of the premier league after they won at the newly promoted sheffield united by 1—0. it was not a day goalkeeper dean henderson will look back on with too much fondness though. his howler gifted the league leaders all three points as rhia chohan explains the latest title challenge has been near followed flawless. they visited here with six wins out of six. enough to put a grin on any manager public face. but sheffield united were not going to because of and the report if real chance it was an opportunity missed. liveable off and looked out of the comfort zone and united commit to close for comfort.
7:38 pm
it was a huge goalkeeping error which eventually turned the game around. a liverpool goal which squirmed agonisingly over the line. a frustrating moment for dean henderson who otherwise held it together. it was not their most emphatic performance. mo has not scored away from home this season it was not to happen today either. leon clark almost six got a point for united but it wasjurgen klopp‘s side who took their hardest earned three points this season. it was never easy today. we needed everybody for defending and nearly everybody for attacking and we scored a lucky goal. we know that. but the boys worked so hard for it and you cannot luck, and that's what they did today. united would have earned luck as well but it doesn't happen every day. if they keep playing like this will be a really tough place
7:39 pm
to hold next season. and that errorfrom henderson may not be the worst blunder of the day believe it or not. austin halewood has had his eye across the 3pm kick offs — starting at the tottenham hotspur stadium. that's right, ben, a horror goal adding to a horror week for spurs. beaten by league two side colchester in the league cup on tuesday you might remember, but this 2—1 win over southhampton will‘ve come as a huge relief to their fans. the result they'll take with open arms, but the performance wasn't pretty. spurs had a really ropey start but the nerves were settled by an opening goalfrom record signing tanguy ndombele. but then the problems started once again with serge aurier sent off in the first half for two yellow cards within a minute of each other. and it got worse. an absolute howler of a goalkeeping errorfrom hugo lloris gifted southampton a goal.
7:40 pm
you'll have to see it for yourselves on match of the day to beleive it. but as he so often is harry kane was the saviour for tottenham. he scored just before the break to give them the lead and they never gave it up. for large parts of the second half they were second best. they needed lloris to redeem himself and he did with some spectacular saves, so he'll be a relieved man tonight. as will spurs boss mauricio pochettino. his side move up to fourth. ifeel so happy for the players and for the fans and of course the fans deserve a victory like this today. we needed it to work a lot and of course it shows that our spirit is back to the team and that's the way that we need it to work and that is what we respect.
7:41 pm
hampered by that transfer embargo in the summer, chelsea have had a bit of a shakey start, but they'll be relieved to tick off a first home win. they deservedly beat brighton 2—0 at stamford bridge. after plenty of chances they finally scored in the second half from the spot. jorginho with the penalty. you might remember that ross barkley took and missed a penalty instead ofjorginho in the champions league against valencia a couple of weeks ago. but there was no mistake from jorginho this time. and willian made it two, not long after, with chelsea's second. now that win made chelsea's record against brighton nine wins from nine — that's a new football league and premier league record — no team has had such a bad record against another team before — but for manager frank lampard he'll just be delighted to have that first home win in the league.
7:42 pm

7:43 pm
four league matches. now he could have made it 3—1, but he missed a golden opportunity. and aaron cresswell made him pay. he scored the equaliser for west ham, which had lifted them up to third in the table, just four points behind manchester city in second. as for the rest of the 3pm kick—offs — burnley came from behind twice to draw 2—2 at aston villa. crystal palace beat norwich 2—0. and watford stay rooted to the bottom of the table, still without a win,

7:49 pm
she can compete with the best. of the person who really stood out was sheuey the person who really stood out was shelley and fraser price. the former world champion. she ran 10.8 and iogged world champion. she ran 10.8 and jogged it from about a0 metres out. something like that. we asked her how fast can you run? she just smiled and walked away. i think she will be tough to beat. but dina asher smith looks on course from metal. just what a touch up the conditions that was on the women's marathon last night. temperatures getting up to and the humidity that the athletes were struggling with. 10,000 metres in the stadium behind you but later on outside, however the athletes coping? that 10,000 metres you were talking about was one by hassan. it's herfirst global championship and accelerated from the rest of the field on the back straight believe it or not entered

7:51 pm
on victory last weekend, ferreri's charl leclerc is smiling again, and no wonderfirst driver to claim four consecutive pole positions since lewis hamilton. track mercedes have dominated running every grand prix since 201a but now their grip on formula 1 is loosening. ferreri told the time sheets in every session of qualifying and in the final one knuckle one post of the time to beat. the best of on course to join his team—mates until hamilton picked him butjust two hundredths of a second. both were left trailing in the wake by almost half a second. that's a massive margin when it comes to formula 1. hamilton will try to take confidence in the fact that he has won here three times despite only starting from the pole once but it's clear for all to see it would take something special or misfortune to deny charl leclerc his third win of the season.

the future world champion in the making. it was double dutch in the women's road race at the road cycling world championships in yorkshire with annamiek van vleuten producing a stunning 100 kilometre solo effort to take gold ahead of compatriot ana van der breggan. there was no fairy tale home—coming for great britain and yorkshire's — lizzie deignan who was aiming to reclaim the title she won back in 2015. she tried in vein to reel in the leaders and finished well behind in the peleton. patrick gearey has more. the crowd here did not get the results they wanted. no metalfor the home favourite, but that's was like a 93 mile rides down memory lane for her. this is the area she grew up in with these of the streets where she first rode a bike on an almost around every corner was a special place for her. she entered her home town was allowed to go to the front

did planet. we might have the 100 metre final to bring you to you. goodbye. hello, the weather has been going downhill through this evening across many parts of the uk. the earlier satellite picture shows this curve of cloud — you can see the way in which it's been developing an area of low pressure, spinning itself up heading in our direction, bringing some very heavy and potentially flooding rain. driving northwards across england and wales through the evening and into the early hours of sunday. some really strong winds down towards the south. some of that rain getting into northern ireland and southern scotland — the northern half of scotland escaping with just a few showers, that's where we will have the lowest of the temperatures.
