6:38 pm
tsitsipas is making his debut at the tournament but showed no signs of being overawed by the occasion or his opponent, as austin halewood reports. if battling against rafa nadal yesterday wasn't tough enough, for stefanos tsitsipas it was only the warm up. next up, roger federer the man who has done it all before — perhaps the greatest of all time. but even the greats still feel the pressure. after a near three—hour battle with nadal, anyone would be forgiven for feeling the strain, but tsitsipas was on top his game. the greek at his powerful clinical best and eventually after the seventh time of asking he took the first set. when federer won his first grand slam title, tsitsipas hadn't started school. with 17 years between them, the greek looked to use age to his advantage forcing federer around the court and forcing the mistake.

federer will be ruing those lost break points stop before the match started, roger was the favourite and we expected... he was a little too strong. little did we know he started like a house on fire... never really a break and he talked about... it doesn't talk about who you are, if you cannot convert a break point you can't win a match. he never got into the match and booked under par throughout it. he w011 booked under par throughout it. he won the toss and elected to receive andi won the toss and elected to receive and i thought maybe it would be an advantage. would've, could've, should've, tsitsipas held and once he was up a break, he looked the stronger players. how impressed were you with stefanos today was a vote i think he has arrived today. i think you will be looking out for next year. he is colourful, wonderfulto watch, has an all—around game and
6:41 pm
loves the occasion which 21—year—old guts —— has the guts to wiggins roger federer in front of 18,000 people and come out on top? and the way he finished it off, most players would crumble against roger federer. but he did not. he kept his mentality. something that cannot be learned or teach to either. you have swagger and you have the confidence to finish it off. most of the players would be hampered at the thought of serving up against roger federer. not stefanos tsitsipas. and oppressive finish and he is through to the final tomorrow. —— an impressive finish. well, tsitsipas will play either dominic thiem or the defending champion alexander zverev. they play their semi—final this evening. you can listen to that match on 5 live sports extra from 7.45. stay with us because still to come on sportsday... more misery for the great britain lions as they suffer a humiliating defeat in their final tour match. and we meet a refugee from burundi
