never been done home and away, back to back. i am looking forward to the challenge and obviously you learn things from doing it the first time. it is nice to have the opportunity to go and do it again. so matthew delighted to be taking up the role and she will be doing it with a tried and tested formula. she will bring back her vice captains from 2019, catherine emery, suzanne pedersen and laura davies. although suzanne pedersen ended up playing at that event. so plenty of opportunity to bring on 2021. matteo berrettini has become the first italian to win a match at the season ending atp finals. he'd already been knocked out of the tournament, but put that disappointment behind him to beat dominic thiem in straight sets at the 02 arena in london. thiem is already in the semi—finals. there's a big match this evening, in the same group as berrettini and thiem — novak djokovic and roger federer play for a place in the semi finals.

on the american market, i see it as, you know, great change and a great opportunity for youngsters coming through for themselves and their families, so it will be awesome to bea families, so it will be awesome to be a part of that. what do you have to do to go back from union to lee, so to do to go back from union to lee, so physically and mentally, what has to switch? the first part of the season to switch? the first part of the season will be adjusting to the game plan, fitting into how the toronto boys play, their style of attack, which is quite different to a lot of the teams i have watched, which is exciting. once i get that, i think in the first part of the season, then slowly i will be able to add my flavour to it, i guess. he will be a huge draw in the super league. concussion has become huge issue in contact sports, american football had a wake—up call a few years ago when a study showed the extent of long term brain damage among former players. earlier i spoke to the nfl‘s chief medical officer about how
6:50 pm
they are looking to make the sport safer. the overwhelming majority of concussions are associated with the act of tackling, like in rugby. data showed 60% of the time showed the injury was to the person doing the tackle. we have done a lot of work on how the interaction occurs. what is the height of the tackle, what pa rt is the height of the tackle, what part of the body is first used to initiate the tackle as well as the safest area on the bolt carrier's body to complete the tackle. that work has showed as we can make those tackles safer. in the bottom line and comment thread to that is getting the head removed from the impact. we have put a strategy together in 2018 to reduce injuries from concussion and we were quite successful. we were able to reduce concussion to 29% overall in the nfl games in the campaign of 2018. i think we have shown we can make a difference. interestingly enough, we are putting an equal amount of
6:51 pm
emphasis on the lower extremities. if you look at injuries that caused place to miss time and the burden of those injuries, eight of the top 11 happen to the lower extremity, so it is like knee injuries, soft tissue strains and ankle injuries. we are equally focusing on those injuries to help players stay on the field. when you look at amateur boxing they got rid of the head guards because they felt having something on the head was making them feel a little bit, you can hit me as many times as you like. is that the danger with helmets as well, you are finding in the nfl? they were designed to reduce and prevents skull fractures but we know helmets will never prevent all concussions. but they can reduce some of the injuries that will occur from incidental head contact. sometimes a player's head will hit the ground or they might collide inadvertently. at the same time, we don't think helmets will eliminate all injuries. it is a bit like an automobile. you can put a lot of technology around it but if
6:52 pm
you operate the automobile in a reckless and unsafe manner, you can be injured. it is important to have a helmet but use it in the appropriate manner. you have got to look at the safety of your players without damaging the product of the sport as well because everybody loves a touchdown pass don't they from the quarterback, but a lot of people love those big hits as well? the game can be made safer and more exciting at the same time. they are not mutually exclusive goals. we can have an entertaining game for fans and improve safety at the same time. ido and improve safety at the same time. i do think we have seen a strong change over the last decade of people looking at those big hits. i don't think people look at those big hits as the core of the game, they would rather see an exciting touchdown or a pass play. they realise with the big hits there comes the risk of injury so we are seeing fewer of those for good reason. that was an interesting chap. he was speaking across the road at old trafford. let's just return to our top story,
